As previously mentioned, It’s important to note that removing an Instagram account isn’t the same as deleting it. It won’t show up on your phone anymore when you remove it, but you can still log back in anytime you want. Also, other people can still see your account once you remove it from your profile, mainly because the account is still active.

If you have one or more Instagram accounts on your iPhone and you want to remove one, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the “Instagram” app.
  2. Make sure you’re currently on the account that you want to log out of.
  3. Tap your “profile” icon in the bottom-right corner.
  4. Tap the “hamburger” icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner.
  5. Select “Settings.”
  6. Choose “Log Out.”
  7. Select “Log Out” again to confirm.
  8. Even though you’ve logged out of your account, it will be there the next time you open the app again. This occurs due to enabled saved login information, which you need to remove as well. Open the Instagram app on your iPhone.
  9. Ensure you’re currently in the account you want to remove.
  10. Tap the “profile icon” in the bottom-right corner, not the big one towards the top.
  11. Select the “hamburger icon” in the top-right corner.
  12. Choose “Settings.”
  13. Tap on “Security.”
  14. Choose “Saved Login Info.”
  15. Move the “Saved Login Info” slider button to turn it off.

By following the steps listed above, you ensure that Instagram doesn’t remember the account info on your device. Now, you can repeat the steps mentioned above to log out.

As previously mentioned, your Instagram account is now removed from your device but remains an active account. Therefore, you can log back in anytime by entering your username and password again. Regardless, people can still search for your Instagram profile and view it when you delete it from your smartphone because you still have the account.

How to Remove an Instagram Account from the Android App

If you have one or more Instagram accounts on your Android Instagram app and you want to remove one, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the “Instagram” app.
  2. Confirm that you’re currently on the account that you want to log out of.
  3. Tap your “profile icon” in the bottom-right corner.
  4. Tap the “hamburger icon” at the top-right corner.
  5. Choose “Settings” and then select “Log Out.”
  6. Confirm the action by tapping on “Log Out.”
  7. Even though you logged out from one of your accounts, it still appears on your Instagram. This is due to enabled saved login information. To remove the account from your Instagram app (not your account), launch the app.
  8. Check if you’re currently in the account you want to remove.
  9. Tap the “profile icon” at the bottom-right corner, not the profile icon towards the top.
  10. Tap the “hamburger icon” (three horizontal lines) at the top-right corner.
  11. Choose “Settings.”
  12. Select “Security.”
  13. Tap on “Saved Login Info.”
  14. Move the “Saved Login Info” slider to turn it off.

How to Temporarily Disable an Instagram Account

If you want more than just removing an Instagram account from your smartphone app, you can take a temporary break from Instagram altogether by disabling it. This action disables your Instagram account entirely, which means it will hide your profile, photos, comments, likes, etc. until you log back in on any device.

To temporarily disable your Instagram account, you have to log in using a computer or a mobile browser.

  1. Open a browser on your smartphone or PC and head to the Instagram login page. Log into the account you want disabled. If already logged into a different account, sign out and sign into the correct one.
  2. Tap/click on your “profile icon” in the top-right corner.
  3. Choose “Profile” from the list of options.
  4. Tap/click on “Edit Profile” next to your username.
  5. Scroll down and click or tap on “Temporarily disable my account” in the bottom-right corner.
  6. Instagram will ask you what the reason is for disabling your account. Choose an option from the drop-down list.
  7. Retype your password.

How to remove an account from Instagram

1. Open the Instagram app on your iPhone or Android. Tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner.

2. Tap the down arrow next to your Instagram username at the top of the screen.

3. Select the account that you want to remove from the drop-down list.

Even the owner of Instagram, Meta, admitted in internal documents that its social networks have a negative impact on sleep, work, parenting, work productivity and personal life of approximately 12. 5% ​​of users. And scientists from the University of British Columbia found that users' own lives begin to seem insufficiently bright and interesting compared to what they see on Instagram.

Meanwhile, until the spring of 2022, the social network was consistently in the top 10 in terms of downloads in Russia and in the world. The international agency We Are Social estimated that in 2021 Instagram ranked fourth in our country in terms of the number of users (61.2% of Russian Internet users go there), and in total 67.8% of the Russian population (99 million people) use social networks. The average Russian spends 3 hours a day outside of work at the monitor or with a smartphone.

In November 2021, Instagram began testing the Take a Break feature. It will allow users to escape from the continuous viewing of the feed. In the settings, it will be possible to set reminders for breaks, for example, 10, 20 or 30 minutes. After that, the application will issue a warning about the need to rest. However, this feature has been opened to a limited number of users so far.

