How to be good on instagram
Instagram Success Tips: Generate 700-1000 Followers Every Week
So, you want to know how to be successful on Instagram? While there are over 800 million monthly active accounts, being an Instagram success story is still possible.
You will be required to put in a lot of work and effort, but the outcome is worth it.
Doing so will help your account stand out and gain a targeted following. For the last few weeks, I’ve been gaining over 700 new followers every few days.
This is down to several strategies which I’ll be explaining in this article, including how I use Sked (formerly Schedugram) to plan, create, and automatically publish content. The best thing of all, these can be applied to both personal and business accounts.
Are you ready to be an Instagram success?
- Create the perfect bio
- Produce interesting content
- Post regularly
- Identify top hashtags
- Utilise Instagram Stories
- Take advantage of Instagram Highlights
- Cross promote friends and influencers
- Go Live on Instagram
- Engage with your followers and targeted audience
1.
Create the Perfect BioBefore anything, you first need to make sure your Instagram bio is attractive. It needs to be able to tell your audience who you are, what you do and includes a clear call-to-action.
This is mandatory to becoming an Instagram success. Your targeted audience won’t follow you if they aren’t interested in what you have to offer and being able to tell them that within a few words is important.
Check out the below examples to get inspiration for your Instagram bio to help achieve Instagram success.

As you can see from the above screenshot, MyProtein explain who they are, how you can get involved and lastly giving them some sort of value by entering their competition to win their products for free. Clear, attractive and informative.
Creation Agency Instagram Bio
Creation Agency’s Instagram bio consists of what the agency does, who they are, what they have to offer on the platform by following and also a few links for extra information. The last link takes you directly to the latest blog post.
My Instagram profile bio consists of who I am, what I do, where I’m going next and a clear call-to-action to follow on Facebook.
Straight away you will be able to identify what type of content I would likely post. This is exactly what you need to do so your targeted audience have an actual reason to follow you.
You also get one clickable link that you can add to your profile, so it’s worth putting some thought into how best you can use it. Many brands use it to link to their websites but that may not be the most beneficial way to use it.
One way you can get more mileage out of your profile link is to use a redirect URL. It’ll allow you to send traffic to any web page you want, every time you post. It’s a great way to promote different offers to your followers and the good news is, you get three branded redirect URLs for free with every Sked account as a part of the app’s link-in-bio feature.
For more detailed tips on how to set up a redirect URL and create the perfect Instagram bio, check out this article.

2. Produce Interesting Content
Now you have got a quality Instagram bio sorted for your account, it’s time to think about your content plan.
If you create low-quality boring content that just really sucks and isn’t attractive, too many words and not interesting to your audience, don’t expect to be an Instagram success.

There are lots of tools available on the web and app stores that will help you create striking content. When I’m not using Photoshop, I’ll tend to use tools like Canva, Adobe Spark Post, Typorama or other tools on the web.
In fact, if you haven’t tried it yet, Sked’s Canva integration is a great way to add graphic design elements to your images and give them an extra ‘wow’ factor before scheduling them to post automatically.
To get started, log into your account, click on the ‘Upload posts’ option, then ‘Create banner with Canva’. This will open the Canva integration, as in the image below.
Next, upload an image (see green arrow above) and let your creativity take over using Canva’s wide range of drag-and-drop tools. You can add text, borders, frames, backgrounds, shapes, and more … the options really are limitless.
Once you’re happy with your design, click on publish, fill out your caption and first comment, then add it to your queue or schedule it to post on a specific time/date.

