Home How To How to restore WhatsApp chats history: Step-by-step guide here
Did your WhatsApp chats get deleted? WhatsApp chats history can be lost if you change your device or delete it by mistake. Whatever may be the reason, the good news is there is a way to retrieve them. WhatsApp is one of the most widely used applications and users send billions of messages including images, audio, video, GIFs, among others every day to the people on their contact list. You can know that these messages are delivered to users' phones and WhatsApp promptly deletes them from the company's servers.
If you have lost your WhatsApp chats and want to restore the history then you can try the following methods. However, in case you want to restore your conversation on a new Android device then you need to ensure that your chats are backed up before restoring them. In order to take the chat backup you need to open WhatsApp, go to more settings, select chat and then chat backup.
Also, choose the Google Account that you want your chats backed up to. You can also create a local backup on your device. Then tap back up. After the backup has been saved, you can remove WhatsApp from your device and install it on your new Android device.
To maintain a copy of your WhatsApp chat history on Google Drive, you can enable the automatic backup feature and select its frequency as daily, weekly, or monthly. In order to successfully restore a Google Drive backup, you need to use the same phone number and Google Account used to create the backup.
You need to ensure that your new Android device is linked to the Google Account where your backup is saved. Install and open WhatsApp, then verify your number. Tap RESTORE when prompted to restore your chats and media from Google Drive.
After the restoration process is complete, tap NEXT. Your chats will be displayed once initialization is complete.
It can be noted that WhatsApp will continue to restore your media files after your chats are restored. If you install WhatsApp without any prior backups from Google Drive, WhatsApp will automatically restore from your local backup file.
If you want to use a local backup, you will need to transfer the files to the phone using a computer, file explorer or SD Card.
Download a file manager app. In the file manager app, navigate to your local storage or sdcard > WhatsApp > Databases. If your data is not stored on an SD card, you might see "internal storage" or "main storage" instead. Copy the most recent backup file to the local storage's Databases folder of your new device. Then Install and open WhatsApp, then verify your number. Tap RESTORE when prompted to restore your chats and media from the local backup.
Also, users need to remember that your phone will store up to the last seven days worth of local backup files. Local backups will be automatically created every day at 2:00 AM and saved as a file in your phone. If your data is not stored in the /sdcard/WhatsApp/ folder, you might see "internal storage" or "main storage" folders.
If you want to restore a local backup that is not the most recent one, you will need to do the following:
Download a file manager app. In the file manager app, navigate to your local storage or sdcard > WhatsApp > Databases. If your data is not stored on the SD card, you might see "internal storage" or "main storage" instead. Rename the backup file you want to restore from msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 to msgstore.db.crypt12. It is possible that an earlier backup might be on an earlier protocol, such as crypt9 or crypt10. Do not change the number of the crypt extension. Uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp and tap RESTORE when prompted.

Do you have critical official chats on your WhatsApp, but you are about to switch your phone and are looking for WhatsApp Backup?
Well, make it a point to note that how to restore WhatsApp Backup without uninstalling sounds a kind of tricky and impossible to implement.
The WhatsApp itself has provided some guidelines over the concerned subject in its FAQ section. Therefore, we should first discuss what WhatsApp says and then talk about an efficient alternative to do the entire task super quickly without reading such lengthy guidelines and following a long list of steps.
We tried to create guidelines on how to restore WhatsApp Backup without uninstalling on Android and iPhone quite easy to understand in the sections given below.
There are no chances to guide you on WhatsApp Backup restoration after its uninstalling. It is because the step is against the system's performance, and so you can’t even think of its implementation in reality.
However, you can follow some simple steps on restoring your chat history in WhatsApp Android and WhatsApp iPhone.
Restore WhatsApp Backup in Android
Almost two ways are suggested by WhatsApp guidelines to restore data and ‘chat history’ to the new phone.
These two ways are local Backup and Google Drive.
For its successful implementation, you have to use the same Google account and phone number that you've used earlier to create a backup.
