By India Today Web Desk: Telegram has emerged as one of the most popular and widely used instant messaging applications for communication. A cloud-based instant messaging software, Telegram is free and open source that puts more emphasis on security. It comes with a cross-platform service, end-to-end encrypted video calling, file sharing, VoIP and several other features, which makes it even more popular.

Telegram was released for iOS and Android devices in the year 2013 and currently the app for Android has more than 500 million downloads on the Google Play Store.

However, many times, you may encounter people with whom you do not want to communicate and choose to block them. Telegram allows you to block people in your contacts but the messenger does not send notifications to the blocked contact. If a user blocks you on Telegram, you will not be able to send messages to that particular user.

Here's how you can check if someone has blocked you on Telegram

-No 'Online Status' or 'Last Seen': You will no longer be able to see the status updates if you block someone on Telegram. The app offers a 'last seen' option which you can disable or modify accordingly. If someone has blocked you on Telegram, then the status of the user will not appear.

You will not be able to see the 'online status' when the other person enters the platform if you have been blocked. Moreover, you will mostly see 'long time ago' instead of an estimated date or time. You can also compare the status of the same person with two different Telegram accounts to check if someone has blocked you on Telegram or not.

-No profile picture: Another way to check if you have been blocked on Telegram is to check the display or the profile picture of the user. When blocked, the contact loses access to a portion of the profile information in the messaging application, which also includes the profile picture. If the photo of the user that was previously visible to you gets replaced by the contact's initials, it means that you have been blocked on Telegram.

If you cannot view the profile picture of a user, there are chances that he/she has not added you to the contacts and decided to change the visibility settings of the profile picture. In such cases, only people who are added to the contact list can see the profile picture.

-Messages not being delivered: If someone blocks you on Telegram, then you will no longer be able to send the messages. If you believe that a contact has blocked you, send a message. And if the message shows only a single tick, this means you have been blocked. But if you receive the confirmation of the message sent, which is indicated by two ticks, this means you have not been blocked on Telegram.

-No Voice or Video Calls: You can also place a voice or video call to a person to find out if a person has blocked you or not. In order to check, you can contact the concerned individual via Telegram by calling him/her. If the call is not complete or displays a privacy notice, you must understand that you have been blocked.

-No 'account deleted' notification from the Telegram team: Users can delete their messaging accounts on Telegram and, with this, all the messages and context (media, files) exchanged with friends via the app also gets deleted.

If a person deletes his/her own Telegram account, then those chatting with the deleted profile will see an 'Account Deleted' notice in the chat. But if the 'Account Deleted' warning does not display on the Telegram app, then it is very likely that you have been blocked.

5 Tips to Know If You Are Blocked on Telegram

Telegram, the messaging app available for Android and iOS and the main rival of WhatsApp, allows you to block contacts and bots saved in the app. The messenger does not send notifications to the blocked contact, but it is possible to identify some clues by the app’s own resources and thus know if someone has blocked you in Telegram.

Checking if the online status and the contact’s profile photo are visible are some of the tips, and you can check others in the list below to find out if you have been blocked on Telegram.

1. No “Last seen” or “Online” status

When you block a contact on Telegram, it is no longer for them to see your status updates. In other words, they will no longer be able to read the messages below the name that indicates when you are online, and when you last used the messenger.

For that reason, if the status updates of any contact in your list are no longer visible to you and there is only a message like “Seen a long time ago”, this can be an indication that your friend has blocked you on the messenger.

2. Photo of the contact does not display

Similar to the previous topic, the contacts you blocked also lose access to some of your profile information in the messenger app, which includes the photo used in the messenger’s profile. Therefore, another way to know if your friend has blocked you on Telegram is to observe if his photo, which was previously visible to you, has been replaced by the respective initials of the contact’s name.

3. Contact does not receive messages

When contact is blocked on Telegram, the messages sent by them no longer reach you. So, this is also a way to find out if someone has blocked you in the messenger. If you suspect that contact has blocked you, go to the chat and send a message.

If you only receive the confirmation of the message being sent, which is represented by a tick, and never the receipt of it (which are two ticks), it may be that your friend has blocked you.

4. Video and Voice Call not Complete

Another way to find out if you have been blocked by someone is to make calls to the person in question. If you suspect that your friend has blocked you, call him/her through the Telegram application. If the call does not complete or displays a privacy notice, it is likely he or she has blocked you.

5. Person does not answer and there is no “account deleted” warning

Telegram allows users to delete their messenger accounts, which implies permanently deleting all messages and content exchanged with friends by the application. When a contact deletes his Telegram account, the messenger displays an “Account Deleted” warning for those who were chatting with the deleted profile.

Therefore, if one of your contacts does not answer or no longer receives your messages if you can no longer view their status updates and profile picture, and if the “Account deleted” warning does not display, it is very likely that you have been blocked.

How to find out that your interlocutor has blocked you in Telegram, WhatsApp or Viber

Oleg Voronin —

Messengers have become an integral part of our lives. Most likely, instant messengers take up most of your time using a smartphone in principle, and they can only compete with video services like YouTube. nine0003

The fact that communication with other people occupies such an important place in our lives cannot but rejoice. Here you can grumble that, they say, this is not a live communication, but a miserable fake, but in fact this is not entirely true. Even when communicating in instant messengers by text or via audio-video communication, you experience the same emotions, and relationships with a person are also formed.

But even online communication is not complete without misunderstandings and quarrels. The result of a verbal skirmish may be a “black list”, in which you will enter your interlocutor - or maybe you will get yourself. Only there is a caveat: sometimes it’s not so easy to find out that you are on the “stop list” of another person. nine0003

Here we will tell you how to understand that you have been blocked in each of the most popular instant messengers: Telegram, Viber and WhatsApp.

