Sending top quality photos on WhatsApp is difficult, but if you want to do so, it is very much possible both on your iPhone and Android devices; here is how to do so.

WhatsApp tips and tricks: WhatsApp is known to reduce the quality of the photos that you send and receive from both iPhone and Android phones. By default, WhatsApp reduces the photo quality by 70% for faster data sharing purposes. But sometimes, this can be very frustrating, especially if you need to share a high-resolution image for an official reason or just to keep it as a memory. But there is a way to bypass this auto image compression and send high resolution images on WhatsApp whether you use an iPhone or an Android device. To send WhatsApp high-resolution images, you just need to follow a few simple steps. Read on to find what they are.

While WhatsApp is great for instant communication and sending memes, it gets a little annoying when you are trying to send a really nice high-resolution photo as it keeps reducing its quality. With WhatsApp's auto image compression, these images often lose their soul and become hard to use. Well, do not worry. WhatsApp does have an option which lets you send high quality images very easily. There are two ways you can do it, to varying degrees of higher resolution.

How to send high-resolution images on WhatsApp - the simpler way

This is the comparatively easier method that you can use. While it will still not allow you to send a full quality image, it will improve the quality of the picture by a significant margin. You can do it on either iPhone or Android but this is not available on WhatsApp web version. Send WhatsApp high resolution images this way:

1. Open WhatsApp and go to Settings.

2. Tap on Storage and Data option.

3. Scroll down to ‘Media upload quality'.

4.Choose Best Quality.

And done. One advantage of this method is that you only have to do it once, and all your images from that point onwards will be sent in a higher resolution. However, it can be data intensive, so ideally unless you are on WiFi or have a large amount of mobile internet data, this will eat up your data balance quickly.

There is one other way, which, while a little longer, will allow you to share full quality images. This too, can be used on both iPhone and Android, as well as WhatsApp web. The only downside to this method is that you will have to repeat the steps over and over every time you want to send a high-resolution image on WhatsApp.

How to send high-resolution images on WhatsApp - the better way

Step 1:

Go to the chat or group where you want to send the image.

Step 2:

Tap on the clip icon next to the camera and WhatsApp payment icon in your text box.

Step 3:

Select ‘Document’.

Step 4:

Now browse through your files to find the image you want to send.

Step 5:

If you have any difficulties, the image should be in your camera folder.

Step 6:

Select the image and press ‘Send’.

Step 7:

And that’s it. You have successfully sent a high resolution image on WhatsApp

4 Ways To Send High Quality Images On Whatsapp

WhatsApp is a messaging platform that connects billions of users from all over the world for everyday use. If you see its popularity, that is increasing every day among smartphone users. That is the reason why it became one of the most popular messaging apps in the world.

Whatsapp is making connections among families, friends, relatives, classmates from long distances and very conveniently without any issues. People often say that they even think of spending a day without it.

Apart from all this, there is one thing that some users don't like about Whatsapp messenger and that is the inability to send high-quality images through Whatsapp. Yes, you may have heard of WhatsApp working on Sending HQ images & Pictures, But we still don’t know when we will be seeing this feature in future updates. And people do not want to wait anymore.

If you are also one of them who hates this thing about Whatsapp not allowing you to send the original quality image, then this article is for you.

For those who don't know Whatsapp has been designed for daily use and for that, it uses less mobile data to ensure you fewer charges. But on the other hand, it has the unfortunate result of negatively affecting the quality of the image.

To ensure faster data transmission, Whatsapp reduces about 70% of image quality by default. It is a good feature when sending images for daily use.

But, what about sending an image to someone who is a friend or family of you asking for the high-quality image that you shot with your camera. What will you do?

Thankfully, there are ways through which you can easily send high-quality images through Whatsapp to anyone you want. In this article, we will share 4 Ways to Send High-Quality Images on WhatsApp.

Send Image as Document in WhatsApp

This is the easiest and most used method by WhatsApp users. In this method, you send images via the document option in WhatsApp. Here's how you can do it.

Open your Whatsapp Messenger and Open any chat.

Now, you can see a paper clip icon at the bottom of the chat screen and next to the camera icon.

Click on it (paper clip icon), you will see list of icon menu appears and now, click on the documents option

Select the picture you want to send in documents from the mobile. And if you don't see your pic then click on the Browse other docs option on top.

Once you locate your favourite image file, select it and click on the send button.

This method works both on Android and ios. When using this method, don't expect it to be fast. As it depends on the file size and your internet speed.

