If you’re part of the 500+ million daily Instagram Story users who’ve been riding that train since August 2016, you probably love the self-contained fun of the feature. Between AR filters, real-time content curation, and the option to bling out your photos with stickers and copy, you could spend hours spiraling down the rabbit hole of Instagram Live Story content. In March 2020, Instagram confirmed to Bustle that it's also seeing a "significant" uptick in Instagram Live engagement. But what happens if you miss your favorite influencer or blogger's live video that you’ve been hoping to see? Can you re-watch someone else’s Instagram Live video? Don’t fret — Instagram has heard your prayers, and they've answered.

Thanks to the Instagram Live replay feature, a user’s best moments don’t have to be one-hit-wonders and can live on for their followers to watch again. Users can share Instagram Live videos to their Stories so that viewers can re-watch them for up to 24 hours after they originally aired, or they can share them to IGTV or pin them to their Highlights. But should the creator choose not to share the Instagram Live video, the content will disappear when the Live video ends. (They’ll always have it, however, because the Live video is automatically saved in their Instagram Live Archive.) Ahead, everything you need to know about rewatching another user’s Instagram Live videos.

How To Rewatch A User’s Instagram Live Video

If you’ve been wanting to see that clothing haul from your favorite influencer and somehow you missed their Instagram Live, chances are you’re going to be pretty upset. Not to worry, there are still ways you can potentially catch up with their Live. An important FYI, however: These techniques will only work if the user chooses to reshare their Live.

1. Go To Their Instagram Story

First things first: Because a user has the option to share Live moments on their Stories for up to 24 hours after filming — the standard shelf life of a normal Insta Story — you have the chance to catch it there. Pop on over to the user’s profile and check out their Instagram story. If you see a colorful ring around their profile picture, chances are it could be the Instagram Live video from earlier. Tap the play button to rewatch the original Instagram Live video and browse through its comments and likes. The feature also includes backtrack and fast-forward functions (up to 15 seconds) as well as an option to reply.

If you’re the creator trying to share your Live, when you’re done with your video simply toggle over to the "share" button at the bottom of the screen to add the replay option. (Not interested in chronicling your masterpiece? Toggle over to "Discard" to let the Story expire as usual — you can also save the Instagram Live story to your camera roll for your own future enjoyment by tapping Download Video, but FYI, comments, likes, and viewers don’t get saved. )

2. Watch On IGTV

Another great option if you missed a user’s Instagram Live video is to check out their IGTV feed. In 2020, Instagram released a feature that allows you to share your Instagram Live Videos to your IGTV. Instead of just sharing the Instagram Live as an Instagram Story, the user can also immediately add it to their IGTV feed for a more permanent option. Although the video will be available, comments and likes that appeared during the live video will not appear.

3. Check Out Their Instagram Highlights

Just like a user can pin an Instagram Story to their highlights in their bio, users can also pin an Instagram Live Video. This can be done if a user chooses to reshare their Live on their Instagram Story. If they do this, the same steps apply as though they are sharing a regular Instagram Story: Tap the + sign next to the Instagram Highlights, and choose the reshared Instagram Live to add to the highlights. Make sure to double-check Instagram Highlights, because there’s a decent chance that the Instagram Live you missed could be hiding there.

Finding Live Videos on Instagram — Here's How

Instagram, like all social media platforms, evolves. The latest major update happened in October 2021 which was the removal of IGTV.

Prior to this, users could search the hashtag #IGTV and view all live videos on Instagram.

Now, Instagram live videos are part of the “stories” feature.

Live video replays are only available for 24 hours, then they are added to the user’s “video archive”.

Whether they are republished as a video or deleted is entirely at the content creators’ discretion.

With that in mind, here is…

How to find live videos on Instagram

1. Search the video tab on individual accounts to see if they publish live videos
2. Follow the account of the person you want to see presenting a live video so that you get a notification when they next go live.
3. Tap the notification telling you that they are “live” when they go live.

Step 1. Find and follow the Instagrammer you want to see live videos from

Since IGTV was ditched, you cannot binge on random live Instagram streams or replays of broadcasts on Instagram.

What you can do instead is view the video archives on an Instagram account that has shared a recording.

To view these, you need to find the account you are interested in following.

There are 4 ways to search on Instagram

  1. By people
  2. By audio
  3. By tags (hashtags)
  4. By location

In the app, these are shown in the top navigation menu below the search bar.

To find accounts for live videos, search by people/account.

Once on the profile page that you are interested in following, you can get a sample of the types of content frequently shared.

To understand it, you need to know what the icons mean.

