How to forward instagram posts

Ways to Reshare Content From Other Users

Instagram is a powerful social media platform to help increase brand reach and drive new business, but it can be time-consuming and expensive to consistently share content you need to see your engagement grow in the long-term — which is why you should learn how to repost on Instagram.

In this post, we'll show you different free ways to repost on Instagram in a few simple steps. But before diving in, let’s discuss why reposting on Instagram can benefit your brand.

Why should your brand repost on Instagram?

Instagram is one of the largest social media sites on the market. With over one billion monthly active users, brands that incorporate the site into marketing strategy can reach larger audiences and gain visibility faster over other social media channels.

And with an audience like that, you want to consistently post high-quality content — but that can take time, effort, and resources that may not fit your budget just yet. Since most marketers post between 3-4 times per week, you should have a backlog of content to keep up with demand.

Additionally, user-generated content (UGC) performs exceptionally well. In fact, 90% of consumers say UGC holds more influence over their buying decisions than promotional emails and even search engine results.

For instance, consider the power of Warby Parker reposting this funny image from one of its customers, @cjronson:

A post shared by Warby Parker (@warbyparker)

Not only does the image likely appeal to Warby Parker customers, but it ultimately made Warby Parker marketers' jobs easier — they didn’t need to create that content in-house.

Reposting to Instagram can help you highlight brand endorsements from your customers, brand loyalists, and employees. UGC is typically considered more trustworthy since a consumer isn't gaining anything by promoting your product or service (unless it's an advertisement) — they're just doing it to tell their audiences that they like your product.

How to Repost on Instagram

Instagram allows you to repost other users’ Reels and posts to your own Instagram Story using its native reposting functionality. However, it has its limits: It doesn’t let you repost to any permanent part of your Instagram profile, including your feed, Reels, or videos.

In other words, Instagram only lets you temporarily share someone else’s content for 24 hours max. If you do want to keep it permanently, you can add it to an Instagram Story Highlight.

If you’re looking to add a post to your permanent feed and credit the original creator, read about how to do that in the next sections. For now, let’s learn how you can repost content to your Story and add it to your highlights.

1. Navigate to the post, Reel, or video you want to repost.

First, find the right content to share with your followers. You can do this through several avenues:

  • Search for industry hashtags and repost popular posts by other brands and influencers
  • Search for branded hashtags, which will show you user-generated content made by your customers and fans
  • See the posts you’ve been tagged in and repost any that align with your brand
  • Find brands that you admire and repost the content that most aligns with your brand

Remember that you can only repost content from users and brands with public profiles.

Note: You can also repost other people’s Stories, so long as you’re tagged in them. You can find those who’ve mentioned you in their Story in your Direct Messages.

2. Click the paper airplane symbol on the post or Reel.

On photos and videos, the button will be located next to the Like and Comment buttons.

On Reels, it will be located between the Comment button and the three dots.

3. On the pop-up menu, click “Add post to your story.”

A pop-up will appear with several options. If you’re sharing a post, you have the option to add it to your story, reply to the poster (if they allow replies), or send the post via Direct Message to anyone you’ve messaged recently.

Similar options appear when you try to share a Reel.

Click Add post to your story or Add reel to your story.

4. Tap to show and hide the post’s caption.

Next, you should see a draft of your story.

You have the option of either showing or hiding the caption. Simply tap the post to toggle between the two.

5. Add text, stickers, hashtags, and other elements.

To get the most engagement possible and align the repost with your brand, spruce up the story with text and other elements. You can even add a link or a call-to-action. Learn how to customize your Instagram Story here.

6.

To share, click “Your Story.”

It’s time to finish your repost. At the bottom, click the button that says “Your Story” at the bottom. This will automatically share it with no additional action required.

You also have the option to click "Close Friends", if you only want a select group to view your story. Last, if you click the right-hand arrow, you’ll see additional options to share the post via DM or with your close friends.

7. Add the shared post to your Highlights.

While Instagram doesn’t allow you to share posts directly to your permanent feed, you can add it to one of your Highlights, which will remain permanently on your profile. Learn how to create Highlights here.

