Curating the perfect Instagram grid isn’t a simple process. Sometimes, you need to get rid of old posts to achieve the look you’re going for, but you don’t have to delete your outdated photos into oblivion to get there. You can actually remove posts from your personal feed by saving them in an archive on Instagram. That way, you don’t have to delete posts that you might want to resurrect later. To keep a handle on your pics of Instagram past, you’ll need to know how to view your archived Instagram posts. Thankfully, it’s super simple to check out your throwbacks, and it may inspire you to fully change up your IG ~aesthetic~.
Instagram launched the Post Archive in July 2017, but if you have yet to use it, you won’t have any pictures in your personal Post Archive. (If you share Stories on Instagram, though, they’ll always show up in your archive under Stories Archive.) To archive posts from your Instagram grid, go to your Instagram feed and find a photo you’d rather not have on your grid anymore. After you select the post, tap the three dots in the upper right corner of the post and choose Archive. That will remove it from your grid and add it to your Instagram archive without deleting it entirely. This is where the ability to access your archived Instagram posts comes in.
The process to access those Instagram posts once you’ve archived them is fairly simple. First, go to your Instagram profile. Once you're there, tap the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner of your screen, which will produce a drop-down menu. Select “Archive,” which is the second option in the menu and has a picture of a reverse-arrow clock.
InstagramOnce you’re in your archive, you may only see your Stories at first and not your archived posts. In order to toggle to the Posts Archive, tap “Stories Archive” at the top of the screen. You’ll see another drop-down menu with three options: “Stories Archive,” “Posts Archive,” and “Live Archive.” You’ll want to choose “Posts Archive.” (The Live Archive is where you’ll be able to find any previous Instagram live streams you’ve done.)
Once you do that, all of the posts you've archived on Instagram will appear on the screen. The coolest part about the feature is each image is still fully edited as it was when you first posted it, and will have all of the likes and comments from when you initially posted it. In other words, nothing about the post has changed aside from the fact it's now private and won’t show up on your feed.
If you're scrolling through your archived content and see a picture you really like, you can always re-post it onto your Instagram grid. To do so, tap the picture in your archive and tap the three dots in the upper right corner. When you do that, two options will appear: “Delete” or “Show on Profile.” Choose the latter to have your post automatically posted back to your grid and removed from your archive. When you post it back to your profile, the un-archived photo won’t show up at the top of your grid. Instead, it'll be posted chronologically according to the original date you posted it.
If you’re in search of old Stories, you can find them in the same place as archived posts. All you need to do is choose "Stories Archive" from the archive menu, and your old pics and vids will be there. When you click into an old Story, you can tap the three dots at the bottom right corner to find the options to delete it, save it, or share it as a post on your grid. You can also re-share it to your Story or save it as a highlight by tapping the respective icons at the bottom of your photo or video.
So the next time you want to freshen up your personal feed, archive away. No need to stress over whether you need to delete a pic for good.

Necessity
Modern Instagram has become more fastidious lately. If earlier any picture would have been suitable, now in the conditions of fierce competition, his tape requires more attention and a special approach. If you want to be popular and get more readers to subscribe to you, you definitely need to watch your style and apply the same filter for all pictures. It happens that a post is posted, and after a while I found out that it does not fit, but it is a pity to delete it. In this case, the correct solution is to archive. Just like before putting unnecessary photos in a box.
A saved post in the archive is not changed in any way. It has the same text, likes and comments. Nobody will see it except you. However, you can send it to your friend in Direct. And when needed, it can easily be returned to the feed to the same place where it was originally posted - at the same date and time.
The archive was created due to the fact that users often deleted their publications. Sometimes by mistake, and also to hide it temporarily, with no particular desire to erase it permanently. The owner of the account was at a disadvantage, and Instagram also lost in its performance. Therefore, there is now a magical “Archive” button, with which you can save all publications, both with photos and videos. As a result, everyone is happy. And in addition to the new function, they came up with several useful applications. That's about them right now and will be discussed.
- Visual cleaning. Sometimes you need to clean up your account. This happens especially often when a business page is made from a private profile. When you need to leave in sight only those photos that match the style and meaning of the profile. And all sorts of flowers, cats and personal pictures no longer fit into the established format.
It is often a pity to delete such photos. That's when the save function becomes useful.
- Availability of goods in the Instagram store. It is very convenient to use the archive to hide publications with the specified positions, which are not currently available. This reduces the likelihood of unnecessary questions about it. But when it reappears, the post with it can be immediately restored.
- Saving important information. Posts are often saved to return to useful material or interesting dialogue under the post. Content can be duplicated over time, and the text can be useful for new ideas in the future.
- Saving statistics. Bloggers often publish promotional posts in their feed. In order for the visual series to be preserved, they are sent to the archive in a day. So that later at any time it would be possible to provide the advertiser with statistics of the collected likes and comments.
- Template publications. For example, you need to write texts for marathons, promotions and other events. As a rule, such information has a limited validity period. It is recommended to remove it from the tape to the archive. But when the time comes for such publications, you can easily copy the template and paste it into a new post.
- Creating intrigue. A common method of attracting the attention of popular stars. When all content is sent to the archive, and the public immediately asks various questions in bewilderment and begins to propagate rumors and gossip. This was done by American singer Taylor Swift on the eve of the release of the album, which attracted a lot of attention and increased sales of her product. The same can be done with any account, warming up subscribers before changing activities or releasing a new product line.
- Delayed posting. For example, you wrote a post at night. But publishing it at this time means no one will see it. You freeze it in the archive and unzip it when, according to statistics, your target audience is actively sitting on Instagram. Similarly, you can make a series of posts and pull them out of the archive.
How to archive
Everything is very simple here. Open the post and go to its settings. These are three vertical lines in the upper right corner. In the menu that opens, select the "Archive" button and click it. And everything is a point. This is the whole process.
However, first think carefully, because there will be no additional questions in the style of “Are you sure you want to archive this post?” Even if you change your mind, then we will also look at how to get a photo from the archive. But first things first.
It also happens (very rarely) that this button is missing. In this case, you need to go to page management.
Next, look in the "Privacy and Security" section, the "History Settings" subsection and go into it.
Find "Save" and check that the button on the blue background is turned on next to "Save to archive".
After the above steps, you can send your publications to the repository in any quantity.
Where is the archive located and how to view archived photos on Instagram
Users often panic. And indeed, for this you need to know where the pictures are saved. And we will tell you about it now.
As a rule, many people immediately start looking for archiving in Settings. But it is hidden behind a button in the form of a clock with a reverse movement.
If you haven't archived any posts yet, the page will be blank and look like this.
However, if you archived a photo and you don't see it here, don't worry. The fact is that when you go there, you see a bookmark with stories. And if you need saves, open the drop-down menu and select "Publications".
You can open a photo, read the text to it, view likes and comments. And you can also send it to your friend in Direct.
However, to find out how to return a photo, go to the next section of our article.
How to unarchive posts
To do this, you need to open the publication, go to its settings.
