WhatsApp is an incredibly popular iPhone app, connecting more than a billion active members around the world every day. It lets you send messages to friends, or groups of friends, over Wi-Fi or 4G/5G and make savings on your phone bill. (Of course, you may end up paying for data if you go over your limit, so don’t go crazy!)
The sad thing is that WhatsApp is only available for iPhone. There isn’t a version of the app for the iPad (or iPod touch).
But don’t despair. In this tutorial, we show you how to use WhatsApp on the iPad using WhatsApp Web. This service connects to the WhatsApp account on your iPhone (or Android device) and forwards the messages on to your iPad, allowing you to send and receive messages, pictures and videos. It’s not quite native WhatsApp on the iPad, but it’s the next best thing.
WhatsApp for iPad release date
While right now there is no version of Whatsapp on the iPad, there could be one coming. In August 2021 news emerged that a Whatsapp app for iPad is coming soon with a project to bring the messaging app to iPad (and Android tablets) in development.
Then in January 2022 WhatsApp boss Will Cathcart acknowledged in an interview that people had been asking for an iPad app for a long time. Cathcart revealed that much of the infrastructure to develop an iPad app is already in place, but he made no immediate promises.
Since then reports have emerged suggesting that WhatsApp for iPad will be released with multi-device support. WABetaInfo tweeted in May 2022 that: “Multi-device 2.0 will let people link an additional mobile phone or tablet (WhatsApp for iPad/Android tablet) to the same WhatsApp account in the future.”

How to get WhatsApp on iPad
Follow these steps to get WhatsApp on an iPad:
- Open Safari on your iPad and head to web.whatsapp.com. As long as you’re on iPadOS 13 or later, this will load the correct desktop version of WhatsApp Web automatically.
- Those on iOS 12 and earlier will be taken to the WhatsApp home page instead. To solve this, tap and hold the refresh button to the right of the website address. After a second or two, tap the option that appears saying ‘Load desktop site’.
- You’ll now see the familiar WhatsApp Web interface, complete with a QR code to pair with your iPhone. Open the iPhone’s Settings, go to WhatsApp Web, and scan the code to pair the two devices.
- The page should now load and display all your recent WhatsApp messages, along with any media or voice notes.
Be aware that there are a few limitations when using this workaround. Most importantly, unlike when the service is used on a Mac or PC, notifications from web browsers aren’t supported on iOS/iPadOS. You won’t be notified of new messages.
Apart from that and a few small bugs, however, the service is pretty easy to use and a great alternative for WhatsApp users keen to access the service on iPad.
WhatsApp Web is a free and easy way to access the WhatsApp service on your iPad. Although you won’t get notifications (as you would when using the service on Mac or PC), it’s a great way to easily access your messages on a tablet.

How to Use WhatsApp on iPad
Despite strong competition from the likes of Telegram and Signal, WhatsApp remains the most popular mobile messaging platform by a mile, connecting over a billion active users around the world every day.
As a smartphone app, WhatsApp messages are principally exchanged between iPhones and Android phones, but WhatsApp is known to be developing an iPad app that would increase the number of active devices on the chat platform.
While the iPad app has yet to to launch, it is already possible to use WhatsApp on an iPad via the web without the iPhone associated with your account having to be connected to the internet. Keep reading to learn how it works.
WhatsApp on iPad
Previously, the WhatsApp mobile app was required to authenticate an account used on another device, such as a computer, and it used a QR code to link a user account to a web browser. While that initial link is still required, the connected phone that has the WhatsApp app on it is no longer required once the link has been made, which means you can continue to use WhatsApp on your iPad without needing your smartphone.
The following steps show you how to link your WhatsApp account to your iPad using the service's new Multi-Device support, currently in beta.
- Launch WhatsApp on your iPhone.
- Select Settings -> Linked Devices.
- Tap Multi-Device Beta, then tap the blue Join Beta button.
- Tap Back and select Link a Device on the previous screen.
- On your iPad, open Safari or another web browser and go to web. whatsapp.com, then scan the QR code that appears using your iPhone.
After following these steps your device will be linked to your WhatsApp account, and you'll be able to access WhatsApp on your iPad to send and receive messages and view chat threads, without needing to rely on your phone being connected to the internet.
Bear in mind that it's not currently possible to delete WhatsApp messages or conversation threads from your iPad. It's also worth noting that you won't get new message notifications on your iPad when you're not using the web app. On the plus side, personal calls and messages remain end-to-end encrypted across devices.
If you don't use your iPhone for over 14 days, your iPad will be disconnected. Lastly, given that the feature is still in beta, WhatsApp cautions that the performance and quality of its service may be affected, although happily, users can leave the beta at any time.

