Part 1.Can You Import WhatsApp Chats From Zip File?
The answer to this will be YES & NO...
Yes, because it is possible, and no, because it doesn't work on every device as WhatsApp doesn't allow it officially.
The reason behind this is ZIP files that are imported in WhatsApp can be easily edited and used.
You can import WhatsApp chats from a zipfile by the methods mentioned in Part 2. But to do so, you need some prior technical knowledge and an Android Device.
But don't worry if you are not a techy, or if you own an iPhone, as I have explained a straightforward method in Part 3 to do it in one click.
Part 2. How to Import the Exported WhatsApp Chat from A ZIP File
Case 1. Import WhatsApp ZIP from Android to A New Android device
This method may not work for all android devices (as per my experience), but you canalways give it a try to make things work.
Prerequisites
- Both devices must be Android.
- Both devices must have the same version of Whatsapp.
- Both Devices must have the RAR app.
You can follow the steps mentioned below to export your WhatsApp chats from your old device in a zip file:
- 1Open WhatsApp on your old device. Navigate to Settings → Chats. Tap on Backup to Google Drive and select Never. Then tap on the green backup button and let it back up all your chats on your old device.
- 2Once the backup process is finished, open the RAR app and find a folder named Whatsapp in your internal storage. Tick the checkbox in front of it, and select the + icon located on the top.
- 3On the next screen, select the ZIP option and click OK. Let it finish. After Completion, transfer the backup of your chats to your new device.
Steps mentioned below will tell you how to restore WhatsApp chat from the zipfile in your new device:
- 1Open the RAR app and extract the ZIP file in the root of your internal storage.
- 2Open Whatsapp and complete the signup process by entering your mobile number. After completion, you will be asked to restore chats from local backup. Click on Restore.
Let the process finish, and hopefully, all your chats will be restored from your old device to the new one.

- 2After selecting the relevant options on both devices, the new device will generate a QR code that you have to scan with your old device.
- 3After Scanning, both of your devices will be connected. Now choose the data you wish to transfer from your old device to your new one. (In our case, we will select Whatsapp Chat History, but you can share any data that you wish.)

The standard methods of creating WhatsApp backups are to use the built-in functions: iCloud and Google Drive on iOS and Android respectively. However, these cannot be read directly from another device unless you restore from these backups first, but that may mean losing your WhatsApp data and overwriting newer chats with older ones. Due to this, you may have created a backup and stored it as a ZIP file to restore from this backup to your phone at a future date. So, can you import WhatsApp chats from ZIP file?
- Part 1: Can We Import the Exported WhatsApp Chat ZIP Files?
- Part 2: Better Ways to Export and Import WhatsApp Chats
- Part 3: Other FAQs about Export/Import WhatsApp Chats from ZIP Files
- Question 1. How to read exported chat zip file with media?
- Question 2. How can I convert a WhatsApp exported .text file as a real chat?
- Question 3. Can I restore WhatsApp chats from .zip file from Google Drive?
Part 1: Can We Import the Exported WhatsApp Chat ZIP Files?
The short answer to this question is, no. You cannot export a ZIP file from a WhatsApp chat and then import it as a backup or in any other way. That is because WhatsApp only supports certain methods of exportation and importation. Although they allow you to export your chats, these cannot then be used as backups, with one of the reasons being they can easily be modified, and hence false data can be passed as real.
The only method built-in to WhatsApp to restore from a backup is by using a Google Drive backup for Android or an iCloud one for iOS. Even transferring from one operating system to the other doesn’t let you restore from a backup. However, this article will show you the best ways you can create WhatsApp backups and restore from them, no matter the device you are using.
Part 2: Better Ways to Export and Import WhatsApp Chats
Put simply, the best way to export and import WhatsApp chats to your phone is by using the excellent iTransor for WhatsApp program. This is a program that has a variety of functions built into it which let you perform various tasks for WhatsApp management, such as creating and restoring from backups, exporting chats in different file formats and transferring your WhatsApp information from one device to another.