3. Post regularly
Posting regularly is one of the ingredients on how to be an Instagram success. This requires you to be very active. Ideally, you should be posting a least once a day.
If you can post more than that, 2-3 times a day will get you the most reach and engagement, especially to grow your account.
While it can be a pain to post several times a day, Sked comes in handy for this and automates your posting.
Just set-up your content queue and add the Instagram content. To do this, open your account and click on the ‘Setup queue’ option on the homepage.
Next, select your account, enable your queue (see green arrow below), and choose your timezone (red arrow). Then, click the ‘Add’ button for the days you want to post and set the time (blue arrow).
Now, when you add a post to your queue, Sked will automatically post it for you when your preferred time comes around.
I would also recommend identifying the best time to post on Instagram.
This also applies to Instagram Stories. You should be utilising that feature mostly every-day or when you have the chance to show off interesting content.
You could also make use of Instagram stories by promoting your latest content, telling your audience you have uploaded a new post (and in case you didn’t know, you can schedule images and videos to post automatically to Instagram Stories using Sked, too).

4.
Identify Top HashtagsThroughout my time managing various Instagram accounts I’ve come across a lot of businesses making silly little mistakes on Instagram that really affects their chance of growth and being an Instagram success.
These little mistakes can be anything from using no hashtags to a bunch of random non-related hashtags to even no caption!
When sharing content on Instagram, it’s vital you utilise Instagram hashtags. The reason being you will maximise your chances of reach, engagement and potential growth.
For all content I share on the platform, I make sure to use up all 30 hashtags – this gives me maximum exposure.
I also make sure to do regular in-depth keyword research to find the best hashtags that will give me the chance of being featured in the top nine posts.
Instagram hashtag keyword research is very important. If you get it right and manage to rack up a lot of engagement within a short period of posting, you may even hit the explore page.
If I were you, I would start doing Instagram hashtag research and then use Sked’s hashtag manager to keep them organised. You can use it to store all your hashtags separately or in groups, which is really handy if have more than one account to manage.
It’s much easier than storing them in Evernote and having to copy-paste them all the time. If you haven’t tried hashtag manager yet, take it for a test drive and see what you think.

5. Utilise Instagram Stories
Instagram Stories can be used in various ways. It’s a brilliant feature that should be utilised regularly. Especially when your account surpasses 10,000 followers which enables you to start adding hyperlinks within your stories.
This is a fantastic way to drive more traffic and generate more business from Instagram.
You should also create polls on Instagram stories to find out specific information about your followers, for example, what type of content they prefer.
Using this feature to announce a new post is also a great strategy, as a result, you will see an increase in engagement much faster.
And you can use Sked to schedule image and videos posts to publish automatically to Instagram Stories, as well as to add clickable links. To find out how to enable story posting for your account, check out this article.

6. Take Advantage of Instagram Highlights
Taking advantage of Instagram’s recent update which includes the ability to display story highlights on your profile, is the perfect strategy for increasing website traffic.
You might consider creating a few highlights to promote and encourage your audience to follow you on other social networks.
You may decide to create a few product highlights including a hyperlink to directly buy the product or service. Use your creative mind to find interesting unique ways to increase traffic, engagement and follower growth – all of which will help you become an Instagram success.
Back to Content Menu
Cross promoting contribute to Instagram success if done right. Make use of your other social accounts to help grow your Instagram.
Share your Instagram updates on your Facebook or Twitter, consider even showcasing your Instagram uploads on your website – ASOS do a great job of this to promote their clothing. You can also automate your Instagram uploads directly to your Twitter by using tools like IFTTT.
Depending on how big your account is, you should consider connecting with large accounts and Instagram influencers, ask them if they would be willing to collaborate.
However, if your account is nowhere near the same size nor the engagement ratio, then you should really consider providing value before you drop that ask.
I’ve done this plenty of times and it has really helped with follower growth and engagement. This strategy can also be done via Instagram Stories and is quite effective.

