How to introduce yourself on instagram
How To Talk About Yourself On Instagram
Have you ever just stopped to admire the really successful Instagram accounts out there?
I know I have.
You know…the ones with literally millions of followers, incredibly high engagement and consistently viral content. It’s pretty incredible to watch.
When the BossBabe Instagram account crossed 3 million followers (in just three years) I was so excited.
Then, it really got me thinking: what is it that sets the biggest Instagram accounts apart? What are they doing differently to have the type of exponential success we all are striving for?
Here’s where I landed: there are dozens of things that contribute to a successful Instagram account (duh), but there is at least one thing every single account does well…
They all know how to talk about themselves.
Did you just cringe a little bit? Because I know several years ago, I totally would have. That’s because most people don’t know how to talk about themselves on Instagram. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
The thing is – the Instagram accounts that have the most success are talking about themselves…pretty much all the time. It’s in their bios, in their posts and all over their content.
You probably don’t even notice it. That’s because they’re really, really good at talking about themselves in a way that makes their audience know, like and trust them.
You can be, too.
In this blog, I’m going to share with you exactly how to talk about yourself on Instagram in a way that helps your account grow and scale so you can become an Instagram account people admire, too.
Let’s dive in.
How To Talk About Yourself In Your BioFor your Instagram bio to drive engagement on your profile, it needs to have two key components: a clear profile picture and searchable keywords. Here’s what I mean…
1 – Your Profile Must Have A Clear Picture Of Your Face
I actually get a lot of pushback on this one, and that’s because so many people are afraid to show their face on social media. If that’s you, here are a couple of notes…
First, you shouldn’t be. Social media is called “social” for a reason. People buy products from people. If you’re willing to show yourself online, the people who follow you are much more likely to buy from you and support your business.
That being said, if you’re really opposed to using your face in your profile picture, I recommend you use a clear picture of your logo instead. It’s not quite as strong of an option, but if you’re absolutely against using your face, showing your logo works as a close second.
2 – Your Profile Must Have Searchable Keywords
A lot of people don’t think about it, but Instagram is a mini search engine. That means you want your profile section to have keywords that make it easy for people to find your profile if they need to work with someone in your industry.
Take a deep breath because I know what you’re thinking, and I have good news.
No, you don’t have to be an SEO expert to have keywords in your bio. You just need to be able to think like your customer. If you were looking for your business online, what would you search? Make a list of keywords and work them into your bio. That’s really all there is to it!
How To Talk About What You DoSo, I sort of lied earlier. There’s actually one more thing you need to feature in your Instagram bio, and that’s a short and sweet description of what you do.
One of the easiest ways to talk about what you do is to write a clear “I help statement”. Here’s the formula…
I help [the audience] [do what you help them do].
The first step to writing your “I help” statement is to write down who you help. Do you help working moms? Stressed pet-owners? Ambitious college students? Determine your audience and add them to the first blank.
Next, you’ll write what you help them do. Do you help decorate homes? Care for pets? Get financial aid? Add that statement in the second blank.
Here are some examples…
- I help working moms decorate their homes.
- I help stressed pet-owners care for their pets.
- I help ambitious college students get financial aid.
Add your “I help” statement to your bio and use it throughout your posts as a reminder to your audience of what you do and how you can help them.
How To Introduce Yourself In A PostIt is SO important that you take time to introduce yourself in a post every so often on your Instagram grid.
It might feel awkward to “re-introduce” yourself to your existing followers, but as your account grows, there will be more and more people who don’t know who you are or what you do. Those people will need to be introduced to you if you expect them to eventually know, like and trust you.
Writing an introduction post is actually not as hard as it seems. All you need to do is take the information from your bio and add a little sparkle.
Share your “I help” statement, weave any keywords into the copy and add a few personal details to make yourself relatable.
Don’t get overwhelmed by the personal details part. All you need to do is think about what you would say to a new friend. What’s your favorite coffee? Do you have any pets? What’s your favorite book right now? Little details like that will make your followers relate to you on a personal level, which is great for Instagram growth.