Here’s one example from a stationer called MARK+FOLD:

With Stories, the same best practices should be followed as for sharing a post. If you don’t know the person and suspect the content you’d like to re-share might be licensed material, ask for permission first. Give credit to the original posters whenever possible.

How to Repost on Instagram Using a Screenshot

  1. Take a screenshot of the Instagram post you want to use.
  2. Tap the new post button located on the top right corner, select post.
  3. Resize the photo in the app.
  4. Edit and add filters of your choice.
  5. Add a citation.
  6. Add a caption.
  7. Click share on the top right corner.

The screenshot method doesn't require other websites to repost on Instagram. It's worth nothing that this method only works for reposting photos, not videos.

Here's how to do it.

1. Find a photo on Instagram you'd like to repost, and take a screenshot with your phone.

  • For iOS: Press down on the home and lock buttons simultaneously until your screen flashes.
  • For Android: Press down on the sleep/wake and volume down buttons simultaneously until your screen flashes.

2. Tap the new post button.

Once you've got your screenshot, return to your Instagram account. Tap the "new post button" in the top right of your Instagram screen (the plus sign inside a square).

Then select "Post" (other options include "Story" "Reels" or "Live").

3. Resize the photo in the app.

Keep in mind that your phone will take a screenshot of everything on your screen, not just the photo you want to repost. So, be prepared to crop the sides of the screenshot to capture just the image you want to share with your followers.

After you've cropped or resized the photo to your liking (by pinching the image and then widening your fingers apart), click "Next" in the top-right of your screen.

4. Edit and add filters of your choice.

Edit and filter the post like you would any other Instagram post.

5. Add a citation.

The repost won't include a citation, so we suggest adding one by typing "@ + [username]" to credit the original poster with the photo you're reposting.

6. Add a caption.

At the top you'll see a preview of your post along with space for a caption. You can choose to tag people or organizations, and add a location.

7. Click share.

Once you've finished customizing the post with the options above, click share at the top right corner. The post will be live.

Here's how the finished product looks:

Pro Tip: When reposting content through screenshots, make sure you properly tag or give credit to the original content owner either within your story by linking to their account, or in the description of a post or reel.

How to share an Instagram post using a hyperlink

Perhaps you've seen an Instagram post displaying a darling gift that you'd love your partner to get you for Christmas, but unfortunately they aren't on Instagram, so you can't just tag them in the comments section and expect them to see the post.

Luckily, you can copy the public post's hyperlink and email, text, or message the link to any non-Instagram users.

1. Open the Instagram app on your iPhone or Android.

2. Navigate to the post that you'd like to share.

3. Tap the ellipses, or "..." symbol,  above the top-right corner of the post.

4. Tap "Copy Link."

How to share an Instagram post on your Instagram Story or in a direct message

Like with sharing a hyperlink, to share a post on your Instagram Story it has to be public.

1. Go to the post that you'd like to share on your Story.

2. Tap the paper airplane icon below the post, next to the comments bubble.

3. Tap "Add post to your story."

4. Share the post like you would any other story, by tapping the "Your Story" icon on the next page.

You can also direct message the post to a friend by simply tapping the check mark next to their username in the window after you tap the paper airplane icon. You can scroll through the list to find their username or search for it in the search bar at the top.

How to forward on Instagram: photo, message, video, story

Content:

  • 1 Photo forwarding
  • 2 Video forwarding
  • 3 How to forward a story
  • 4 How to forward a message

Almost every Instagram user is familiar with the situation when, while scrolling through the news feed, he came across a great photo or an interesting video, or, while browsing stories, noted important information that he would like to share with his friend, and, possibly, with several friends at once. But not everyone knows how to do this, and many are convinced that Stories cannot be sent at all. We will talk about how to send the materials you like in this article. nine0003

Photo forwarding

Looking through the news feed, you can see an interesting photo, want to share with someone, decide to forward the photo on Instagram. To do this, do the following.

