Can Software Engineers Work From Home?
There is no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the normal economic system. This resulted in many people losing their jobs and other sources of livelihoods. Therefore, the South African Government through SASSA (South African Social Security Agency) introduced the R350 grant as part of the COVID-19 Social Relief Of Distress Fund. The money is disbursed monthly and can be collected at various points across South Africa. The good news is that the R350 SASSA grant application can be done through WhatsApp. Now the question is, “How to apply for the R350 SASSA Grant on WhatsApp?” Here are the steps outlined below:
Step One: Simply save the following number on your mobile phone (+27) 082 046 8553 or you may save it directly like this +270820468553
Step Two: Send a message Sassa to the number you saved as instructed above via WhatsApp
Step Three: When you receive a message reply with the word SRD.
Step Four: You will then receive a message giving you two options on whether you are applying for yourself or someone else. So it is up to you to choose either option 1 or option 2.
Step Five: The next message will ask you to provide your full name, so you will have to answer by giving your FULL NAME (Full name simply means both your first name and last name as it appears on your ID).
Step Six: This time around, reply with your SURNAME only.
Step Seven: You will receive a link containing terms and conditions of the grant. If you agree with the terms and conditions please respond with a YES. If you do not agree reply with a NO.
Step Eight: You will then be required to reply with your HOME ADDRESS or simply share your home location pin.
Step Nine: The next message will require to select your citizen status 1. SA Citizen 2. Permanent Resident 3. Refugee. So reply with the best option that applies to you.
Step Ten: Lastly, you will receive a message with a reference number, a one-time pin (OTP) and a link. Use that link to complete your application either on GovChat or the SRD Website. Please note that the link will only be valid for two hours.
ALL THE BEST IN YOUR GRANT APPLICATION!!!

People wanting to apply for the R350 grant can now do so by making use of Sassa's Whatsapp line. The Whatsapp line can be accessed by saving the following number as a Whatsapp contact: 082 046 8553.
The number is linked to #LetsTalk, which is a customer engagement platform that handles Sassa related services, among other things.
Here's how to submit your R350 grant application using the Whatsapp line
- Open a chat with the Sassa Whatsapp line number (082 046 8553) that you've saved as a contact
- Send a text saying "Hi"
- An automated response will prompt you to then text "help"
- Once you've done this, another automated response will inform you of the services offered on the Whatsapp line. Text "4" in order to access Sassa related services
- Type "SRD" to apply for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD)
- State whether you are completing the application for yourself or someone else
- Follow the prompts and submit your personal details in order to complete your application for the grant
Sassa has urged all applicants who have already applied on the website to not reapply via the Whatsapp line. This is to avoid having multiple applications under the name of one applicant.
