How to manage a telegram channel

How to create a Telegram channel and manage it

Channels allow you broadcasting public messages. The number of potential channel members is unlimited so it depends on you how large your audience will be. New members who join your channel can see the entire message history.

Decide on the topic. The most popular channels are those providing unique authentic content so it is a great idea to find the field where you can share really useful information. The second way is to start an entertainment channel.

Iphone: Go to Chats tab, tap the New Message icon in the top-right corner, choose New Channel option.
Android: Go to Chats list and tap the pencil icon. Choose ‘New Channel’.
Desktop: Tap “burger” menu in the top-left corner and choose New Channel option.

Now choose, will your channel be public or private.
Public channels have usernames and they can be found in Telegram search or by t. me/ link published anywhere (in social media, on a website, sent via private message etc). Anyone can join them.
With a private channel, users can be added by an admin only.
You can add a link to your private channel and it will become public.

Add people from your contacts to the channel.

It is ready.
You can also appoint admins to manage your channel and add bots to perform different functions, for example, gather feedback

You can add authors to the channel. Assign them privileges. By default, an admin can change channel’s info, send, edit and delete messages but cannot add users and new admins.

By default, all the messages posted on the channel are anonymous. However, sometimes, it is useful if they appear with authors signature. To do this, go to Channel Info and tap Edit (if you do it on the desktop version, you need to choose Manage Channel option under three points icon in the top right corner). Set the Sign messages option to “on”. Now, all the new messages will be published with signatures (however, the old ones stay anonymous).

Telegram user can input a hashtag to search box and see all the messages with this tag in chats and channels. If you do not use hashtags to mark thematic content, your subscribers will not be able to easily find it when they need it.

If you post quite often it is better to turn off push notifications and broadcast in silent mode or the users may mute your channel themselves or even leave it.

Using bots on your freshly created Telegram channel will help:

  •  make your posts aesthetically plausible;
  • interact with your channel subscribers;
  • schedule publications;
  • monitor your channel performance.

There are two types of bots:

External bots – usually, you add them as channel admins and they help you to manage it.

Inline bots – they are called right from the channel using the commands.

  1. @ControllerBot allows forming posts and sending them immediately or postponed, add voting with emoji and viewing statistics. It is virtually a universal tool.
To use it, you need to create your own bot on Telegram. It can be done in several clicks (they suggest you hints on the process).
Afterward, you appoint your creation an admin of your channel and connect through it your channel with ControllerBot. Since this moment, you can access all the functions of ControllerBot and manage your channel through your bot.
    Creating a post:
The bot allows formatting a text using a limited version of HTML or Markdown. It will provide a short info about markup syntax, in case you don’t know or don’t remember it.
You can attach to your post an image, a button with a link, and “reactions” which allow voting with emoji.
You can publish your post on a channel immediately or schedule publication for chosen date and time.
Return to the @ControllerBot, to see statistics on your channel.
This tool is great for conveniently managing several channels.
  2. @mrkdwnrbt is a bot for post formatting.
  3.  @TGStat_Bot is a bot that gathers statistics. You can use it to compare your channel performance with your competitors’ channels. It provides such metrics: number of subscribers, the reach of one post, the number of views per day and mentions in other channels. There is one problem: you can see only the statistics of channels which are added to @TGStat_Bot service by their owners.
  4. @chotamreaderbot allows transferring content from various websites to Telegraph and sending it to your subscribers in Instant View format.

The most popular of them are used to interact with subscribers.

  1. @like allows adding emoji buttons to the message. In this way, the users will be able to vote for your post or express their attitude towards the content of the story.
  2. @vote is an advanced bot for anonymous voting. With its help, you can create a survey and add there up to 10 answers. You can also close the voting.
  3. @groupagreebot is built similarly to @vote, but has an additional feature: you can create a ”personal” survey indicating who has voted for what.

Encouraging your subscribers to interact, neatly presented content and analytics are essential factors of your channel success. We hope using bots will help you to deliver your useful, high-quality content to your target audience in the most persuasive way and promote you Telegram channel.

How to create and start running a Telegram channel for business - Marketing on vc.ru

There are a huge number of places where businesses interact with their audience. One of the new ones, where competition is not yet so strongly developed, is Telegram channels.

31683 views

Telegram channel is a community in which posts are created only by the administrator. The rest of the participants can send reactions, perform a target action, or leave comments if these actions are allowed by the author of the post when it is published.

Difference between channel and group

The main difference between a channel and a group is that, by default, its members cannot communicate with each other. If the administrator, when publishing a post, allows commenting on it, then channel visitors will be able to express their opinion in the attached group.

