Why repost on Instagram?

Reposting on Instagram is a way to ride the momentum of conversations that are already getting lots of engagement among your followers and target audience. It’s a win for both you and the original poster as it garners engagement for you and widens their own exposure. Here are some of the specific benefits of reposting on Instagram:

  • Cultivate community: Acknowledging and uplifting others cultivates an inviting and engaged community around your brand.
  • Save time: This is basically pre-made content that you know will do well and that you can share in just a few steps.
  • Diversify content: Reposting can naturally deliver content from a range of perspectives and backgrounds that resonate with your audience.
  • Get new ideas: When your creative well is running dry, this is a great way to spark inspiration (although you can find dozens of ideas in our Social Media Marketing Lab).
  • Build trust: Sharing valuable content—and not just your own—shows your audience that you know them well and have their best interests (and not just your follower count)

What to repost on Instagram

Repost anything that sparks interest from your audience. Here’s who you can repost from:

  • Influencers: Share content from influencers in your industry that will bring value to your audience.
  • Complementary businesses: These are businesses that share your audience but aren’t competitors. For example, GoPro and Redbull.
  • Accounts that share your core values: For example, you might repost an inspiring quote or demonstration of leadership or great customer service.
  • Customers and followers: User-generated content is any post from your customers or audience that acknowledges your business. Posts with user-generated content yield a 5% higher conversion rate than non-UGC.

As you’ll see in each of the instructions below, you’ll always want to tag the original poster and mention them in your caption.

How to repost on Instagram: photo to Feed

The easiest way to repost Instagram photos to your Feed is the screenshot method.

Step 1: Screenshot the Instagram photo you want to repost.

Step 2: Tap the “new post” button in the top right corner of your Instagram app. When presented with the different content format options, choose “post.”

Step 3: Choose the image from your gallery.

Step 4: Use Instagram’s native cropping tool to resize the image. If you use a certain filter for your feed, you can add it to the photo (if you add filters using third-party apps, you’d edit the screenshot prior to clicking “new post”).

Step 5: Tag the original poster in the photo, then clearly credit them again in your Instagram caption.

Step 6: Tap “share” and wait for users to start engaging.

What better way to promote your Instagram than through other people? To share posts you’ve been tagged in, the original poster must have their account set to public and the Instagram Sharing Story feature enabled.

Step 1: Check your direct messages to find the Story you’ve been tagged in.

Step 2: After opening the message, you’ll see a button on the message that says “Add this to your Story.”

Step 3: At this point, you can edit the story by adding GIFs, stickers, drawings, or a typed message. Once you’re satisfied with your masterpiece, tap “next.”

Step 4: Now it’s time to choose who will see your Story. You can add it to your public Story, your Close Friends list, or DM it to a single account.

How to repost an Instagram Story you aren’t tagged in

To repost an Instagram story you aren’t tagged in, you’ll have to either screenshot or use a third-party app like Ming. This also only works if the original poster’s account is public.

Step 1: Find the video you want to repost.

Step 2: Tap the paper airplane button below the video (right next to the like and comment icons).

Step 3: A pop-up menu will appear. Tap “Add post to your Story.”

Step 2: Head to your camera roll to crop out the background. We just want the video content.

Step 3: Tap the “New Post” button in the top right corner of your Instagram app. When presented with the different content format options, choose “Reel”.

Step 4: Use Instagram’s native trimming tool to edit the video, making sure to cut out any footage from before and after the video started playing in your screen recording.

If you use a certain filter for your feed, you can add it to the video (if you add filters using third-party apps, you’d edit the screen recording prior to tapping “New Post”).

Step 5: Clearly credit the original poster in your caption copy.

Step 6: Tap “Share” and wait for users to start engaging.

More Instagram repost apps

Instagram repost apps aren’t one size fits all. Different apps have different features. Play around to see which one works best for your content strategy. In addition to the two already mentioned (Repost app from the App Store and Ming from the App Store), here are some Instagram repost apps we recommend you try out:

1. Reposta

Reposta on Google Play is super straightforward. It features a short list of instructions on the launch screen to guide you through the reposting process. Additionally, you get a few options for pasting a link, grabbing the link from Instagram, or sharing directly to the app.

2. Sepia Software’s Repost for Instagram

Repost for Instagram app for iPad gives you two interface options: compact for adjusting the image you’re reposting and expanded so you can see the image and caption all in one place. You can also adjust the color and position of the original poster’s watermark, which is pretty neat.

3. Repost for Instagram- Regrann

Regrann on Google Play is a solid option for users who repost often and want to try out four different reposting modes. You can save the repost to your camera roll or share directly to Instagram. There are a few “quick modes” that streamline the reposting process according to your preferences.

Now you can repost your heart out, seven different ways! But don’t get carried away—most of your content should be your own original content. And as always, be sure to credit the original poster!

What is Repost for Instagram and How Do You Use It?

