Moving chats out of WhatsApp can be helpful in different situations. For instance, you can share the entire history of a conversation with a friend, use it as evidence of who-knows-what, or create a backup of chats in case you lose the original chats. This tutorial shows how to export or back up WhatsApp chat history and the difference between the two.
Exporting chats is a manual process that must be done every time you want to transfer one, and it must be done individually. On the contrary, backing up is an automatic process and is done for every chat on your account. WhatsApp will automatically create a backup on Google Drive (Android) or iCloud (iPhone) at the desired frequency (daily, weekly, or monthly). You can even choose to update backups manually.
Secondly, the exported chats can be read on any device. You can open them on Windows, macOS, iPhone, and Android. Once the chat history is exported, it becomes separate from the original chat, and can be viewed by anyone. But when you back up WhatsApp chats, they will connect back to the original WhatsApp account, and no one else can view them.
In a nutshell, exporting chats comes in handy when you want to send the chat history to someone else or want to import it to Telegram, whereas backing up can help you store and retrieve your chat history if you change or lose your phone.

nine0002 Advertising on CHIP Contacts Saving correspondence is one of the most important functions of the WhatsApp messenger.
It allows you to save important dialogs with the possibility of further restoration. This is done with a backup. The messenger also provides for the export of individual chats to text files. How to save the chat history and restore dialogs - the instructions from the article will tell.
We will study three functions:
All this will help to keep the history of the most important dialogues and groups.
This functionality is relevant for owners of Android smartphones. The system for creating local copies with chat history is implemented here. And it works regardless of whether the user wants it or not. The history is saved daily at 2 am, it stores the correspondence for the last seven days. The task is simple - find the files you need and save them. nine0003
Chat history files have the *.
db.crypt12 format, their names indicate the creation date. Each of them stores the history of correspondence for the last seven days. The storage location is the /WhatsApp/Databases folder in the internal memory or on a memory card. To save your chat history, do the following:
To restore the history, rename the file to msgstore.db.crypt12, upload it to the /WhatsApp/Databases folder on your smartphone, reinstall WhatsApp and run the recovery suggested by the messenger.
The previous method requires some fiddling with files and may seem too heavy for inexperienced users.
It is much easier to set up saving to cloud storage - Google Drive for Android smartphones and iCloud Drive for iOS smartphones. The frequency of saving is user-defined:
It is also possible to save the chat history up to the last message manually.
Saving history is configured in the menu "Settings - Chats - Chat Backup". Setting instructions:
Saving history is configured - it will be created at the specified frequency of 2 am. If there is no Internet connection at this point, the save will be delayed until a connection is available. But subsequent messages will not be saved - only those that were sent / received before 2 am, when the last archiving was performed.
Do not trust cloud storage and local copies on your smartphone - store chat history on your computer's hard drive. This is done by exporting chats:
The chat history file is in text format and can be opened with plain Notepad.
