From group video calls to encrypted messaging, Telegram gives you all the tools you need to connect with people worldwide. Telegram's video call feature allows you to transform a voice chat into a video call seamlessly.

1. Use Telegram's Multi-Platform Support

Telegram's video call function works on multiple devices, such as computers, smartphones, and tablets. Extra screen real estate and display options are the biggest advantages to participating in a video chat on your computer or tablet instead of your phone.

Telegram's desktop and tablet apps give you the option to open side panel and split-screen views in portrait or landscape orientation, so you can easily see the list of participants in your video call.

To toggle your screen between portrait and landscape orientation, click on settings and scroll down until you see the record chat option. Then, click on portrait or landscape to select the orientation you prefer. Tap or click in the upper right-hand corner of your tablet or computer screen to expand your video chat to split screen or side panel views.

Also, voice chats open in separate windows on Telegram's desktop app, so you can type and talk without minimizing the screen. Plus, you can use selective screen sharing on the desktop app so that you can share an individual program instead of your entire screen, and when someone else shares their screen, they're pinned automatically.

2. Make Group Video Calls on Telegram

Before starting a group video call on Telegram, you need to create a group or go to an existing group where you're an admin.

To create a group on Telegram's desktop app, click on the compose button next to the search bar. Next, click on New Group.

From there, Telegram will show you a list of your contacts, or you can use the search bar to find people to add to your group. Click next once you've selected everyone you'd like to add to your group. On the next screen, Telegram will show you everyone you've added to your group. Once you've finished adding people, click Create.

After you've created a group (or gone to an existing group where you're the admin), you're ready to make a group video call. Click the three dots on the upper right-hand corner of the screen to open the drop-down menu and select Video Chat.

Once the call is active, you and other group members can click on the camera at the bottom of your screen to start the video chat.

Telegram's video call feature is also easy to use on Android and iOS devices. Like with the desktop app, the first step is to create a group or go to an existing group. Next, tap on the three dots in the right-hand corner of the group info page. Then tap Start Video Chat to place a video call.

You can select from several options during your video call by tapping the three dots to the right of the video chat box. You can also click on the square in the video chat box to use the video chat overlay feature.

This feature has a push-to-talk option that allows you to display Telegram over other apps on your phone, so you can see who's talking during a group video call even when you're using apps other than Telegram.

Up to 30 members of your group can broadcast from their camera or screen during Telegram video calls, and another 1000 members can watch your video call.

There are several useful Telegram features you may want to take advantage of while participating in a group video call. If you want to bring a participant to the forefront of your screen, just click on their window. Also, you can pin a participant, so they remain upfront when new people join the call.

3. Share Your Screen

You have the option of sharing your screen with sound when you participate in a Telegram video call.

To share your screen on a computer, click on the screen icon at the bottom of your screen next to the camera. Next, click on Share and broadcast your screen to the video chat's participants. You may need to adjust your computer's permissions before sharing your screen.

To share your screen on a mobile device, tap on the three dots on the right-hand side of the video chat window. Next, tap Share screen. A dialogue box will appear warning you that Telegram will have access to all information displayed on your device while you share your screen. Tap on Start now to share your screen with members of your video call.

Use the Noise Suppression Feature

You've probably experienced a group chat where background noise made it difficult to understand what the speaker was saying. Telegram has added a noise suppression feature to its video chats to ensure all of your chats are crisp and clear.

To toggle between noise suppression settings, click on the gear icon at the bottom of the video chat to go to settings. Next, scroll down until you see the Noise Suppression option. Depending on your preferences, you can toggle between turning noise suppression off or on.

To enable noise suppression on your mobile device, tap the three dots on the right-hand side of the video chat dialogue window to open the menu. Then tap on Noise suppression to reduce background noise and ensure you can hear whoever is speaking clearly. Like on desktop, you can toggle between turning the noise suppression on or off on your mobile device based on your needs.

How to Make Video Calls on Telegram App

Below are the steps on how to start a video call on Telegram on desktop:

Step 1: 

Open the Telegram application on your desktop and go to the chat of the person you’d want to call.

Step 2: 

You’ll notice a call icon at the top of the screen once you’ve opened the conversation.

Step 3: 

The app will make a call as soon as you press the call button. After placing the call, all you have to do is switch on the front camera to start a video call. Simply press the Start Video button to start the video call on telegram.

To make a group video chat in Telegram, you need a community. Create a new group and invite members, or host a meeting in a group that already exists. To start a conference, click on the line "Start a voice chat" in the community menu, select whether you are speaking on behalf of a person or group, turn on the microphone and speaker, and proceed to chat. Read detailed step-by-step instructions on how to organize a conference in Telegram on a computer and phone, set up sound equipment, record participants' speeches and share the screen with listeners.

How to make a Telegram video chat on an Android phone

Here are detailed instructions with screenshots and tell you how to create a Telegram video chat on an Android phone. iPhone users conduct a conference in a similar way.

