Why you can trust Pocket-lint

(Pocket-lint) - Telegram - the popular messaging app - is rolling out a host of new features in an update, and chief among those new features is the ability to apply custom sounds as your notification alert.

This new feature will allow you to use any sound as an alert, including any sounds or voice notes sent to you within a chat. It also means you can set custom sounds for each individual chat if you want to. So if you'd like to set a specific sound for messages from your close friends, family and loved ones, or a custom sound for a work chat, you can do so now.

There is a limit, however. The sound has to be less than five seconds in length, and under 300KB in size. Apart from that, there are no restrictions. In fact, you can try out some of Telegram's own ones in its Notification Sounds Telegram channel.

How to download a voice note/sound for notifications on iPhone

You can use any sound as an alert in Telegram, including voice notes sent within a chat. So if you have a chat with funny, short voice notes in it, the process to use that as a notification is pretty simple.

On iPhone:

  1. Open the chat with the sound in
  2. Tap and hold the voice note/sound you want to use
  3. From the popup menu that appears, choose 'Save for Notifications' from the pop-up menu

On Android:

  1. Open the chat containing the sound you want
  2. Tap in the space immediately next to a voice note/sound in a chat
  3. Select 'Save for Notifications' from the pop-up menu

How to set any sound as a custom notification

You might not want to use voice notes as a custom sound, but rather an individual audio file you have saved on your phone. And the good news is you can use that in the latest update too. Here's how to get to it.

On iPhone:

  1. Open a chat
  2. Tap the image of the person/group in the top right corner
  3. Tap 'Mute' beneath the image thumbnail
  4. Now select 'Customise' from the list
  5. Under 'Telegram Tones' choose any sound already added to the list or
  6. Or.. to add a new one, select 'Upload Sound' and find the sound you want in your iPhone files

On Android

  1. Open a chat
  2. Tap the profile image in the top left corner
  3. Select 'Notifications'
  4. Now tap 'Customise' from the pop-up menu
  5. Select 'Sound'
  6. Now choose from the 'Telegram tones' if you've already added some
  7. Or... tap 'Upload Sound' to add a new one

Other new features in the recent update include better translations for messages in other languages, improved picture-in-picture mode on Android and some enhancements to its bots.

Telegram just released a new update that brings some nice additions to the app. One of them is the ability to create your own notification tones, which means you can choose literally any audio to play when you receive a message – if you ever leave your iPhone out of silent mode. Here’s everything new.

Custom notification sounds work exactly as you think. You can create a custom alert from your favorite music or even memes. You just need to tap a short audio file or voice message in chat to instantly add it to your list of notification sounds.

Telegram tones are cross-platform and free. It currently supports audio files and voice messages under five seconds up to 300 kB in size.

Another great addition arriving on Telegram is the ability to custom mute durations. While previously users could only take a break for eight hours or two days, they can now pause notifications for a specific duration, lie the length of a nap or extended vacation.

Telegram users now need fewer taps to enable auto-delete in a chat and it’s now possible to see a small preview of the message being replied to when it’s forwarded.

There are also some other features, but another one that it’s important to highlight is bots. Telegram says it’s making a bot revolution. The company explain what’s so huge about the update:

Today we’re adding an entire new dimension, giving bot developers the tools to create infinitely flexible interfaces with JavaScript, one of the most popular programming languages in the world. With this, Telegram bots can completely replace any website.

You can take a look at all the new features in a blog post here. Which one is your favorite? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

How to change the notification sound in Telegram on iPhone

Our readers and I have long understood that Telegram is the best messenger on the market. There is even nothing to argue here, because not a single application of this kind can even get close to the brainchild of Pavel Durov. In the comments under our posts, you can often find messages like “I don’t use anything else, I transplanted the whole family to the Cart”. This happens thanks to new revolutionary features that appear here with enviable regularity. No, really, updates are released almost every month, and the developers do not limit themselves to the inscription "Bug fixes and improvements", but work in good conscience and add a lot of interesting things. More recently, Telegram has the ability to flexibly customize the sound of notifications, which I propose to talk about today in a little more detail.

Let's talk about how to set up notification sounds in Telegram.

How to set up the sound of notifications in Telegram on iPhone

The first and most important new feature is setting your own sound for notifications . Now each of you can put any sound on notifications in the Cart. This is done very simply:

  • Open Telegram on your iPhone.
  • Click on the Settings button at the bottom of the display, open the Notifications and sounds section.
  • Select the group you are interested in (Private chats, Groups, Channels), go to the Sound section.
  • Select a sound from the suggested ones, or click Upload sound and add any melody from the Files application.

This is how you can set the sound of notifications in the Cart in no time.

Why is this needed? Well, now you will be able to tell if you received a notification from the Alibaba Chest Telegram channel with an offer to buy a PowerBank for iPhone, or if your wife invites you to come down for dinner. You don’t even need to open a message to do this, cool!

