How to change the font in your Instagram bio
(Image credit: Solen Feyissa via Unsplash)You may be wondering how to change the font in your Instagram bio if you've seen examples of profiles with non-standard fonts on the platform. If you use a different font on Instagram, it can grab attention and make your profile and copy stand out, and it's actually very easy to do. You don't even need to download any special app.
To change the font in your Instagram bio, or indeed in the captions on your Instagram posts, all you need to do is copy the text into one of the many Instagram font generator tools, choose the font you like and paste it in. It's as easy as that, but we'll illustrate the process below.
Instagram remains one of the most popular social media platforms for artists and designers due to its focus on imagery. To make your profile stand out in a crowded marketplace – which you might particularly want to do if you're getting to grips with how to sell on Instagram, an unusual font can help. Just remember that you don't want it to look childish, amateur or cheesy, so do take some time to choose which Instagram font to use. See some more pointers at the bottom of this guide.
Need some inspiration? Check out our list of free fonts to help you decide on the type of font you might like. The odd emoji is also good for breaking things up and adding a bit of personality and colour, but don't go overboard or your bio may become off-putting or hard to read.

01. Choose your font
(Image: © Fancy Fonts)
First up, you'll need to open up an online Instagram font generator tool. There are many available on the web, including Insta Fonts , Fancy Fonts and Cool Symbol , but one of our favourites is Meta Tags Font Generator , because it makes it super easy to preview how your font will look live on your Instagram profile.
Type or paste in the text that you want to change into the box that reads 'Edit text'. Below, you'll see a list of fonts that can be used in Instagram, together with previews of how your text would look in each of them. If you're on a desktop computer or tablet, you'll also see a mockup of how your text will look in an Instagram profile on the right.
Meta Tags Font Generator makes it easy to preview your chosen font (Image credit: Meta Tags Font Generator)Some of these fonts are pretty simple; some use emoji and symbols, which may either look creatively inspiring or completely daft; and some will be almost impossible to read. Once you've found the font that works for you, use the 'Copy' button to copy the text.
02. Paste your text into Instagram

Now open Instagram, click on your profile picture, and click the Edit Profile button. In the form that appears, paste in your text into the appropriate box. Click Submit and you are done.
If you don't like the look of the font you've chosen, you can easily go back to step one and choose another. If you're using an iPhone or iPad and prefer a wider selection of fonts, check out the Fonts – for Instagram app for OS. Note that the same technique should also work to change the font in Instagram captions. Just right click and paste the text into the caption field when you're making an Instagram post.
Things to consider if you change your Instagram font
A crucial thing to remember is that changing the font in your Insta bio involves the use of unicode characters, which are often not accessible for people who use screen readers. This means you definitely don't want to put your whole bio, or entire captions, in a different font. Most people only change the font for their name, or a small part of the description.
Remember, too, that updating the text itself can have as much impact as changing the font, if not more. The ideal Instagram bio is generally short and sweet: a few snappy words rather than long sentences. Don't forget to include any relevant links to other accounts you manage. Learn how to use custom fonts where Instagram supports them, and even where it doesn't.
Instagram is fairly limited when it comes to fonts. For instance, there is no official setting that lets you change your Instagram's bio font or even the fonts of your comments. But that doesn't mean that you can't change fonts at all.
In this article, we'll show you different ways to change fonts in your Instagram Stories, bio, comments, and even captions.
How to Change Fonts in Your Text-Based Instagram Stories
One of the easiest things to customize on Instagram is the fonts in your text-based Stories. What makes this easy is that Instagram allows you to choose between a range of fonts by default. There's a total of nine fonts at the time of writing. Here's how to change the font of your text-based Instagram Story:
- Tap Your Story in the upper left of your Instagram feed.
- Grant Instagram necessary permission if you haven't already.
- Select Camera and tap the Aa button on the left. This will open a blank page for creating a text-only Story.
- Tap anywhere on the blank page to type. Once you're done, swipe the Aa button to view your text in other font types.
- Once you're satisfied with a font, simply tap Next in the top right and select Send to to post your Story.

How to Get New Fonts on Instagram
As mentioned above, you only get access to nine fonts by default. Thanks to enterprising people on the internet, though, you can use fonts that Instagram doesn't support officially. You can do this using Instagram font generator sites. Good examples include Cool Fonts, IGFonts.io, and FontsForInstagram.com.
Using such sites is easy. You just need to copy text from them, and it will retain its font style when you paste it into Instagram. This method gives you access to over 100 fonts, which dwarfs the nine Instagram offers by default.
Read on for step-by-step instructions on using font generator sites to change the fonts of your Instagram text.

Some are great and some will just make your text look funky and hard to read. If you don't like what's available, a site like IGFonts.io lets you create your own.

Instagram's strong point is visual, so all elements are important in the design of a publication: from the background of the cover to the lettering. nine0005
For text in stories, the social network offers several fonts. Each of them has its own purpose and “mood”, which can change the perception of the entire story.
What fonts are used in Instagram stories
The social network recently increased the number of fonts for stories, and now there are nine of them. Below is a listing of fonts in the order they are placed when editing stories in the app.
- The classic font is universal. It is suitable for almost any plot, it is easily perceived by the eye and is neutral. nine0023
- A modern font is good for headings because it only uses uppercase letters and has the right weight.
- Neon font looks like it's lit from the inside. If attention is important, this font is perfect, but it is better not to use it in long texts.
- Printed font, on the contrary, is good if there is a lot of text in the story. It is clear and well read.
- Double font with a shadow looks three-dimensional, has a slope. Recommended for headlines and short phrases. nine0023
- The creative font has a peculiarity: it looks attractive in Latin, but Russian letters are written in a standard way, without the handwriting effect.
- Magazine font makes text look more expensive. He is good at describing reputable companies, major events, glossy chronicles.
- Universal upper case can be used almost anywhere. It is distinguished by roundness and great softness in writing.
- The classic serif typeface is ideal for long texts. This font is recommended to be applied on a calm monochromatic background so that the words are clearly visible.
How to change the font on Instagram in Stories
Instagram settings allow you to experiment with fonts, their colors and backgrounds.
In order to change the font in the story, you need to:
- upload an image or video,
- select the “Aa” icon at the top of the screen:

- at the bottom of the screen, select one of the nine standard fonts by scrolling left and right:
The finished inscription can be placed on the substrate. To do this, after entering the text, you need to click on the “A” with stars” icon at the top of the screen. Each font assumes its own substrate, and clicking on this sign offers its options - light, dark, transparent.
- For a neon font, pressing the background button turns on the “light” for the letters. nine0023
- For a double font, this character adds different variations of the shadow from the characters.
- Creative Font Underlay looks like a brush stroke.
The font in stories can be changed in size and color. In the first case, you need to adjust the height of the letters using the tool on the left side of the screen, moving the circle up and down:
The color of the inscription changes in the palette located at the top of the screen.
How to add your own font to Instagram stories
It must be admitted that the standard set of fonts for stories is very limited. If you want original writing, you can use special services, applications and bots to generate various fonts. nine0005
All of them work on the same principle: you enter your text, choose the font you like, and then copy the finished inscription to the story.