For now, everyone has the only alternative - to give up Instagram for a while or for good.

How to permanently delete an Instagram account

This option should be chosen when the profile is definitely no longer useful: for example, if we are talking about the account of a company that has closed.

Before deleting a profile, Instagram will offer to save data from it. To do this, you need to send a download request. After that, an email will be sent to your email within 48 hours with a link where you can download photos and videos. You can also request a copy of your data through the Instagram app for Android and iPhone. To do this, open the menu in the profile, go to the "Settings" - "Security" section and select the "Download data" item. Next, you will need to enter your email address and account password.

Even after deleting the profile, it will be visible on the social network for another 30 days. During this time, the user can change his mind and restore the account. If within a month the owner of the profile has never logged into the system, then the account is permanently deleted.

In the web version

To delete a profile using a computer, you need to perform several steps:

  • go to the social network site and click on the "Help" button in the lower right corner;
  • go to the "Help Center" and select the line "Delete your account" in the left menu;
  • follow the link suggested in the article;

How to temporarily delete an Instagram account

The user can also stop using Instagram for any period and then restore the page. However, you can do this no more than once a week. A temporarily deleted profile is not visible to other users of the social network. To restore it, you just need to log into the application.

In the web version

To temporarily deactivate your profile using a computer, you must perform the following steps:

  • go to the social network site under your account;
  • click on the profile photo and select "Settings" in the menu that opens;
  • at the bottom of the page, click on the link "Temporarily disable my account";

From the phone

As in the case of the "permanent" deletion, temporary blocking of Instagram will require more steps:

Is it possible to delete a blocked Instagram account

To delete your account, you need to know your username and password. A forgotten password can be reset using an email address, phone number, or Facebook account. If the user does not have access to the email address specified during registration, and his Instagram and Facebook accounts are not linked, then the support service will not be able to provide access to the account.

How to download all your Instagram posts

When you delete your Instagram account, you will lose access to your publications and cannot restore them, so we advise you to download all your photos to your smartphone or computer in advance if you want to save them. At the end of the article, you can watch a video tutorial on how to delete an Instagram account.

This can be done in just a few clicks, since "Insta" allows you to download all your data at once. A copy of your materials that you have ever published on the social network will come to your mail in the form of a link - you can use it to download the archive with the files. It will contain all the information from Instagram: comments, lists of subscribers, saved publications, direct messages, and so on.

You can request a copy of your data through the Instagram app for Android and iPhone:

  • Click on your avatar in the lower right corner of the screen and go to your profile.
  • Open the menu by clicking on the three horizontal bars in the top right corner. Go to the "Your activity" - "Download information" section.
  • Next, you will need to enter your email address and password for your account.

Confirm these actions and expect an email with a link to download files - it will arrive within 48 hours. In our case, the link arrived on the same evening that it was requested.

Instagram: how to delete an account temporarily

If you do not want to permanently delete your profile, you can hide it for a while - in other words, turn it off. In this case, all your photos, likes and comments will be hidden and will appear only when you decide to activate your account again.

You cannot temporarily disable your Instagram account in the application - only through a browser on a computer or smartphone. Here's how to do it:

  • Open instagram. com in a browser.
  • Click on your avatar to go to your profile.
  • A new page will open with a small menu on the left side. Select "Edit Profile".
  • Scroll down to the "Temporarily disable my account" button.

Select the reason why you want to disable it. If it is, for example, the desire to delete an unsuccessful comment or post, Instagram will offer other ways to solve the problem and a whole list of links to guides on using the application.

How to permanently delete an Instagram account?

Deleting an Instagram account from a computer is very simple - it can be done through a browser. This also applies to smartphones: to remove Instagram from an iPhone, use Safari or any other browser installed on your phone. For Android, Chrome or Yandex is perfect.

Important: after deleting a profile, you will not be able to restore it. If you are not sure that you are ready to part with your page forever, then simply disable the account, and do not delete it.

Also, when deleting, you will lose your nickname - and any new user will be able to pick it up if you do not have time to create a new page with the same name. However, if your account was deleted for violating Instagram rules, then you will not be able to use the same nickname.

So, to delete a profile, you need to send a request to the support service. To do this, do the following:

  • You must be logged in to the social network, otherwise nothing will work. Sign in to your account.
  • Go to page Delete account="content_internal_link"> in any convenient browser (PC or phone).
  • In the "Why do you want to delete your account" form, select the appropriate reason.
  • Instagram will again offer possible solutions to the problem to keep you from deleting your profile. But if you are sure that you want to erase it forever, click the "Delete account" button at the bottom of the page.

The profile will not disappear immediately - the request will be processed from 30 to 90 days.
