Highlights of the Story

  • WhatsApp is the biggest Instant messaging platform in the world right now and is owned by Facebook
  • WhatsApp introduced a featured that allows users to delete or recall already sent messages similar to the offering of other chatting applications
  • WhatsApp allows you to recall a message and delete it from the receiver’s phone for a limited time after it has been sent

WhatsApp has introduced a lot of new features in the recent times, especially after the acquisition by Facebook for a whopping $19 Billion in 2014. Several of these features made the application more usable for people including the addition of Voice Call support and Video Call support, one such update to the app that was introduced a while ago is the ability to delete already sent WhatsApp messages.

This feature has been added to Android, iOS, and the Web version, and messages can be deleted from individual or group chats but there are a few limitations. When you “unsent” or “delete a message” the recipient will show a post that says “this message was deleted” in the place of the originally sent message. This means that the recipient will know that a message was deleted but they will not know the contents of it. This works for text messages and multimedia messages such as photos, videos, and Voice Messages.

How to Recall a Message on WhatsApp

The process to unsent a message on WhatsApp is very easy and you simply have to push and hold down on the conversation and select the trash icon to the top on the menu. You will now be presented with three options, delete for me, Delete for Everyone, and Cancel. Select the Delete for Everyone option to recall the message. After tapping on that option, the message will disappear on the device of the recipient as well as your phone.

If the message was still in the notification of the receiver’s phone, then the notification will update itself to show that the message has been deleted. By tapping on the Delete for me option the user will be able to only delete the message from the sender phone and this will not have any effect on the receiver. You can also unsent or recall multiple messages at a time when this feature was first launched there was a limit of 7 minutes until which the message could be deleted, this time limit has then been increased to more than an hour now.

Step-by-step Instructions:
  • Navigate to the chat or group where you have sent a message that you wish to delete
  • Navigate the message and then tap and hold on the conversation to select the message
  • Look for the trash icon to the top in the menu and click on it
  • Then you will be presented with three options, delete for me, Delete for Everyone, and Cancel. Select the Delete for Everyone option to recall the message.
  • Your message will then disappear from your phone and the recipient’s phone and be replaced with a placeholder that says that the message has been deleted.

For this feature to work, it is recommended that both, the sender and the receiver have the latest version of Android downloaded on their devices. Recipients may also see your message before it is deleting or if the deletion was not successful, you will be notified if the deleting for everyone was unsuccessful.

You can bypass the 68 minute limit and delete any message much later. We will explain how the new WhatsApp feature works and show a life hack that makes it easy to manage the chats of the application. nine0003

68 minutes is not the limit. Delete messages at any time - we'll show you how to bypass WhatsApp rules. Hurry before the developers fix this vulnerability.

How to delete a WhatsApp message after sending

The latest app updates made it possible to delete messages sent to WhatsApp chat. And it does not depend on whether they were read or not.

  • Once you've sent a message, you have 68 minutes to delete it. When this time passes, there will be no going back. nine0030
  • To delete a message, hold it down until the message management menu appears. Click on the urn icon which indicates the delete option.
  • If 68 minutes has not yet passed, select "Delete for all". Later, only the "Delete for me" function will be visible, which will only delete the message from your chat, but not from the chat of the interlocutor.
  • Instead of a message in the chat, the notification "This message has been deleted" will remain. The recipient will also see this notification, regardless of whether they have read the deleted message or not. nine0030
  • In group chats, deleting works the same way.

By the way, if your interlocutor is offline, you cannot be sure that he did not read the message. Your friend might have seen it on their smartphone's lock screen.

Life hack: how to delete a message even after 68 minutes

In theory, you only have 68 minutes to delete a message for both parties. But this rule can be tricked and even older messages can be deleted.

  • To do this, open "Settings" on your smartphone and activate the flight mode.
  • On iOS, select "Date & Time" under the "General" category. On Android, the same item is in the main settings menu. nine0030
  • Turn off automatic time detection and then manually change the date and time to match the period you sent the message.
  • Open WhatsApp and delete the message as described in the instructions above. Activate the automatic time setting again and only then exit the flight mode.

Please note that this security hole will be closed shortly. But in any case, you will have a whole 68 minutes.