You can't see other members of the Telegram channel - the public only has information about the total number of readers. In this way, privacy is achieved, and each of the participants does not have to worry that the fact of his participation in the channel will become known to someone else. Users of the channel will also not see that a new subscriber has joined it. In the group, about each new user, a corresponding message is received, which is visible to all participants.

Another difference is that an unlimited number of people can subscribe to the channel, and the maximum number of group members cannot exceed 200 thousand, and for this you need to set up a supergroup.

Posts in the Telegram channel are provided with a view counter. Thanks to this, you can draw conclusions about the activity of your audience. The activity of group members can only be estimated by the number of messages from them. The same users who prefer to simply view the feed and not discuss will not be included in the statistics.

For clarity, we present the differences between the channel and the group in the form of a table:

Types of channels

All Telegram channels are divided into 2 types depending on the possibility of joining them - public and private.

Public

Any user of the application can find the public channel through the search. Anyone can join it. Such channels are suitable for attracting the maximum number of interested people, warming up the audience and sales.

Private

You can join a private channel only with a special invitation link. Even if a person knows the exact name of the channel, he will not be able to find it through the search. Private channels are suitable for communicating with people who have already bought your product. For example, if you create online courses, you can use a private channel to notify participants of the date and time of the next webinar.

How to create a channel

Any Telegram user can create a channel. This does not require special skills. Just do everything according to our instructions.

From phone

The interface of Android phones is somewhat different from iOS phones, so it would be advisable to consider the steps of creating a channel on such smartphones separately.

Android

Enter the application. In the lower right corner is a blue circle with a pencil.

Click on it and select "Create Channel".

We fill in the data about the channel: the name and description, upload the avatar, click on the checkmark in the upper right corner.

At the next stage, we select the type of channel - public or private, and also prescribe a link by which subscribers can go to the channel.

Click on the checkmark in the upper right corner. The application will offer to add new subscribers - this can be done later. Click on the blue circle with an arrow in the lower right corner.

Channel created! You can fill it with content.

iPhone

When you go to the application, in the upper right corner you will see a blue square with a pencil. Click on it.

Select “Create channel”.

Fill in the title and description, upload the avatar. Click "Next" in the upper right corner.

Enter the link and select its type - public or private. Here you can also prohibit copying materials from the channel. This setting can be changed in the settings. Click "Next".

As in the android application, in the next step you can invite subscribers from your contacts, or you can do it later. Press "Next" again.

Channel ready!

Via computer

The steps for creating a channel in Telegram are the same for Windows and MacOS, but some elements of the application interface for these operating systems are slightly different.

Windows

We go into the Telegram program and click on the three bars in the upper left corner.

Opens a menu in which you need to select the item “Create channel”.

A window pops up in which we enter the name and description of the channel, upload the avatar. Click "Create".

The next step is to select the channel's privacy: public or private. Here you need to register a link.

Press “Save”. The next step is to add members. If we do not need it yet, click "Skip". And so the channel is created.

MacBook

Log in to the Telegram program. In the upper left corner is a blue square with a pencil - click on it and select "Create Channel".

We enter all the same information: avatar, title, description. Click "Next" in the upper right corner.

Select the type of channel, set the link, specify whether the transfer of channel materials is allowed. Click "Finish".

Channel ready!

Telegram channel for business

A Telegram channel for business should be designed in such a way that readers want to subscribe to it. Therefore, come up with a catchy name and a clear description for it, make a bright avatar. You can use up to 128 characters in the channel name, but we recommend limiting it to 27 characters so that it does not get cut off. The description allows you to place up to 255 characters. You can insert any emoji into the title and description, and links into the description.

The link to the channel should be as simple as possible so that users can easily enter it into the search box if they wish. It can be a transliteration of the channel name or the name of your main product in English. If, when entering the link, it turned out that it was already taken, do not add characters to it until you get a free address. Better come up with something else - unique, that will be associated only with you.

Basic settings

You can customize the channel depending on the purpose of its creation. We'll show you how to do it on a computer.

Where are

Go to the channel and click on its name.

In the upper right corner, click “Change.”

You are in the settings!

Settings menu

In the channel settings menu, you can change its name, description, type or avatar, and change the configuration of the following parameters:

  • “Discussions” - when this option is enabled, a separate group is created where channel posts are duplicated with the possibility of commenting;
  • "Sign messages" - publication of posts indicating their author. Can be useful if the channel is run by multiple administrators;
  • "Administrators" - you can appoint any user as an administrator and select options for him;
  • “Subscribers” - view current channel readers, add new ones and ban unwanted ones;
  • "Black List" - readers who were banned by the channel administrator.