1. Let's start by creating a community. Open the menu and select the first item "Create a group".

2. Add participants.

How many people are attending the conference? Invite up to 200,000 people from your smartphone address book. All members of the group communicate in voice chat without video. Video broadcast is available to the first 30 participants who join the meeting.

3. Think of a name for the group and set an avatar.

4. Tap on the dark blue horizontal bar with the name of the community at the top of the screen.

5. Click on the three vertical dots at the top right and select the "Start Voice Chat" menu item.

6. Choose on whose behalf to create an audio chat in Telegram: on behalf of the owner or community.

Participation on behalf of the group will protect the public speaker from excessive attention to the person and a flurry of comments.

7. To create a video chat now, click on the blue button and proceed to chat.

8. If you want to schedule a meeting for an upcoming date, click "Announce Chat", select a start time and send a notification to participants.

9. Click the round blue button at the bottom of the screen and turn on the microphone. The icon will turn green.

10. Tap the video camera icon to start a chat.

11. In the preview window, make sure that the phone's camera is working correctly and click "Broadcast video from the camera".

Use the icon in the lower right corner of the preview to test switching between front and rear cameras.

To join a remote meeting, a group member clicks the blue Join button at the top right of the screen and turns on the microphone and camera.

12. To invite new conference participants to Telegram, click on the gray icon with a plus sign under the list of interlocutors.

13. Select a person from the contact list or tap on the blue line "Copy link" and send it to the recipients in the messenger or by E-mail.

14. To turn on the noise reduction mode, change the name of the chat, adjust the rights of participants, show the screen or record audio, call the context menu by clicking on the three vertical dots on the black background.

15. To leave the conference, click the round red Leave button with the handset icon. In the modal window, confirm the exit.

If you want to end the chat, check the "End voice chat" checkbox. If you allow meeting participants to continue communication without the host, do not check the box.

How to create a conference in Telegram on a computer

1. In the list of chats, select the group of which you are the owner.

2. Click the Chat icon in the upper right corner.

3. Select whether to create a voice chat on behalf of a person or on behalf of a group, and click Continue.

4. To schedule a telegram conference with video in advance, follow the blue link "set chat time".

5. Turn on the computer's microphone and webcam.

Unlike group video chat on the phone, the desktop version does not show the user a video preview window.

6. Click the person icon to invite new participants to the meeting.

7. Click on the three vertical dots in the upper left corner of the screen window to access the chat settings.

8. To end the meeting, press the round red handset button.

To switch to full-screen chat mode and take a closer look at the person, click on the "Expand" icon in the upper right corner of the screen or click on the interlocutor. Switch between speakers and meeting attendees and zoom in.

How to hold a conference

With the ability to share a screen and show presentations, spreadsheets, text files and a browser, it is more convenient to hold a conference on business issues on a computer than on a phone. To chat with friends, iPhone with a wide-angle camera and Retina XDR screen or a flagship Android smartphone with a high-resolution screen is ideal. To open the Telegram conference menu in a small application window, click on the three dots at the top left.

In the full screen mode of a group chat, click on the floating menu items at the bottom of the screen window.

If the agenda has changed, select the first menu item "Edit Chat Name", enter a new name and click "Save".

To record the meeting as an audio file, click Start Recording, specify a name for the file, and click Start.

The audio chat recording file will be automatically sent to the community owner in the Telegram Favorites folder. The meeting organizer will be able to post an audio recording to the group to discuss questions and review material.

To rename a community or record an audio file in full-screen view, click on the three dots in the green circle at the bottom of the screen and select "Change Chat Name" or "Start Recording" from the menu.

Show the image from the computer to the participants of the remote meeting. Click on the first round arrow button from the left, select an application and click "Share Screen".

Select the "Broadcast audio" checkbox if you are showing your colleagues a video presentation with audio.

To stop screen sharing, click the Stop Broadcasting link at the bottom right.

To disable the microphone and webcam, click the second and third pop-up menu icons.

If you are attending a meeting as a listener and the microphone is loud, turn off your device or turn on noise canceling.

How to set up a conference

To go to the chat settings, click on the circle with three dots on the pop-up bottom panel and click "Settings".

  • If you want to add listeners to the conference without the right to ask questions by voice, activate the "New participants do not speak" setting.

  • If you need to connect a headset, select the "Speaker" menu item and mark the playback device in the list.
  • To connect an external microphone, click on the "Microphone" line and connect a new audio recording device.

  • If you are in a noisy environment, activate the noise canceling mode.

If the neighbors are undergoing renovations, relatives are vacuuming the next room, or sounds are coming from the street, take care of the speaker and fellow listeners and turn on noise reduction.

  • For more convenience, activate the "Hot Keys" toggle switch, select a keyboard shortcut and set a delay on pressing.

  • Copy the group video chat invitation link and send it to colleagues via Telegram, WhatsApp, Skype or email.

  • If you want to end the conference without leaving the video chat settings, follow the red link "End voice chat" and confirm the exit in the modal window.

How to record a video message in Telegram