With a 100% success rate, any task the program lets you do will be done almost completely automatically and safely. Furthermore, with the clean and easy to use user interface, you will enjoy the experience of using the program. Once you have downloaded and installed the program on your computer (we recommend the full version):
Step 1.Connect your phone to your PC via a USB cable.
Step 2.Launch the iTransor program and select the "Backup WhatsApp on Devices" feature.
Step 3.Make a backup with the program first (FREE).
Step 4.Then select the "Restore/Export WhatsApp Backup" feature and choose the chats you would like to export, along with the content within these chats.
Step 5.Select your file format (we highly suggest you pick HTML) and click export.
That’s all you need to do to export chats to an HTML file, which can then be viewed from other devices too.
If later you would like to import this back to your phone, even to another phone using a different operating system, you can also do this just as easily using the same program:
Step 1.Choose the "Restore/Export WhatsApp Backup" feature.
Step 2.Connect your device to the computer and click on "Restore".
For a complete detailed guide, you can go to our website and look through the different sections.
Part 3: Other FAQs about Export/Import WhatsApp Chats from ZIP Files
Following are some other frequently asked questions about export and import WhatsApp chats from Zip files.
Question 1. How to read exported chat zip file with media?
This is quite easy. All you have to do is extract the files saved in your exported file, such as the text file. This can be done by using Windows, Mac OS or third-party software, such as 7zip. Once this is done, you just need to open the chat.
But if what you mean is to read the text files exported with media files in it, the built-on export chat function cannot do. I recommend you the preview function of iTransor for WhatsApp, it’s totally free and you can read the chat with media files, just like the real chats.
Question 2. How can I convert a WhatsApp exported .text file as a real chat?
With the aforementioned iTransor for WhatsApp program, you can open the exported text file. However, the excellent thing about using the iTransor for WhatsApp application is that when you open the chat file, you can view it as a real chat (with features such as chat bubbles). This can be especially useful in group chats because it allows you to distinguish who sent which message without having to constantly look for their name within the chat file. Also, the chat is easier and more pleasant to read when it is in the format of a real chat.
On the other hand, what you cannot do is import this exported chat as a backup. That’s due to the reasons mentioned previously, where you have to either use the iTransor tools or official WhatsApp methods when creating and restoring from a backup.
Question 3. Can I restore WhatsApp chats from .zip file from Google Drive?
If you have created this .zip file on an iPhone, then you cannot restore the .zip file on your Android or even iPhone. This will be available for you to read (check question 1) but you cannot import it back into WhatsApp.
But, if you are looking for a way to transfer your WhatsApp from your iPhone to Android or vice versa, then we highly suggest you check out the iTransor for WhatsApp program. This demonstrates the flexibility of the program; it lets you do a lot of the things the built-in features of WhatsApp don’t allow.
To transfer all your WhatsApp data from one phone to another, make sure you have:
- Installed WhatsApp on both phones.
- Have access to data transfer cables for both phones.
Once you have done this:
Step 1.Connect both your phones to your PC.
Step 2.Choose the "Transfer WhatsApp Between Devices" option. Make sure you select the correct source and destination devices. (The source device is the old device and the destination device is the one you will be transferring the data to.)
Step 3.Click on the "Transfer" button and wait until all your data has been moved to your destination phone.
Step 4.Once the data has been transferred, you will be notified, and you will then be able to safely disconnect your devices.

How to unzip a WhatsApp chat on Android and iPhone: step-by-step instructions
If the archive is wound in external storage - Google Drive or iCloud, you will need to transfer to these services and delete the corresponding files. If the save is organized on an SD card or internal memory of the device, then you need to go to the folder /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases and delete all the files contained there. If the archive was not saved on the SD card, then the transition will be to the folder: WhatsApp / Databases. This can be useful if, for example, you need to completely reinstall WhatsApp or clear the device's memory of an archive that is too bloated.
When working with the Votsap program, we sometimes need to clear it of unnecessary information. So, from our article you can learn how to delete an archive in WhatsApp, as well as how to delete unwanted messages from the phone’s memory.
