You will find below the steps to Delete and Reinstall WhatsApp on iPhone, in case WhatsApp is not working properly on your device or due to other reasons.

In order to Reinstall WhatsApp on iPhone, you will have to remove the current version of WhatsApp as installed on your iPhone.

Before you do this, it is really important that you make a backup of all your WhatsApp Messages to iCloud Drive. Once, a WhatsApp backup is available on iCloud, you can safely delete WhatsApp from your iPhone.

After this, you can download and Reinstall the latest version of WhatsApp on your iPhone and Restore all your WhatsApp Messages using the backup of WhatsApp that you previously made on iCloud.

Step-1. Backup WhatsApp to iCloud Drive

As mentioned above, the first step is to Backup all your WhatsApp Messages to iCloud Drive.

1. Open WhatsApp on your iPhone and tap on the Settings option located in bottom menu.

2. From WhatsApp Settings screen, go to Chats > Chat Backup and select Back Up Now option to start the process of backing up all your WhatsApp Messages and Photos to iCloud Drive.

Note: By default, the option to backup WhatsApp Videos is disabled on iPhone, but can enable this option, if you have enough storage space in your iCloud Account.

Step-2. Delete WhatsApp from iPhone

After making a backup of WhatsApp Messages and Photos to iCloud Drive, you can safely delete the current version of WhatsApp as installed on your iPhone.

All that is required to Delete WhatsApp on your iPhone is to Tap and Hold on the WhatsApp icon on Home Screen and select the Delete App option in the contextual menu.

On the confirmation pop-up, tap on the Delete option to confirm.

Step-3. Download & Reinstall WhatsApp on iPhone

Follow the steps below to download and reinstall the latest version of WhatsApp back on your iPhone.

1. Open App Store on your iPhone > search for and Download WhatsApp to your iPhone.

2. Once the download is complete, tap on Open to start the process of Reinstalling WhatsApp on your iPhone.

3. On the next screens, WhatsApp will seek permission to send you Notifications and access your Contacts.

4. On the next screen, tap on Agree & Continue to accept WhatsApp terms and conditions.

5. On the next screen, select your Country, enter your Phone Number and tap on Done.

6. On the next screen, select Restore Chat History option.

7. Patiently wait for the Restore process to be completed.

iCloud is actually the official method to backup and restore WhatsApp. However, sometimes it can be stuck for a long time when backing up or restoring from iCloud. In this part, we will not only tell how to restore WhatsApp Messages from iCloud, but also help you to troubleshoot problems met during the restore process.

This method requires you to have already made a backup to iCloud, and you will need to uninstall your WhatsApp and use the same phone number when restoring. Please make sure that you have signed in with the Apple ID that you use to access iCloud.

Step 1. Make sure that you have an available WhatsApp backup. To verify it, go to WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Chat Backup.

Step 3. Sign in to the app using the same phone number you used in backing up your data.

Should you run into any problems when restoring the WhatsApp messages, such as WhatsApp couldn't restore chat history, here are a few things to consider.

  • Justify that you signed in to iCloud in iPhone Settings.
  • Confirm that you are trying to retrieve data from the same phone number and iCloud account that you used when creating your backup.
  • Prove that your phone has enough space to retrieve the backup. To check the available space get to iPhone Settings, hit on General then About.
  • Justify that your iCloud Drive is turned on through iPhone Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive. When using iOS 7 or before, Documents and Data is in place of iCloud Drive.
  • If you used iCloud Drive to create your backup, you won't be able to retrieve the backup on any device not on iOS 8 or later.
  • If you have used your Apple ID to turn on iCloud Drive for any device, you will not retrieve data on your iPhone. You will only if it is on iOS or later.
  • Try restoring from a different network. Trying to restore in the geographical location from which you use most times works best with iCloud.

Method 2: Selectively Restore WhatsApp on iPhone from iTunes Backup

iTunes is another way to backup your WhatsApp data. The only problem will be iTunes can only backup and restore a whole iPhone data. Today we are going to introduce another tool that allows restoring only WhatsApp data of the iTunes backup.

  2. Open Setting in WhatsApp and tap on Chat. Choose Chat Backup and click on Back Up Now.
  3. After the backup is completed, enable iCloud Drive on the new iPhone as above.
  4. Download and install WhatsApp on the new iPhone, log into the same WhatsApp account with the old iPhone.
  5. Click the Restore Chat History option when prompted.
  6. The WhatsApp chat will be restored on the new iPhone once the process is completed.

Note

If the size of your WhatsApp messages is more than 5 GB, you may need to use iCloud+ plans or use iMyFone ChatsBack instead.