Can I Let You In On A Secret? As I’ve studied the most successful Instagram accounts, I’ve boiled down their success into three categories: consistency, confidence and capitalism. Here’s what I mean…
Capitalism means you have an Instagram account that’s actually making you money. Confidence means you’re showing up as yourself with dynamic content that reflects your personal brand.
But it all starts with consistency – aka, your ability to just show up.
The problem is, most people don’t have time to “just show up”. For every individual post you’re sharing, you’re either wasting time trying to design it yourself or spending thousands on a graphic designer. It’s exhausting.
That’s why I created Insta Influence Kit – your secret weapon to showing up consistently on Instagram.

What is post-acquaintance and why is it needed
A post-acquaintance is a self-presentation in which you talk about what you plan to do on the social network and what you can give users useful. At the end, be sure to add a call to action: “Subscribe”, “Leave a comment”, “Save the post”.
You can find similar publications from influencers, freelancers, experts and companies. Thus, new members of the community are introduced in accordance with the norms of online etiquette.
Note. Many people think that such posts should be published only at the start, but along with Instagram, your life is changing - and users are interested in following what is happening every time.
Greetings come out when a loyal audience gathers in the profile or new members sign up - for example, after a raffle or advertising.

Advantages of greetings
Let's analyze the advantages of greetings in the profile:
- Share details about yourself and new information.
- Convince users of your expertise and usefulness.
- Increase loyalty, as dating posts are personal information. nine0007
- Increase subscriber engagement. Once published, you can create a survey and collect user questions.
- Emphasize the benefits of your account.
Directions of greeting
There are two main directions:
- Brief biography. Freeform writing - you can start with the history of the company or from the moment you decided to start a blog.
- Storytelling. Mini-story text with an instructive effect or main idea, as well as a call to action. It is allowed to continue publishing such stories even after the greeting, combining them into a whole series of posts. This will keep the user's interest for a long time. nine0007
How to write an introduction post
In this section, we'll walk you through the steps involved in creating an introduction post.
Determining the purpose of the account
First, decide on the purpose of the profile:
- A personal blog is created to promote you as a brand. In the greeting, it would be appropriate to tell about yourself, about your hobbies and interests, as well as about what experience you will share with subscribers.
- Commercial account for companies is designed to attract an audience that will buy a product or order a service. The greeting can tell about the history of the organization, its mission and goals, advantages and production facilities, as well as products. nine0007
Preparation
When you have decided on the purpose of the account, you need to prepare before writing a greeting:
- Determine the target audience - who you want to attract to your profile, who will be interested in reading your publications and making purchases, where your future subscribers are, What are their interests and fears?
- Study your competitors and how they write greetings. Take a look at their features and take note of the most effective tricks to attract an additional audience. nine0007
- After receiving this data, you can choose the idea for the post and the plot, as well as understand what emotions you want to evoke in the reader.
- Proceed to the preparation of the publication plan - enter the keywords, thoughts and abstracts.
- Think of a title. For example, it can be a question or thought that will reflect the essence of the publication.
- Choose a photo or creative for a future introduction post.
Remember that the main thing in a greeting is to attract attention. Don't forget about creative, hashtags, geotagging, and promotion through ads and stories. nine0004
Effective post-acquaintance formulas
Let's look at several formulas that can be used to write a greeting.
