Even if you do not have a Backup of WhatsApp on Google Drive, you can still Restore WhatsApp from Local Backup on Android Phone and recover all your WhatsApp Chats and Photos.

While the easiest way to Recover WhatsApp Chats is to Restore WhatsApp from Google Drive, it is also possible to Restore WhatsApp using the Local Backup File located on your Android Phone.

This situation usually arises when users end up deleting a glitchy WhatsApp install, without having a WhatsApp Backup on Google Drive.

Another reason is when users prefer making an encrypted WhatsApp Local Backup, instead of having a non-encrypted backup on Google Drive.

1. Backup WhatsApp to Internal Storage

If WhatsApp is still installed and working, you can follow the steps below to prepare the most recent Backup of WhatsApp on your Android Phone (If not, move to step#3 below).

1. Open WhatsApp > tap on 3-dots menu icon and select Settings in the drop-down menu.

2. From the Settings screen, navigate to Chats > Chat Backup > Back up to Google Drive option.

3. On the pop-up, select Never option to disable WhatsApp Backup to Google Drive.

4.Back on Chat Backup screen, tap on the Back Up button.

5. Wait for the Backup process to be competed.

2. Restore WhatsApp Using Local Backup

Now, that you have the latest Backup of WhatsApp on your Phone, you can follow the steps below to Restore WhatsApp from Local Backup.

1. Go to Settings > Apps > WhatsApp > tap on Uninstall to Delete WhatsApp on your Android Phone.

2. Next, open Google Play Store > Download WhatsApp on your Android Phone.

3. Open WhatsApp on your Android Phone and tap on Agree & Continue.

4. On the next screen, select Country, enter Phone Number and tap on Next.

5. If prompted, verify your Phone Number by entering the 6-digit code sent your Phone Number.

Once the Phone Number is verified, WhatsApp will automatically detect the presence of an existing Backup File on your device.

6. On the next screen, tap on the Restore button to Restore all your WhatsApp Chats.

7. Wait for the Restore Process to be completed.

Once the Restore Process is completed, you should be able to access all your WhatsApp Chats and Photos.

3. Restore WhatsApp from a Previous Local Backup

If you had deleted WhatsApp without making a Backup, you should still be able to Restore WhatsApp using a previous Backup of WhatsApp on your Android Phone.

1. Open My Files App on your Android Phone.

2. On the next screen, tap on Internal Storage or SD Card (If your Phone has SD Card).

3. Next, navigate to WhatsApp > Databases Folder.

4. In the Databases Folder, see if you can find a WhatsApp Backup File without date. If you cannot, select the most recent WhatsApp Backup File and remove its Date.

For example, if the file is in msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 format > tap on More > Rename and rename the File to “msgstore.db.crypt12“.

Note: Backup extension may vary (crypt 10, crypt 11 and so on). Just remove the date and do not change the number of the crypt extension.

5. After Renaming WhatsApp Backup File, download WhatsApp from Google Play Store and follow steps (3 to 7) as provided above to Restore WhatsApp from Local Backup.

Do you have critical official chats on your WhatsApp, but you are about to switch your phone and are looking for WhatsApp Backup?

Well, make it a point to note that how to restore WhatsApp Backup without uninstalling sounds a kind of tricky and impossible to implement. The WhatsApp itself has provided some guidelines over the concerned subject in its FAQ section. Therefore, we should first discuss what WhatsApp says and then talk about an efficient alternative to do the entire task super quickly without reading such lengthy guidelines and following a long list of steps.

We tried to create guidelines on how to restore WhatsApp Backup without uninstalling on Android and iPhone quite easy to understand in the sections given below.

Part 1: Can I restore WhatsApp Backup without uninstalling?

There are no chances to guide you on WhatsApp Backup restoration after its uninstalling. It is because the step is against the system's performance, and so you can’t even think of its implementation in reality.

However, you can follow some simple steps on restoring your chat history in WhatsApp Android and WhatsApp iPhone.

Restore WhatsApp Backup in Android

Almost two ways are suggested by WhatsApp guidelines to restore data and ‘chat history’ to the new phone. These two ways are local Backup and Google Drive.

Use Google Drive Backup to restore WhatsApp Backup Android.

For its successful implementation, you have to use the same Google account and phone number that you've used earlier to create a backup.

Step 1: Reinstall WhatsApp

After you have uninstalled the WhatsApp, simply reinstall it over the new device from the same official platform.

Step 2: Verify details

After reinstallation, you have to open WhatsApp and verify details such as Contact Number, etc.

Step 3: Start restoring

Automatically, a prompt will open in the main screen window where you have to click the Restore button. It will then start restoring chats and media from Google Drive.

Step 4: Proceed with Next

The restoration process will take your few minutes to get complete. After that, you have to tap the Next button. Once initialization got complete, the chats will display over the phone.

Step 5: Restore begins

After the above steps are over, WhatsApp will automatically start restoring your Backup from Google Drive. All the media files will also get restored after chat history backup.

Note: In case you don’t have prior installs from Google Drive, all your backup media will get automatically restored by WhatsApp via local backup.