If, for some reason, you have a desire to clear the archive in whatsapp, then this is quite simple. You can delete unwanted messages directly through the application, or you can delete the archive in WhatsApp by working with the device's memory and SD card.
It must be remembered that it is impossible to restore deleted data again, except in cases where they were backed up to a device or cloud storage.
To find out where WhatsApp messages are stored, read our other article.
What does it mean to archive a chat in WhatsApp
Archiving conversations is an incredibly useful and convenient feature. It allows the user to slightly (and sometimes significantly) unload his list of chats and at the same time not lose important information for him.
However, despite this usefulness of the function, not all users know what it means to archive a chat in WhatsApp. Let's try to figure it out.
If you communicate a lot and often via WhatsApp, then very soon your chat list will be full of various correspondence. Moreover, most likely, among the current correspondence that you are currently conducting, there will be at least a few old correspondence that you do not delete due to the fact that they store some information or file that is important to you. By archiving such a chat, you will transfer it to virtual storage, from where you can retrieve it at any time if necessary.
Correspondence data will be stored separately and will not constantly disturb you. In addition, due to the fact that they will be stored in the cloud, they will no longer take up space on your phone. If suddenly you accidentally delete the application, then all your saved correspondence will remain in place.
When you reinstall the application, you can easily get everything you need from the archive. Given that we are talking about chats in which something important is recorded, such an extra precaution does not hurt even if you do not have many of them.
How to delete a chat from the WhatsApp archive through the application?
Chats are both single and group.
To delete correspondence with one person, do the following:
- Go to the archive, drag your finger over the chat you want to delete
- Click on the ellipsis "More", open the menu, click "Delete" or the urn icon.
You can find out how WhatsApp correspondence is tracked by reading our other article.
If you decide to get rid of the group chat, you can do it like this:
- Go to the archive, find the chat you want to clear, swipe left
- When the menu appears, tap the ellipsis, then "leave chat".
- Now click on the same conversation again until the "Delete" option appears. Touch him.
You can delete all correspondence files from the WhatsApp application in this way:
- In the application menu, select "Settings".
- Open Chats & Calls.
- Click on "Delete all chats".
You can understand why the time of the last visit to WhatsApp is not visible by reading our other article.
Reserving correspondence using E-mail
A similar method only allows you to save information that can then be opened in the mail at the required time and familiarize yourself with the contents. How to recover is it possible to recover data on whatsapp at all?????. How to recover message history and files in whatsapp?????? On one phone. Therefore, it is essentially impossible to use this method to reanimate the program with all the data.
To implement this method, take the following actions:
- Select the principal contact you are interested in in the application and go to the options menu;
- Select the option to send the chat by mail;
- Enter your E-mail address in the form, after that the selected contact with the entire history of WhatsApp correspondence will be moved to your mailbox.
This method will allow you to print each contact as needed in a separate document, which can be very useful from time to time.
Is it possible to clear the correspondence in the cloud storage?
If you have set up automatic backups to your iCloud account (for iPhone) or Google Drive (for Android), you can delete the files saved there by logging into your account and searching for the corresponding files in the cloud.
Not many people know how to delete an archive in whatsapp, but many users periodically need to do this. Correspondences and files are not stored on the company's servers, but are stored directly on users' phones or in cloud storage. If your phone memory is full and you want to clear it of information from the messenger, this article will show you how to do it.
Cleaning the WhatsApp printout
There is no anonymity among the popular instant messengers, they store the history of correspondence, calls or SMS, and even information from hidden chats on their servers. Do not believe those who say that making WhatsApp texts is unrealistic. During the breakthrough of digital technologies, getting the desired correspondence of your own or someone else's number is not particularly difficult, both for the customer and the contractor.
Experts warn that anyone, even unfamiliar people, can get access to information. We also provide such services, so WhatsApp needs to be cleaned regularly. Users cannot delete WhatsApp printouts from servers on their own or from interlocutors on their own. There are no such functions in the interface and you will not be able to delete this history with one click.
Regular tools for deleting the archive
You can permanently delete messages from a separate dialog in different ways.