Renaming the image

There is another way of sending high-quality images through WhatsApp without losing any bit. That can be done by simply renaming the extensions of the image files you want to send. Steps to do so -

Open your file manager and locate the image file you want to send.

Now select the image and rename it from PNG or JPEG to .doc or PDF.

Go to Whatsapp and send renamed files using the document option.

Ask the recipient of the image file to Rename .doc or PDF. to PNG or JPEG

Renaming image files extension works because Whatsapp is unable to recognise it as an image and send it as it is without compression.

Creating multiple images as a Zip

Another popular way of sending high-quality images using Whatsapp is to compress images to make them zip files. It helps to retain the quality of the image while transferring. Here are the steps

This method is helpful when you have multiple high-quality images to send. The recipient of the image doesn't have to rename every single file compressed in the zip folder

Use your file manager or some third party zipping app to compress the high-quality image folder.

Now, go to WhatsApp and select the zip folder using the documents option.

On the other side, the recipient of the images will only have to uncompress the folder.

This is how you can send high-quality images to your friends and family without losing quality on Whatsapp.

Uploading Images to the Drive & Sharing the Image Link

Lastly, we have this method left with us. It can be used to send even bigger files that you couldn't even possibly imagine. Using this method you upload your important image files to the cloud and give access to the recipient. Here are the steps to how you can do so -

Upload your images to either iCloud or Gdrive.

Select the image you want to share.

Right-click and select Get sharable link.

Copy the link and Share it with the person you want to in Whatsapp chats.

Send photos to WhatsApp in the highest resolution and quality

WhatsApp heavily compresses photos sent to your contacts. Let's see how to send images and videos with maximum resolution and quality.

Every time you share a photo on WhatsApp by sending it to another contact, it is automatically compressed and transferred, minimizing its weight.

WhatsApp is basically an instant messaging app first and foremost, not a photo and video sharing platform.

To reduce the traffic generated by users, WhatsApp images are compressed for fast transmission and reception. The application does not distinguish between using a WiFi network or a mobile operator's data network.

The quality, however, leaves much to be desired and, of course, is not even remotely comparable to the original photo.

For viewing on a smartphone screen, this procedure may also work, but if the goal is to send photos to WhatsApp at the original resolution, that is, with maximum quality, the standard behavior of the instant messaging client should be avoided.

WhatsApp reduces the size of photos to 1600 pixels on the long side and does not allow you to send videos larger than 16MB by selecting the Attach icon (small paperclip symbol) and Gallery or Camera (see this page). In addition, photos and videos are compressed, which reduces the importance of losing the details that are present.

By simply zooming in on a WhatsApp photo, you will notice that many details are blurred and the image immediately becomes "grainy". Not to mention that if more users "link" the same photo, the image will be more and more imperfect and far from the quality of the original. We've talked about this a lot in the past - it's a bit like applying JPEG compression multiple times to an already compressed image. The end result will be disastrous.

Use WhatsApp to share images in the highest resolution without quality loss

It must be said that WhatsApp does not allow you to share with other users only photos and videos, but also other file formats. With a simple trick, you can transfer images to WhatsApp without resizing or compressing them.

Whether you're using your mobile carrier's Internet connection or your home or office Wi-Fi, you can send full-resolution photos without loss of quality (and videos larger than 16MB).

Sending photos to WhatsApp in their original form will allow the recipient, for example, to print them directly or use them to compose high-quality works.

To send photos to WhatsApp in full resolution, simply tap the paperclip icon (Attach), then select "Document" and "View other documents".

The file manager that appears will allow you to select any file from your mobile device, including photos and videos.

Photos and videos that will be sent via WhatsApp will this time be transferred in their original size without applying any compression.

Using the method shown in the article "Send a message to yourself on WhatsApp and Telegram", try sending a photo to yourself using WhatsApp by tapping the paperclip icon, then selecting "Gallery" and using the technique shown above: in the first case, if the image will be resized to approximately 1.9 megapixels (1600 pixels on the long side) with a weight of no more than 160-180 KB; in another, the original image quality will be preserved.

To move faster, try using WhatsApp Web to access the photos you've shared with yourself.

As you can see in the image, in the case of images published as documents, an arrow icon will appear allowing you to download them locally. However, with the traditional approach, WhatsApp shows the preview right away.

In the second case, from Windows, simply right-click the image and then choose Save Image As from the context menu.

On mobile devices, just check the contents of the WhatsApp Images folders (here you will find images automatically resized and compressed by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp Video for videos) and the WhatsApp Documents folder (here you will find photos and videos that have been shared without losing the quality described above way).

