How to Enable Notifications on Instagram on PC
Enabling notifications on Instagram on your PC is a relatively straightforward process that will take no more than a minute to complete. Maybe you find your PC easier to navigate through the app settings due to a larger interface. Just follow these steps to manage notifications on Instagram:
- Log in to your Instagram account on PC.
- Click on your avatar in the right-hand corner of the Instagram menu at the top.
- Click on the “Settings” section to open it.
- You’ll see a Settings menu on the left now. Navigate to the “Push Notifications” section and click to open it.
- If you didn’t receive any notifications from Instagram, it could be because they are turned off. Make sure to turn them on either to “From People I Follow” or “From Everyone” for each of the sections you want to receive notifications for.
You can enable notifications for the following categories: likes, comments, comment likes, likes, and comments on photos of you, accepted follow requests, Instagram Direct requests, Instagram Direct, reminders, first posts and stories, IGTV view counts, support requests, and live videos.
How to Get Notifications on Instagram When Someone Goes Live
Live broadcasting has become a popular way of engaging with an audience for most Instagrammers today. Whether it’s just your friend updating everyone on their latest life events, or your favorite singer having a Q&A session, you don’t want to miss any of these broadcasts.
The good news is that Instagram has live video notifications turned on for all users by default. This also means there’s no way to selectively turn them on and off for specific users. You can either receive notifications from everyone or turn them off in the Notifications settings.
In case you’re not receiving any live notifications, make sure they are turned on. Here’s how to check:
- Log in to your Instagram account and click on your avatar in the bottom toolbar to open the menu.
- Head over to the “Settings” page.
- Select the “Notifications” section.
- Once inside, check these two things:
- Is the “Pause All” toggle button disabled?
- Is the “Live Videos” section under “Live and Video” set to “On?”
- If the answer to the two questions above is no, make sure you disable the Pause All button and turn on the notifications from the “Live and Video” section.
You should now receive notifications about users going live on Instagram.
How to Get Notifications on Instagram When Someone Posts
As you scroll through your Instagram feed, you might notice that the posts are not sorted in chronological order. That’s because Insta uses special algorithms to show you relevant content that you’re bound to be interested in.
This method has brought a lot of success to the platform as users keep scrolling and staying engaged. As cool as this engagement method may sound, sometimes you end up missing posts from users that you’d like to see updates from. That’s when turning on notifications for specific users comes in.
If you want to get notified every time a specific person posts, here’s what you should do:
- When you see a post coming from that person on your news feed, tap on their username.
- Tap on the bell icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
- From the pop-up menu, select the notifications you want to turn on.
Now you’ll receive an alert on your phone every time that person uploads a new post.
Another way to enable notifications from a specific user is through their profile page:
- Go to Instagram search and type the username of the person you want to receive notifications from.
- Once on their profile, click on the bell icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
- From the options menu, select the notifications you want to turn on.
You have now enabled notifications from a specific user, and Instagram will send you alerts each time they post something new.
If you want to receive notifications from multiple users, you’ll have to repeat these steps for each person individually. The same goes for turning notifications off.
Note: You might get a notification if a user posts after a long time, even if you didn’t specifically choose to receive alerts from that person.

I Turned Notifications On but Still Not Receiving. What Can I Do?
Sometimes, you don’t receive notifications even if you have them enabled on your Instagram account. This might happen for several reasons, but no worries – we’re here to help you figure out what happened in your case.
Here are some of the reasons why you might not receive notifications:
• You have the “Do Not Disturb” mode turned on for your mobile device. This might be the case if you notice that you stop receiving notifications at a specific time of the day. Maybe you forgot that you set automatic “Do Not Disturb” mode at night, for example.
• Your phone notifications might be turned off. Make sure you have enabled notifications on your mobile device AND Instagram. Further down, you’ll find steps on how to enable notifications for iPhone and Android users.
• You’re in the power-saving mode. Another silly reason that happens more often than you think. If your phone is set on power-saving mode, you won’t be receiving push notifications from Instagram.
• Buggy app. Sometimes, the app is not compatible with your device. This is especially true if you didn’t download it from the App Store. Make sure you download the Instagram app from the official Play or App store, but first uninstall the current one on your phone.
• The cache memory is full. If you’ve been using the app for too long, it could be that your cache got corrupted or there’s too much of it. Clear the cache from the Storage and Cache settings on your phone, and log in to your Instagram account again.
Enable Notifications for iPhone Users
• Open the “Settings” page on your phone.
• Tap on the “Notifications” section.
• Scroll down until you see “Instagram” on the app list.
• Open it.
• You’ll see a toggle button next to the “Push Notifications” section. It should be enabled (green.)
If the toggle button is disabled (grey), you won’t receive notifications on your iPhone even if you have them enabled on your Instagram device.
Enable Notifications for Android Users
• Head over to the Android settings page.
• Tap on the “Apps” section.
• Go through your apps list until you find Instagram. Open it.
• Tap on the “Notifications” bar.
• Make sure that the “Show notifications” toggle is enabled (blue.) Here you can also adjust notifications by categories – comments, comment likes, Instagram Direct, and more. Just make sure the notifications you were missing are enabled now.
Why Should I Turn On My Notifications?
As we mentioned earlier, Instagram is a great place to keep up to date with the latest trends, updates from friends, celebrity news, and much more. However, due to its specific news feed algorithmic system, you can often miss an important update. Say your high-school friend just got married, but you didn’t text him in a while. This post can easily get buried in the mass of irrelevant content Instagram chooses to dish out to you. This is why you should turn on notifications to receive updates from important people.
Fine-Tuning Your Insta Notifications
Enabling Instagram notifications allows you to keep up with the evolving app and your followers’ activities. Dealing with Instagram’s notification settings might seem a bit complicated at first, but it’s really worth it.
Now you know how to enable notifications on Instagram on your phone or PC. You can also solve the issue of not receiving notifications after they were turned on, as well as enabling notifications for specific users.