8. Go Live on Instagram
Instagram Live can bring in a lot of engagement and new followers, especially if you provide value and share it across your social channels.
If you promote it before-hand using hashtags in your story and posts you’ll most likely gather a few new interested followers wanting to see what you have to offer.
Instagram Livestreams are great for driving traffic too if your Instagram Live has racked up a lot of viewers, considering dropping in a few call-to-actions such as telling them to click the link in your bio for exclusive content.
Your Instagram Live should be interesting to your audience and that can be achieved by sharing what happens behind-the-scenes.
You could also do weekly or monthly question and answer streams, these are great for your audience to get to know you more and for you to find out what your audience likes to know about you, giving you more ideas for content.
Back to Content Menu
9. Engage with Your Followers and Targeted Audience
Ultimately, being an Instagram success on Instagram also comes down to how you engage with your followers.
If you show that you are an actual human behind that profile picture and actively reply to your audience’s comments and direct messages regularly they will be more likely to engage with your content and recommend you to their friends, family and followers.
This also applies to engaging with your followers content.
Leaving a few likes, comments and following back your audience will help build positive healthy relationships encouraging engagement and trust. This can be very effective when engaging with targeted audiences. I’ve found this one of the best ways to grow my accounts.
When I’ve identified targeted accounts or competitors that have a large following, I’ll visit their followers and engage with their content providing it’s suitable.
This is very effective as they will receive a notification each time I engage with their account. For the best results, I would highly recommend spacing out your interactions.
For example, I tend to like a few of their pictures, then 10 minutes later I’ll leave a comment, 20 minutes after that I’ll possibly follow them.
This will give them three notifications all at different times, of which they would probably want to find out who I am. You will have a better chance of them checking out your profile.
If they do and they like what they see, they may engage with the content on my account and potentially drop a follow. That’s how great relationships with a targeted audience are then built.
However, I wouldn’t just stop there.
You should continually engage with them whenever you see their posts in your feed.
This will keep them engaging back with your content unless they already do. The more “human-like” your account is, the more engagement and interaction you may receive.

10 Instagram Best Practices to Build Your Audience
With Instagram being the most frequently accessed social network among U.S users, brands can’t afford to not be on Instagram. But it’s not enough to simply create an Instagram profile for your brand and leave it at that. Your presence on the platform should serve a purpose and deliver some kind of business value.
To make Instagram work for your business, following some best practices can help you get ahead of the game. This involves steps to grow your brand visibility on the platform, gain new followers and drive audience engagement.
In this post, we take a look at some of the top Instagram best practices that can help you build your audience. Let’s find out.
1. Maintain a consistent feed of high-quality visuals
When it comes to Instagram, visuals are everything. A badly photographed image or a poorly-designed graphic isn’t going to cut it. You need high-quality images and videos that stand out and instantly attract your audience.
Make smart use of colors and filters so your images not only look great but also give a consistent look and feel to your entire Instagram page. Ideally, you should stick to color combinations and visual styles that fit your brand persona.
On Whataburger’s Instagram page, the brand’s signature white and orange colors are a prominent element in every post.
2. Stay on top of Instagram changes and updates
Instagram is constantly evolving, which means brands have to always stay on top of the latest trends and features. This will give you the foresight to leverage these changes and updates ahead of your competitors.
The platform has added on to popular content options like Stories and IGTV to introduce features like Reels and Instagram Shopping, which brands can use to engage their audience or drive store conversions. Moreover, it has even enhanced existing features to introduce trends such as augmented reality filters to Instagram Stories. Brands can even create custom AR filters to promote audience engagement and gain better visibility.
Staying on top of all these updates will allow you to capitalize on them as soon as possible and find new ways to engage your audience.
3. Pay attention to what your audience wants
Even if they don’t explicitly express their thoughts, your audience’s behaviors and actions can tell you a lot about what they want to see. Use insights from your social media analytics to find out what kind of content they like to interact with.
In the Sprout Social Index, Edition XVII: Accelerate, our research found some disconnects between what consumers and marketers think makes a brand best in class on social. Consumers’ top priority is customer service (47%) followed by engaging content (46%) and transparency (44%). Don’t just guess about what type of voice or content your customers might find interesting, ensure you’re getting outside your own biases and using data to understand what your customers actually care about.
Social insights can help you answer questions like: Which content formats see the most engagement? What kind of approach works best in getting them to comment? Does it help to include questions in your captions?
Answering these questions and others that help you connect with your audience will help you come up with some interesting post ideas to use in your content calendar.Adapt your Instagram content strategy to provide your audience and potential customers with exactly what they want to see.
4. Perfect your timing
Although the Instagram algorithm changes constantly, one thing that has remained consistent is the priority on engagement. Posting at the right times when your audience is active can translate to a boost in visibility and engagement.
The goal is to post your content at the right time when users are most active and most likely to engage with it. When we conducted a study on social media usage, our latest data showed that Tuesdays and Wednesdays were usually the best days to post, with peak hours being 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
However, the specific optimal times may vary depending on factors like where you’re located, which industry you’re in and how your audience behaves. Read our study for more detail per industry, and dig into your account analytics to find the optimal timing for your business in particular. You can then schedule your posts to go out on those times.
Sprout Social’s publishing tools uses features like ViralPost offer an automated alternative to all this research by determining for you when your audience is the most active. ViralPost will then automatically push out your content at optimal send times. This greatly helps you streamline your publishing efforts, enabling you to catch your audience when they’re the most engaged.
5. Tell visual stories
For your brand to leave a lasting impact, it has to be memorable. And that’s where storytelling comes in. Instagram is the perfect platform to create intriguing and captivating visual stories about your brand. Start creating visuals to tell engaging stories about your brand history, your customer stories, your employee experiences or your brand impact.
Equinox uses this approach to tell a story about fitness as a lifestyle. The brand leverages Instagram to share captivating visual stories that tie into their brand slogan of “It’s Not Fitness. It’s Life.”