Do you see posts on Instagram from customers you would like to share for your business? Or, have you ever gotten a little frustrated with the inability to share your finds with your audience? The Repost app for Instagram lets you do just that.

How Does the Repost App Work?

Just as Facebook allows you to share and Twitter lets you retweet, the Repost app helps you easily share Instagram posts that others have posted. According to The Small Business Blog, it’s a quick and simple way to use “user generated content” that can help your page perform better.  How? Here are the steps:

  1. Download the app.
  2. Open the Instagram app and locate the desired Instagram feed.
  3. Tap the post you wish to share.
4. Open the sharing options (the three dots) for the post.
  5. Click "Copy Share URL".
  6. Once successfully copied, you'll receive a confirmation.
  7. Open Repost again. The copied post will be there.
  8. Select the copied post.
  9. Tap Repost.
  10. Tap "Copy to Instagram". This will send you back the native Instagram app.
  11. From there, you can add your own captions and tag the photo's owner.
  12. Just hit "Share" and you're done.

The beauty of Repost is that it adds more functionality to the Instagram app while also allowing you the chance to give credit and the proper due to the original poster. Let's cover why exactly reposting is beneficial in the first place.

Reposting offers a chance to diversify your content and grow your Instagram Likes. You probably go through hours of creating and editing the text and photos that you post. Reposting lets you gain exposure for your brand while posting another's content. It also allows you to build in-roads with your own followers. Obviously, to succeed on Instagram businesses, you need active and engaging followers. And to be honest, to achieve this goal, you not only need to use an Instagram followers app, but also must keep consistent which can be done properly by reposting content.

For example, a customer-base that sees their content being reposted may feel their voice is being heard by your brand. Having their work posted on a larger platform can feel rewarding.

Sharing user-generated content from top instagram accounts allows you to harness the power of social media. On Instagram, followers are typically more engaged with a brand. Therefore, encourage your followers to create content and to use your brand hashtags.

Building with your followers offers an opportunity to expand your brand and follower base on a more personal level. Think about what resonates with today’s audience. Keep an eye on your Instagram dashboard to see their activities on your posts, to understand their needs and expectations.

With social media users placing a higher premium on influencers, having a customer post their honest, positive review of your products helps builds your brand’s credibility as well as trust among followers.

With an app like Repost, you can tap into the benefits of the Instagram platform for your marketing efforts!

When needing other web and app tools to help you improve your digital work and particularly content marketing work, a tool like BuzzSumo can help.  See this Buzzsumo review for more details.

How to repost on Instagram: +11 sure ways

You can repost stories, posts and IGTV videos on Instagram, but not all users know how to do it.

What will be in the article: we will talk about all the ways to share content on Instagram and describe each in detail.

We consider each way to repost on Instagram.

Repost a post through the application

To share someone else's post in your feed, you need to download the application (there is no such functionality inside Instagram yet).

There are several apps for reposting on iOS and Android, look for the phrase Repost Instagram in the name, you can't go wrong: Reposter for Instagram, Repost for Instagram Stories, QuickRepost for Instagram, Easy Repost for Instagram.

It is better to use applications and services that indicate the author's login in the post (or photo) that you share - this way you will not violate copyrights by posting someone else's content. As a last resort, you can always mark a person on Instagram manually, but it’s still better when there is a mark both in the photo and in the description.

Consider the example of the application Repost for Instagram - Regram.

This is an Android app, you can find it in the Google Play marketplace. There are similar apps on the iPhone, like 'Repost for Instagram'. All these services work by analogy, so the example with Reposta is suitable for any other application.

Open the application. We click on the Instagram icon in the upper right corner, and we are automatically transferred to Instagram. That is, if you are already authorized on Insta, you do not need to enter any additional logins and passwords. This is a plus for the application.

On Instagram, select the post you want to share. Click on the post menu (3 dots). In the window that opens, click on the "Copy link" item.

We go back to the Regram application, and it will automatically recognize the copied link. Click on the post.

A photo opens, the application automatically puts the author's login on it. You can change the location of the plate, for example, put it at the top of the photo. You can also completely remove the mention of the author, but we do not recommend doing this, as this is already considered theft. The plate settings are on the left under the photo.

The letters LDB at the bottom right allow you to change the color of the plate. L is white, D is black, and B allows you to customize the color from the proposed palette.

The letters SS at the top above the photo allow you to copy the description - you can use it in full, or you can use hashtags. Better completely. The application substitutes a hashtag and a mark - #Repost @author's login before the author's description.

In the application menu (3 dots) you can also look at the author's profile, open his Instagram post or replace the photo.

To repost, click on the button with two arrows (the first in the row). The button in the center saves the photo to the device, and the right button with the “Share” icon allows you to send the photo to other social networks, instant messengers and email (but this is not necessary, since this function is in Insta itself).

The application tells you how to insert a description with authorship. Choose where to send the post - to Direct (Chats), tape (Feed) or Stories (Stories).