Use Local Backup to restore WhatsApp Backup Android

To use the local backup facility for restoration, you have to transfer media files to a new device via the file explorer, computer, or SD card. Just keep in mind the following points.

After you have maintained WhatsApp local backup, it’s much easy to restore media files and chat history as follows.

Step 1: Launch File Manager App

Take WhatsApp backup on local storage and access it by installing any File Manager or File Explorer app on your device.

Step 2: Browse device’s storage

Go to your device’s storage and click WhatsApp. Then go to Databases or SD card> WhatsApp> Databases. It is the location where your Backup got saved.

Step 3: Rename backup file

Now, you should rename this backup file for easy accessibility. Well, it’s optional to do so. If you opt for it, you can go to msgstore.db.crypt12 from msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12. Don’t change its crypt extension number.

Step 4: Reinstall WhatsApp

If you have WhatsApp already installed, simply uninstall and reinstall it via Google Play Store.

Step 5: Start Restore

After you’re over with reinstalling WhatsApp, simply verify your contact details, as was the case in Google Drive backup process. The app will take just a few seconds to determine if any existing backups are available. Click the Restore button and wait some time to get all the data retrieved back from saved files.

Hopefully, you got our words on how to restore WhatsApp Backup without uninstalling Android and its impossible application.

Use iCloud Backup to restore WhatsApp Backup iPhone

To use it, you must know the following points first.

  • • First of all, you should see that iCloud backup already exists by going through WhatsApp> Settings> Chat> Chat Backup.
  • • Check the performance of the last Backup. Then, uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp from App Store.
  • • Simply follow on-screen prompts after verifying the contact number. In this way, you can restore chat history.

Note: Go through the following points before you go and restore chat history via iCloud.

  • • First of all, sign in with Apple ID, access iCloud, and turn on iCloud Drive.
  • • Then, you must have enough space on both your iPhone and iCloud. It should be almost 2.05 times the iCloud account than Backup’s actual size.
  • • You must use the same phone number for both restoration and Backup because you cannot use another WhatsApp account.

So, this is all on how to restore WhatsApp Backup without uninstalling iPhone and its impractical scenario.

How to Restore WhatsApp Chat History on Android - Tutorial

You can back up your WhatsApp data using Google Drive or local backup. Local backups are created automatically every day at 2 am and saved as a file on your phone.

Google Drive

You can back up your chats and media to Google Drive so that if you lose your phone or switch to another Android phone, your chats can be transferred.

How to back up to Google Drive
  1. Open WhatsApp .
  2. Click on More options > Settings > Chats > Chat backup .
    • You can click on option BACKUP to create an instant backup.
    • You can also use the Google Drive Backup feature and set the backup frequency to your liking.
  3. If you don't have a Google Account, click on Add a account when prompted.
  4. Click Use to select the network you want to use for backup. Please note that backing up using mobile internet may incur additional charges.
Please note the following:
  • WhatsApp backups are stored in Google Drive without taking up your Google Drive storage space. Please note that WhatsApp backups that have not been updated for more than one year are automatically deleted from Google Drive. To avoid losing copies, we recommend that you back up your WhatsApp data.
  • The first full backup may take some time. We recommend that you connect your phone to a power source.
  • You can change the backup frequency, the Google account to be backed up to, and select the type of connection to back up to at any time by going to More options > Settings > Chats > Chats backup .
  • Every time you create a Google Drive backup using the same Google Account, the previous backup will be overwritten. Restoring previous backups from Google Drive is not possible.
  • Your Google Drive backup and media files are not protected by WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption.

Restoring or transferring a backup

WhatsApp will ask if you want to restore your backups of your chats and media files when you verify your number. Just click on RESTORE when this option appears. If WhatsApp doesn't detect your backups, it could be because:

  • You are not connected to the correct Google account.
  • You are not using the phone number that was used to create the backups.
  • Your SD card or chat history has been corrupted.
  • There is no saved backup of your chats in your phone memory or Google Drive.

Note : The easiest way to transfer your data to a new phone is to use Google Drive. If you want to use local backup, then you will need to transfer your files to your new phone using your computer, file explorer, or SD card. If your backups are not saved in folder /sdcard/WhatsApp/ , you may see "internal storage" or "main storage" folders.

Restoring older backups

Your phone keeps local backup files for the last seven days. Only the most recent backup is stored in Google Drive. If you want to restore a local backup that is not the most recent, do the following:

  1. Download a file manager.
  2. In the file manager go to sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases . If your data is not stored on the SD card, you may see "internal storage" or "main storage" folders instead of sdcard.
  3. Rename the backup file you want to restore from msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 to msgstore.db.crypt12 . It is possible that an earlier backup could be on an earlier protocol such as crypt9 or crypt10. Do not change this extension number.
  4. Uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp.
  5. Press RESTORE when prompted.

Troubleshooting message backup and restore

If you're having trouble backing up to Google Drive, try this:
  • Make sure you've added a Google account to your phone.

    • Note : Google Play Services is only available for Android 2.3.4 and later.