If you go to "Administrators", you will see the "Recent Activity" option

Displays all activities that have occurred in the channel in the last 2 days. For example, here admins can see which readers have joined or left the channel.

Designing a Telegram channel

In order for readers to come to a new channel, you need to take care of its design. Let's consider this question in more detail.

Channel Avatar

The avatar must be of interest to users. Choose an interesting picture with a clear image or a logo for it. At the same time, we do not recommend choosing images with many small details - let it be a large image of one object, which is clearly visible in a small circle.

An example of a good avatar

An example of a bad avatar

Channel description

The description should give the user a clear idea of where they are. Write here about the content that you publish, how it will be useful to the reader, and also place a link to your site.

Example of a good description

Bad description example

Catchy headlines

Post titles should make subscribers want to continue reading. But you should not be like the journalists of the yellow press - do not write in the spirit: “He drank our tea for a week and he grew it!”. The title should reflect the information that is written under it, not distort it or contradict it. For example, if you are writing about how to lose weight, then title the post: “5 ways to lose weight that work.

Alternate posts

Content must be varied to appeal to different audiences. You can write about news in your industry, about useful life hacks, about upcoming events. The main thing is not to post several posts of the same topic in a row. This threatens that they will not be read, but scrolled through.

Content ratio

All content posted on Telegram can be informational, selling, engaging, entertaining or viral. In a commercial channel, approximately 40% of posts should be informational, 20% entertaining, and 40% selling. At the same time, you should not try to sell immediately after creating the channel. The audience must first be prepared by telling them about the product and describing its benefits. And so that at this time readers do not fall asleep from boredom, you need to sometimes entertain them with funny stories that fit the topic.

Example of bad content ratio

Example of a successful content ratio

If you add a comment group to your channel, you can insert engaging elements into informative and entertaining posts that will encourage the audience to communicate.

Viral content cannot be planned — it can be an informative post, a funny picture, or a new product launch. Information becomes viral when subscribers begin to actively forward it to their friends, and they are so addicted to it that they come to your channel. You can increase the likelihood of this if you know what pain points your audience has and how to act on them.

Posting time

It's good if posts on a certain topic will be published at a certain time. For example, you can post news in the morning, an interview at lunchtime, a joke or a meme a couple of hours before the end of the working day, and a relaxing story in the evening.

Connecting bots

Bots help to upgrade the telegram channel so that it turns from a regular blog into an online store, an educational platform or a freelance exchange. With bots, you can save on channel admins as they can automatically answer frequently asked questions, place orders, accept payments, send messages, and publish posts.

I would suggest starting with @ControllerBot. To do this, find the bot in the search

Select it, and then in the chat that opens, click “Start”.

The bot will start sending you tips that will help you set up delayed posting, attach reactions and comments to posts, and view channel statistics. @ControllerBot will create its own bot for your channel, which will deal with administration.

You can connect other bots to the channel. On the Internet, you can find many bots that perform various functions. For example, @VoterBiBot will run giveaways, @markdownbot will help with post text formatting, and @shortLinkMakerBot will shorten a long link.

Attracting traffic

After creating a channel, you can invite up to two hundred readers from your contact list to join it. The rest of the users themselves must somehow find out about your channel.

If you have a large audience on another social network, for example, on Instagram, publish information there that you are now also on Telegram. And to make people want to subscribe to your channel, tell them about the benefits: for example, about information that will be published only there, or about a gift that awaits each new reader.

Add a channel link in your profile description of other social networks, place a button with a similar link on your website, write the channel's nickname on your business card, publish an article in a popular publication mentioning your channel.

Register in the catalogs of telegram channels. You can find them by searching the Internet, and usually the owners of these sites do not charge money for registration - they earn on advertising. You are unlikely to get live subscribers there, but the owners of other channels will be able to find out about you and offer mutual PR.

Advertising

Advertising in telegram channels works on the principle of word of mouth: you agree with the administrator of another channel on all the conditions and he posts a post about you. You can find a PR platform:

  • in other popular channels;
  • in telegram bots;
  • on advertising exchanges.

The main thing is to be vigilant so as not to stumble upon scammers. Check all the information about the advertiser, look for reviews about him on the Internet, ask experienced friends for advice.

The Telegram Ads advertising platform has also recently launched, but the entry threshold for it is currently from €1 million. Gradually, it should decrease and become accessible to small businesses.