Step 1: Reinstall WhatsApp
After you have uninstalled the WhatsApp, simply reinstall it over the new device from the same official platform.
Step 2: Verify details
After reinstallation, you have to open WhatsApp and verify details such as Contact Number, etc.
Step 3: Start restoring
Automatically, a prompt will open in the main screen window where you have to click the Restore button. It will then start restoring chats and media from Google Drive.
Step 4: Proceed with Next
The restoration process will take your few minutes to get complete. After that, you have to tap the Next button.
Once initialization got complete, the chats will display over the phone.
Step 5: Restore begins
After the above steps are over, WhatsApp will automatically start restoring your Backup from Google Drive. All the media files will also get restored after chat history backup.
Note: In case you don’t have prior installs from Google Drive, all your backup media will get automatically restored by WhatsApp via local backup.
Recommended Reading: Transfer WhatsApp Messages from Android to Apple Devices.
To use the local backup facility for restoration, you have to transfer media files to a new device via the file explorer, computer, or SD card. Just keep in mind the following points.
After you have maintained WhatsApp local backup, it’s much easy to restore media files and chat history as follows.
Step 1: Launch File Manager App
Take WhatsApp backup on local storage and access it by installing any File Manager or File Explorer app on your device.
Step 2: Browse device’s storage
Go to your device’s storage and click WhatsApp. Then go to Databases or SD card> WhatsApp> Databases. It is the location where your Backup got saved.
Step 3: Rename backup file
Now, you should rename this backup file for easy accessibility. Well, it’s optional to do so. If you opt for it, you can go to msgstore.db.crypt12 from msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12. Don’t change its crypt extension number.
Step 4: Reinstall WhatsApp
If you have WhatsApp already installed, simply uninstall and reinstall it via Google Play Store.
Step 5: Start Restore
After you’re over with reinstalling WhatsApp, simply verify your contact details, as was the case in Google Drive backup process. The app will take just a few seconds to determine if any existing backups are available. Click the Restore button and wait some time to get all the data retrieved back from saved files.

If you have deleted WhatsApp conversations, you can restore them in a few steps.
We tell you what you can do on an iPhone and an Android smartphone.
In the article we consider proven methods of information recovery. Click on the link to go directly to the point of interest. nine0003
One of the reliable and easy ways to restore information in WhatsApp is to use third-party software. But it often requires rooting, and rooting a smartphone is quite risky (read why). Therefore, it is worth looking for programs that can work with standard firmware. For example, Tenorshare UltData. nine0003
The program works simply: you need to run it and click the "Restore WhatsApp Data" button.
Then connect the smartphone to the computer with a cable. Before doing this, it is advisable to make a backup copy of messages - just in case.
Although root rights are not required, you need to open access to the developer menu. This is safe (if you do not change the parameters manually). Usually you need to go along the path "Settings> System> About phone" and press your finger on "Build number" until a message appears about entering the mode. nine0003
If you haven't created a backup, the program will prompt you to do it yourself. After a few steps, you will see deleted messages and pictures - you can restore them by clicking on the appropriate button.
In the same way, you can restore correspondence on iPhone / iPad, including using a backup copy on iCloud. To do this, you will need to download Ultdata iOS.
Perhaps the easiest way to save your WhatsApp history is to automatically create a cloud backup. All you need is a Google account and access to Google Drive. If you haven't linked the cloud to WhatsApp yet, follow these steps:
Now, if you lose your data or your smartphone, you can easily reinstall WhatsApp and start restoring via Google Drive. To do this, follow the recovery instructions when setting up WhatsApp.
If you have deleted some or all of your chat history, you can quickly restore it.
Delete WhatsApp from your smartphone. When reinstalling, click the "Restore" option. The latest backup copy of the messenger data will be loaded. However, do not forget that messages received or sent during the current day will not be completely restored.