Can I use WhatsApp on my iPad?
WhatsApp is an incredibly common way to send messages to friends, and it looks like it's the app you need everywhere, not just on your phone. But there is no WhatsApp app for iPad. Is all hope lost?
Well, sort of. We've looked at several ways to access WhatsApp on iPad, but the suggested solutions are so terrible that they shouldn't be used in most cases. Here is such a situation. nine0003
Whatsapp problem
WhatsApp is a strange place among messaging apps. Instead of using one account on multiple devices, WhatsApp is tied to one phone, which is identified by your phone number. If you try to log in on another phone, your old one will be logged out.
RELATED: How to send and receive WhatsApp messages on your computer nine0017
Until recently, you could literally only use that one device to access WhatsApp. That is, until WhatsApp is launched. whatsapp web .
With WhatsApp Web, you can connect to your WhatsApp account through a browser or client for Windows and macOS. The smartphone on which your WhatsApp account is set up still needs to be online because all messages are sent through it, but it works very well. nine0003
How to use WhatsApp Web on iPad (and why it's not great)
With that in mind, I thought, one could just use WhatsApp Web from the iPad's web browser. Unfortunately, this comes with problems.
You can try pointing your iPad to web.whatsapp.com , but you will be taken to a site where you will be asked to install WhatsApp on your smartphone or access the web application from your computer.
nine0003
If you persist and force whatsapp to load desktop , you will get what looks like a web application.
Unfortunately, they are terrible to use. It's just not designed to work with a touch screen. You have to double tap on objects to select them, the scrolling is jagged and overall it's bad. If you needed to send a message, you could, but we cannot recommend this solution.
Whatsapp apps for iPad are just bad
I also went to the App Store to see if there were any third party apps that would help. Through a quick search, I found many apps that claimed to make WhatsApp available on the iPad. Most of them were free, so I started with them.
One was filled with advertisements and bad textbooks; this will allow me to access whatsapp messenger only if i pay 1.9$9 to unlock. The other one was filled with disgusting ads and crashed after a few seconds. The third one didn't even open.
Apparently these free apps have stopped working. Next I tried Messenger for WhatsApp Pro , purchase for $1. 99. This app… worked. Or at least it worked in the sense that it bundled the web app into an iOS wrapper and made it available on my iPad. The problem is that the web app on the iPad is terrible, as we have already discussed ... and pay 1.9$9 seems a bit silly for something I can get for free.
Again, you could technically use the app, but it was so frustrating that we can't recommend it.
So what is left then? WhatsApp can't be used on iPad right now. You can access it with a workaround, but it's terrible. We cannot in good faith recommend any way to do this well. If the situation changes in the future, we will update this guide. nine0003
WhatsApp has made a version for the iPad. When is the release?
I don't know about you, but I've always been very surprised by the fact that WhatsApp doesn't have a separate iPad version . Perhaps it was because of this that I started using Telegram, because I wanted to be able to quickly switch between devices. Then it seemed to me that WhatsApp was somehow deeply tied to the work of GSM, and therefore it could not work on tablets through which it was impossible to make calls. However, over time it became clear what was the real reason for this limitation. Fortunately, the developers have finally found a solution to this problem and are preparing to present it to us. nine0003

How to set up automatic deletion of photos in WhatsApp after the first viewing
Coming soon WhatsApp will officially work on the iPad . There is no doubt about this, since support for Apple branded tablets has already appeared in the latest beta version of the messenger. According to the developers, they managed to develop a new encryption technique in which they can synchronize between multiple devices, but at the same time remain protected from interception. Previously, this was not possible, and on a WhatsApp computer, could only work if a smartphone was connected to it.
WhatsApp for iPad
The arrival of a standalone WhatsApp application for iPad is part of a new developer initiative to cross-device use of the messenger. The first step was to drop the mandatory connection of the smartphone to the computer when using the web version. And now, apparently, it's time for the next stage. The developers figured out how to ensure the synchronization of encrypted messages, and now they will appear on all devices connected to the account. nine0003
To install WhatsApp on the iPad, you need to allow it to be done from the iPhone
Despite cross-device support, WhatsApp is still not quite the same as Telegram. To start using it on, say, an iPad, you'll have to create a special link for it, confirming that the second device is linked to the account. Only then will WhatsApp be able to run on the tablet. It turns out that the main thing in this bundle will still remain a smartphone, because all the changes will - albeit very indirectly - pass through it. nine0003
How to transfer WhatsApp to a new phone
For now, cross-device support is available through a separate beta testing program. This can be seen from the screenshots of users who have joined the trials. The images clearly state that the version of WhatsApp they are using is the version for testing cross-device support. So just download the beta of the messenger and start using it on the iPad, you will not succeed. To do this, you should at least be invited to a separate cohort of testers. nine0003

- Run it and distribute the necessary permissions;
