How to pause account on instagram

How to deactivate your Instagram account or delete it for good

When it comes to social media, Instagram is the ultimate virtual connector. With stunning visuals and increasingly useful features, Instagram is easily one of the top social media platforms in the world. But, like all good things, there are times when it must come to an end.

Whether you need a short social media detox or you’re looking to go off the grid forever, this guide will teach you everything you need to know about deactivating your account before you delete Instagram permanently.

Deactivate your Instagram account

Because deleting your Instagram account is permanent and final, Instagram recommends temporarily disabling your account first. If you do that, you can still recover the account and all of your content.

How to deactivate your Instagram account

Deactivating your IG account is an easy way to either take a break from social media or decide if you really want to delete your Instagram account altogether.

Temporarily deactivating your account is a straightforward process. However, you can’t do it within the Instagram app. You have to log in to your account on your desktop browser, so make sure you have all of your correct log-in information on hand.

Here’s how to deactivate your Instagram for now:

  1. Open your desktop browser.
  2. Go to Instagram.
  3. Log in to your account.
  4. Click on your profile picture at the top-right corner of the page.
  5. Select Edit Profile.
  6. Scroll down and click Temporarily Disable My Account at the bottom-right corner of the page.
  7. Select an option when asked why you are disabling your account.
  8. Re-enter your password.
  9. Click Temporarily Disable My Account.

Remember: following these instructions will hide all of your content from your followers. No one will be able to see your account until you reactivate it by logging back in.

For how long can you disable your Instagram?

You can keep your account temporarily disabled for as long as you like. You can reactivate it at any time by logging back in. However, there is one restriction.

Instagram currently only allows you to disable your account once per week. So if you disable it, log back on, and then decide you want to disable it again, you’ll have to wait a week to do so.

Do you lose followers when you disable your Instagram account?

No. Because Instagram stores all of your account data when you temporarily disable your account, it will restore it to the state as it was in when you deleted it.

Also, your account will disappear everywhere on the platform when you disable it — including other accounts’ lists of followers. In other words, people won’t be able to unfollow you while your account is hidden because they won’t be able to find you or see your account.

Delete your Instagram account

If you’ve already tried temporarily disabling your Instagram account (or just deleting the app from your phone) but want to take more drastic measures, doing so is relatively simple. Just remember that deleting your account is permanent and can’t be reversed.

To delete your account, you need to have your correct log-in information ready.

How to delete your Instagram account on iPhone

At the time of this writing, you can’t delete your Instagram account from within the Instagram app. You can, however, delete your account on your iPhone through your mobile browser.

Here’s how:

  1. Open your mobile browser.
  2. Go to Instagram’s Delete Your Account page.
  3. If you’re not logged in, follow the prompt to log in to your account.
  4. Select an option when asked why you are disabling your account.
  5. Re-enter your password.
  6. Press Permanently Delete My Account.

How to delete your Instagram account on desktop

Luckily, deleting your Instagram account on your desktop is just as simple. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open your desktop browser.
  2. Go to Instagram’s Delete Your Account page.
  3. If you’re not logged in, follow the prompt to log in to your account.
  4. Select an option when asked why you are disabling your account.
  5. Re-enter your password.
  6. Press Permanently Delete My Account.

How to remove an Instagram account from the app

If you don’t want to disable or delete your Instagram account, you can always remove it from the app. However, if you want to continue using the Instagram app, you’ll have to add a different Instagram account or create a new one.

Here’s how to remove an account from the Instagram app:

  1. Open the Instagram app.
  2. Press the icon of your profile picture in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  3. Press the downward-facing arrow next to your username at the top-center of the screen.
  4. Press the three horizontal lines at the top-right corner of the screen.
  5. Press Settings > Log Out.

This method will work if you’re only logged in to one Instagram account. If you manage multiple accounts, removing one of them is a little trickier due to Instagram’s Single Login For Multiple Instagram Accounts feature. Luckily, we found a way around it.