How to delete the created channel in Telegram

If the channel owner leaves it, it will not be deleted. The channel can be found in the search and join it, all materials will remain available to readers.

To delete a channel and content, go to the settings menu and select the “Delete channel” function. This can be done if the channel has less than 1,000 subscribers. If the channel has gained more than a thousand readers, it can only be deleted through technical support.

To summarize

A good Telegram channel is an additional source of traffic growth and audience acquisition, brand awareness and customer loyalty. The Telegram channel can also become an independent platform for doing business, replacing other platforms. The main thing is to publish high-quality content there with care for readers.

How to start a telegram channel and not be disappointed. Part 1. Why Telegram and are there any alternatives? — Social networks on vc.ru

A post for newbies who are just thinking of starting a telegram channel, but doubt or don't understand the difference between Cart and Yandex.Zen, or even, prastihospade, from LiveJournal. In the first part, I will tell you why, not how. Let's go!

11 235 views

Please do not take the text as an ultimatum instruction on how to create a popular channel for hundreds of thousands of subscribers, quit and live on money from advertising. A popular channel is either serious work or serious investments in promotion. And often, both. I myself have been professionally engaged in Internet marketing for more than *** twenty years, worked in digital agencies from the top 5, and I think I understand a little about all this. That's it, now just let's go)

Telegram is the King

I, as the ambassador of Telezhenka, will now praise her. Telegram is the number 2 platform in popularity among social networks and instant messengers in Russia. In the first place VK. Recently, Telegram overtook Instagram, although everything is quite dynamic here, and in the future the situation may change.

Number 2

Here are the statistics, I have already written about this separately. This is DAU (Daily Audience).

Most likely, for Telegram, the situation will only change for the better, but under certain circumstances, it may give way to Insta or some other platform. Today, Telegram is not just some fucking messenger, it is also a content consumption platform with millions of users.

Everything is here

Everything is in the Trolley. Nikita, Stas, Gena, Turbo and Dyusha Metelkin. But someone, of course, more. For example, if we take IT people, PR people or marketers, the vast majority use Telegram as not only a personal, but also a working tool. Group chats for work, audio calls, etc. are all there. Although, many are still on WhatsApp, which does not even provide close functionality.

Simply

Telegram is convenient and fast. Works on any platform, easy to use, even a child can create his own channel with memes about his classmates. Come on, kids… Even an insta-blogger can figure it out easily.

Rich

Cart channel monetization is also good. If you want to make money on advertising, then it is important to understand that CPM (cost per 1000 impressions) is more expensive there than in any social network.

However, a plus for the advertiser is a minus for the admin of the channel itself, which develops its offspring. The thing is that there is no official targeting in Telegram (well, ok, there is one format, you can even buy it through resellers), so advertisers go directly to channels and put budgets in the hands of admins. Not in the hands of Pashka Durov. Enough for bread and butter, and even not only with butter. Therefore, very soon you will find out what VP is (spoiler: mutual PR, not white power).

Any content. ANY!

Telegram is suitable for any type of content. Pictures, galleries, videos, circles, short texts, long texts, very long texts with a bunch of photos (via Telegraph), polls, quizzes… You can turn on comments or reactions, you can make buttons under posts, you can do nothing like that, and it's all the same will be the norm. Even video bloggers need a channel in Telegram, because they also need to write posts somewhere, and not just shoot videos.

Not convinced? Still want a blog in Yandex.Zen? Nook, let's move on.

How does Telegram differ from other platforms? And why is he better than them?

Now let's compare Telegram with other instant messengers, social networks, blogs and services. And yes, in some ways it is better, but in some ways, of course, it is not worse;)

WhatsApp

There is no such thing as a channel in WhatsApp, but it is possible to create a group in which only certain people can write people. Actually, it will be an analogue of a closed group in the Telega. You can even allow everyone to communicate there if necessary. But all other functions and goodies of Telegram will be absent there. For example, comments or reactions.

In general, I personally do not consider this option at all. But the tool is working. It is possible to add participants, invite by link, mutually promote through other group channels. Pretty perverted way, but ok. Well, tell me, how often do you see bloggers inviting you to your WhatsApp channel? But truckers have a very popular topic. They receive orders from dispatchers there. There is also a group of my entrance. It discusses from which apartment even cockroaches run. So here it is.

Viber

In case you don't know, Viber is not a vibrator, but also something like WhatsApp. The main disadvantage of Viber is a small audience. But, at least, crutches are not needed as in Vatsap. That is, this is a huge limitation for promotion on external resources. There is also stricter moderation. To be honest, I don’t know why I’m writing about Viber, did any of you ever think of creating a channel there? I think you need to understand very well why the channel is needed exactly there in order to create it.

