  • Case 2. Import WhatsApp ZIP from Huawei to Huawei

Part 3. An Easy Way to Import/Export WhatsApp Conversation - For Android & iPhone

Part 1.Can You Import WhatsApp Chats From Zip File?

The answer to this will be YES & NO...

Yes, because it is possible, and no, because it doesn't work on every device as WhatsApp doesn't allow it officially.

The reason behind this is ZIP files that are imported in WhatsApp can be easily edited and used.

You can import WhatsApp chats from a zipfile by the methods mentioned in Part 2. But to do so, you need some prior technical knowledge and an Android Device.

But don't worry if you are not a techy, or if you own an iPhone, as I have explained a straightforward method in Part 3 to do it in one click.

Part 2. How to Import the Exported WhatsApp Chat from A ZIP File

Case 1. Import WhatsApp ZIP from Android to A New Android device

This method may not work for all android devices (as per my experience), but you canalways give it a try to make things work.

Prerequisites

  • Both devices must be Android.
  • Both devices must have the same version of Whatsapp.
  • Both Devices must have the RAR app.

You can follow the steps mentioned below to export your WhatsApp chats from your old device in a zip file:

  • 1Open WhatsApp on your old device. Navigate to SettingsChats. Tap on Backup to Google Drive and select Never. Then tap on the green backup button and let it back up all your chats on your old device.
  • 2Once the backup process is finished, open the RAR app and find a folder named Whatsapp in your internal storage. Tick the checkbox in front of it, and select the + icon located on the top.
  • 3On the next screen, select the ZIP option and click OK. Let it finish. After Completion, transfer the backup of your chats to your new device.

Steps mentioned below will tell you how to restore WhatsApp chat from the zipfile in your new device:

  • 1Open the RAR app and extract the ZIP file in the root of your internal storage.
  • 2Open Whatsapp and complete the signup process by entering your mobile number. After completion, you will be asked to restore chats from local backup. Click on Restore.

Let the process finish, and hopefully, all your chats will be restored from your old device to the new one.

Case 2. ImportWhatsApp ZIP from Huawei to Huawei

If both your new and old device is of Huawei, then you can easily share your WhatsApp chats from your old device to the new one using Phone Clone.

Prerequisites

  • Both devices must be of Huawei.
  • Both devices must be on EMUI 8.0 or higher.
  • Both devices must be on EMUI 8.0 or higher.

You can follow the below-mentioned steps to restore WhatsApp chat fromyour old Huawei device to the new one:

  • 1Firstly, open Phone Clone App on both devices. Select the option relevant for your phone. For example, on the old phone, select "This is the old phone".
  • 2After selecting the relevant options on both devices, the new device will generate a QR code that you have to scan with your old device.
  • 3After Scanning, both of your devices will be connected. Now choose the data you wish to transfer from your old device to your new one. (In our case, we will select Whatsapp Chat History, but you can share any data that you wish.)
  • 4After selecting, click on Send, and the transfer process will initiate. After completion, all your data and chats will be transferred to your new device.

The standard methods of creating WhatsApp backups are to use the built-in functions: iCloud and Google Drive on iOS and Android respectively. However, these cannot be read directly from another device unless you restore from these backups first, but that may mean losing your WhatsApp data and overwriting newer chats with older ones. Due to this, you may have created a backup and stored it as a ZIP file to restore from this backup to your phone at a future date. So, can you import WhatsApp chats from ZIP file?

  • Part 1: Can We Import the Exported WhatsApp Chat ZIP Files?
  • Part 2: Better Ways to Export and Import WhatsApp Chats

    • Question 1. How to read exported chat zip file with media?
    • Question 2. How can I convert a WhatsApp exported .text file as a real chat?
    • Question 3. Can I restore WhatsApp chats from .zip file from Google Drive?

Part 1: Can We Import the Exported WhatsApp Chat ZIP Files?

The short answer to this question is, no. You cannot export a ZIP file from a WhatsApp chat and then import it as a backup or in any other way. That is because WhatsApp only supports certain methods of exportation and importation. Although they allow you to export your chats, these cannot then be used as backups, with one of the reasons being they can easily be modified, and hence false data can be passed as real.

The only method built-in to WhatsApp to restore from a backup is by using a Google Drive backup for Android or an iCloud one for iOS. Even transferring from one operating system to the other doesn’t let you restore from a backup. However, this article will show you the best ways you can create WhatsApp backups and restore from them, no matter the device you are using.