Having opened the photo of interest, click on the paper airplane icon located under the photo itself, next to the add comments icon.

A window pops up. We are prompted to choose a dialogue with the user with whom we want to share the photo. Click the "Submit" button next to the selected name. If this person is not yet in the list of dialogues, enter his name in the search bar located above all dialogues. nine0003

Select the "Finish" button that appears at the very bottom of the screen.

We return to our main page. Select the direct icon located in the upper right corner.

Opening a dialog with a user who has just received a photo.

We see that the photo was sent along with hashtags and the name of the author. Click on the picture.

The photo opens as we saw it before we "clicked the share button".

nine0002 You can go the other way. Open the photo, click on the vertical ellipsis located in the upper right corner.

In the window that opens, select the "Share link" line.

A new window appears at the bottom of the screen, in which we are given the choice of other social networks, instant messengers or email. We click on the "Direct" of Instagram.

A page opens on which we need to select a dialog. Having decided on the user with whom we want to share a link to the photo, click the "Send" button. nine0003

Click "Finish" at the bottom of the screen.

A dialog box opens. We see that this time we did not send a photo, but only a link to it. We click on the link.

A photo is opened.

Video forwarding

To send a video, once you have decided on a video, click on the paper airplane icon below it.

A list of recent conversations pops up. Choose who you want to share with, click Send.

nine0002 Click "Finish" at the bottom of the screen.

We return to the main page and click on the direct button.

Select a dialogue with the user to whom the video was sent.

In the window that opens, we see that it was sent with the author and signature, comments.

If you click on the video with your finger, it opens in full size and looks like we found it before sending it.

How to forward history

Not everyone knows that you can forward a story on Instagram. nine0003

Being in your account on the main page, at the top of the screen, select the circle with the story you like.

Story starts. Click on the paper airplane icon in the lower right corner.

A list of recent conversations pops up. Select the one to which we want to send this Story, click "Send".

The “Finish” button appears at the bottom of the screen, click on it.

Go to your direct.

History starts. Please note that the person to whom we sent the story can see not only the selected piece that we decided to share, but also take an interest in all the stories uploaded in this account at the moment.

How to forward a message

Being interested in the question of how to forward a message on Instagram, I came to the conclusion that there is no special button to activate this function. But there is a way by which we will still be able to share the received message, but without specifying its author. nine0003

Open a dialog box, select the message you want to forward. We pinch it with our finger.

In the window that opens, select the line "Copy text".

We are looking for a dialogue with the user to whom we want to send the selected message.

Having opened the desired correspondence, press your finger into the area for entering text.

Paste the copied message. Click on the "Submit" button.

We see that the message has been forwarded.

Now you know what you need to do to send a photo, video, text message or story to Instagram. As you can see, there is nothing complicated in this, just select the desired button, dialog and click on "Submit". Forward your favorite posts to other users, share your impressions of what you see, discuss the publications you like together, keep communication in this way. nine0003

How to make a collab post on Instagram

The Collab feature on Instagram* is another way to collaborate with brands and bloggers, or simply make a collab post with a friend or family member.

We tell you how to set up the function, about its advantages and the purposes of introducing it into the social network.

What are collaborative posts on Instagram and why

A feature known as “Collab” or “Invite a collaborator” was tested in early 2021 in several countries, including the UK and India, and launched worldwide in October. Collaborative posts are now available for any open account. nine0003

Collab allows you to share posts and videos on Instagram* with another person so that no one has to duplicate content. Both authors of the post will be listed, and the post will collect total likes, views, and comments.

Collaboration posts can be used by media personalities to announce collaborations, influencers to interact with brands, and ordinary users to post a video about a vacation with their best friend.

For example, Kourtney Kardashian and her fiancé Travis Barker used this feature on Halloween to show couples' costumes from Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands. nine0003 At the top right, you can see that the post has two authors, kourtneykardash and travisbarker. Click on the accounts and find that both users have the post, with the same engagement rates

The feature is very easy to use after a little practice.