For videos, there are two symbols

The first is reels and this shows the video symbol with a film reel above it.
The second is the video play arrow.

Instagram reels are short videos up to 90-seconds.

Instagram videos are longer. 10-minutes in most cases.

Verified accounts can have video durations extended to 60-minutes.

Instagram video is a combination of the now-defunct IGTV (long-form video) and in-feed video posts. All videos are shown in collections in an “Instagram Video” category.

These symbols show in the feed of the accounts that you are viewing.

Whilst you can no longer find “live” videos that were displayed with the lightning bolt to show it was an Instagram Live video, you can find longer videos by looking for the single play arrow icon.

Not the one with the reel, which is for shorter-length video clips.

The square icons are image-only posts.

You can search by any other method, but considering it is people who go live, using the people search function is the fastest way to find live broadcast replays.

As an example using the tag search option to search for #productivity involved a lot of scrolling until finally, a video appeared.

When you see that, you can then click into the profile and search through the videos tab for that user’s account.

Searching for people first can save time from endless scrolling until you find some videos.

Step 2: Follow the accounts that do live videos

Once you have found an account (or more) that does post live videos, you need to follow the account to be notified when the user next goes live.

This is simpler if you are lucky enough to find a video that shows that the person “was live”. Then you definitely know they do live broadcasts.

Not all of them will be available to view.

Remember, live videos are only saved for 24-hours. Unless the creator publishes the archive footage, the video will not be available to view.

The only way to find out is to click on the video.

If it loads, voila. If not, you will see the video load with the duration of 0:00. This just means the video is converted to a cover only with the live video no longer available to watch.

Once you know the account does do live video, click the follow button.

When any account you follow goes live, you will get a notification on your phone that * person is live now then you can tap to instantly join the live stream.

If you are already in the app, any account that is live is shown prominently with the usual colorful ring but with the addition of the luminous pink badge saying “LIVE”.

Step 3: Tap to view the Livestream

The last stage is a waiting game because there is no telling when someone will be live, unless they have a schedule.

Like Live Tuesday Q & A’s or something. Then you know to expect a live broadcast on a Tuesday. Or Mindful Monday. Different topics have different themed events.

Whenever anyone you “follow” goes live, a notification is sent through the app.

You need to have push notifications enabled to be notified. Otherwise, you need to be logged into the app to see when someone is live.

Remember that not all live broadcasts are recorded and replayed. Those who do choose to share a live broadcast replay will have the recording discoverable in the video tab on their profile.

The video tab on any user’s account allows you to find shared live broadcast replays.

The difference between Instagram Videos and Reels

As you navigate through each user’s profile pages on Instagram, you will notice the video icons on both the Reels view and the Videos view. They are different.

Instagram Reels are for super short video clips or photo collage posts. Everything on Instagram is visual. Photos and videos.

Going into 2022, Instagram made a push to focus heavily on video format rather than image sharing. When IGTV was scrapped, part of the announcement mentioned that the platforms’ competitors are TikTok and YouTube.

As a method to strengthen their position, they split videos into long-form and short-form.

  • Reels are short videos.
  • Instagram Videos are all longer in length.

Every account has a Video tab and a Reels tab. Tap the video tab to view all videos longer than 90-seconds. Live broadcasts will be. Generally, the first couple of minutes is spent waiting for people to join.

Reels are light entertainment videos, similar to those published on TikTok.

Instagram Videos are a category covering live broadcast replays, video interviews, and more focused content that delves deeper into a topic, such as explainer videos, debates on current events or whatever a creator feels needs to have more airtime than a Reel would provide.

For that reason, if what you want is more live videos for increased interaction on Instagram, find and follow the accounts that do this type of content frequently.

And follow them!

If you do not follow the person, you will not find out when they go live.

The video tab in each profile is where to find replays of live video broadcasts, but only if the creator has shared the replay from their Instagram Live Archive.

Not everyone does, and even if they do, if they were not too satisfied with how a live video went, they may choose not to post the archive footage.

The only way to find recordings of live videos on Instagram is to search through the video tab on each account that catches your interest.

how to open a temporary photo in messages

With the appearance of disappearing files in personal correspondence, it's worth figuring out how to watch the video on Instagram in Direct again. For three years now, the messenger has been able to send photos and videos that disappear after reading.

However, some of the people registered there have only now become aware of this possibility and would like to understand it thoroughly.