Here’s how to remove an account from the Instagram app if you’re logged in to multiple accounts:

  1. Press and hold the Instagram app on your iPhone.
  2. Select Delete App.
  3. Wait a few moments and then open the App Store.
  4. Search for Instagram.
  5. Download Instagram.
  6. Open the Instagram app.
  7. Select the account you want to remove.
  8. Press Remove.

Doing this will essentially reset all of your information and log you out of all of the accounts you were logged into. When you reinstall the app, you can simply log in using the accounts you wish to keep on the app and remove the ones you no longer want to use.

What happens when you delete or deactivate your Instagram?

If you’re considering getting rid of your Instagram account, you first have a choice to make: Do you want to deactivate your account or delete it altogether?

When you deactivate your Instagram account

Deactivating your Instagram account is much different than deleting it.   When you deactivate an Instagram account, you are only temporarily disabling it. All your photos, comments, likes, and even your profile will be hidden from the public and your followers, but they’re not gone forever. Your account will remain hidden until you decide to reactivate it.

When you delete your Instagram account

Deleting your Instagram account, on the other hand, is much more permanent.

When your account is deleted, your entire Instagram history is removed forever. That means all of your photos, videos, Story archives, messages, likes, and followers will be permanently removed. You cannot get them back. It will be as if your account never existed.

Only you can delete your Instagram account; for security reasons, Instagram can’t do it for you. Also, it’s important to note that Instagram is unable to reactivate a deleted account, so it’s wise to be 100% sure that you want your account removed before doing so.

If you do go through with deleting your account and decide later that you want to return to Instagram, you can. However, you can’t reactivate your old account — and you can’t sign up for a new account with the same old username.

Instagram is a great app, but it’s not for everyone. Whether you just want to take a break from the feed or to escape from social media altogether, we hope this guide made removing your Instagram account a little easier. And if you need to know how to delete an Instagram post, we’ve covered that as well.

Looking to take a break from Instagram? Whether you’re trying to ditch your account for the sake of your mental health, to avoid the app’s inevitable role in Mark Zuckerberg's metaverse (they’ve already tried stealing the @metaverse handle from an Australian artist), or because it's transforming into a TikTok clone lately, it’s no problem at all — deactivating your account is easy.

If you don’t want to delete your account outright, deactivating your account temporarily might help curb your Instagram scrolling habits or give you time to make that final deletion decision.

What does deactivating your account really do?

Deactivating your account essentially hides your profile from the rest of the world. Your account will look like it doesn’t exist, your photos won’t show up in others’ liked posts or tagged photos lists, and no one will be able to send you a message on the platform. There’s no sign that says your profile has been deactivated temporarily — it’ll just disappear.

Your account will reactivate if you log in as normal. Obviously, this isn’t the biggest hurdle to overcome if you’re having issues spending too much time on Instagram, but it's one step keeping you off the platform.

You can keep your account deactivated as long as you’d like — your account will be right where you left it if you log in after a week, three months, or a year. The only restriction Instagram has for this feature is that you can only deactivate your account once a week. There’s no explanation as to why this restriction is there.

How to deactivate your Instagram account

While some social media apps are notorious for hiding deactivation or deletion options, deactivating your Instagram account is very simple.

Right now, you can only deactivate your account while logged in on a desktop or a mobile browser. There’s no way to deactivate your account on the mobile app. I’m going to deactivate my account on a desktop, but the steps are the same on mobile.

Logging into Instagram on a web browser, you can deactivate your account with just a few clicks.

  • On any browser, navigate to Instagram and sign in to your account.
  • From either your profile or your feed, click on your profile photo in the upper right-hand corner of your screen and select “Settings” from the drop-down menu.
  • This will take you to your “Edit Profile” tab where you can change your username, bio, and personal details. On this page, scroll down to the very bottom and click the hyperlink that reads “Temporarily disable my account.”
  • On the next page, select a reason for deactivating your account from the drop-down menu (it doesn’t matter which choice you pick) and reenter your password in the box below.
  • Click the “Temporarily Disable Account” button at the bottom of this page.
  • Instagram will confirm that you want to deactivate your account. Click the “Yes” button.
  • You will be immediately signed out of your account on all of your devices and booted back to the Instagram homepage. Your account is now hidden to all!
How to reactivate your Instagram account

Whenever you decide to jump back into your Instagram account — whether you’re returning to post vacation photos and rejoin that platform or just logging back in to delete your account for good — reactivating your account is as simple as logging in. To reactivate your account, you can log in on a desktop, a mobile browser, or the mobile app.

step by step instructions - Social networks on vc.ru

Blocking an Instagram account is not uncommon nowadays, it can be encountered quite by accident, even if you have not violated anything.

