At present, you are required to keep your phone connected to the internet to use WhatsApp, even if you are using it on your computer which has an internet connection. The new feature changes that. But instead of waiting for multi-device support to arrive on your phone, you can join the beta mode to experience it right away. As mentioned above, multi-device support on WhatsApp is currently in beta mode and is available to iOS and Android users for testing. Next, open the Linked devices section from the WhatsApp Settings on your phone, just as done above. The settings page will have an option of "Line a device" right in the middle.

Clicking on it will fire up a camera scanner on the app. Correspondingly, the website or the desktop app that you open on your laptop will show a QR code. Now just scan this code with the camera of your phone and your account will start running on the new device right away. As always, all the conversations through any of the linked (or primary) devices will be end-to-end encrypted.

WhatsApp multi-device support - things to keep in mind

There are certain limitations to running your WhatsApp account on linked devices for now. In case your primary device is not connected to the internet and you are using WhatsApp on a linked system, you will not be able to delete messages or conversations form your account.

In addition, when using the linked device, you will only be able to exchange messages with users who run the updated version of WhatsApp on their phones.

There are two important things to keep in mind for using the multi-device support. The first is that among the four linked devices, there can be no other smartphone. You can only run your WhatsApp account on one phone at a time. Others can be laptops or desktop computers. Though WhatsApp might extend this ability to include multiple phones in the time to come.

Another important note is that all linked devices will be disconnected form your WhatsApp account in case you fail to use your primary phone for over 14 days. This means that you will have to run WhatsApp on your phone at least once every couple of weeks.

We should reiterate that the feature is in beta mode as of now and may cause some problems with the app performance to users. In case that happens, users can opt out of the beta program through the app to get back on the regular version of WhatsApp that runs smoothly.

WhatsApp is basically designed to be used on Mobile Phones with an active Phone Number. However, it is also possible to Use WhatsApp on PC without Mobile Phone.

There are multiple ways to use WhatsApp on PC or Mac, each method has its own advantages and disadvantages as listed below.

1. Android SDK: Installing and setting up Android SDK takes time and uses a good amount of resources on your PC.

2. Android Emulators: Android Emulators like “BlueStacks” or “Andy” create an Android like environment on your PC, allowing you to run Android Apps, including WhatsApp.

3. Third Party Software: There are some third party programs that are designed to run WhatsApp on PC. However, we are unable to recommend any of them as we haven’t tried any of these programs.

4. WhatsApp Web: Using the Desktop or Web version of WhatsApp is the official way to Use WhatsApp on PC.

However, this method still requires you to have a smartphone with an active WhatsApp Account running on it.

In general, WhatsApp Web is not an independent or stand-alone application, it only manages to duplicate or Mirror your Mobile WhatsApp Account on the larger screen of your PC or Mac.

Hence, in this guide we are making use of an Android Emulator called ‘BlueStacks’ to independently run WhatsApp on PC, without the need to have an WhatsApp Account on your Mobile Phone.

1. Use WhatsApp On PC Without Phone Using BlueStacks

As mentioned above, BlueStacks creates a mobile phone like environment on your PC, which allows you to run Android Apps like WhatsApp on your PC.

So, the first step is to download & Install BlueStacks Android Emulator on your PC and then download and Install WhatsApp on your PC.

1. Open Chrome or any other web browser on your Computer and go to bluestacks.com.

2. Once you are on bluestacks.com, click on Download BlueStacks button to download BlueStacks on your computer.

3. After BlueStacks is downloaded, double-click on the downloaded file to begin the process of installing BlueStacks on your computer.

4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation of BlueStacks Application on your PC or Mac.

5. Once BlueStacks is installed, open the application by clicking on the BlueStacks icon.

6. After opening BlueStacks, you should be able to see WhatsApp on the list of popular Apps listed by BlueStacks. If not, you can search for WhatsApp by typing in the BlueStacks Search bar.

7. Once you are able to find WhatsApp, click on the Install button to download and Install WhatsApp on your Computer.

8. After WhatsApp is downloaded and Installed, open WhatsApp by clicking on the WhatsApp icon on your computer.

9. Next, WhatsApp will prompt you to enter your Phone number so that you can receive a verification Code from WhatsApp.

You can enter your Home Phone Number, in case you do not have a Mobile Phone Number.

10. Once you enter the Home Phone Number, you will see a verification failed message on your computer. Just click on the Call ME option.

11. You will get an Automated Message From WhatsApp on your Home Phone Number. Listen to the Message and note down the Verification Code.

12. Enter the Verification Code in the pop-up on your computer (See image below).

After entering the verification code, you will see your WhatsApp Account on your computer.

Start a Chat with any of your Contacts to see if WhatsApp is working properly on your computer without using a Mobile Phone.

  3. If you always have a mobile version of WhatsApp at hand with a connection to a mobile network or Wi-Fi, but the operating system does not support the desktop version, you can use the browser version of WhatsApp Web.

By default, Android emulator version 4.4.2 KitKat will be used, since this particular release is one of the most stable and is still supported by many applications, including WhatsApp.

Hello, dear readers of the KtoNaNovenkogo.ru blog. At one time, I wrote a comparative article about Viber and Vatsap, where I briefly described the functionality of these applications for mobile phones and held a vote on which program turned out better. However, it is not always convenient to use these applications from a mobile phone and I would like to be able to use, for example, WhatsApp on computer (it’s much faster to type, and indeed, since you’re sitting at a PC, there’s no need to hold a cell phone in your hands - I already wrote about this in an article about the Viber program for a computer).

In general, an online version of the program called WhatsApp Web has been available on the official website since the summer of 2016. This greatly simplifies the use of this program (what is it?) on a computer. Thus, today there are two main options for using WhatsApp on a PC - it's online, that is, through a browser (web version) or by installing a special WhatsAppSetup application from the official website to your computer. Let's quickly review them...


Things to consider before installing WhatsApp Web on a computer

To avoid problems during installation, consider a few basic important nuances:

  1. To use on a computer, you must have the WhatsApp application installed on your smartphone. It is not yet possible to use WhatsApp only on PC.
  2. When installing the application on the computer, the program on the phone must be updated (requires the latest version).
  3. Before installing on a PC, open the WhatsApp Web application on your smartphone.
  4. WhatsApp application can be installed only on the following operating systems: Windows 8, Windows 10, MAC. Operating systems Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 are not supported.

Personally, my installation of Vots App on a PC hung at the very beginning (on Windows 10). However, everything worked when I right-clicked on the WhatsAppSetup.exe file and selected the "Run as administrator" option:

After the installation process reaches the stage shown in the screenshot below, you will need to open WhatsApp on your smartphone and follow the instructions on this page (depending on the type of your mobile device - Android, iPhone or something else):

The most important thing here is the QR code located in the upper left corner (what is it?), because it is he who will allow you to synchronize data between the version of Vatsap on a computer and on a mobile phone.