You can set almost any melody. There are two restrictions here - the sound should not be longer than 5 seconds and weigh no more than 300 KB. In principle, there is a banal logic. After all, you won’t put a track for 2 minutes as a notification, right?

It is clear that finding the right melody as a notification sound is not easy. It used to be that we downloaded ringtones from the Internet, now the time is different! The Telegram team foresaw this and created a special channel where they post different melodies. Now there are not so many of them, but soon there will be direct fire.

And, of course, caring users immediately joined the party. Already now, if you score in the search Sounds for notifications , you can find a couple of interesting channels. Listen, rate, take notes!

How to find out who writes in Telegram

To find out who wrote to you in Telegram, you just need to set a separate notification sound for this user. Yes, in addition to setting the sound for chats, groups and channels, you can select sounds for individual people. I already appreciated this feature and put a separate melody on messages from my bosses and on notifications from my wife. Now, just like Pavlov's dog - I hear a ringing, I run to the phone.

To set the notification sound for a specific user , follow the simple instructions:

  • Open the Telegram chat you need on your iPhone.
  • Next, tap on the name of the interlocutor, press Sound, then Settings.
  • Select any sound from the System Sounds section or click Download sound in the Telegram Sounds section.

Do not forget that the sound can be adjusted for each user individually.

How to put a voice message on a Telegram notification

Well, the cherry on the cake is a voice message on any notification in the Telegram. To be honest, I have little idea who might need it, but readers in our Telegram chat have been asking us about this feature for a long time. We asked - we tell:

  • Open Telegram on your iPhone.
  • Next, go to the chat, where the desired voice is located.
  • Press and hold the message until the context menu appears.
  • In the pop-up menu, click the Save sound button.
  • After that, open the profile of the person you need, click "Sound" - "Settings" and select the saved melody in the Telegram Sounds section.

If you want to put a voice on the notification - put it!

I don't receive push notifications from Sberbank on iOS. What to do.

Setting the sound in notifications is far from the only new feature of the Cart. In addition to it, the developers seriously upgraded the automatic deletion of messages, added several animated emojis, worked on bots, and much more. All this was told by my colleague author AppleInsider.ru Ivan Gerasimov , be sure to read!

How to change the sound of notifications in Telegram?

Constant signals from numerous instant messengers not only annoy others, but also instill panic in you and make you grab your smartphone: what if there is something important there? And even if you are calm, you often cannot distinguish the sound of your Telegram notifications from the signal of a message in your colleague's Telegram. We will teach you how to change the default ringtone of the application or turn off the sound altogether.

How do I change the sound of notifications in chats?

  • Open the Telegram messenger.
  • In the upper left corner in the window of all chats, find the icon with three horizontal stripes. In the menu, select the Settings item (the icon in the form of a gear).
  • Find the line with the bell - Notification and sound. Positions will appear in front of you: notifications from chats (personal chats, groups, channels), calls (vibration, ringtone), message counter, in the application, events and more.
  • Select, for example, Private Chats. In the settings menu that opens, you can adjust the vibration and change the ringtone from the default one to one of the standard ones in your smartphone.
  • In the same way, you can customize Telegram for yourself and personalize the sound parameters in the groups and channels section. And also - to correct the specified settings for voice calls.
  • You can also reset all settings with the button at the very bottom of the window.

The version of the messenger on the desktop of the computer allows you to enable or disable pop-up notifications about messages, adjust the soundtrack and their placement on the screen.

How to turn off Telegram sound in general?

Imagine: you have about 20 people in your contacts who write something to you every day, you are subscribed to 10 channels and the same number of groups, and you also participate in a couple of group chats. Each new message is answered by the buzzing of your smartphone and an accompanying sound signal. Do not forget that notifications are also triggered by sound when a new contact from your phone book is registered in Telegram or an update from the developers occurs. The incessant buzzing and "ding" can piss anyone off!

You can turn off notifications in the application without turning off the sounds on the phone itself. How to do it?

  • Enter the Telegram application.
  • You need the menu button again - three parallel lines. Find the Settings item in the list, and in them - Notifications and sound.
  • You will see a menu already familiar to us with the parameters of all sounds in the messenger - in group conferences, personal correspondence, channel updates. Turn off the sounds that distract you. If you like to view the contents of Telegram groups in the evening, then notifications from them will only annoy you during the day. Disable them in the options. Moreover, some contacts can be separately configured so that they still receive alerts about new messages. Click on Add Exception and select the chat you want to hear.

By the way, there is another way to adjust the sound of a particular correspondence or channel - in the most open window. Click on the menu (three vertical dots). Here you can turn off the sound permanently or for a set time interval.

An open channel window has a button to turn off notifications. All updates will be silent, and the color of incoming messages will be gray.

Personal sound settings are handy if you don't want to set the whole phone to vibrate, but just want to protect yourself from annoying beeping, which can equally mean a letter from your boss and a fresh meme from a friend.
