Over the last few years, WhatsApp has added a lot of privacy features. One of the newest is "View Once," a setting that makes it so any photo or video you send can only be opened one time.
Here's how View Once works, and how to enable it.
Like the name implies, photos and videos that you've marked as View Once can only be seen one time. After whoever you've sent the photo or video to opens it, it'll disappear from the chat. It'll also disappear if two weeks pass without them ever opening it.
To send a View Once photo or video:
1. Open up WhatsApp and enter a conversation or group chat.
2. Tap the plus sign icon, paperclip icon, or camera icon at the bottom of the screen to upload a photo or video.
3. Once you pick your photo or video and get to the screen where you can edit it and add a caption, tap the icon that looks like a circle with the number one in it. It should turn fully blue.
Tap this icon in the caption field to mark the photo or video as "View Once." WhatsApp; William Antonelli/Insider4.
Send the photo or video.
In the conversation itself, your message will appear to you as just the word "Photo" or "Video" with the View Once icon next to it. But others will be able to tap the message and see the media you've sent.
Important: There's currently no way to send View Once messages without attaching a photo or video. But if you don't want your text messages to last forever either, check out the Disappearing Messages feature.
What happens if someone screenshots your View Once photo? When View Once was first released, it had a pretty big security flaw: Although people could only open your photos once, they could still take screenshots, meaning that the photos would never truly disappear. And unlike Snapchat, you don't get a notification when someone screenshots your photos.
For most users, this is still the case. But WhatsApp has started testing out a new version of View Once that blocks people from taking screenshots.
While screenshot blocking is on, anyone taking a screenshot will only capture a blank screen. They'll also see a message saying that their screenshot was blocked for "added privacy."
WhatsApp is still testing screenshot blocking, and there's no confirmed release date for it. But as time goes on, more and more users will gradually be enrolled in the feature. Until then, be careful about who you send View Once photos or videos to.

Home How To WhatsApp introduces “View Once” feature to users: Here’s how to use it
WhatsApp's new messaging feature is something that's borrowed from Instagram.
WhatsApp's parent company Facebook has taken a page out of their social media service Instagram and is going to introduce the feature of being able to send self-destructing photos and videos within the app. Expected to arrive in the latest update, this feature has been the one of the main features of Snapchat from the beginning, but Instagram implemented it in their app as well a couple years back, and now finally WhatsApp seems to be following suit.
“View Once” will let users send photos and videos that, as the name implies, only be viewed once – after it has been opened by the recipient(s), it will automatically self-destruct. It will be gone from everywhere and cannot be forwarded, saved, starred, or shared; WhatsApp has confirmed. Any form of media sent using this feature will not be able to be saved by the recipient, even if the feature to automatically save photos or videos turned on in their smartphones.
Another thing to keep in mind is that if a media sent through the ‘View Once' feature is not opened in a period of 14 days it will automatically be deleted. WhatsApp has asked users to practice caution and send this type of media only to trusted contacts as just like in Snapchat or Instagram, the recipient can still take a screenshot of the media. It is not yet clear if the sender will be notified if a screenshot is taken of such a form of media, as in Snapchat or Instagram.
To use this feature, your WhatsApp needs to be updated to the latest version.
To send a media in the View Once feature, you simply have to send a picture as you would before. This means opening any chat, individual or group, and adding a photo or video – either via the camera icon or the paperclip symbol on iOS and Android respectively. Before you press send, press the View Once icon located to the right of the text bar. It is the number one symbol that has a circle around it with the signature green colour associated with WhatsApp. Half the circle is made up of dots.
View Once media can also be sent on the Web App, the Desktop App as well as on KaiOS.
Facebook said: "While taking photos or videos on our phones has become such a big part of our lives, not everything we share needs to become a permanent digital record. On many phones, simply taking a photo means it will take up space in your camera roll forever.
"That's why today we're rolling out new View Once photos and videos that disappear from the chat after they've been opened, giving users even more control over their privacy.
"For example, you might send a View Once photo of some new clothes you're trying on at a store, a quick reaction to a moment in time, or something sensitive like a Wi-Fi password. "
WhatsApp added that, like with personal messages, View Once media will be protected by their state-of-the-art end-to-end encryption so only the sender and the recipient will be able to view it. Messages sent via this feature will appear with a new "one-time" icon. After that the media will appear as "opened" in the chat history. View Once is rolling out to all WhatsApp users starting from this week.

Sometimes you need to send a message that would be better if it disappeared after some time. Now WhatsApp has such messages, and below we will tell you how to use them.
First, let's talk about how disappearing messages work and what the limitations are. nine0003
What are WhatsApp disappearing messages ?
All messages in private and group chats will be automatically deleted after 7 days, even if no one reads them.
This is handy if you need to share a personal screenshot or content that would be better off disappearing later.
However, these messages can be forwarded or screenshots taken.
Does this affect old messages at WhatsApp ?
No. Only those messages that you send after the function is enabled will disappear.
Can disappearing messages be enabled in group chats?
Yes, disappearing messages are also available in WhatsApp group chats. Only the chat administrator can enable the feature. In private chats, settings can be changed by both participants.
If the message is forwarded, will it be seen?
Yes, but only for 7 days. When the original message disappears, the forwarded message will also disappear. nine0003
Is it possible to recover such a message?
No, messages are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
Is it possible to automatically remove disappearing media from Photos?
No.
All media from the messenger will be automatically saved in the Photos app. Even if the photo or video disappears from the chat, it will remain on your device.
If you don't need it, go to Settings WhatsApp > Data and storage and disable Media autoload .
Step 1: Open the WhatsApp application.
Step 2: Open the profile of the person you want to chat with disappearing messages.
Step 3: Select option Disappearing messages . You will see a description of the function. Press Continue .
Step 4: Now press On to enable the function.
Now all chat messages with this person will automatically disappear after 7 days. When you open a chat with disappearing messages, you will see a warning that the feature is active.
Step 1 : Open a WhatsApp group chat.
Step 2: Tap the chat title.
Step 3: Click Disappearing messages .
Step 4: Press On .
To disable the feature, just go to the chat settings and change the option to "Off". Changes will only affect messages sent after the options have been changed.
WhatsApp also allows you to send photos and videos that will disappear immediately after the first viewing.
Step 1: Open any chat. Click the add media icon. nine0003
Step 2: Take or select a photo or video.
Step 3: Next to the submit button, you will see a "1" icon. Click it to make the media disappear immediately after viewing.
Disappearing messages and photo features are very useful, but it would be great if they added screenshot alerts as well.

