Do you have too many friends or friends of friends posting annoying messages on your Facebook News Feed? Here’s how to avoid it.
Facebook is currently the world’s largest social network, and you might have friends of friends who you don’t even know. Maybe they post photos or other content you don’t want to see. Perhaps you don’t like their posts because you disagree with that person’s stance on things. Or, maybe your relationship with that person in real life has gone down the drain. Whatever the case, here’s a look at some options you have to avoid seeing their annoying posts in your newsfeed.
Before you decide to go as far as unfriending someone, you might want to take more passive action and hide posts you disagree with. Keep in mind that if you do this, the Facebook algorithm will try to hide similar posts in the future. If that is ok with you, click the options button (…) and select Hide post from the menu that pops up.
After you select the option to hide the post, Facebook gives you a few other options. You can click the link to see less from that person. Or, if you determine the post is offensive or spam, you can report it to the company. Also, if you change your mind, you can click to undo the action, and the post will show up again in your timeline.
If you no longer want to see any posts from a ‘Friend,’ then you can unfollow them. Just select the Unfollow option from the same menu. You will remain friends with that person; however, you won’t see any more of their posts. Like with hiding posts, you can also undo this option later if you change your mind.
If you have multiple people you want to unfollow, you can do that in one fell swoop. Head to News Feed > Edit Preferences at the top-left of the page.
When the Preferences menu pops up, select “Unfollow people to hide their posts.”
Now you can go through and select people, pages, or groups that you don’t want to follow and then click the Done button at the bottom.
Note: From this menu, you can also manage which posts you see first. Just select “Prioritize who to see first” at the top of the Preferences menu and select the groups, pages, or people you want to appear first in your newsfeed.
If you want to completely “break up” with a friend on Facebook, you can either block or unfriend them. To block someone, head to Settings and then choose Blocking from the left column. Then you can type in a person’s email or name in the Block Users field. When you block someone, they no longer see your posts, can’t tag you in photos, or invite you to events or groups. Note that from here, you block messages as well as app and event invites from specific users.
To Unfriend a user, find their Facebook page, hover over the Friends button and then click Unfriend from the menu that pops up. The person you unfriend doesn’t receive a notification that the friendship has ended, but they will probably catch on eventually.
Do you have too many friends or friends of friends on Facebook and want to clean up your newsfeed? This should help you get rid of the posts you no longer wish to see.

Sure, Facebook can be a great way to connect and stay in touch with family and friends. Yet, more often than not, it’s a headache that can turn toxic thanks to the News Feed.
Whether it’s fake news, envy-inducing vacation photos from a classmate you barely know, or a relative’s upsetting political post, there are just some things better left unseen. True, you could unfollow a page if you want to stop seeing those kinds of posts, but you can’t exactly unfollow your uncle or a close friend without potentially putting those relationships at risk.
Thankfully, there’s a way around it. It turns out, you can customize your Facebook feed so you don’t have to see their posts without needing to unfriend anybody. There are a number of ways to do so, whether you just want to hide a single post or hide all of someone’s posts indefinitely. We’ll guide you through your options here.
Click on the three dots near the top right of the post you’d like to get rid of.
A menu will pop up that you can use to hide, snooze, or unfollow posts.
And that’s it! As a side note, though, if you don’t wish to remove the profile’s posts entirely but simply see less of them, it might be a good idea to tap on Favorites. This will prioritize the posts of people and pages you want to see more of in your feed. You may still see the posts you don’t want to view, but it likely won’t be as often.
Don’t worry: if you ever wish to turn off a Snooze or follow somebody back, Facebook also offers a number of ways for you to do so. One of these is through customizing your feed.
Underneath your profile photo, click on “Settings & privacy.”
Under “Settings & privacy,” click on “Feed.”
You should now see a menu presenting you with a number of options.
After selecting “Feed,” you’ll see options that will allow you to undo a “Snooze,” follow profiles back, and more.
Click on the clock next to the profile to turn off the “Snooze.”
Click on the black filing box icon to follow the profile again.
And voila! You’re done. Now next time you come across a relative’s cringeworthy, most definitely politically incorrect Facebook post, you can just hit “Snooze.” When you’re ready, you can undo it whenever you please — and nobody will suspect a thing.

First, before you unfollow or unfriend someone, you have the option to hide individual messages created by one of your friends. Which can be a useful first step if a friend posts something you don't like, or just something you don't want to see on your timeline. One side effect of this is that Facebook will try to hide similar posts in the future, which may not be what you want.
To hide the message, Click the ellipsis button ( ) next to the post. From the dropdown menu, click on the link to hide the post.
Facebook then gives you a few options. You can click the Cancel button to disable activity hiding if you change your mind and still want to see this post. You can click on the snooze button to snooze that person for 30 days, in which case you won't see their posts for that period of time. If a post is offensive or inappropriate in some way, you can report it in Facebook's post-report option.
If you keep getting unwanted messages from someone, you can delay that person for 30 days at once. This action sends messages that the person has to type Facebook Purgatory, where their posts won't show up on your Timeline for the next 30 days. To do this, click the ellipsis button next to the post and select the option to delay for 30 days.
Again, Facebook is introducing some additional options. Click the Undo button to turn off repeat actions if you change your mind. Click the "report" button if you want to report a post for being offensive or inappropriate.
Okay, let's say you want to take them a step further and make sure you never see a single post from this person in your news feed. That's when you want to unsubscribe personality. Click the ellipsis button next to any of the user's posts, and then click the Unsubscribe button.
You stay friends with a person but don't see their posts. If you change your mind, click Cancel. You can also report a post if necessary.
If the post is alarming or relative in some way, you can take further action. In this case, Click the ellipsis button and select the "give feedback on this post" option.
On the next screen, select a category to describe regarding the post - options include nudity, violence, harassment, hate, or something else. Then click the Submit button to send the report to Facebook.
You can unfollow multiple people in the same frame or re-follow someone previously unfollowed.
To do this, click the ellipsis button next to News in the left column and select "Edit Settings".
A pop-up menu will appear with options to manage your news feed. To unfollow multiple people, select the second option for Unfollow people and groups to hide your posts. Select the people, pages, or groups you no longer want to appear in your news feed and click Done.
If you are ready to see messages from people you are disturbed, select the option to rejoin people and groups you are disturbed. Select the people whose posts you want to appear in your News Feed. Click the Done Button.
Next you can translate messages with multiple people in the same frame and unsnooze previously delayed ones. To do this, click the option to manage the repeat settings. Select the people you want to snooze or unsnooze.
Okay, let's take it to the next level. You can block someone on Facebook, which means the person can no longer see your messages, tag you, invite you to events or groups, start a conversation with you, or add you as a friend.