6. Use hashtags to boost content discovery
Hashtags are your best friends on Instagram. They help your content show up in the search results of said hashtags and in the Explore pages of people who’ve viewed or interacted with similar content. So hashtags on Instagram are a great way to boost content discovery and overall brand visibility.
Make the most of niche hashtags and industry-related hashtags that can help you hone in on the right audience. Picking the most used hashtags globally or regionally may mean you just get lost in the noise–targeting meaningful hashtags relevant to your product or service is more likely to get your content in front of potential customers. And don’t forget to share branded hashtags to encourage user-generated content (UGC).
Nature’s Path uses a mix of branded and niche hashtags in its Instagram posts like this one. Instead of crowding up the caption, it includes the hashtags in the comments.
You can easily optimize your Instagram hashtag use with Sprout. In addition to hashtag reporting that will help you find the best options for your content, our Instagram publishing features first-comment publishing that saves you extra steps if it’s your brand style to keep your hashtags in the first comment.
7. Make the most of games, contests & challenges
One of the top Instagram best practices to generate tons of engagement is using games, contests and challenges. These tend to be highly engaging as they involve directly encouraging audience participation. If you throw in a reward with your contests and games, your audience is more likely to get involved since they have an opportunity to get prizes from brands they follow or that relate to their interest.
You could create fun quizzes and trivia games to get your audience to comment. Or you could run giveaway contests that involve people liking, commenting, sharing or tagging their friends in the comments.

Many contests also involve getting people to create UGC, which will further put your brand in front of their followers and give you a stock of content to build up your publishing calendar with. Similarly, you could create challenges that involve your followers taking a certain action. This can be anything from putting together a makeup look around a certain theme or dancing in a particular choreography. Encourage them to share content that shows them performing the challenge, which drives more brand visibility as they use your relevant branded hashtags and tag your account.
8. Use Instagram paid ads to expand your reach
Organic brand reach on social media can be more challenging than ever with how active the platform is. While Instagram fares better than other major platforms, an Ignite Social Media analysis found that out of 150,000 followers, only 14,100 will see an organic post in their feed.
You can bolster your visibility and better promote your Instagram using paid ads. Paid targeting can help your content gain reach beyond current audiences who see it in their organic, algorithmically served content and find new potential customers.
Use paid ads to target highly relevant users who are likely to be interested in your product and content. Instagram advertising allows you to get your brand in front of the right people using a number of highly granular targeting options. This means you can attract new followers and new customers alike.
Even if you don’t want to invest in paid ads on a regular basis, make sure it’s part of your strategy when ramping up a new campaign or trying to grow your account’s reach.
9. Partner with influencers to reach new audiences
With the ability to reach hundreds of thousands of people through their posts, influencers can add fuel to your Instagram promotion efforts. Influencer marketing is another way to get your brand in front of new audiences, and the trust that audiences have in influencers’ recommendations can be a huge boost to your customer base.
When partnering with influencers, it’s crucial that you work with people whose audience base overlaps with yours. In other words, make sure you only partner with influencers who can reach your target audience. This typically means people who’ve built an influence in your industry or a related niche. For example, vegan food influencers for brands that produce eco-friendly and organic products.