Part 2: Better Ways to Export and Import WhatsApp Chats

Put simply, the best way to export and import WhatsApp chats to your phone is by using the excellent iTransor for WhatsApp program. This is a program that has a variety of functions built into it which let you perform various tasks for WhatsApp management, such as creating and restoring from backups, exporting chats in different file formats and transferring your WhatsApp information from one device to another.

With a 100% success rate, any task the program lets you do will be done almost completely automatically and safely. Furthermore, with the clean and easy to use user interface, you will enjoy the experience of using the program. Once you have downloaded and installed the program on your computer (we recommend the full version):

Step 1.Connect your phone to your PC via a USB cable.

Step 2.Launch the iTransor program and select the "Backup WhatsApp on Devices" feature.

Step 3.Make a backup with the program first (FREE).

Step 4.Then select the "Restore/Export WhatsApp Backup" feature and choose the chats you would like to export, along with the content within these chats.

Step 5.Select your file format (we highly suggest you pick HTML) and click export.

That’s all you need to do to export chats to an HTML file, which can then be viewed from other devices too.

If later you would like to import this back to your phone, even to another phone using a different operating system, you can also do this just as easily using the same program:

Step 1.Choose the "Restore/Export WhatsApp Backup" feature.

Step 2.Connect your device to the computer and click on "Restore".

For a complete detailed guide, you can go to our website and look through the different sections.

Part 3: Other FAQs about Export/Import WhatsApp Chats from ZIP Files

Following are some other frequently asked questions about export and import WhatsApp chats from Zip files.

Question 1. How to read exported chat zip file with media?

This is quite easy. All you have to do is extract the files saved in your exported file, such as the text file. This can be done by using Windows, Mac OS or third-party software, such as 7zip. Once this is done, you just need to open the chat.
But if what you mean is to read the text files exported with media files in it, the built-on export chat function cannot do. I recommend you the preview function of iTransor for WhatsApp, it’s totally free and you can read the chat with media files, just like the real chats.

Question 2. How can I convert a WhatsApp exported .text file as a real chat?

With the aforementioned iTransor for WhatsApp program, you can open the exported text file. However, the excellent thing about using the iTransor for WhatsApp application is that when you open the chat file, you can view it as a real chat (with features such as chat bubbles). This can be especially useful in group chats because it allows you to distinguish who sent which message without having to constantly look for their name within the chat file. Also, the chat is easier and more pleasant to read when it is in the format of a real chat.

On the other hand, what you cannot do is import this exported chat as a backup. That’s due to the reasons mentioned previously, where you have to either use the iTransor tools or official WhatsApp methods when creating and restoring from a backup.

Question 3. Can I restore WhatsApp chats from .zip file from Google Drive?

If you have created this .zip file on an iPhone, then you cannot restore the .zip file on your Android or even iPhone. This will be available for you to read (check question 1) but you cannot import it back into WhatsApp.

But, if you are looking for a way to transfer your WhatsApp from your iPhone to Android or vice versa, then we highly suggest you check out the iTransor for WhatsApp program. This demonstrates the flexibility of the program; it lets you do a lot of the things the built-in features of WhatsApp don’t allow.

To transfer all your WhatsApp data from one phone to another, make sure you have:

  • Installed WhatsApp on both phones.
  • Have access to data transfer cables for both phones.

Once you have done this:

Step 1.Connect both your phones to your PC.

Step 2.Choose the "Transfer WhatsApp Between Devices" option. Make sure you select the correct source and destination devices. (The source device is the old device and the destination device is the one you will be transferring the data to.)

Step 3.Click on the "Transfer" button and wait until all your data has been moved to your destination phone.

Step 4.Once the data has been transferred, you will be notified, and you will then be able to safely disconnect your devices.

This guide covers only some of the issues you may face when using WhatsApp, so feel free to browse the numerous other guides on our website regarding WhatsApp.

4 ways to transfer WhatsApp to another phone with full history

  • From Windows Phone to Android
  • How to transfer all data to a computer
  • When buying a new smartphone, WhatsApp users often have problems transferring chats. The program interface cannot be called intuitive, but the developers have provided several ways to save old dialogs.

All users are advised to set up a backup when starting the messenger for the first time. This option periodically saves all chats along with files on the user's device or in the cloud. The last storage location is preferable, because smartphones and tablets often break down and because of this, access to data can be lost forever.

The chat migration method depends on the operating system and the user's preferred way of working with files. You can send a backup to cloud storage or to external media (SD card).