Tips
How to recover deleted messages in WhatsApp
If you have not linked a Google account to create a backup, you have a second option. To do this, the correspondence should not be older than 7 days - any message deleted before that will not be restored. nine0003
nine0028 To restore the history of correspondence on your iPhone, the "Documents and data" section must be activated in iCloud settings. In the WhatsApp menu under "Chats Backup" you can see the time when the last copy was made. To restore chats, simply uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp. Use the same phone number as before and follow the instructions in the app itself. nine0003
If you're not offered a backup, your iCloud storage may have been full and no backups were being saved. In this case, recovery will not be possible. Therefore, we advise you to delete unnecessary files from the cloud in time so that there is always space on it.

In this article, we will show you different ways to recover deleted WhatsApp data. We will explain how to get back your deleted WhatsApp messages or chat history along with the app, we will also recommend a more powerful Android data recovery that is easy to use and free to download. nine0003
If you have backups of your WhatsApp chat history, you can restore them from the backup. If you have deleted any history or messages without backup, you can recover lost WhatsApp messages, attachments from automatic backups. Because WhatsApp automatically creates backups every day at 4am (your local time) and saves them to your phone's internal storage (assuming there is enough free space) or to your Android phone's external microSD card. What you need in order to recover whatsapp messages is uninstall whatsapp then reinstall the chat app again. During the installation process, you will be prompted to restore your message history. Just press
Restore and all messages from the last 7 days will be restored.
You can follow the instructions below to restore WhatsApp messages or chats from a backup:
You can find the WhatsApp backup files in the /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases folder and you will see that they are saved with the name "msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt7". Please note that the WhatsApp backup folder may be in your phone storage or external storage.
nine0003
We know that new messages sent/received after a backup and deleted before the next backup cannot be restored.
If you want to keep a copy of new WhatsApp messages, you can create a copy manually via WhatsApp > Menu Button > Options > Chat Options > Backup Conversations . Typically, a manually created backup file is saved as "msgstore.db.crypt7" in the /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases folder. Rename this chat backup file to something like "msgstore.db.crypt7.newest" or "msgstore.db.crypt7.current". However, there is no easy way to merge your new, old and restored messages.
If you just delete some very important messages without a backup, how can you get them backed up? We recommend this android data recovery, which is easy to use and you can download it for free. You can recover whatsapp messages without backup with this android data restorer as follows. nine0003
So don't use your phone currently to prevent overwriting data with new files instead of deleted ones. Now download the Android mobile data recovery software below and follow the steps below to recover deleted WhatsApp messages without backups on Samsung or other Android phones. nine0142 Note : This is a desktop program for Windows and Mac and you will not be able to download it to your phone or other computers. This file contains both the trial version and the full version of the program. You can order a license key online to receive it by email and then unlock the full version by entering the already purchased key.
Here is a step by step guide showing you how to enable USB debugging on Android phones, or if you are a Samsung Galaxy phone user, let's see how to enable USB debugging on Samsung Galaxy phones. nine0003
Launch the Android data restorer on your computer. Use your USB cable to connect your mobile phone and computer. The data recovery program can automatically detect your mobile phone and establish a connection between the data recovery application and your phone.
Android Data Recovery will now analyze your phone. It will check your Android version, driver support, etc. Before allowing the Android data recovery program to scan your phone, you can select the file you would like to recover. But this is not necessary, you can leave the default settings, then the data recovery assistant will scan all the files and data on the phone.
It is recommended to select files of a specific type that needs to be recovered, in this case WhatsApp messages and documents, as this can narrow down the search and save you a lot of time. See screenshot below. You can also use this program to recover lost photos, videos, contacts, text messages, call history, music, etc. nine0003
Now click the Next button in the lower right corner of the screen at the top to allow the Android data recovery tool to scan your Samsung smartphone or other Android device. This tool can find lost files and data in internal storage or external storage. The results page will be grouped into different categories and you can open any of them to view and find data, and restore any item or data to your computer and mobile phone.