10. Make data-driven decisions
Last but not least–don’t underestimate the power of data. If you want to make Instagram work for your business, best practices such as tracking your post performance and measuring audience engagement are vital. As long as you know what to look for, data can inform your content strategy and your marketing decisions.
Here are a few ideas:
- Track comments and post performance to see how your audience is responding to a particular style of post. Then use those insights to modify your Instagram content strategy.
- Make data-driven decisions on what influencers you should partner with based on the people that your target audience follows and looks up to.
- Monitor Instagram trends to gain foresight on how to craft timely posts, adapt your campaign or create a new one.
- Measure audience engagement to see how your campaign is performing. Then look for opportunities to improve, modify or replicate your campaign for best results.
Tracking your data gives you precise insight on what’s working and what strategies aren’t taking off, allowing you to continually refine your approach.
Using data effectively means that you’re not only producing content and campaigns for Instagram, but creating an invaluable source of learnings about what works for your brand and customer base along the way.
Make Instagram work for your brand
These Instagram best practices are the perfect starting point for brands of any size to build a new audience or take your account presence to the next level.

How to run Instagram the right way: making your account successful
Instagram has evolved from a social network where people share news and photos of food to a blogging platform. The audience is used to quality content, and the competition is high: you compete with users from all over the world, because photos do not care about language or geographic location, and professional models, photographers, makeup artists and artists also actively use the social network. Of course, many do not know how to manage Instagram so that it develops and generates income. nine0003
But everyone has a chance to find their audience. Both schoolgirls from small towns and big brands with interesting content are becoming popular on Instagram. We figure out how to come up with a concept, take photos, write posts and maintain an Instagram account so as not to sink to the bottom of the algorithmic feed, but to find subscribers.
How to Instagram
Instagram is not just your page on a social network. Of course, no one will forbid sharing news with friends, we are talking about blogging on Instagram for a person or business, which will be of interest not only to your loved ones, but also to strangers. nine0003
Look at the pages of stars: they rarely combine photos with each other and generally bother with content, but fans are interested in any news from the life of idols. If you do not have a couple of million fans, you will not be forgiven for low-quality and uninteresting photos.
Start with an idea. Even if it’s hard to decide, and “taking pictures of everything that surrounds me” seems like the best way out, focus on a specific topic. Culinary blogs, profiles about proper nutrition, about dancing, about clothes, make-up - yes, Instagram already has it all. But you will do it your way. And people don't collect a list of subscriptions based on the principle "I already subscribed to a food blog, so I don't need another one." nine0003
Of course, if your idea is interesting and relatively new, it will be easier to move forward. But if you don't find one, don't give up. Maintaining Instagram is constant experimentation and finding a balance in content and interaction with the audience.
How to be in business? You need a concept too. Remember the character of the brand, decide on the tone of voice. Create value for subscribers: talk about topics related to your product. Consider that SMM from 2010, when beauty salons could post "10 hairstyle ideas" and get thousands of likes, is in the past. People won't subscribe to something they can google. Create authoring content: create a branded character or choose your storytelling style and list of topics you can cover. nine0003
Instagram profile design
At first glance, your account should be clear what it is about. Briefly formulate the topic of the blog in the bio and tell us about yourself. Typically, users enter their first name, age, and city.
How to get a business account to start Instagram?
The company account must contain contacts, information about the work of offline points and detailed conditions for ordering or recording. If you are unable to fit all the necessary information in your bio, you can use the multilink service. nine0003