Open the application, go to settings, item “Chats”, line “Chat History”. Select the line “Delete all chats” - this will permanently erase all information of dialogs from your phone;
- Open dialogs, select the one you need, hold it down and click on the “Delete” icon;
- You can do the same with messages in each chat - delete them individually or in groups.
- To leave the group, click "delete" in the group menu - you will no longer receive messages from it and be stored on your device.
How to unarchive a WhatsApp group
How to work with group conversations in WhatsApp is no different from managing private conversations with one interlocutor. Therefore, if you need to extract such a chat from the archive, it is enough to follow the scheme given in the previous section.
If there is a need to return several conversations from the archive on a gadget using Android, you need to select them sequentially with a long press, and then click the "From the archive" icon.
To extract all conversations at the same time:
- select any 1 conversation;
- click on the ellipsis in the upper right corner of the screen;
- in the menu that appears, click on "Select All";
- click on the "From the archive" icon.
Similar actions are available on the iPhone.
Manual deletion of the data archive
When saving a backup on a phone or removable drive, find the Databases folder in the WhatsApp folder - all saves for each period of using WhatsApp services will be stored here. Erase the files for the period you are interested in, sorting the files by date, or completely clear it of the contents and restart the phone.
—>
Related articles And sometimes it becomes really a problem for a beginner. However, there is nothing complicated about this. WhatsApp does not save conversations on central servers, but does it directly on the device on which it is currently being used.
The message archive can be cleared in several ways at once:
- by WhatsApp;
- manually.
It is important to remember that after deletion, the entire archive is erased from the device forever and it will be impossible to restore it.
How WhatsApp message history is deleted
WhatsApp correspondence (sms and calls), as well as erroneously uploaded photos or video files, are deleted from the main server of the program, and not from the user's device. This fully guarantees you that the deleted history will never be received and read by anyone, even by people with special equipment, because old messages or pictures cannot be restored.
You can order a partial cleaning - this is the removal of specific entries from printouts, and not all messages for a certain period. But technically, this is a more painstaking task than a total cleaning, since the performer will work only with selective data, carefully checking the date, time, and phone numbers requested by the client.
To order a partial cleaning, add in the comments to it which numbers and dates need to be cleaned. Selective cleaning services cost the same.

Deleting single and group messages is somewhat different from each other. To delete a single chat:

Don't forget that even hidden conversations, individual and group, reappear on the main screen when the list of messages in them is updated - that is, if someone writes to this chat.

Deleting archives manually
If the archive is stored in external storage - Google Drive or iCloud, you will need to enter these services and delete the corresponding files. If the save is organized on an SD card or internal memory of the device, then you need to go to the /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases folder and delete all the files contained there. If the archive was not saved on the SD card, then the transition will be to the folder: WhatsApp / Databases. This can be useful if, for example, you need to completely reinstall WhatsApp or clear the device's memory of an archive that is too bloated.
WhatsApp archive plays an important role. It is designed to save important messages in the device's memory. The archive cannot be read by those who do not have direct access to the account, which increases the security of using the messenger. Before deleting a WhatsApp backup, you should figure out where it is stored and how to make it.
What does it mean
It's very simple. A large amount of information clutters the service and makes it inconvenient to use. In the meantime, you don't want to get rid of valuable data, assuming it will be useful in the future. For such cases, archiving is provided. In a few clicks, what “got under your feet” is put on a virtual shelf, from where it can be removed at any time.
Important: the described option is not the creation of backup files and not a way to clear the messenger. Its purpose is to hide data for a certain time with the possibility of their subsequent recovery.
Message archive cannot be sent to other users by mail. For these purposes, there is a function "Sending to e-mail".
Archive location
The backup is stored on the application servers for a short time. When you set the appropriate settings, the archive remains in the phone's memory or in the cloud storage. Most often, the archive location can be found by going to the SD card memory. Here you need to open the WhatsApp folder. Here the necessary data will be located
To save important correspondence, you need to select the desired dialogue and make a long tap on it. As a result, several commands will appear before the user. Among them, you must select "Archive chat" .
How to get a blacklisted contact back
The unblocked contact will be available on WhatsApp again.