1. Viber

The “purple” messenger has already passed the peak of its popularity in Russia, but many people still use it. Most often this is the older generation: parents, grandparents. And Viber is sometimes used in corporate communication and, willy-nilly, you have to keep it on your smartphone.

Note that if you are blacklisted, you will never know about it directly - unless the interlocutor himself informs you of this unfortunate fact. There will be no blocking notifications or bans on messages or calls in the chat. You can determine that the interlocutor has blocked you only by one single sign: messages are not delivered (one gray checkmark), although the person is “Online”. The status may not be displayed, but if the person obviously logs into Viber, and your messages are “Not delivered”, the conclusion is obvious. At the same time, your outgoing call inside Viber will always show “Call”, but the interlocutor will not even see it. nine0003

In general, this decision is understandable: the absence of blocking notifications will help the one who blocked to avoid disassembly and clarifications from the "blocked". However, for the latter, this state of affairs is not entirely convenient.

By the way, there is only one way to find out that you have been unblocked - send a message periodically. As soon as it is delivered, you are definitely "taken out of the closet."

Keep in mind that the interlocutor will not receive any of your messages that you sent while in the block. At the same time, after exiting the block, they will be displayed for you as “delivered” and “read” - don’t let the two purple checkmarks mislead you. A person will receive only those messages that were sent outside the blocking. nine0003

2. WhatsApp

WhatsApp gradually replaced Viber from Russian life and remains popular to this day. This messenger has become very famous thanks to the notorious "parent chats". It also has no ads like Viber.

As for WhatsApp, the situation is similar. The one who blocks receives a message that the blocked contact will no longer be able to send messages and make calls. But the victim of the blocking does not have any notifications. nine0003

Messages just go "one way" - a dull gray tick with no hope of turning blue. With calls, the same story: just endless beeps, while the interlocutor will not have any notifications about the call.

After unblocking, WhatsApp behaves more correctly: "delivered" (two blue checkmarks) are marked only those messages that were sent outside the blocking. Accordingly, the interlocutor blocked in the past sees what exactly the blocker read and what did not reach him. So much clearer and calmer. nine0003

3. Telegram

Pavel Durov's messenger is rightfully considered a service of "young and progressive". It is packed full of features and functionality, while combining the experience of a classic messenger with the role of an innovative newsfeed in channels. Telegram is actively gaining popularity and audience, in the Russian App Store it has been in first place in the Messengers category for some time.

If you want to block someone, Telegram will warn you with a pop-up window - this person will not be able to message or call you on Telegram. At the same time, he himself is blocked and will not learn anything here; the chat will look absolutely normal, except for one thing: his messages will not receive more than one tick. In the case of calls, everything is more obvious here: the messenger will not create the appearance of work, but will immediately write “Call failed” and simply hang up the call. nine0003

By the way, Telegram (unlike WhatsApp and Viber) gives the “victim” two more bad signs: if the interlocutor has blocked you, then his status changes to “Been online for a long time” within a couple of minutes, and the avatar is hidden , even if it was previously visible to you.

After unlocking, Telegram shows the same error: a person who has come out of disgrace sees two checkmarks (“Delivered”) on all his previously sent messages, while the recipient traditionally receives only those that were sent outside the block. At the same time, you (as a happy unlocked) again see the status “Online” and the avatar of the interlocutor. nine0003

Small conclusion

Based on the above checks, some general conclusions can be drawn. You can find out that you are blocked:

  • by undelivered messages
  • by "endless" beeps when calling
  • in Telegram: according to the status "Online" and the avatar of the interlocutor.

At the same time, only WhatsApp correctly shows the status of sent messages during blocking (“Not delivered”), while Viber and Telegram falsely make it clear that all your “convulsions” during blocking were supposedly read by the interlocutor. nine0003

How to find out who blocked me in Telegram

Reading time: 2 min.

Telegram is a relatively new messenger. The creators took care of the users, making the application convenient for daily use. Sometimes communication with a person goes in a different direction, they do not answer you for a long time. Suspicions creep in that your contact has been blacklisted. We will not deal with the reasons for this phenomenon, but we will tell you how to find out who blocked in the Telegram.

Blockage symptoms

There are several factors that indicate a blockage. In social networks, such as VKontakte, blocking users was easy. The person simply could not send messages. In Telegram, there are no notifications in the chat. When your contact is blacklisted by a user, then:

  • you cannot see the person's online status. The chat displays “has been online for a long time”, “last seen recently”. If a person wrote to another contact, you know this, but a similar online status is displayed, then you are blacklisted; nine0091
  • your messages permanently with one tick. This means that your messages are delivered only to the server, they will not come to the right contact. It is not worth 100% focusing on such a sign: a person really could not enter the application or he does not want to read what is written;
  • You can't see the user's avatar. If there was an avatar, but disappeared after the alleged blocking, then most likely you are on the black list.

By these signs, you can understand that you are on the blacklist of the user. If you are unblocked after a certain time, then messages written during the blocking will not be delivered. Although in this case two checkmarks are displayed, which indicates a read message in Telegram. nine0003

Fallback solutions

There is no 100% guarantee in Telegram that you have been blocked. A person could simply not enter the application, remove the profile picture. Therefore, it is better to play it safe. To do this, try to contact the person by phone, in other instant messengers. If possible, contact in person. You can also ask mutual friends to contact a person if he does not answer in other chats. Of course, you won't unlock yourself. Please be aware that the application may experience crashes. Therefore, do not rely only on suspicions. nine0003

If you have a conversation with the person who blocked you, try writing there marked @username. In this case, the message will be delivered. You can try to write from your other account if you have two Telegram profiles.