Publication Formula | How to use |
“About me + personal qualities + education + hobby + question” | Think of a post in the form of a questionnaire. Write down information about yourself, and at the end ask users a question so that they can tell about themselves. This way you can collect information about the engaged audience. nine0152 |
Introduction + History + Conclusion | This is a classic storytelling format: an introduction, an outset, a climax and a conclusion - a call to action. |
“Who am I/we + what do I write about + for whom do I write” | Introduce yourself to the audience, tell us what your posts will be about and to whom they are addressed. This format is suitable for those cases when new subscribers have come to you and you already have a permanent base. For example, after contests or sweepstakes. | nine0157
“Who am I/we + how useful” | Briefly describe yourself and show in the text how you can be useful to your audience. At the end, add a call to action that tells users how to contact you or get more information. |
"Fact + story + investigation" | Post can start with an interesting fact about you. It could be a skill, a quality, or a characteristic. Next, move on to the story that helped develop or discover your trait. In conclusion, explain to subscribers how it helps you in life. nine0152 |
"Link + Description" | If you have multiple accounts, such as personal and commercial, you can post multiple links with a brief description of each profile. |
Hobby = Business | Post for those who turned their passion into work. In the introduction, ask subscribers a question about a hobby, then tell them about your hobby and how it turned into a business. |
"I/we are online + I/we are offline" | nine0149 If you have an account for business promotion and points of sale, tell the audience about the location of the stores and invite them to visit them.|
“Before/before” | In the title, write a call that will encourage users to read the post. And in the text, tell us about the achievements in the format “where did you start and where did you come to”. At the end, add a proposal to use your services to achieve the same results as yours. |
Mini Story | If you don't want to write about yourself in detail - formulate all the same, but briefly. Tell us who you are, what you do and what your competitive advantage is. Be sure to include a call to action at the end. |
Important! And to communicate with your followers, add an Instagram chatbot and a multilink that will help the audience get acquainted with your projects and products. With the SendPulse service, you can also sell through a free CRM system. nine0004
Simple yet powerful landing page builder
Create a mobile landing page, an online store or a multilink for Instagram and promote it through chatbots in messengers, email and SMS - all on one platform!
Tips for a good post
A few tips on how to write a good greeting:
- Call to action. Based on the text, you must determine the user's action: write a comment - tell about yourself, order a product or service, subscribe to an account or follow a link. nine0007
- Structure of the text. The logic of the story should flow smoothly from one thought to another. Try to avoid abrupt and illogical transitions.
- Tell the truth. No need to make up stories - you can embellish, but you can't write outright lies. Sooner or later it will open up - and you can lose the attention and trust of the audience.
- Emotions. The post should evoke certain emotions in your audience so that readers can experience them with you and try on the situation for themselves. nine0007
- Uniqueness. Show in the text chips or a selection of your own recommendations that will help users.
- Title. The first thing the user notices is the title. For example, it could be a question.
- Literacy and paragraphs. Don't forget to check the text for errors. Also divide the story into paragraphs and lists, add emoji. Users will be able to fix their eyes on important points and it is easier to perceive the text. nine0007
Important! Please note that you can add up to 2200 characters per post, including hashtags. Try not to cut the text halfway through and add its ending in the comments. You can insert a part of the story into a picture and add it to the image carousel.
Mistakes when writing an introduction post
Consider three common mistakes in greetings:
- Too many facts that don't tell your audience anything. For example, what kind of fruit do you like or what is your favorite color. If you are just starting to maintain an account on Instagram, this information will be useless for the target audience. nine0007
- Slang and terms. Difficult or new words may be incomprehensible to new audiences. Try to communicate with users in their language, as if you were telling a story to a friend who does not understand your work.
- Don't forget the goal. Greeting is not just a publication, but a way to attract the reader to perform a certain action.
How to choose the right hashtags for a post
Be sure to add hashtags and geotags to the post - they will help you find you on the social network. You can use up to 30 tags to be inserted into the post body. nine0004
Hashtags can be:
- Professional ones that describe your activity — #journalist, #blogger, #designer.
- By post category — #postacquaintance, #5factobomb.
- Sellers — #copywriter services, #repair of apartments.
- By area to find a specific target audience - #moscow, #msk.
Important! Dilute high frequency hashtags with medium or low frequency hashtags. So you will have a better chance of finding your target audience. nine0004
To find tags, use the search engine on Instagram or specialized services: Instatag.ru, Clarifai, Mafluence, Keyword Tool.io.
Good examples of posts about yourself
Let's look at some real examples of greetings.
Below is a screenshot of a post introducing the author to new subscribers. The text contains a story about what the girl did and who she works now. After that, there is a description of what the user can learn from the blog, and at the end there is a call for subscribers to tell about themselves. nine0004
Post for new subscribers in the format "who am I + what is useful."

Publication in the "link + description" format.Screenshot of the greeting with 10 facts about the author. This publication is suitable for further acquaintance with subscribers, which reveals the blogger's expertise.