There can be a lot of reasons for blocking, ranging from an unfortunate set of circumstances to malicious violations of the rules of the user agreement of the social network.

In this article, we will not go into details of the reasons for blocking, but we will understand its types and learn step by step how to restore a blocked account.

Contents

  • Interlock types
  • Step-by-step instructions for repair
  • Personal experience

Interlock types

1. Blocking for suspicious activity.

A typical variant of a permanent block, which is issued by the Instagram algorithm when the likes, subscribers and other indicators are too actively cheated on your account, as well as when recommendations are not followed when automating the process of placing likes, subscriptions and other things to other users of the social network.

There were cases when commercial accounts were blocked for too frequent correspondence with users in Direct, most likely suspecting them of some kind of automation.

2. For content complaints from users.

Issued sometimes by a person, sometimes by the Instagram algorithm. This is usually the result of regular complaints from users about the regular publication of inappropriate materials or about the account as a whole. In the first case, the Instagram algorithm will more often than not simply remove the invalid image with a notification. In the second case, if the decision is made by an Instagram employee regarding the account as a whole, then it will be a complete blocking of it, and not individual publications.

3. For copyright infringement.

The heaviest type of blocking. Instagram is the most fiercely protective of legal entities and objects of copyright. If individuals or legal entities repeatedly report violations of their copyrights, the page will most likely be blocked by an Instagram employee.

Step-by-step instructions for repair

1. Log in to Instagram through the official mobile application.

Try to log in to a blocked account using your username and password. If the account is indeed blocked, then on the smartphone screen you will see something like the following message, as shown in the screenshots below.

In the pop-up window, click the button Learn more , then you will be taken to the Instagram help page, where you need to select the link tell us about it , as shown below.

In some cases, instead of the page listed above, another page may be displayed where there is no such link.

To question This account is used to represent a company, product or service click No .

After that, you can optionally fill in the field Full name and last name .

But it is important to fill in the following three fields accurately: enter your account login, e-mail address and the country from which you are sending this request.

Based on our experience, the e-mail address that is indicated in the recovery form does not play a special role. We successfully managed to restore blocked accounts using unrelated e-mail addresses.

After completing the form, click the button Submit .

If your submission is successful, you will be automatically redirected to the main page of the Instagram help center.

In some cases, the following errors may occur when filling out the form:

  • Your request cannot be processed

Your request could not be processed. There was a problem with this request. We are working to fix it as soon as possible.

  • Verify account to request verification

Before submitting a verification request, go to Instagram and verify your identity.

In both cases above, we recommend that you register a new and clean email address that is not associated with any Instagram account. Then fill out the recovery form again and wait for an automatic response from Instagram.

3. Send a selfie with a code.

A few minutes after filling out the restoration form (depending on the loading of the Instagram service), an email with further instructions will be sent to the e-mail address indicated in the form.

If after 15 minutes you have not received an email from Instagram, try creating a new e-mail address and specify it when submitting the recovery form.

We suspect that in some cases Instagram may mistakenly or intentionally blacklist your email address when filling out a form.

If the form is successfully completed, you will receive the following response.

From the content of the email, it is clear that Instagram wants to get a reaction from you, which is difficult to automate.

It has been experimentally established that Instagram is not interested in your face and there is no real check whether you are in the photo or someone else.

Such an unlocking system is made in order to exclude the fact of mass automated unlocking of accounts.

The face, as well as the login, are deliberately hidden for the article. You don't have to.

Take a blank sheet of paper and write with a dark marker or felt-tip pen large and legible the code indicated in the letter, below the name and surname in accordance with what you indicated when filling out the form and account login. Then take a photo with a piece of paper in your hand.

