How to hide someone on instagram

How to mute someone on Instagram without unfollowing them

Tired of scrolling past endless selfies and stay-at-home challenges but don’t want to risk the awkward consequences of unfollowing someone? Here’s how to mute someone on Instagram without them ever knowing you’ve done it.

If your uni mates are sharing one too many summer throwback from 2019, it can be tempting to reach for the unfollow button. Luckily, there’s another (more temporary) feature you can make use of: the mute button.

Instagram introduced its mute feature in May 2018. Like the mute option on other social media sites, Instagram’s mute button allows you to hide posts or stories belonging to specific accounts from appearing on your feed. Basically, the button lets you take a break from seeing another user’s content without the commitment (or consequences) of hitting the unfollow or block buttons.

“When you mute an account, you can still see posts on their profile page and get notified about comments or posts you’re tagged in. ” explains Instagram. “The accounts you mute will not be aware that you’ve muted them. You can always unmute an account to get their posts back in your feed.”

So, how do you mute someone on Instagram without them finding out?

Muting an account’s posts won’t block you from seeing them entirely. You’ll still be able to lurk on their profile page and be tagged under posts – you just won’t see any updates on your main feed.

How to mute someone’s posts on Instagram:

  • Open Instagram
  • Tap on the search icon
  • Enter the name of the account you’d like to mute in the search bar and tap on their profile
  • Tap ‘Following’
  • Tap ‘Mute’
  • Toggle ‘Posts’ on

How to mute Instagram Stories

Muting stories is a little different to muting posts. Because stories are considered more temporary than posts, some users will update them throughout the day – giving you all the more motive to hit that mute button when they get too much.

Muting an account’s story will send them to the end of your story feed, get rid of the colourful ring when they update their story and prevent their pics and videos from automatically playing when you tap through the stories you do follow.

You can use both of the above methods to mute a user’s story. Simply toggle ‘Stories’ on or tap ‘Mute Story’ to hide stories from your feed. You can also mute story’s directly from the story section of your feed.

How to mute stories on Instagram:

  • Open Instagram
  • Swipe across the top of your feed to find the account you’d like to mute
  • Tap and hold the account’s icon
  • Tap ‘Mute’
  • Tap ‘Mute Story’

Instagram Announces Mute Feature So You Can Hide Posts Without Unfollowing People

Instagram today announced the ability for you to mute accounts in your feed, so that you can hide posts from people or brands you may not want to see anymore without needing to unfollow them completely. Instagram says that the change is another update to make your feed "even more personalized to what matters to you. "

Account muting will be in the ellipsis menu at the top right of each post, and you can choose to "Mute Posts" or "Mute Posts and Story," to also prevent that account's stories from appearing at the top of the Instagram app. You can also mute accounts by pressing and holding on a story in the story tray, or from a user's profile.

After you mute someone you can still navigate to their profile page to look at their posts, and if you're tagged by them the app will still send you a push notification. Instagram says that people will not be made aware that you muted them, and you can unmute people whenever you like. Facebook has a similar muting feature, allowing users to unfollow other people without directly unfriending them.

Instagram is routinely working on new additions for its photo-sharing social network, with new digital health features like "Time Spent" usage and "You're All Caught Up" notifications said to be coming soon. In March, the company updated its feed algorithm to focus on newer posts, although many users frequently request an option to return to the simple, reverse chronological feed.

Instagram says that the mute feature will be rolling out to its users "over the coming weeks."

How to hide who I follow on Instagram

On the advice of your friends, you have finally signed up for Instagram , so now you can post photos and videos and share them with people all over the world. You are satisfied with your choice and in order to increase the number of subscribers, you yourself began to subscribe to different people. Subsequently, however, in an effort to maintain your privacy, you became concerned that other users might see the names of people you follow.

If this is the case and you are looking for an answer to the question, how to hide your following on Instagram ? You will be happy to know that in the next chapters of this guide, I will show you in detail what solutions you can use to do this, acting through the official social network app for Android and iOS, as well as from the web and through the Instagram app for Windows 10.

Before than to explain how to hide who you follow on Instagram , I have to give you a very important preliminary information. You should be aware that in the current state of things, there is no special feature that allows you to hide the people you follow. Don't worry : you can still succeed in your design by taking two alternative solutions: make your account private or block users who you want to make your data and content inaccessible to.

Activating private mode for your profile means that all the contents of your account (published photos and videos, as well as the names of people you follow and who follow you) can be viewed only your current subscribers or those you approve as new subscribers.

However, if you decide to block an individual on Instagram , not only will they no longer be able to see who you follow on the social network, but they will also no longer be able to find your account, view your profile and everything related to you , including your photos, videos and comments.

The choice of solution is up to you, your needs and preferences. In any case, do not worry: both options are completely reversible operations.

Activate the Instagram private profile mode

After reviewing the prerequisites, the following lines will show you how to boost your profile details through the Instagram app for Android or iOS, as well as through the web and the Windows 10 app.

If necessary, you can return to the Instagram section you just indicated and move the switch that you will find in the “My Account” item to the “OFF” position so that your profile becomes public again.

PC Activation

If you want to make your Instagram account private, you can also do it from the Internet or using the Windows 10 app. The procedures to be followed are the same in both cases.
