How to Change Fonts on Instagram
By Alvin Wanjala
Learn how to use custom fonts where Instagram supports them, and even where it doesn't.
Instagram is fairly limited when it comes to fonts. For instance, there is no official setting that lets you change your Instagram's bio font or even the fonts of your comments. But that doesn't mean that you can't change fonts at all.
In this article, we'll show you different ways to change fonts in your Instagram Stories, bio, comments, and even captions.
How to Change Fonts in Your Text-Based Instagram Stories
One of the easiest things to customize on Instagram is the fonts in your text-based Stories. What makes this easy is that Instagram allows you to choose between a range of fonts by default. There's a total of nine fonts at the time of writing. Here's how to change the font of your text-based Instagram Story:
- Tap Your Story in the upper left of your Instagram feed.
- Grant Instagram necessary permission if you haven't already.
- Select Camera and tap the Aa button on the left. This will open a blank page for creating a text-only Story.
- Tap anywhere on the blank page to type. Once you're done, swipe the Aa button to view your text in other font types.
- Once you're satisfied with a font, simply tap Next in the top right and select Send to to post your Story.

How to Get New Fonts on Instagram
As mentioned above, you only get access to nine fonts by default. Thanks to enterprising people on the internet, though, you can use fonts that Instagram doesn't support officially. You can do this using Instagram font generator sites. Good examples include Cool Fonts, IGFonts.io, and FontsForInstagram.com.
Using such sites is easy. You just need to copy text from them, and it will retain its font style when you paste it into Instagram. This method gives you access to over 100 fonts, which dwarfs the nine Instagram offers by default.
Read on for step-by-step instructions on using font generator sites to change the fonts of your Instagram text.

How to Change Instagram Fonts Using Font Generator Sites
There are many font generator sites, but they all work on a basic principle. You enter the text and copy it to wherever you want. We'll use CoolFont in this tutorial.
- Go to Cool Fonts.
- Enter your text in the input bar. This could be a comment, caption, or bio you'd like to post on Instagram.
- CoolFont will then display your text in a range of font styles. Scroll down to view more options.
- Once you've found a font you like, tap the Copy button. Or you can select the text manually by tapping on it and then select Copy from the popup on both Android and iOS. This will copy your text with the new font to your clipboard.
- Open Instagram and go anywhere you can enter text.
- Tap and hold the input bar and select Paste to enter your preformatted text.

Using this method, you'll be able to change your Instagram bio font, and fonts in comments, Stories, and even captions. While you can pick any font from one of these sites, keep in mind that all fonts are not equal.
Some are great and some will just make your text look funky and hard to read. If you don't like what's available, a site like IGFonts.io lets you create your own.

Use Custom Fonts Across Instagram
Instagram is a great social media platform, but, like other platforms, it does have its cons here and there. One of the cons is the limited access to more fonts natively. Thankfully, even without native support, you can change Instagram fonts for any text you enter on the platform. Font generator sites like Cool Fonts and IGFonts.io allow you to change fonts in Stories, comments, your bio, or any other text.
How to change the font in your Instagram bio
(Image credit: Solen Feyissa via Unsplash)You may be wondering how to change the font in your Instagram bio if you've seen examples of profiles with non-standard fonts on the platform. If you use a different font on Instagram, it can grab attention and make your profile and copy stand out, and it's actually very easy to do. You don't even need to download any special app.
To change the font in your Instagram bio, or indeed in the captions on your Instagram posts, all you need to do is copy the text into one of the many Instagram font generator tools, choose the font you like and paste it in. It's as easy as that, but we'll illustrate the process below.
Instagram remains one of the most popular social media platforms for artists and designers due to its focus on imagery. To make your profile stand out in a crowded marketplace – which you might particularly want to do if you're getting to grips with how to sell on Instagram, an unusual font can help. Just remember that you don't want it to look childish, amateur or cheesy, so do take some time to choose which Instagram font to use. See some more pointers at the bottom of this guide.
Need some inspiration? Check out our list of free fonts to help you decide on the type of font you might like. The odd emoji is also good for breaking things up and adding a bit of personality and colour, but don't go overboard or your bio may become off-putting or hard to read.
With that in mind, read on to find out how to change the font in your Instagram bio. For more Instagram tips, see our guides to how to turn on Instagram's Dark Mode and how to download Instagram photos. And don't forget to follow Creative Bloq on Instagram !
01. Choose your font
(Image: © Fancy Fonts)
First up, you'll need to open up an online Instagram font generator tool. There are many available on the web, including Insta Fonts , Fancy Fonts and Cool Symbol , but one of our favourites is Meta Tags Font Generator , because it makes it super easy to preview how your font will look live on your Instagram profile.
Type or paste in the text that you want to change into the box that reads 'Edit text'. Below, you'll see a list of fonts that can be used in Instagram, together with previews of how your text would look in each of them. If you're on a desktop computer or tablet, you'll also see a mockup of how your text will look in an Instagram profile on the right.
Meta Tags Font Generator makes it easy to preview your chosen font (Image credit: Meta Tags Font Generator)Some of these fonts are pretty simple; some use emoji and symbols, which may either look creatively inspiring or completely daft; and some will be almost impossible to read. Once you've found the font that works for you, use the 'Copy' button to copy the text.
02. Paste your text into Instagram