Yandex Zen

My humble opinion may not coincide with the opinion of thousands of Zen people ... Zenists ... Zenonists? How are they there? In general, if it were possible to create a digital colostomy bag, then it would be called almost the same as Yandex Zen. Or just the same. The main complaint is the quality of what they write there. You will have to compete not with bloggers, but with shitposters who earn a penny from reading their posts. Sorry for the prejudice. But if your audience is 45+ from 60% to 70%, then yes. Some of the topics are great.

The official statistics are:

On my channel (sinful, I confess), a little different:

WTF, Yasha, how to write about crypto for pensioners?

By the way, if we talk about the intersection of audiences, then I have a suspicion that Telegram and Zen intersect the worst. It makes little sense to drive traffic back and forth.

However, there are pluses. There were, at least. It was possible to get more organic content, but now posts are shown mainly to subscribers.

In Zen it's even easy to find tops to see what's popular. Popular topics: recipes, news, patriotism, diy, shitposting.

Find your topic there? Then ok. But still, it is worth remembering that there is a lot of competition, and not with bloggers, but with shitposters who want to make easy money on rewrites.

VK

Starting a public in VK is, in principle, a good idea. Huge audience, flexible targeting settings, clear promotion tools. But here it is worth clearly understanding what the purpose of the public is. If you want to sell your products, you can do it without a public. If you want to sell advertising posts, then here, most likely, you can earn less than in Telegram.

In VK, the problem is that there these publics are like dirt. Most of them are full of bots. Advertising is bought directly only from very large ones. In short, a public for 10,000 subscribers on VK is not the same as a Cart for 10,000. The reach on VK will be lower, but you can promote them. Personally, I would consider VK more as a media story than as the main platform for running my channel. But it’s worse with virality and organics. But VK works great for promoting telegram channels. The cost is comparable to attracting a participant to the public in VK itself.

Well, there is an opinion that there is only one shkolota in VK. Ok, here are the statistics by age (albeit old, but clearly). Everything's there.

The summary is such that it is not worth brushing aside.

FB and Instagram

Since these social networks are now banned in our country (perhaps for many years), I would not focus on them at all. Of course, both there and there are full of audiences, but without targeted advertising and the departure of many advertisers on Insta, it will be sad. But there are cheap ways (for) promotion through mass following. And, of course, mutual PR. Insta remains the same specific platform with its own content features. Suddenly you like to stream or cut stories with polls? Oh, yes, you have a blogger;)

I don't see any point in creating a page on Facebook now. Is it possible to develop a personal page with a personal brand.

OK

It takes a genius to start a channel there. But still. For certain topics, this damned social network is also suitable. At the same time, you can like your former classmates. Substantial bonus.

LJ

Dead.

VC

Live A very good site, although I would not consider blogging here as the basis of the basics. For longreads on certain topics - yes. For example, finance, marketing, business, startups, technology. Definitely not about nails. Personally, I write posts on VC, I met a lot of adequate people and interesting authors here, I even subscribed to their telegram channels;) A good rubricator for subsites, the ranking algorithm, again, is not bad. Really interesting posts will actually be read by a lot of people. But selling ads in your posts is unlikely to succeed. In general, I recommend it to good authors of the above topics.

Peekaboo

On the one hand, we can say that the site is very similar to VC, but on the other hand, it is the complete opposite. Thanks to communities and ranking algorithms, you can get good coverage. The audience is peculiar, but mostly harmless.

By the way, there are a lot of IT people there. But they mostly joke about IT there, and they go to write and read on Habr. I will not write about Habr, a narrowly thematic platform, to whom it suits, he already knows about it. In general, Peekaboo is a good place to tell stories, share experiences, or even post memes. But somehow I have not yet heard of anyone whose main channel is an account on Peekaboo. But maybe I'm wrong. As a donor and an additional channel, yes rather than no, and on almost any topic. Just not to sell something there. The maximum is to leave an advertising link to your Telezhenka. The rules are strict, they can even ban;)

Standalone blog

Standalone blogs have become quite rare these days. If you have the idea that you need a standalone blog, go for it. Anyway, sooner or later you will realize that you will never get as many views there as on VC or Pikabu. But you can make any mess. In the cart, by the way, you can also create a mess. And functional limitations are covered by goodies in terms of audience, virality and the ability to accumulate a subscriber base..

Any kind of exotic

Perhaps I can do without exotics, as well as without video hosting. Obviously, if you shoot videos or stream games, you should go to YouTube or Twitch.