Save the photo with the code in JPEG format. This is an extremely important step. The file extension must be ".jpeg" and no other. Otherwise, the letter may not reach.

If the image is not suitable, you can get the following response. In our case, the file weighed 3 MB and most likely could not be displayed by an Instagram employee as an attached file.

To correctly convert photos to JPEG format, use the JPEG-PNG Image file converter application.

Reply to the email you received from Instagram and attach your jpeg file to the email. Nothing more can be written in the letter.

Send a letter and be patient for a few days.

The image with the code should be sent only by return mail, because for each such unblocking request, Instagram creates a special unique email address.

When sending a photo, select medium mode attachments, the photo should not weigh much, in our case these are always photos of 100-200 KB in size.

4. Wait for a response from Instagram.

In case of successful unlocking, you will receive the following letter.

If more than 7 days have passed and there is still no letter, then we recommend filling out the form again and preferably from some other mail that was not previously used on Instagram.

If after sending the letter with the code you did not receive a positive response, then do not lose hope. Feel free to write a letter through the form again.

The human factor plays an important role in unlocking. Continue to request an unlock through the appropriate form and send response emails with the code.

As you know, Instagram is famous for a large number of errors that occur when working with certain functions of the social network.

Personal experience

About a month ago, my personal Instagram account @sergeykomlev was blocked. Contacting the recovery forms did not help, a personal contact with Facebook support via chat did not give any result.

The Facebook staff responded fairly quickly to my request and even called me on my mobile when, unexpectedly for them, I stopped responding in the chat.

But they could not help me restore access to my Instagram account, citing the fact that a separate department in Instagram is responsible for blocking issues and they do not have any tools to influence it.

On February 28, 2021, I tried again to fill out the form at this link and I finally got it.

When filling out, I used a new mail, which is in no way associated with my Instagram account.

I am kind, why should I block someone?

The reasons for blocking someone on Instagram can be personal or business reasons.

Simply put, if you don't like someone, block them and they won't be able to view the content of your page, write comments, and so on. It will also help to fight against obsessive bots and fakes that constantly like you, subscribe and unsubscribe, write something in the comments or bother you with direct messages.

If you are the owner of a commercial page, do business on Instagram, then again, it is undesirable for you to be followed by other commercial organizations (which are not your target audience), bots and fakes. Yes, this has a positive effect on the number in the subscribers column, but it negatively affects the quality of the audience as a whole. All this leads to a decrease in activity and, as a result, a drop in coverage and loss of customers.

Stop enduring this (there could be a meme with you know who, but it won't be)! We figure out how to act to avoid both.

How to block a person on Instagram: a detailed guide

Blocking a person from your phone

Open the Instagram app from your phone. Log in with the required account. Find and open the page of the user you want to block.

Click on the three dots in the top right corner. A menu will appear in the middle of the screen where you need to click "Block".

Next, Instagram will ask you for confirmation - tap "Block" again.

Done! Selected account in the block!

From the computer

The algorithm of actions is absolutely the same.

Open the user page, press the menu button - three dots. Click "Block this user" and confirm your action.

If you want to file a complaint against a person during blocking, click Complain and select the reason for the complaint:

  • I don't like it;
  • This is spam;
  • Nudity or pornography;
  • Hostile language or symbols;
  • Other.

How to unblock a blocked user

You will need to unblock a user if you want him to be excluded from the list of your subscribers, but at the same time, he could go to your page. This is especially true for commercial pages.

To unblock a person on Instagram, go to their page as described above from a phone or computer. Open the menu, tap "Unblock" and then confirm the user's unblocking.

How to find and view blocked accounts

To see the entire list of users that you have previously blocked, go to Instagram. Open the main profile page.

Go to settings.

Open the "Privacy" section.

In the "Contacts" subsection, select "Blocked accounts".

A list of blocked accounts will open. From here you can also go to the profile page of interest.

How to set up mass blocking of users in SocialKit

This method is recommended only for commercial accounts and is needed to remove unwanted accounts from the list of your subscribers.

In our blog, we have already touched on the topic of cleaning Instagram from bots. Here the sequence of actions is the same.