Whatsapp photos are stored not only in correspondence. A file that you accidentally deleted from one location is likely to be found elsewhere: in a chat, backup, device file storage. If the search was unsuccessful, try to restore the image using recovery programs for Android and Windows.
Contents of :
All photos sent from the device or sent (received) via WhatsApp are automatically saved. Where are Whatsapp photos placed? On Android devices, you will find messenger media in a folder called WhatsApp in the internal memory. nine0003
How to find "lost" photos:
As a rule, if a photo is deleted from the correspondence, but not from the Smartphone Gallery, it can be found in the specified folders.
Note . On some models of smartphones and tablets, the folder with files from WhatsApp may not be located on the internal, but on removable media - a microsd memory card. This is usually found on Chinese devices with a modified (rooted) firmware.
Recovery method if photos are left in chats, but not in Gallery
New versions of the WhatsApp application announced a new feature: if you deleted a photo from the Gallery, then by going to the chat where this photo was, you can download it back to the gallery. However, this method of “rescue” is relevant only on the condition that you have not cleared the chat itself, the correspondence with its contents.
In addition to Media, there is a Backup directory inside the WhatsApp folder where backups are stored. The messenger generates them automatically once a day/week/month (if this feature was previously enabled in the settings).
By default, backups are made every night. nine0003
If you deleted a photo sent more than a day ago from the Android Gallery and chat, try restoring it from a backup. To restore files and correspondence from backup, you need:
It is important to consider that the copy will contain files from 1 to 7 days old. It is possible that the documents you are looking for will not be in the archive.
In addition, it is desirable to set up a backup every day (to prevent accidental deletion of data). You can do this in the settings, section "Chats" → "Backup copy of chats".
In the latest version of WhatsApp, media files and documents are stored on the server.
Any of them can be re-downloaded if the correspondence in which they were transferred was saved directly. You can do this in the mobile and browser versions of the messenger.
To open the browser version on a computer:
DiskDigger or Undeleter applications are useful when the correspondence with the desired image has not been saved, but it was previously downloaded to the smartphone's memory. The above applications allow you to find deleted files that have not yet been overwritten. The fact is that when deleting a file, it is not destroyed, but only marked as “suitable for overwriting”. Thanks to this, accidentally erased documents and multimedia can be found, especially if not much time has passed since the erasure.
nine0003
The algorithm of actions in the mobile versions of DiskDigger or Undeleter is the same (but consider the first option):
I should note that this method is ineffective and will work in rare cases (if root access to the file system is provided, which is now rare for modern Android devices).
For iPhone, the procedure is as follows:
Good to read : Can Dr Fone be trusted?
Frequently asked questions like this:
“In connection with the purchase of a new device, I transferred all information from Android to PC, made a WhatsApp backup, deleted the application from Android.
All photos and videos were deleted, after I found out that they were not on the PC either. I downloaded WhatsApp again - photos and chats were restored, but no videos, covers remained in the gallery, and they have weight, but they are not reproduced! There were very important videos with the first steps of the child and family videos…”
Step-by-step instructions for recovering video from Whatsapp:
Recuva analyzes the memory of the gadget connected to the computer and finds files with the required extension in it. Upon completion of the analysis, you can select the appropriate images and restore them in a couple of clicks.
How to use Recuva and PhotoRec (video):
The procedure for recovery is:
Forwarded media is saved on the devices of all participants in the WhatsApp conversation. Therefore, if all else fails, there is one obvious and simple way - to contact the one with whom the correspondence and file exchange were conducted.
The sender or recipient of the image you need can send it again, and you will save time: searching, configuring and trying to deal with Recuva and its analogues. nine0003
The best way to recover photos is not to delete or lose them. If you follow these steps, you will reduce to zero the likelihood of losing valuable information.
Simple steps:
The bitter irony is that these steps should be taken BEFORE you delete something, not afterwards.
So we advise, if you are already faced with the unpleasant problem of losing Whatsapp data, then take appropriate measures.
Is it possible to recover WhatsApp photos from the phone's internal memory (folder - WhatsApp photos) deleted when clearing the cache? nine0020
Theoretically, yes. In practice, it depends on many factors. First of all, this will require root access and the DiskDigger for Android application (as an option, Undeleter). We advise you not to hesitate, as photos may be overwritten by other applications.
On the phone (OS Android 10) deleted the WhatsApp application. Accordingly, all photos and videos were deleted. How to restore them?
. Photos and videos were dropped on WhatsApp. One fine day, empty windows appeared in the morning, then completely disappeared.
The easiest way is to ask the other person to send the files again. Since Whatsapp does not store these files on its server, you can only restore data from a backup if you have one (on your phone or in Google Drive). nine0003
When I open WhatsApp and they send me photos, they do not open. A notification appears: no sd card.
We did a flashing of the phone. When installing Whatsapp, what was on the old one was restored.