Use emoji to highlight different information blocks in your bio. It is not necessary to choose bright and intrusive ones: dots, arrows, squares will look neat, but everyone will visually separate the text (name and topic of the blog) in meaning.
How beautiful it is to have Instagram
There is an unspoken rule: profile photos must match. Open the pages of bloggers again: you will surely notice that the pictures standing next to each other were taken in the same tone or overlapped with each other in vivid detail. nine0003
A Facebook study showed that users spend 0.2 seconds per post on the mobile feed. Therefore, your posts should be visually cool and catchy at first sight. Let's figure out how to manage Instagram to be qualitatively different from others.
Photos must be of high quality, interesting and well processed. Instagram has its own trends - just try to bring photos processed in the Retrica app to your audience.
Follow Audience Members to find the visual style for your profile. See what content they post, what profiles they follow. nine0003
It is not necessary to use professional equipment, but you will definitely have to learn how to photograph and process images. See the photos you like, save them, don't be afraid to repeat, you're unlikely to be seen through, but you'll get your hands on it.
Layouts - a separate big topic. Think this is a joke? Try to create something similar yourself. You will find that you don't have many items that match. And those that exist cannot be organically placed in the frame. nine0003
To make high-quality layouts, bloggers buy accessories (candles, sparkles, postcards, fruits, garlands, frames, flowers) and spend a lot of time on them.
How to blog on Instagram
In 2017, a new trend appeared on the social network: users are interested not only in photos, but also in texts. Thematic blogs have appeared that talk about proper nutrition, makeup, motivation, parenting, or just about your life. And judging by the number of subscribers on such accounts and interactions under publications, users are ready to consume not only visual content in contact, but also read texts, even long ones. nine0003
Therefore, the desire to create and maintain an Instagram blog may be a good idea. But first, how to lead it? As with the concept of an account, a blog also needs one. Define a list of topics you write about, designate them in the profile header.
Follow the pages of users whose content you like. Pay attention to how often they publish posts, at what time they do it. How the audience is asked questions in posts, and what topics the audience is discussing more actively.
nine0002 Instagram post contains up to 2200 characters. If your text does not fit in this size, move the part to the first comment, this is a common practice among bloggers. The problem will arise if there are too many discussions: then users will have to get to the first comment in the topic for a long time. Therefore, it is better to shorten the texts or split the story into several posts, publishing them under one hashtag. How to broadcast on Instagram
Anyone can broadcast on Instagram. After the end, it will be available, like stories, 24 hours. nine0003
To start the broadcast, go to the news feed, click on your profile picture (just like when creating Stories). Select the option "Live" in the horizontal menu below. Now by clicking "Start" you will be able to broadcast live on Instagram.
How to attract an audience to a live broadcast?
Warn your subscribers about the broadcast in advance: make an announcement in a post or story. Pick a time when your audience is online. To do this, analyze the social network account in Popsters. On the chart "Activity / Days of the week" and "Activity / Time of day" you will find the most successful days and times for live broadcasts. nine0003
Wait for a larger audience, don't jump straight into the main topic of the broadcast. But at the same time, you can’t lose the audience who have already arrived: figure out in advance what will take the waiting time. Tell stories about the topic of the broadcast or arrange an interactive one: answer subscribers' questions or, conversely, ask them about something.
How to start Instagram?
Keep step-by-step instructions for maintaining an Instagram account:
- Decide on a topic if you're blogging. nine0086
- Find a photo style and processing style that you will follow.
- Follow competitor accounts and profiles you want to be like.
- Fill out your profile: choose a bright avatar, write in the "Bio" section about yourself and the topic of your blog.
- Make several publications in the new concept. In order for new visitors to be able to get an idea about the account, 6-8 posts are enough.