I don't receive Instagram* notifications on Android and iPhone - how do I turn them on?
One of the common problems for Instagram* users is the lack of notifications about various events in the Android or iPhone app. Solving the problem, in most cases, is not at all difficult. Attention: before changing the settings described below, make sure that your phone does not have battery saving mode enabled: this may be the reason that notifications do not receive.
This manual details how to turn on Instagram* notifications on your phone if they do not come for one reason or another or, for example, come but without sound. First - about how to solve the problem on Android, then - the same about the iPhone.

How to enable Instagram* notifications on Android
If Instagram* notifications are not received on Android, this may be the result of the corresponding settings both in the application itself and in the phone OS. The steps to find out the cause will generally be as follows (for different models of Android smartphones, the path starting from the 4th step may be slightly different, but the logic is the same):
- Open your profile in the Instagram app* (bottom right icon), tap the menu button, then tap Settings.
- Go to the settings section "Notifications" - "Push notifications".
- Make sure the desired notifications are turned on. If not, turn them on.
- If all notifications are turned on in Instagram* settings, go to Android settings and open the "Notifications" section.
- This section may look slightly different depending on the phone: for example, on Samsung Galaxy you will see the Do Not Disturb item (which should be disabled if we need notifications), but on all smartphones this section will have a list of applications that we and needed.
- Find the Instagram* app in the list and make sure notifications are enabled for it. Please note that on some versions of Android and branded shells there is just an on-off switch for application notifications, as well as additional notification settings that open when you click on the application name: make sure that everything is in order there.
Also, if there are notifications in the notification area, but there is no sound, check that you do not have Do Not Disturb turned on, and that the notifications themselves are set to the desired, not quiet or silent mode (see How to set different notification sounds for different Android apps).
Usually, these steps are enough to get notifications working again. Just in case, if everything is turned on, but Instagram* notifications are still not coming, try simply restarting your phone, and if that doesn’t help, uninstall and reinstall the application (provided you remember your password). Just in case, check if traffic saving is enabled, if it is enabled, disable it. Read more: How to disable data saving on Android and Samsung Galaxy.
What to do if you don't receive Instagram* notifications on iPhone
In case you are using an iPhone and also faced with the lack of event notifications in the Instagram* application, the solution method will be approximately the same as in the previous case:
- Try a simple restart of your iPhone first, this often works in this particular case (hold the power button, turn the iPhone off, then turn it back on). If this does not help, continue to the next steps.
- Go to the Instagram* app on your iPhone, tap your profile icon (lower right), then the menu button at the top right, and tap Settings.
- Go to the "Notifications" section.
- Make sure that notifications are turned on for the items you need, and the Pause All option is turned off.
- If your app has all notifications turned on, go to your iPhone settings and make sure Do Not Disturb is not turned on.
And now the most important thing: if the previous points did not help, then you will have to use this method (since there is no Instagram* application in Settings - Notifications):
- Delete Instagram* from iPhone (make sure you remember your password to re-login).
- Reinstall the app from the App Store.
- Immediately after the first login, Instagram* will show a request to show notifications, answer "Ok".
As a rule, after this, notifications begin to arrive regularly in the same way as notifications from other applications do. As in the previous case, keep in mind that you should not enable data saving to receive notifications, more details: How to turn off data saving on iPhone.