If we send it to the feed, then we are transferred to the standard post settings (for example, you can apply a filter). At the stage of adding a description, paste the text copied in advance to the clipboard. You can also add your own description. Next, save the post as usual.

P.S. Recently, many of these applications do not post photos with a badge in the feed, although this badge is in the settings. But at the stage of publication, it disappears, and just a photo is posted. Perhaps this is due to changes in Instagram itself. Places in stories with a badge:

What to do if the post is received without a badge with authorship - you can save the photo to the gallery through the Regram application (the button in the center), and then post it on Instagram in the standard way, after saving the author's description to the clipboard exchange. It turns out a little more action, but without copyright infringement.

This is interesting: What to do if your content is stolen on Instagram

How to repost a post from Instagram to VK and other social networks

Such a repost is configured when posting. First, we add a photo (from the gallery or take it with a camera), then we edit it (for example, apply filters) and at the stage of adding a description, geotags and friend marks, at the bottom in the settings we find the “Where else to share” item. Move the slider to the ON position (in blue). You can share only in 4 social networks - Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Odnoklassniki. For the first time, you will need to link accounts from these social networks to Instagram. If you turn on this feature during publication, then announcements of new posts will be automatically posted on these social networks.

Repost a post in Direct

You can share a post in private messages without third-party applications. We find the post in the feed, click on the airplane icon below it, a list of contacts opens with whom we want to share the post. Click "Submit".

The second way is to open the post menu (3 dots in the upper right corner above the post), then "Share to". Among the methods, select "Chats" with the instagram icon. A list of contacts opens, click on the "Submit" button, and the post flies to Direct.

Repost a post in stories

Repost a post in stories in the same way as in Direct — click on the airplane icon under the post, a list of contacts opens, above them there will be a line “Add a post to your story”, click.

The story editor opens, the author's login will be indicated under the publication.

P.S. The method will not work if the author of the content has a private profile - then when you open the contact list, you will see the inscription "Closed account" with a lock icon and an explanation that the listed contacts will not be able to see the content of the author if they are not subscribed to it. In this case, you can save a post with a badge and the author's mark through the Regram application to the device's gallery (the first section describes how), and then add a picture to the story in the usual way and add a sticker with the post's author's mark. However, if the author of the content has closed his profile from strangers, he will probably not be happy that his content ended up in someone else's story, so it's best to get permission from the author to repost first.

Repost stories to post

Open a published story, click on the “More” icon with three dots. Select "Share to Post".

Editing a photo - cropping, adding filters (everything is the same as when adding a standard post). It turns out a regular post with a non-clickable author's login.

Repost stories in Direct

Open the published story, click on the "Share" icon (or 3 dots in the upper right corner, then "Share to"). The methods depend on whose story you are reposting - yours or someone else's.

In the window that opens, select Chats, then the desired contact from the list.

Similar actions allow you to send stories to instant messengers, social networks and mail. There is a separate button for reposting on Facebook in stories, located next to the "Share" button. You can turn on automatic reposting to Facebook in your privacy settings.

The second way, go to "More" and select "Send ..." - a list of contacts will open.

Repost story to story

To repost stories in stories, 3 conditions must be met:

  1. You must be noted in the story. You can't just repost other stories like that.
  2. You can only repost stories from open accounts.
  3. The author of the content must have permission to repost stories enabled in the settings.

Suppose all these conditions are met. Procedure:

As soon as you are tagged in your story, you will receive a notification. We click on it.

A story opens with an Add to Story button at the bottom. Click. The normal story editor opens. The username of the author will be indicated in the history.

How to allow other people to repost stories

Go to your account settings, section "Privacy". Find the "History" tab.

Scroll down to the "Reposts" item and switch the sliders to the ON position opposite the "Allow reposts in stories" and "Allow sharing" sub-items.

Repost video from IGTV

Repost to stories

To share a published video from IGTV to stories, open it and click on the airplane icon. Then, above the contacts, click on the item "Add video to your story."

Repost to Direct

To send a video to Direct, click on the 3 dots next to the airplane icon, select "Share to ...".

Then Chats.

Repost to Instagram feed

You can repost from IGTV to a post in the form of an announcement only when uploading a video to IGTV. We will not describe in detail the process of creating and publishing a video - instructions are in the article "How to add a video to IGTV". We only note that at the last stage of the publication of the video, where the title and description of the video are indicated, there is an item “Publish preview”. In it, you need to move the slider to the ON position, and then immediately after posting the announcement on IGTV, the minute announcement will appear in the feed.

P.S. To announce a video in the feed, it is worth preparing an attractive cover in advance, how to do this, read the article Cover for video in IGTV.

Repost live on IGTV

It's not really a repost, but it's also worth knowing how to save a live on Instagram on IGTV so that it doesn't disappear after 24 hours and can be reviewed.

Conclusion

Instagram reposts allow you to announce new posts and videos in the feed, as well as share other people's interesting publications.
