How to recover a deleted whatsapp group

How to recover a deleted whatsapp group

While meeting an old friend face to face sounds great, don't you think you'd enjoy a big get-together of all your old friends? A gathering where everyone knows each other and recalls old events and memories together sounds much better than a meeting of two people.

Group chats are the standard version of these large meetings where people get together and join the conversation, making it more varied and fun for everyone involved. Most people know about group chats from Facebook, but when it comes to creating groups, they prefer WhatsApp. After all, everything about texting is much more convenient on WhatsApp than on other social networks.

In today's blog, we will discuss how WhatsApp groups work and how to restore a group chat if you deleted it by mistake. Later we will also discuss how to return to the group.

How to recover a deleted whatsapp group

In the last section, we discussed that it is not actually possible to delete a whatsapp group. You can leave it or delete the chat from your WhatsApp, but you cannot permanently remove it from the WhatsApp servers, especially when there are other members in the group.

Here we assume that by "deleting" a group here you mean deleting a chat from your chat list. Now, if you want to restore a chat because it contains important files or information that you will need in the future, there are two ways you can do it.

The first method is time consuming but does not require anyone's help, while the second method, which is slightly easier, requires a group member. Both methods will extract that chat for you in a different format.

Let's learn more about these methods now:

1.

Reinstall whatsapp and restore data iCloud.

Here's the tricky part: to get the group chat back, you'll need to uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp, and back up all your data from Google Drive. Now, if you are backing up WhatsApp data on a daily basis, you should act quickly.

If you don't do all this before the next backup time (usually 7am), your backup will be updated without this group chat and you will lose it forever.

For this reason, this method only works if you do it immediately after deleting the chat, and not after a day or two. Since restoring a backup is a group action, having access to a Wi-Fi network will greatly simplify and speed up the process. But on the other hand, these messages will return exactly where they disappeared.

2. Get a chat export via friends

Although the above method seems ideal, it may not be available for many users: those who do not backup their data, those who do not have such time, and those who simply do not wants to go through all the trouble. .

For the benefit of these users, we are adding this method here. However, please note that it will not return the lost chat to its rightful place; It will only give you a copy of the chat in a text file.

Now let us tell you how it's done; Here you will also need the help of a friend. There must be a friend of yours who is also a member of this group. All you have to do is ask them to export the group chat to you. And if they don't know how to do it on WhatsApp, you can help them follow these simple steps:

Step 1: Open the WhatsApp application on your smartphone. You will be on the screen Chats . Here, scroll up to find that particular group chat, or enter its name into the search bar at the top of the screen.

Step 2: Once you find this chat, click on it to open the whole conversation on the screen. When you've done that, go to the three-dot icon in the top right corner and click on it.

Step 3: When you do this, a floating menu will appear on your screen. Now the last option in this list is over ; Click on it to view more options.

Step 4: In the next menu that will appear on your screen, you will find four options. Here you need to choose the third option: Chat export .

Step 5: The first question you will be asked is whether you want to include media files. WhatsApp will also warn you how embedding media can increase the export size. If these media files are not important to you, choose with no arguments ; Otherwise, go with Embedded Media.

When you click on this option, you will see another popup: Send chat via .

Under it, you will see different options, including WhatsApp and Gmail. We mention these two separately because they are often the most convenient way to export chats. You can decide which method suits you and your friend best.

Once you do this, you will see the option to share this file using the method you choose. Follow the instructions and soon your friend will receive a text file containing all the messages (and media files) of the remote group chat.

3. Create a new WhatsApp group

What if the missing WhatsApp group data was important not to you, but to its members? Well, in this case, we have an easier solution for you: why not create a new WhatsApp group by adding the same members? In this way, you will again have a pleasant place for gossip, which is a win-win situation for everyone.

Don't know how to create a new WhatsApp group? Don't worry, the process is quite simple and only takes two minutes. Let's get started:

Step 1: Open the WhatsApp application on your smartphone. on screen Chats , you will see a green floating message icon and the bottom right corner of the screen; Click here.