Content

  1. What are disappearing messages
  2. Sending a photo or video
  3. Viewing sent messages
  4. Conversation statuses and how they can change
  5. Is it possible to view temporary pictures or videos again
  6. How to make the letter available to the user for repeated viewing
  7. Video review:

What are disappearing messages

Now you can send files of any kind to Instagram Direct, be it audio, video or photos. You can also send photos or videos that will disappear after playback to another person. At that moment, when you view the sent file, an indicator is displayed on top. It shows how much time is left before the moment when the photo is deleted. The duration of the image display is approximately 8 seconds.

The extension was added to Instagram back in 2016. It can be found in every version of the messenger, starting from 10.16 on Android and IOS systems. The section with personal messages has been updated. Later added the ability to record voice files. You can create disappearing photo or video files as one person, or several at once.

Posting a photo or video

So how do you post a disappearing photo on Instagram? Here's a little tutorial that talks about sending temporary emails to another person:

  • Open the shooting tab (small house icon on the bottom panel and swipe to the right). You can swipe right anywhere in the news feed.
  • Next, take any photo or video. The frame is made by clicking on the transparent circle at the bottom of the screen. In order to shoot a video, you need to hold down this button. Additionally, you can add any effects to the picture.
  • Click on the white circled arrow icon. It can be at the bottom of the screen or at the top. Its location depends on the version of the messenger and your device.
  • Choose an individual user or a whole group of people for whom this photo is intended. If you select people individually, each of them will receive your video files in their Direct. If you have selected a whole group, then a general correspondence is created, where you will send the finished frame. To create a new group, you need to click on the "New group" option located in the upper right corner of the device. After that, you must select certain people who will receive the letter. After the people are selected, click "Create".
  • Click Submit. This button is located at the bottom of the screen.

Now you know how to send a temporary photo to Instagram.

View sent messages

If you sent users temporary videos, you yourself will no longer be able to see them. However, you will receive all notifications about the departure, delivery, and receipt of the photo by the other party. You will also receive a notification that another participant in the conversation took a screenshot of your photo.

When a photo has been sent, the conversation will be circled and will move to the top of your inbox. If the picture was sent to you, then before you open the photo on Instagram in messages, you can see that it will disappear after opening.

When you send private messages to one recipient, at the very bottom of your dialog you can see information about the status of the letter. It may indicate an additional playback or a screenshot of the screen by another person.

Delivered emails will show a white checkmark. After reading, it will change its color to gray. If the correspondence is group, then you can see the status of the correspondence for each member of the group. To do this, click on the group, hold it. A small menu will open where you need to select "View Activities". It will show the status of the sent picture for each person in the group.

Please note! You can check the status of a message you sent only until the other participant in the conversation has sent his video. In this case, you will no longer be able to track the status in the group.

Is it possible to view temporary pictures or videos again? It is indicated by a small paper airplane icon.

  • In Inbox, press and hold on the files you would like to review.
  • A window will appear in which you need to select "View again".
  • Under "View again" there will be another "Delete message" function. By clicking on it, you will permanently remove the letter from your inbox. The "Clear Chat History" feature may also open. By clicking on it, you will completely delete all your dialogue with the other person.
  • Please note! You have the option to view additional temporary snapshots only after they have been received. If you close your personal dialogue with the user, the email will disappear forever. The next time the temporary videos are viewed, the sender will be notified.

However, these are not all the secrets of how to re-watch videos in Direct Instagram. Review must also be specified by the sender. Before sending a message, the sender can specify that it should be played in a loop for additional viewing.

You have the option to respond to temporary photos, or you can send them in yourself. Also, a new feature has been added to Instagram that allows you to start online chats with other users.

Saving disappearing pictures on Instagram will not work using standard methods. This is due to the fact that the picture will be deleted immediately after reading. However, there are special tricks that allow you to save the frame or at least take a screenshot. It is worth remembering that the sender will immediately find out about any manipulations with the image.

Also read: You look like Instagram – appearance says a lot, instructions for use

For extra playback, the user can set special settings. You can select them at the bottom of the page. The "Single View" feature prevents the message from being played again. The Allow Replay feature allows the recipient to watch the video or photo again. However, after the second playback, the frames or video will be permanently deleted.

Now you have learned how to re-view photos in Instagram Direct. However, it is worth remembering that not every video file is available for re-viewing. Also, the user will immediately know that you tried to save his photo by any means. Second video playback is possible only until you close the conversation. And also from the moment of sending the video should not take a lot of time. Otherwise, the message will be permanently deleted and you will no longer be able to view it.

At the same time, senders cannot independently view temporary files sent by them. However, all statuses, replays, as well as screenshot data will be displayed in front of them. Therefore, you should act wisely.
