Or you met a person at a business meeting and want to “add a contact”, but did not take his business card. If you have experienced similar situations related to Telegram, but you are not very friendly with the messenger itself, this instruction is for you.

I analyze 5 ways to find a channel and the same number of ways to find a person in Telegram.

A bit about "telegram" terms.

A channel and a Telegram group are two different things. Channel is like a blog. And group is like a chat. In this collection, I’m talking only about channels.

Username . For a person, this is what comes after @ (also called a username) - @kaktus. For a channel, this is what comes after t.me (also called a link) - t.me/kaktus. The username is unique, two identical ones cannot be found in Telegram.

Title/name. This is what we see in the contact line when we read a channel or communicate with a person. The channel in my example may have the following name - ‎ "Cactus Life" . And a person has such a name - "Katerina Tusova." The title/name is not unique, there can be several of them in Telegram.

Username and name/name of the same channel or person do not always match.

How to find the Telegram channel

1. Through the search in Telegram

Standard search is a box with the word "search" or a magnifying glass at the top of the screen. The method works both on the phone and on the computer.

How to find a person in Telegram

1. By phone number

The easiest way. But in order to use it, you must first save the phone number.

Pros:

  • Search is easy.
  • You can search both from your phone and from your computer.

Cons :

  • Suitable only if you know the number and it is not hidden from the person.
  • If you make a mistake in at least one digit, you won't be able to find it by number.

How to use:

Enter the phone book and write down the number. If the person is on Telegram, this will be displayed in the contact information.

Or open Telegram on your phone, and then choose:

  • Click on the three horizontal lines at the top of the screen, go to contacts and, by clicking on the plus icon, write down the person you need.

2. By username in Telegram

Username is the same unique name that starts with @. If you know him, you have almost found the person.

Pros:

  • It's very easy to find a person if you know their exact username.
  • The request can be entered both in Russian and in transliteration - the results will be the same.

Cons :

  • Accuracy is important in the method - if you make a mistake on a character, the search will not give results.
  • Suitable only if the person filled in the "Username" line and did not hide it.

How to use - three options:

  • Drive a username into the Telegram search engine - with or without @, it does not matter.

3. By first name/surname in Telegram

Finally, a few less popular ways:
