How to remove timeline facebook

How to Quickly Delete Old Facebook Posts

Facebook is all too keen to remind you of the past. Remember that concert you went to three years ago? That person you friended nine years ago? That photo you snapped on vacation last decade? No worries; Facebook will make sure you never forget.

But now more than ever, it's important to curate what pops up on your social media feeds, lest a potential employer or date stumble upon an ill-advised photo, comment, or like.

If you're sick of cringing every time you log into Facebook, it might be time to rid your account of aging memes and reminders of your 2008-era frosted tips phase. You don't have to nuke your entire account, though. Here's a more civilized solution for social media cleanup.

Review Your Facebook Profile

First, it may be informative to see what your profile looks like to people who aren't on your friends list. Go to your Facebook profile, open the three-dot menu next to the Edit Profile button (Add to Story on mobile), and click the View As "eye" icon. This will display your profile as it looks to the general public, by displaying everything on your profile that is set to Public.

Delete Facebook Posts

Facebook makes it easy to delete your old posts with the Activity Log. Go to your profile, click the three-dot menu, and select Activity Log. This will show you every action you, or another user, has taken on your Timeline, including reactions, shares, comments, tags, and posts. The results can be filtered by date or a specific person.

On desktop, you can scroll through all your past actions on Facebook, or choose a category under the Activity Types header to view your posts, tags, or interactions. Click the Timeline, Photo and Tag Review drop-down to filter specific tags. Mobile users must select nested categories to view posts, tags, interactions, and more specific actions.

When you come across something you want to remove, select the three-dot menu to delete, hide, or archive; unlike a comment; or remove tag. If you wish to remove multiple posts at a time, tick the box next to the actions, then select Archive or Trash on the top right.

Hide Facebook Posts

It's possible to limit the visibility of old photos and posts by making them private instead of deleting them entirely. From your Timeline, click the ellipsis next to the post you want to hide, select Edit Audience (Edit Privacy on mobile), then select who should have permission to view the post. Choose Only me to hide it from everyone else. To only hide the post from certain people, select Friends except... or Specific friends... to include or exclude certain friends.

Facebook also has a tool to hide public Timeline posts en masse. To do this, click the arrow in the top-right corner of your profile and navigate to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Privacy. Click the Limit Past Posts link to open a warning advising that all your public posts will be converted to Friends only. If that's okay, click the Limit Past Posts button and your public posts will only be visible to those on your friends list.

On mobile, tap the hamburger icon and select Settings & Privacy > Settings > Privacy Settings > Limit who can see past posts. Here, you can also edit how future posts will appear.

Download Your Facebook Data

Don't want to lose your Facebook information forever? You can download a copy of your entire Facebook Timeline by navigating to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Your Facebook Information. Select the View link next to Download Your Information.

Choose what should and should not be included in the download, then click Create Files to download your Facebook information to your computer. Once a file is created, it can always be redownloaded from the Available Copies tab.

Remove Facebook Timeline ( Disable / Deactivate / Get Rid of / Turn it Off )

Overview of How to Remove / Disable Facebook Timeline

If you hate Facebook Timeline and want to change back to viewing the old style, single column layout format for "Fan"/"Like" Pages, this guide is for you.

Guide to Disabling Facebook Timeline in Your Web Browser

The method for viewing Timeline pages in an easier to read single column layout format, for the following web browsers : Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Maxthon is listed below : ( If you are using Internet Explorer, i strongly suggest you install one of the previously listed browsers, as this method is not compatible with IE. )
  1. First, install the F.B. Purity browser extension, as it adds a function for disabling Facebook Timeline in your browser.
  2. After F.B. Purity is installed, when you visit Facebook you will see an "FBP" link at the top of the page, next to the search box, and when you visit "fan" aka "like" pages, next to that you will see a green "TL" button that looks like this:

Click the green "TL" icon in your browser and F.B. Purity will disable Timeline for you.
  3. Now visit any Fan/Like Page's Timeline, and you will see them displayed in a single column layout format, similar to the old style Like/Fan Pages.
  4. If at any time, you wish to view Timeline pages again in the usual 2 column layout, just click the "TL" icon with the red cross through it at the top right of your browser window, and Timeline will be restored.
  5. Please click the "Share" button below, to share this page with all your friends, that way they will also be able to use this solution to disable Timeline in their browsers, so they too can see all Timeline pages in the old style format:

*IMPORTANT UPDATE* Facebook have redesigned the Timeline pages layout, to have the main news stories in a single column, so I have removed the green "TL" button from the top Nav Bar as its no longer required.

N.B. There is no way to completely remove Timeline from your Facebook account, you can only "re-style" it to display differently in your own browser, as this is a browser extension based solution.

I hope this helps you,

Cheers,

Steve

How to hide your timeline on Facebook

The Facebook timeline is an interesting feature added by Facebook that has completely changed the way we view information on our Facebook profiles. This might be a nice feature and a lot of people really like it, but it's a forced feature, probably a core feature of Facebook, without any requests or permissions.

Even if the number is small, there are people who prefer the old and simple interface ever since. If you're one of the rebels who still wants to get rid of the Facebook Graph, then you'll have to opt for third-party options (more on that soon). Facebook just doesn't offer any way to get rid of it, and in fact, even third-party tools can't help. nine0003

However, we can still help you find a way to make the Facebook timeline disappear and you are using the old friendly interface. These third party tools will only change your appearance, so you can at least satisfy yourself even if others still see the same timeline on your profile.

Tool #1: Timeline Remover

If you just want to get rid of it and don't want to confuse yourself with different processes, then the Timeline Remover extension will be the best for you. This will just disable the timeline feature for your account and you can just view your profile or other users' profile the old fashioned way. nine0003

However, other people will still be able to see your graph profile. Just go to the website and download and install Timeline Remover for your specific browser. They currently support Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari.

Your browser may warn you not to download this extension, but this is only because this extension is not included in your browser's Official Store. Once installed and enabled, all you need to do is refresh your profile page and the timeline will be gone. If you want to get it back, you will have to disable/remove the extension. nine0003

Tool #2: Social Fix

Social Fixer is actually a fixer for Facebook that is supposed to get rid of things that Facebook users don't like. It comes with a lot of options to customize and make Facebook easier to use. You can customize how you see information as well as how you interact with it.

This means it will also solve the schedule issue that most people always complain about. However, the fix it provides isn't really as easy on the eyes as what Timeline Remover can do, but it's customizable. nine0003

Download and install the extension as we did above and open your Facebook account. Social Fixer will recommend you adjust some handy options, if you don't want to change anything, discard all changes.

You will see a new wrench icon located in the top right of the window. Click on it and select "Edit Social Fixer Settings" from the menu. You will now see all the options that you can tweak, if you want to tweak any setting, do so without any worries (they are reversible). However, in this article, we only want to get rid of the timeline, so click "Timeline" in the left pane. nine0003

You will see all the options you can use to hide the contents of the timeline. Check all options and then click "Save" to save all changes. The changes will be applied when you refresh the page.

Troubleshooting Guide: How to (re)enable the Facebook Timeline

When Facebook introduced Timeline last year, initial reactions were mixed. Many people who tried it quickly wanted to get rid of it again. The trouble is, once you've turned, there's no going back. So far, some smart programmers haven't come up with tools that would let you browse Facebook without a timeline. Now the situation is changing, and many people are turning to us for advice on how to get their timeline back.

If you're one of those who wants to switch to Timeline view right now, this troubleshooting guide is for you. Together we'll find out if you enabled the timeline in the first place, or what exactly you did to get rid of it, and how you can undo it. And if none of the tips work, you can always ask for help in the comments. nine0003

By the way, if you're looking for a way to do the opposite, i.e. remove the timeline, just use your smartest brain cells and reverse engineer this tutorial to disable the Facebook timeline.

How can I get a schedule?

Let's see if you have a Timeline first. Sign in to your Facebook account and then visit the Presented Timeline website. At the bottom of the site, you should see a navigation bar. In the very right corner of this panel there is a button labeled Get Timeline . Click it, then click your own name anywhere on Facebook, or go to facebook.com/your-user-name (your Facebook wall) to see if you can now see your profile in the timeline view.

Or log in to Facebook, click on the small button at the bottom in the upper right corner next to house and select Enable timeline.

Notice that your Facebook wall (where you see the timeline) is different from your Facebook News Feed, which is what you see when you go to Facebook. com while you're logged in! To see your wall and hopefully a graph, click on your name in the top left corner of your Facebook News Feed. nine0003

Problem: Facebook says I already have a timeline but I can't see it!

If you can't click the Get Timeline button, you already have a timeline. This is the case for me as shown in the screenshot below.

If you can't see your timeline even though Facebook says you've already updated your profile to the timeline, try to find out how you turned it off.

How did you disable the schedule? nine0009

So Facebook says you already have a timeline, but you can't see it. Unless something is horribly broken, there is essentially only one way to disable the timeline, which is using a browser add-on. So let's see if this is the case for you.

To check if this is a browser add-on, sign in to Facebook using a browser you don't normally use. For example, if you usually access Facebook using Firefox, use Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Safari instead. If you see the timeline in another browser, you most likely used the Facebook Standard Browser add-on to disable the timeline. Go to Solutions. nine0003

If you can't see the Timeline in any of your installed browsers, something else is most likely going on. Try logging into Facebook from a friend's computer who can see the timeline on their Facebook wall. If you still can't see your timeline, you probably installed the Facebook timeline removal app.

If you can see your timeline on another computer but not on your own, no matter what browser you're using, I'm stumped. To my knowledge, there is no application that removes the timeline for your entire computer. However, you can try to check all browsers, maybe you have installed Timeline Remove add-ons for all of them. nine0003

Solutions: Managing Browser Add-ons

If you figured out in the previous step that you most likely disabled your Timeline using a browser add-on, re-enabling your Timeline is as easy as disabling or uninstalling the related add-on. Below are instructions for different browsers and add-ons.

Timeline Delete

This is the most popular browser add-on used to disable the Facebook timeline. You don't actually need to remove it to re-enable your timeline. Instead, you can toggle between enabling and disabling the timeline. When this add-on is installed in Chrome and possibly other browsers, you should see a "white on blue" button in the list of enabled extensions to the right of the Omni/Search bar. Just click this button and select a status to enable or disable timeline removal. nine0003

Although TimeLine Remove does not work with the latest version of Firefox, it does work with Chrome and is also available for Internet Explorer (not tested) and Safari (not tested).

FB Purity

This browser plugin is available for Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera. It allows you to customize Facebook in a number of ways, and one feature includes removing the timeline. If it is installed, you can enable or disable the timeline by clicking the TL (green letters with or without a red X) next to the Facebook search bar. Alternatively, you can also completely disable or remove the browser add-on. nine0003

Dirty Monkey

Greasemonkey is a browser add-on that allows you to customize the look of websites, including Facebook. If you have installed a Greasemonkey script to customize the look and feel of Facebook, you can undo these changes by deleting the corresponding script. Please see instructions for managing your custom Greasemonkey scripts here.

Fake user agent that makes Facebook think you are using Internet Explorer 7

You may have used a more or less manual trick to disable the Facebook timeline, which is not available in Internet Explorer 7. This trick is detailed in Techie Buzz. Simply undo your browser actions to undo the changes.

Internet Explorer 8 and 9

  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • Click the Tools button and select Manage add-ons .
  • Select add-on type Toolbars and Extensions .
  • Find the add-on that disables your timeline, right-click it and choose Disable or Uninstall .
  • Close Manage Add-ons , restart Internet Explorer and enjoy your timeline.

Fire Fox

  • Open Firefox.
  • Click the Firefox button in the top left corner and select addition in the menu.
  • Make sure extensions are selected in the left sidebar of the Add-ons tab.
  • Scroll through the list of extensions and disable or remove the add-on that disables your timeline.
  • Click on the Restart Now link that will appear and then enjoy your timeline.