How to post a joint post on Instagram*

To make a joint post, click on the plus in the upper right corner or in the bottom center of the screen. You will be taken to the creation menu. Next, follow the usual steps to create a post or rils. When you go to the menu where you can add a signature, click "Tag people" - a separate screen will open. nine0003

Next to the "Add tag" option, you will see the "Invite collaborator" function. Click and then find the account of the person you would like to invite to create a joint post.

You need to know what a collaborator's username looks like in order to search for it.

Multiple users can be selected, up to a maximum of 20. Note that 20 is the total number of participants. It includes both co-authors and people you simply tag in a post. You can tag 10 people and 10 co-authors, or 20 co-authors and no one else. nine0003

In the process, you will see a pop-up message "If [co-author name] accepts the invitation, this person will be credited as the author of your publication and it will be made available to their subscribers."

This means that you cannot unilaterally designate someone as a co-author of a joint publication. You can only invite a person to cooperate, and he can accept or decline the invitation.

By the way, if you were invited to become a co-author, and in the future you want to remove yourself from this post, just go to the post menu and click "Stop sharing"

Have you added all the co-authors you wanted? Click the "Done" button in the upper right corner of the screen to save the settings, then publish as usual.

To recap:

  • Create a new Instagram post* as usual.
  • Click Tag People when you get to the headings screen.
  • Click "Invite Collaborator" - the button is next to the "Add Tag" option.
  • Use the search box to find collaborators you want to collaborate with. nine0006
  • Click "Done" in the upper right corner of the screen to send the invitation to the shared post.
  • Post as usual.

For Reels co-publishing, the process is the same - record and edit as usual. Check Preview that everything looks correct, then click Next to get to the sharing options. On this page, click on "Tag People" to access the "Invite Collaborator" tag, and follow the outline. nine0003

Benefits of collaborating on Instagram*

Collab is a great feature to reach new, relevant audiences, but you have to make sure the content works for all collaborator channels. For example, you sell high-quality coffee makers, and the co-author sells great coffee. Co-authoring a post is a good idea, as the audience is interested in both.

Several clear advantages for joint posts on Instagram*:

  • Collab eliminates the publication of almost identical posts with friends.
  • The collab increases the reach of the audience, as it is available to both your subscribers and the co-author's subscribers.
  • A new audience can easily turn into subscribers if you collaborate with someone from your own or a related business niche. You can also reach your audience with hashtags. Read about it in the article “Hashtags for gaining followers on Instagram*: varieties, effectiveness, examples”. nine0006
  • You can get more likes and comments. It has not yet been proven that this will help boost the Instagram algorithm *, but it is possible that the social network will begin to give preference to this type of publication.

But consider the inconvenience : a joint post will be placed in the profile grids of both authors. This can be awkward when scheduling your posts in the same style. Consider the aesthetics and layout of both accounts before co-writing something.

Head of Instagram* Adam Mosseri: Joint Posts on Instagram* VS TikTok Duets

Instagram co-authorship* is for general posting, not co-creation.

Duets on TikTok allow you to record your own video along with the original based on another user's video.

A diction lesson is an example of a TikTok video created specifically for duets. Any user can take it as a template and complete the task by filling in the pauses after the announcer's words

Duets on TikTok and co-authorship on Instagram* introduce the creator of the video to a new audience, which is usually not very good on Instagram*. This is not my opinion, the thought was voiced by the head of the social network Adam Mosseri. nine0003

Instagram* is a platform where brands and influencers can stay connected to audiences they have built elsewhere. It's getting harder and harder to use Instagram* to acquire followers from scratch.

This is a problem for Mosseri, who wants Instagram* to be just as good at getting new creators noticed as TikTok.

Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram*

“Instagram* is much better at helping content creators who have already made a name for themselves on the platform. TikTok is better at identifying new and young talents, and, first of all, helping them to open up. nine0003

And we want to be really good at it. Historically, we have paid less attention to this, but I am pushing my teams in every possible way to ensure that this “boy” (Collab) becomes better.

Mosseri acknowledges TikTok's ability to create social media stars, which he thinks should be on Instagram*.