Greeting to show expertisePost from a company that introduces subscribers to experts. In this case, there are a number of publications that talk about each employee and their benefits. nine0004 Greetings for companies
Another option to introduce subscribers to the company is to tell the story of its formation - for example, in several parts, as in the screenshot below.
History of the company to get acquainted with the brandFormat of the post in the form of "before/before". The author tells how she came to the activity from which she enjoys.
Greeting in two formats “before/before”Post in the format “who am I + what is useful”. The author introduces himself to subscribers at the beginning, and then shows his usefulness. At the end, a call to action was added - "write to Direct." nine0004 Greeting in the format “who am I + what is useful for”
Conclusion
In this article, we looked at the post-acquaintance and learned how to write it correctly and what mistakes to avoid.
A greeting is a great way to grab the attention of subscribers and new audiences. You can tell new facts about yourself, share successes and increase the credibility of your profile.
A win-win option for publishing about yourself:
- 85% of the text is information about the author of the account.
- 10% - withdrawal.
- 5% is a call to action.
Also, according to the scheme described above, you can make a similar post in other social networks.
And with the help of the SendPulse service, you can connect several communication channels and always be in touch with your clients. Use our products for complex promotion: create multilinks using the landing page builder, send email, Viber, SMS, WhatsApp mailings and push notifications, set up chat bots in Facebook Messenger, Instagram, VKontakte, WhatsApp and Telegram, and connect free CRM- system! nine0004
Post-acquaintance on Instagram: how to write in 2022
A country should know its heroes by sight. And if you are not a hero yet, but just maintain a page on social networks, you should tell at least your Instagram followers about yourself. How? After all, a correctly chosen nickname on Instagram will not be enough. Right! With the help of a post-acquaintance.
And yes, if you think that if you introduce yourself once and that's enough, then you are mistaken. Since when promoting a profile, a new audience will come, which you need to both introduce yourself to and keep after, for example, contests, giveaways, etc. nine0004
Therefore, in this article I will talk about the formulas for introductory posts and give ideas for personal and commercial accounts.
How to write a dating post on Instagram
An option for the lazy or those who prefer to save time - ready-made templates for dating on Instagram. Just substitute your personal data into the formulas and you can publish the first post to the Instagram feed.
1. Me + qualities + education + hobbies + ...
Write about yourself in the form of a questionnaire. This method does not provide for the manifestation of emotions in the text, only dry facts about you. Imagine that you are filling out a resume when applying for a job and consider how to describe the points: about yourself, character / personal qualities, education, family, hobbies. nine0004
At the end, don't forget to add an open question for subscribers to tell about themselves.
2. Introduction + story + conclusion
Or "storytelling". Design your Instagram welcome post as a story with a selling introduction, opening, climax and conclusion - a call to action. If possible, divide the text into 2-3 semantic parts, this will help keep users' attention for several publications.
3. Who am I + what am I writing about + who am I writing for
Take a virtual tour of your website. Indicate for whom the post was written (for example, for new subscribers or a specific category of target audience), tell us what you do and what content you publish in the feed and stories.
4. Who am I + what is useful
Describe yourself in 1-2 sentences, then show how you are useful to the audience, what problem you will help users solve with the help of a blog. At the end, add a call to go to stories / post / direct for useful information. nine0004
5. Fact + story + investigation
Start your post with an interesting fact that reveals some trait of your character or skill. Next, give a story or childhood memory that gave rise to this trait/skill in you. In conclusion, tell us how any of this helps you in your real life or business.
6. Link + Description
Formula for you if you have multiple Instagram accounts. Place in one post active links to all your pages with a brief description of each of them. nine0004
7. Hobby = business
The following template is for those who have turned their favorite hobby into a successful business. First ask the audience an engaging question about your hobby, then talk about your passion, and then share how your hobby grew into a blog or business.