Step 2: You will be taken to the tab Select a contact. Here the first option would be: New group . When you click on this option, you will be taken to another tab with a list of all your contacts.

Here you can select all the members you want to add to your group by scrolling or entering their name in the search (by clicking on the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner).

Step 3: Once you have added everyone, click on the green arrow icon pointing right in the bottom right corner to move forward.

The next tab will ask you to name the group and add a photo. While adding an image may not be necessary right away, adding a group name is necessary.

After you add a name, you can click on the green hash icon at the bottom and the group will be created. Wasn't it so easy to create a new group?

How to recover deleted WhatsApp chats

Quick ways through backups or third party software.

How to restore chats on Android

From a Google Drive backup

You can fully restore deleted WhatsApp chats from Google Drive only if you first activate the backup function. To do this, in the application settings, you need to go along the path "Chats" → "Backup of chats", and then set the frequency of creating a backup: daily, weekly or monthly.

The backup will only be stored in the Google account that originally started the backup. To restore correspondence, you need to use the same phone number to which your account in the messenger is registered.

  1. Install or reinstall WhatsApp. Open the app and verify your phone number.
  2. Confirm the request to restore chats and media files from the Google Drive copy.
  3. When the process is complete, click Next.
  4. If there were media files in the backup, the application will continue to restore them in the background after the chats are returned.

From a local backup

Your device stores local backup files from the last week. To recover deleted messages, you need to transfer these entries to the folder with the WhatsApp chat database using a file manager.

  1. Start the file manager on your smartphone.
  2. The files you need are located in the local storage or on the SD card. To find them, follow the path Android → media → com.whatsapp → WhatsApp. This folder contains three directories: Backups, Databases, and Media. Migrate content from Backups to Databases.
  3. Reinstall and open WhatsApp. Verify your phone number.
  4. The application will offer to restore chats and media files from a local backup if it does not find a backup in Google Drive. Click Restore.

With a specialized application

There are a large number of WhatsApp data recovery tools. For example, Tenorshare UltData, Wondershare MobileTrans, iMyFone D-Back and similar programs. They should pull up deleted chats and other information both from the smartphone’s memory and from backups.

Almost all apps require a subscription to enable WhatsApp data recovery. At the same time, they do not have extraordinary algorithms for rolling back deleted files. For example, the mobile version of the UltData for Android application uses the same reserves as the messenger itself. Therefore, it is not worth placing high hopes on such programs. But you can use one of these PC utilities if other methods have not worked.

In most cases the sequence is very similar:

  1. Connect your smartphone to your computer with a cable and open the recovery program.
  2. On the main screen, select Restore WhatsApp Data or similar.
  3. Put your device into USB debugging mode. The application will display the appropriate instructions.
  4. After connecting your smartphone, proceed to the next step by clicking the "Next" or "Start" button. Most often, at this point, a window appears with a description of paid features and a call to purchase. Pay for a subscription or one-time cost.
  5. Next, the program may offer to make a copy of the data just in case.
  6. The application will search and after a few minutes will display a list of found chats. Check all the ones you need and click "Restore".
  7. Select a location to save data on the device.

How to restore chats on iOS

From an iCloud backup

You can use auto-save to iCloud to back up and restore your chat history. As in the case of Android, you must first activate the backup in the WhatsApp settings.

You can only start recovery with the same Apple ID that you use with iCloud. At the same time, the amount of free space in the cloud and in the memory of your device must be at least twice the size of the backup.

  1. Make sure you backed up your chats in iCloud. To do this, follow the path WhatsApp → "Settings" → "Chats" → "Backup". The date and time of the last save should be entered here.
  2. Uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp.
  3. After verifying your phone number, follow the instructions on the screen to restore your chat history.

Using third party software

For iOS there are versions of the same software as for Android.