To restore the ability to communicate with a person previously blacklisted, you need to perform 7 steps:
- On the main screen of the application in the top menu, click the "Ellipsis" icon.
- Select "Settings" from the drop-down list.
- Go to the "Account" section.
- Click on "Privacy".
- Scroll down the menu that appears to the very bottom and click on "Blocked".
- In the list of blacklisted contacts, find the one you need and click on it.
- Click on the message "Unblock "contact name"" that appears.
When working with the iPhone, the same algorithm of actions is used, insignificant differences come down to the difference in the names of the menu sections.
After that, the dialogue with this subscriber will appear in the list on the main screen of WhatsApp. And this person will again have the opportunity to get in touch using this messenger.

If you have deleted WhatsApp conversations, you can restore them in a few steps. We tell you what you can do on an iPhone and an Android smartphone.
In the article we consider proven methods of information recovery. Click on the link to go directly to the point of interest.
- With third party software
- Using Google
- From backup
- Not tied to Google
- On iPhone via iCloud
Restoring chat using third-party software
One of the reliable and easy ways to restore information in WhatsApp is to use third-party software. But it often requires rooting, and rooting a smartphone is quite risky (read why). Therefore, it is worth looking for programs that can work with standard firmware. For example, Tenorshare UltData.
The program works simply: you need to run it and click the "Restore WhatsApp Data" button.
Then connect the smartphone to the computer with a cable. Before doing this, it is advisable to make a backup copy of messages - just in case.
Although root rights are not required, you need to open access to the developer menu. This is safe (if you do not change the parameters manually). Usually you need to go along the path "Settings> System> About phone" and press your finger on "Build number" until a message appears about entering the mode.
If you have not created a backup, the program will offer to do it yourself. After a few steps, you will see deleted messages and pictures - you can restore them by clicking on the appropriate button.
In the same way, you can restore correspondence on iPhone / iPad, including using a backup copy on iCloud. To do this, you will need to download Ultdata iOS.
How to restore your WhatsApp history with Google
Perhaps the easiest way to save your WhatsApp chat history is to automatically create a cloud backup. All you need is a Google account and access to Google Drive. If you haven't linked the cloud to WhatsApp yet, follow these steps:
- Open WhatsApp and select "Settings" by clicking on the three dots in the top right corner.
- Now select "Chats" - "Backup Chats".
- In the Google Account section, enter your Google Drive account.
- Also in the settings you can set how parts will be uploaded to the cloud: monthly, weekly, daily, when you click the "Backup" button or never.
- You can also set whether to download backups only when you are in Wi-Fi coverage area or via mobile data.
Now in case of loss of data or smartphone, you can easily reinstall WhatsApp and start recovery via Google Drive. To do this, follow the recovery instructions when setting up WhatsApp.
Restoring WhatsApp chat history on Android
If you have deleted some or all of your chat history, you can quickly restore it.
Delete WhatsApp from your smartphone. When reinstalling, click the "Restore" option. The latest backup copy of the messenger data will be loaded. However, do not forget that messages received or sent during the current day will not be completely restored.

How to recover deleted messages in WhatsApp
Restoring messages without linking to Google
If you have not linked a Google account to create a backup, you have a second option. To do this, the correspondence should not be older than 7 days - any message deleted before that will not be restored.
- Delete WhatsApp.
- You can find chat history in Android using the file manager. To do this, go to the "/sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases" section. Don't forget to make a copy of the "msgstore.db. crypt7" so as not to lose new correspondence.
- Individual backups are named as follows: "msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.db.crypt7". Select the copy you need and rename the file with it to "msgstore.db.crypt7".
- Reinstall WhatsApp and select the "Restore" option.
- If you want to replay actual conversations, repeat the process with a backup copy of the "msgstore.db.crypt7" file.
How to restore WhatsApp history on iPhone via iCloud
To restore chat history on your iPhone, the "Documents and data" section must be activated in iCloud settings. In the WhatsApp menu under "Chats Backup" you can see the time when the last copy was made. To restore chats, simply uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp. Use the same phone number as before and follow the instructions in the app itself.