The difference, as you can see in the image, is obvious: in the example, we were working with an image captured at 12 megapixels. Imagine the loss in quality that comes with normal sharing of a 48-megapixel image captured with Sony's new sensors: Megapixel: A myth in photography and gigapixel images.

WhatsApp, among other things, while creating a new default compressed image, also removes any metadata that may be present in the original photo (date and location taken, smartphone used, settings, and so on).

Things to keep in mind if you choose to share photos and videos on WhatsApp as if they were documents 128MB on iOS, 100MB on Android, and 64MB on WhatsApp Web.

Also, be aware that sharing photos and videos on WhatsApp as if they were documents:

1) The data traffic generated by WhatsApp to send files will be significantly higher than the "default behavior". If you're using a mobile operator's data connection, sending photos and videos at the highest quality may cause you to reach your provider's bandwidth threshold more quickly.

2) Sending and receiving photos and videos as documents will take longer than the traditional approach.

3) The recipient of photos and videos shared using the "Document" icon as above will not be able to view them: the files will be downloaded in their original size and can be opened in any application capable of managing photos and videos.

However, it goes without saying that the illustrated trick is great for sharing a limited number of images. If you want to transfer a lot of pictures and videos, you can create and share an album with Google Photos: Google Photos, an application for managing your archives and creating a backup.

The default setting for backing up photos and videos with Google Photos is High Quality: in this case, images will not be resized to around 1.9 megapixels like in WhatsApp, but to 16 megapixels anyway; instead, the video will be resized to 1080p. To get around this limitation, simply select "Original Quality" in your Google Photos settings: in this case, however, photos uploaded to the cloud will take up space and destroy the dowry available in your account (see also This page).

One final note: Telegram, an alternative messaging client to WhatsApp (with its creator, Pavel Durov, who has always been extremely critical of competitors: WhatsApp can never be a secure application: the word of the creator of Telegram), allows you to choose, send images in compressed format or in the original version, so no quality loss.

Transferring photos via the Internet

Often they order printing of photos downloaded from WhatsApp, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, Instagram. It should be taken into account that all services with an unlimited amount of uploaded photos, and even more so messengers, compress photos, which leads to a significant decrease in image quality. Sometimes they bring to print even from studio photo shoots thumbnails of images - Thumbs files that are created by the operating system or viewer programs (the same Gallery in Android) with a volume of several tens of kilobytes. A good quality file should be at least 700 - 800 kilobytes in size.

For best print results, it is desirable to provide image files of the highest possible quality. For printing on a sublimation minilab, even in RAW format is possible (except for photos taken by iPhone). It is possible to "develop" supported RAW files automatically or "manually". The cost of "manual" processing in the price list.

Still, you can transfer images via WhatsApp or VKontakte. More on that below.

Transfer photos via WhatsApp

WhatsApp, like all other messengers, compresses the images transmitted in messages to a size of 70 - 200 kB and a resolution of up to about 1300 px on the long side. But, starting from version 2.17.254, it became possible to transfer images up to 100 Mb in size via WhatsApp without quality loss.

It's quite simple. After pressing the paperclip icon - "attach files", you need to select the icon "Document" instead of "Gallery". Here you need to click "View other documents". The virtual folder "Recent" will open with the latest files from WhatsApp. And at the top left there will be a drop-down list icon that will open access to the phone's memory. The photos taken by the phone are in the DCIM folder.

It's even easier to send lossless photos via WhatsApp from a computer. To do this, by clicking the paperclip icon in the upper left corner, you need to select the "Documents" icon.

We do the same in the Viber messenger. In the lower menu, you need to click the "Send file" icon, immediately after clicking which the phone explorer will open.

Transferring photos via social networks

It is important to consider that services that offer uploading photos without size limits compress them. This results in a significant reduction in quality. For example, VKontakte reduces image detail and resolution to 2560 px on the long side, the compression algorithm interferes with colors. This is when loading using HTML5. When using the Flash loader, this value is even lower - 1280 pixels. Photos are loaded by the Flash uploader when you click the "Add Photos" button, HTML5 - by dragging the mouse into the browser window. To transfer photos without quality loss through social. network, you must also select the attached file through the "Document" menu item. What is not entirely clear even in this case, users note file compression by the VKontakte service. Therefore, the best way to store and transfer photos is cloud storage such as Yandex.Disk, Google Drive, Cloud from mail.ru, OneDrive from Microsoft.

Perhaps it is worth mentioning the Google Photo service separately, in which it is possible to choose the quality of photos in the settings - "original size" or "high quality".