Now open Instagram, click on your profile picture, and click the Edit Profile button. In the form that appears, paste in your text into the appropriate box. Click Submit and you are done.
If you don't like the look of the font you've chosen, you can easily go back to step one and choose another. If you're using an iPhone or iPad and prefer a wider selection of fonts, check out the Fonts – for Instagram app for OS. Note that the same technique should also work to change the font in Instagram captions. Just right click and paste the text into the caption field when you're making an Instagram post.
Things to consider if you change your Instagram font
A crucial thing to remember is that changing the font in your Insta bio involves the use of unicode characters, which are often not accessible for people who use screen readers. This means you definitely don't want to put your whole bio, or entire captions, in a different font. Most people only change the font for their name, or a small part of the description.
Remember, too, that updating the text itself can have as much impact as changing the font, if not more. The ideal Instagram bio is generally short and sweet: a few snappy words rather than long sentences. Don't forget to include any relevant links to other accounts you manage. How to edit an Instagram story after posting it
If you're familiar with Instagram, you may know that once you add a photo to your Instagram story, you can no longer edit it. You can't change colors, add filters, add stickers, change geolocation data, or anything else like that.
Instagram stories are different from regular posts. This feature allows you to create and share a slideshow that appears at the top of your friends' Instagram feed. Because they're unique, stories can still be edited even after they've been posted, but in true Instagram post-editing style, there are so many things you can change.
Posting a story
To post a story on Instagram, follow these steps:
Windows programs, mobile applications, games - EVERYTHING is FREE, in our private telegram channel - Subscribe :)
- On the main page of the application, find " Your history " in the upper left corner.
- Click on the " Gallery " icon at the bottom left of the screen.
- Press " Select multiple" in the top right corner if you want to select multiple.
- Scroll through your albums and select the photos/videos you want to add. You can switch between your camera roll and other albums on your phone in the top right corner.
- Add stickers, text or pictures using the options in the top right corner.
- Swipe right to change filters - you'll need to do this for each photo by clicking on the photos in the bottom left corner.
- Click "Send next " and "Your story" or select a specific friend to send it.
You have many editing and customization options with the Instagram Stories feature. Creating entertaining and captivating content with the right filters, texts and content is sure to bring you subscribers.
History settings
Review your history by clicking on your profile icon in the top left corner.
The first thing you can do after posting a story on Instagram is to access the settings menu and play around with the options available there.
Most of these options relate to levels of access to certain actions that you or other people can perform on your history. For example, you can choose to hide your story from your followers or certain friends after you've posted it.
You can also change whether your story is still shared. Another thing you can do is turn off the reply feature for a story, even if you've already uploaded it to Instagram.
To gain access to the menu of history settings, just follow the following steps:
- Go to your profile page
- Click on the icon of history
- Click on the history of history
Direct down to the bottom of the page to find all available options.
The first part of the menu allows you to choose who can reply and view your history. The second part of the menu gives you save options and sharing options.
You may want to allow everyone to reply to messages if you want to get the attention of as many people as possible (followers, friends, friends of friends, etc.). Also, consider archiving your history so you don't lose your photos or videos.
It is also better to allow the exchange. When sharing is enabled, followers and friends will be able to share photos, videos, and GIFs or mini videos with others as messages.
If you allow re-sharing, other users can share your entire story in their stories. Don't worry, no one but you will get the credit as your username must be in their post.
You can remove photos from your history, but you cannot add new ones. Unlike regular Instagram posts, where no photo or video can be deleted, Stories give you a little more flexibility.
You can click "More" as before and click "Delete" on the photo or video you want to get rid of.
To delete the entire history, simply swipe up from the bottom and touch the trash can icon. Click "Delete" on the pop-up window and you can re-publish the content to make any necessary changes.
Editing Highlights
While you can't make any adjustments to videos or photos after they've been posted, you can play around with the highlights of your story. When you've created the perfect Instagram story, adding highlights means it'll become part of your Instagram account forever, not disappear after 24 hours (unless you delete it, of course).
For example, you can add a new selection whenever you want.
- Tap the Highlights icon
- Enter a title or description for the new highlight
- Tap Add
Once your new snippet appears on your profile page, you can tap on it to edit it his. The only thing you can change is the title and cover. Everything else is disabled for already published highlights, as well as for stories.
Brief note on signatures
You may have noticed that you can edit the captions of your existing posts. While this may be true, it's not possible to edit captions for photos and videos you've added to your story.
There is no edit button or edit option in the menu when you select an image or video from history. You can change your privacy settings or remove individual photos and videos from history.
Any other changes must be made prior to publication. Of course, you can delete the photo, edit it, apply filters, add captions, and then re-upload it to your story. However, it will be listed as the last item added to your story, so you can't go unnoticed. If the order of your photos was important, this option won't do you much good.