Most Android users prefer to transfer copies of conversations via Google Drive. This method is very convenient, because you do not need to copy files manually. The new backup is automatically uploaded to the cloud. In order to transfer chats from an old phone to a new one, you need:

    1. Log in to your Google account.
    2. Log in to WhatsApp and open the settings section.
    3. Select the "Chats" tab.
    4. Go to the Chat Backup section.
    5. Select the frequency of Google Drive backups: daily, weekly, monthly, or at the click of a button.
    6. Specify the Google account that will be used to store copies.
    7. Select the backup network: Wi-Fi or wireless and mobile internet.
    8. Wait until the backup is copied to Google drive.
    9. Install the messenger on a new smartphone. Sign in with the Google account you used to create the backup.
    10. Launch WhatsApp on a new smartphone, log in and agree to the request to restore history.

On iOS devices, copying the conversation history is done through iCloud. The user uploads a backup copy of data from WhatsApp from the old device to the cloud storage, and then automatically after authorization on the new smartphone, the information is copied to the messenger. In order to use this method, you need:

    1. Open settings on the old device.
    2. Go to the iCloud section by tapping on the account name.
    3. Activate iCloud Drive.
    4. In the iCloud Drive settings, move the runners opposite WhatsApp to the on position.
    5. Return to the settings section and open the "General" tab.
    6. Go to iPhone Storage and make sure there is enough free space to back up the conversations.
    7. Open WhatsApp and go to settings. There, find the "Chats" tab and go to the "Backup" subsection in it.
    8. In the window that opens, select "Create a copy".
    9. Wait until the backup is created and uploaded to the cloud.
    10. On the new smartphone, log in to iCloud cloud storage using the account used to work on the old device.
    11. Launch WhatsApp, enter the details of the old account.
    12. Agree to restore data backup from the cloud.

Messenger backups are created with reference to numbers. If the user has several accounts, he can upload their backups to one cloud storage and then restore them one by one.

There is no official way to transfer WhatsApp backup from Android to iOS. But you can use the AppTrans program. It needs to be installed on the computer. Further procedure:

    1. Run AppTrans on the PC.
    2. Connect your Android device via USB in debug mode.
    3. Connect your iPhone to your computer.
    4. Make sure that the Android device is displayed in the program on the left and iOS on the right. If not, click on the Switch button.
    5. Click on "Transfer Now" and select WhatsApp from the menu that opens.
    6. The program will prompt you to create a backup copy of the messenger on iPhone. It is necessary to agree.
    7. After creating the backup, the transfer of the messenger from Android to iPhone will begin. When the procedure is completed, the iOS device will have a version of WhatsApp with all the necessary data.

The official method is only available for owners of Samsung smartphones and tablets. You need to download Samsung SmartSwitch to your computer. Further procedure:

    1. Run the program on the PC.
    2. Connect your Samsung device via USB.
    3. When prompted, connect your iPhone with a cable to your computer.
    4. Scan the QR code on your Android device using your iPhone.
    5. Tap "Start" and wait for the data transfer to complete.
    6. Open the messenger. Log in with the same account that was used on iOS.
    7. Click on "Import".
    8. Wait for the process to complete.

Smartphones on Windows Phone are quite rare, but even on them you can backup WhatsApp chats and transfer them to Android. But to do this is much more difficult than in the case of other operating systems. In order to copy the history of correspondence, you need:

    1. Unlock developer options on Windows Phone in the "Settings" - "For Developers" section. Activate this feature.
    2. Download to your smartphone and run Interop Tools. Give the program the permissions necessary for stable operation and go to the Interop Unlock settings. There you need to activate Engine Unlock and Interop Unlock.
    3. Back up your messenger chats using the App Data Manage Tool. Launch the program, find WhatsApp in the list of applications and select "Create Backup".
    4. Wait until the copy is completed and transfer it to Android. To do this, you need 2 programs: File Manager / Explorer and 8 Zip. They need to be installed before starting the migration. Use File Manager/Explorer to open the file at Device-Backups. Unzip the Data file with 8 ZIP. Find the messages.db file there and upload it to OneDrive or send it to your own email.
    5. Install WhatsApp and WazzapMigrator on your Android smartphone. Launch WazzapMigrator and select the backup file downloaded from email or OneDrive. After that, launch the messenger. It has detected a backup on your smartphone and will offer to restore it.

Direct transfer of information to a PC will not work. WhatsApp does not have this option. But you can send a backup copy of your data to a computer.
