The pop-out chat bubbles in the Facebook Messenger app get a little too much sometimes, especially when you are using your iPhone for some serious work. While there are plenty of options to ensure Messenger remains in the background, sometimes it’s not enough. And add to it, there’s no straightforward way to log out (not surprised, Facebook!). Don’t worry! I have found two methods using which you can log out of Facebook Messenger on your iPhone and iPad. Let’s check them out!
Unlike other chat platforms, Facebook Messenger doesn’t provide a direct ‘tap and log out’ option to users. I hope the steps mentioned above acquainted you with the hidden trick to log out of Messenger.
If there’s anything else you need me to help with, please feel free to share it in the comment section.

The Facebook app on your iPad gives you access to most of the features you'd enjoy when using the social media platform on a computer: viewing friends' posts and pictures, adding your own photos and videos, updating your status, and more.
However, one thing the Facebook app does not allow is ready use of Facebook Messenger.
To access Facebook Messenger on your iPad, you need to get the separate Facebook Messenger app.
But you can't simply log out of Messenger using the Messenger app — for that, you need to go back into the main Facebook app and follow these steps.
1. From the home page of the Facebook app on your iPad, tap the three parallel lines at the bottom right corner of the page.
Select the "Menu" option in the bottom right. Steven John/Business Insider2.
Scroll down and then tap the "Settings & Privacy" tab.
3. Tap "Settings" from the new dropdown menu.
4. Tap "Security and Login" under the "Security" section on the next page.
5. Beside "Where you're logged in," tap the words "See More."
See the devices that you're logged into here. Steven John/Business Insider6.
Identify the iPad on which the Messenger app is active (look for the word "Messenger") and tap the three vertical dots.
7. Tap the "Log Out" button that appears.
Now head back to the Messenger app, and you should be prompted to log in, proving that you successfully logged out.

Facebook Chat isn't a prominent feature, but it's handy. Located in the bottom right corner of the Facebook website, it displays your friends who are online and available and allows you to chat with them instantly. But if you don't want to chat with anyone in real time when you log into Facebook, just turn off the chat and change your status from active to inactive. If you're using Facebook or Messenger on other devices, you'll also need to change your status to inactive.
The following describes how to turn off chat on Facebook, on a computer, on the Android app, on the iOS app, or on a mobile browser.
Facebook Chat is linked to the Messenger application. If you start chatting on Facebook on your desktop, you will see messages in Messenger on your mobile device.
If you are logged into Facebook on your computer, disable chat using the Facebook chat menu.
Log in to Facebook on your computer.
Click on the gear icon in the lower right corner of the screen to open the Facebook chat menu.
Select Disable Active Status . The Active Status window opens.
Select Disable active status for all contacts, if you want to disable the Facebook chat feature for all your contacts.
Select Disable active status for all contacts except …, if you want to allow some contacts to chat with you. Enter the names of the people you want to chat with.
Select " Turn off active status for some contacts only", if you want to prevent only certain people from communicating with you.
Enter these names.
Select OK .
You will now appear offline to other Facebook users in the chat window. They can still send you messages, but the message won't automatically open or display a toast notification. However, you will see red numbered notices at the top of the page.
To turn chat back on, click the Enable Active Status link at the bottom of the Facebook Chat sidebar, or click the gear icon at the bottom right of the screen and select Enable Active Status .
You will not be active for other users.
Open the Facebook application on your mobile device.
Press three horizontal lines or button menu .
Scroll down and tap Settings & Privacy .
Press Settings .
Click Active status in section "Privacy".
Click the toggle next to " Show when you're active" to turn it off.
Click " Shutdown" in the notification window " Disable active status" and exit.
If you're logged into Facebook using a browser on your mobile device, here's how to disable the chat feature.
Make sure you are logged into Facebook using your device's mobile browser, such as Chrome, Safari, or Firefox.
TAB hamburger button in the upper right corner of the screen.
Press Settings .
Click Active status in section "Privacy".
Click on the link Disable Active Status .
To turn chat back on, repeat the steps and tap the link Turn on active status .
To truly remain incognito on Facebook, you also need to disable active status in the Messenger app. To do this, open Messenger and tap your profile picture. Scroll down and turn off Active Status.
It happens to the best of us. You mind your own business and then bam -Someone adds you to a Facebook group chat to schedule office collaborations, constantly spams your inbox. Here's how to close them.
If you don't use Facebook's group chat feature often, you're probably surprised how quickly being added to a chat becomes a nuisance. When there are a lot (if not dozens) of people in a group chat, if each person only sends a few messages to the group a day, it's still dozens and dozens of notifications sounding on your computer or popping up on your phone.
Let's take a look at how you can calm down using the Facebook web interface and the Facebook Messenger app on your mobile device.
To manage chat notifications from the Facebook web interface, log in to your Facebook account and look for the chat icon on the right side of the navigation bar. Click the chat icon, and then click the group chat entry you want to disable.
In the lower right corner of the browser panel, you will see the chat window for this conversation. Click the gear icon in the title bar of the chat window and select Mute Conversation.
Here you can choose for how long you want to disable the conversation. If you just want to silence chatter about an upcoming event during a meeting, the "1 hour" setting may be enough until the morning "Before 8am", and if you want to keep the conversation going at your convenience without "Until you turn it on" notifications.
Whatever choice you make here will also apply to your Facebook Messenger message notifications on your mobile device.