8. I'm online + I'm offline
If your business operates not only on the Internet, tell about the services or range of goods in offline points, give the actual address of the store / office, and at the end invite people to visit the institution. Don't forget to post your current work schedule. nine0004
9. Before/before
This formula can be called one of the most selling. First place a call to read the post - this will attract the attention of readers. Next, show the result in the format was / became - tell us about the achievements for a certain period. And end the publication also with an appeal, but already use your services / products to achieve the same results.
10. Mini version
If you don't have time to think through long fascinating stories, briefly answer 3 simple questions about yourself: your name, what you do, what is your competitive advantage. nine0004
Life hack. Do not have time to respond to direct and lose potential customers? This problem can be solved with the help of Boss.direct. The chatbot will automatically respond to customers and offer a suitable product or service. To do this, you need to set up a personal account and create answer options for a dialogue with the user. Click and test -> boss.direct
post ideas with examples
We figured out the templates. But sometimes you want to stand out among competitors and declare yourself loudly, brightly, unusually. In this case, you will have to abandon ready-made formulas and figure out what to write in the first post on Instagram yourself. Therefore, I offer you 40 interesting ideas for inspiration that will make your self-presentation unique. nine0004
- For personal accounts
Let's start with the promotion of personal brands. I’ll tell you what users pay attention to when they get acquainted with the accounts behind which there is a specific person.
1. Description of activity. List what you do. And the more detailed, the better, so that each category of the target audience sees the desired service in your list.
2. Chronology of events . Make a calendar of memories, tell us how your personality has developed from year to year, mark the most significant events. nine0004
3. How did you get into the profession . Share the story of how you became a professional in your field, what professional courses and trainings you attended, what significant diplomas and certificates you have. This information will show the level of your expertise.
4. Hobbies . Tell us about your hobby, why you started doing this particular activity, how much time you devote to hobbies. This will show that you are a versatile person and do not get hung up on one thing, and such people cannot but be interesting. nine0004
5. Wishes. Share your innermost dreams with subscribers. Make a kind of wish board, it will perfectly reveal your personality. And it’s good if after some time a new post with a description of the embodied will appear in your feed.
6. Facts about yourself. Write the most interesting facts about you, your childhood or activities. Add 2-3 fictitious theses, and ask subscribers to guess where is the truth and where is the lie in the comments.
7. Description of personal qualities. nine0029 Tell us about your character traits that reveal you as a person or a blogger. As an option, add screenshots of messages from Direct to the carousel, which show what qualities other people appreciate in you.
8. Weaknesses . If you are running a personal blog, touch on a frank topic and talk about your shortcomings and weaknesses, share how you deal with them. Such content will evoke human emotions and make you support in the comments.
9. Childhood story . Recall a story from childhood that will describe you or explain why you chose this or that field of activity for yourself.
10. Value/utility . Tell the audience what benefits your blog brings, what user problems you can solve, what to talk about. Indicate the benefits for all categories of target audience at once in one post.
11. How similar are you? Invite subscribers to play an interesting game and figure out how similar you are. To do this, write 10 facts about yourself, each of which will have a conditional weight of 10%. Next, ask users to add up the percentages next to statements that fit their personality description. The final figure will be the similarity percentage. nine0004
Important. Promote your Instagram account and increase your reach in two clicks with Bridgit. The service will independently analyze competitors and set up all actions without your participation. Click and test for free -> Bridgit
12. Answers to questions. Collect in stories or comments under posts in your account the questions that subscribers most often ask about you or your activities. Take them as the basis of a dating post and answer each one. nine0004
13. Why did you start blogging . Remember when and why you started to maintain a profile, where the idea of creation came from, how the page was developed. In general, show behind the scenes of your blog.
14. Letters about you . Take part in the challenge "Letters about me". One of the participants will send you any word of their choice, and you will have to tell about yourself one fact for each letter of this word. Interactivity always attracts users, so the method will definitely come in. nine0004

in brief
Post-acquaintance is one of the most important tools in promoting your personal brand and business account on Instagram. Such a publication informs users more deeply about you and your activities, and accordingly increases the credibility of the profile and attracts subscribers to activity on the page.
Posting a post-acquaintance is ideal at the start of blog development, when subscribers reach a round number (1k, 5k, 10k, etc.) or after the launch of targeted advertising.
