How to delete archived messages on whatsapp iphone
How to Delete Archived Chats in WhatsApp
As a popular chat app, WhatsApp has been on top of the market for quite some time now. Knowing your way around the app is pretty much essential. As simple as the app appears, however, it still hides certain features that you might not know about.
Here’s how to navigate smooth waters of WhatsApp and how to make the most out of it. Here are some essential WhatsApp tips and tricks that you should learn.
Archiving a Chat
If you’ve ever tried deleting a chat, you’ve noticed that the “delete” option doesn’t exist. Well, not in the conversation list screen. To archive a chat, go to the chats tab and either swipe left if you have an iOS device or hold the chat if you are an Android user. Then, select Archive. You’ll notice that this has removed the conversation from the list.
However, the deleted chat still exists. It’s in the Archived Chats section. To access this location on Android and iOS devices, it is located at the top of the list.
If you want to return the chat to the regular conversation list, select Unarchive. If you want to delete it/leave the conversation, hold the chat and select the Trash icon at the top and then Delete.
With group chats that you didn’t create but were a part of, you need to exit on the group first before you can delete the chat. To do this, hold the chat and tap the More option(three-dotted icon) at the top right then select Exit group. Once again, tap and hold the chat to select. You will notice that the delete option is now available. Select the Trash icon to permanently delete the chat.
Quoting
It’s easy to get lost inside a conversation, especially if we’re talking about a group chat. Instead of quoting and referring to a point in the chat, you can automatically “quote” the selected message. When a user taps this quote, it will take them to the exact location in the conversation.
To quote a message, swipe right or tap and hold the desired entry. Tap the left-facing arrow and type in your message. Then, tap the send arrow to the right.
Stop Media Auto-Download
WhatsApp comes with a smart option to automatically download every picture sent to you in your conversations. This neat feature, however, can turn into quite a nightmare, logistically. Also, it will take up space on your device, which is something that you’ll want to avoid. By default, this feature is on. Luckily, you can turn it off.
Go to Settings within the app and navigate to Storage and data. Then, you can select which files you want automatically downloaded and in under what conditions. That goes for Photo, Audio, Video, and Document files. With each of these, you can select whether you want them auto-downloaded while on Wi-Fi and Cellular data, while only on Wi-Fi, and Never.
You can also turn the auto-download on and off for individual chats. Just go to any conversation, select the chat name, navigate to Media visibility, and turn the feature on or off.
Add Someone to the Home Screen
If there is someone in your life who you talk to often via WhatsApp, you can speed things up by adding a quick-use shortcut on the Home screen. To do this, open the mentioned contact/group and either swipe left if you’re on iOS or tap and hold the chat if you’re on Android. Then, select More and then Add chat shortcut. The icon will appear on your device’s desktop.
Navigating WhatsApp
These useful tips will help you make the most out of your WhatsApp experience. They aren’t fancy and complicated, but they can help you navigate the popular chat app.

While iCloud will easily back up all your WhatsApp account data, you've got a secondary option to archive chats if you want to declutter your chat screens or store a copy of your chats beyond iCloud. For starters, we'll stick entirely within the app and go over how to archive chat conversations.
- Launch WhatsApp from your Home screen.
- Tap the Chats tab on the bottom menu.
- Swipe left on the conversation you want to archive
- Tap on Archive. It's the file box in the blue square to the right of the conversation.
Your entire conversation to that point will disappear from your active chats.

- Launch WhatsApp from your Home screen.
- Tap the Chats tab on the bottom menu.
- Swipe left on the chat you want to export
- Tap More

How to delete your WhatsApp Account
Once you've got everything backed up and exported that you want to keep, it's time to delete your WhatsApp account.
Note: If you're planning to migrate your WhatsApp account to a new iPhone, do not delete your account on the old phone first. Doing so will delete all backup data from your iCloud, which will prevent you from restoring your account on your new phone.
- Launch WhatsApp from your Home screen.
- Tap the Settings tab in the bottom right corner.
- Tap Account.
- Tap Delete My Account.
- Enter your phone number — it must be the same one you used to set up your WhatsApp account.
- Tap Delete My Account.
And that's it — your WhatsApp account has been deleted. If there comes a time where you want to create a new account after going through the delete process, you'll have to start from scratch and create a new WhatsApp account on your iPhone. When you delete your Whats App account data, that includes all iCloud backups as well, so don't do that if you were planning on transferring your account and data to a new phone.

How to delete a message in WhatsApp on iPhone: a proven method

How to delete a message in WhatsApp on iPhone if you accidentally wrote to the wrong chat, made a mistake when typing, or simply changed your mind about conveying information to other people? Previously, this was not possible, but at the end of 2017, the developers of the messenger began testing the "Delete for everyone" function.
Deleting a message for everyone
Let's simulate the situation: you sent a message and only after that you realized that you made a mistake in the chat. What to do? Highlight the message as soon as possible and erase it from the dialogue. A similar function has been working in Telegram for a long time. WhatsApp appreciated the convenience of the solution and also added the ability to delete a message for itself and for everyone. To erase a message:
- Open the dialog.
- Find the message. Click on it and hold your finger until an additional menu appears.
- Scroll the menu to the right and select the Delete option.
- Click on the trash can icon in the lower left corner.
- Specify the deletion mode - only on the device from which the message was sent, or for all recipients.
You can delete a message from personal and group chats, even if someone has time to read it. The recipient (or recipients in group chats) will see a notification that the message has been deleted, so get ready to explain what was written there and why you first sent it and then deleted it.
The only limitation of the function is that you can delete a message for everyone within 7 minutes after sending. After this time, only one item will remain: "Delete from me." On Android, deletion works the same way, so it doesn't matter which platform you're communicating from.
The main requirement is that the latest version of WhatsApp must be installed on the device, as this is a new feature that arrives in the application along with the update.
If you or the recipient are not using the latest version of the application, the feature will not work. If the message wasn't deleted for everyone, you won't receive a notification that the operation was successful.
We figured out how to delete a sent message in WhatsApp on iPhone, but there are still a few questions related to dialogues in the messenger. For example, how to completely clear the chat from messages. You need to understand that it will become clean only with you; the interlocutor will keep the correspondence in full, if he does not delete it himself.
Individual and group chats are cleared according to the same scheme:
- Open the Chats screen and swipe left on the conversation you want to clear.
- Tap More and select Clear.
- Select the cleaning mode: "Remove all" or "... all but favorites".
You can clear all available chats at the same time using a special function in the messenger settings.
- Open WhatsApp settings.
- Select the "Chats" section.
- Click Clear All Chats.
- Enter a phone number.
- Click Clear All Chats to confirm your intentions.
All messages from all chats will be deleted, but only on your phone. You can ask your interlocutors to follow a similar procedure, but until then, all correspondence will be stored on their devices.
Delete chats
Even conversations cleared of messages will be displayed in the messenger on the "Chats" screen. To remove them from there, you need to perform one more operation - deleting the chat. For an individual chat, the following instruction will work:
- Open the Chats screen.
- Find the dialog you want to remove. Run your fingers over it from right to left.
- Click "More", select "Delete Chat" and confirm your decision.
You can use a different procedure: open the "Chats" screen, click "Edit" in the upper left corner, select a chat and tap "Delete".
To get rid of a group chat, you must first leave it. For this:
- On the Chats screen, swipe from right to left on a conversation you no longer want.
- Click "More", select "Leave group" and confirm.
- Swipe left on the chat again, select Delete Group and confirm.
If you want to delete all chats at once, then you should know that this can only be done with individual conversations. Group chats after using the mass delete function will remain on the screen, and you can get rid of them only in the way described above.
