WhatsApp on Android and iOS to get media edit shortcut, will let users doodle on pictures before sending them

WhatsApp is apparently developing a new feature that will allow users to quickly edit an image they have received in the app and doodle on it before forwarding it to others. The feature has been noticed WhatsApp beta.

India Today Tech

New Delhi,UPDATED: Jul 11, 2019 16:52 IST

By India Today Tech: Almost every week we hear of a new feature or the two that WhatsApp is working on. Earlier we heard that a QR reader may come into WhatsApp, something that will probably make the payments easier whenever the payment feature rolls out more widely. Now, we hear of another new feature. A report notes that WhatsApp is planning to add a new media edit shortcut that will let users do basic editing and doodling on a photo they received in a WhatsApp chat quickly.

While photos can be edited in WhatsApp even now, the upcoming feature will be useful for quick edits whenever you get a photo in a chat and what to forward it with some basic editing or by writing some text on it. The feature is already part of the beta variant of WhatsApp on both Android and iOS and should roll out in the coming weeks. The feature was spotted by WABetaInfo.

The website, which tracks WhatsApp beta variants and the features they bring, notes: "Has it ever occurred to you that you have received a photo, you copied or saved it, then you sent it again with some modifications? So, this is the feature for you! The Quick Edit Media Shortcut helps the user to save time and storage. It quickly allows to edit media you sent and receive in your chats and groups."

How WhatsApp Quick Edit Media Shortcut will work?

The website that reported on this feature also explained how it will work. The functionality apparently is the same in both Android and iOS. But it will be accessed differently.

-- In Android, once you get a photo, you will be able to press on it to open it directly from the chat. Then you will have to click on the "three dots" menu option on top right of the screen. In this drop-down menu, there is the edit button. Press it, and edit the picture or write some text on it, or doodle on it. Save it and reshare or forward the image. All from the WhatsApp chat window.

In the iOS, the feature works in the similar way. It's just that when you tap on the image, the button to access the Edit functionality will be directly on the screen, under the image. No three dots here.

The Quick Edit Media Shortcut is one of the features that WhatsApp is working on right now. The team behind the chat app is also working to add a QR reader to the app. Also in the works is the WhatsApp dark mode that WhatsApp users are demanding for a long time. The website that spotted the new feature in WhatsApp notes that the media shortcut feature is a minor update and hence should be available pretty soon, likely within weeks although for now there is no specific date for it.

How to edit WhatsApp photos before sending them

WhatsApp ... Of course, we all use WhatsApp, and if you use the application, it is very likely that you will also send photos. So, we will teach you how to edit and resize images before sending without leaving the application.

It's very easy to access the photo editor and edit photos, it's as simple as preparing to send a photo, when you click the send photo button, you will get a menu where you can add a comment or send it directly, because it's also whatsapp photo editor , and to use it we only have to look at the top right of the screen, where we will find several options. We'll tell you how everyone is doing.

Index

  • 1 Cut the image
  • 2 Add emoticons
  • 3 Add text
  • 4 Draw in the photo
  • 5 Add filters

Cut the image

Yes, this is something basic, but very useful. Maybe we don't want to add anything to our image, we just want to crop the image to show only part of it, it's as simple as the crop icon (second from left) and we can select part of the image. photo we want or flip.

Add Emoticons

Emoticons are a part of our everyday life and you can add emoticons to your photos to emphasize what you want to convey through the photo, so you only need to click on the smiley icon (smiley like when we say on behalf of the chat), and we can add emoticons as if they were images. We can also resize them to play with them.

It should be noted that the emoji will be in the form of your operating system, and not the default WhatsApp that we usually see. Android emojis have one aspect, Samsung emojis have another, and iOS, of course, has another.

Add text

If you want to add text to the photo itself instead of a comment, as if in History it's as easy as clicking on the text button (denoted by the letter "T") and we can write everything what we want, as well as paint in the desired color. We can also resize the text and change its color during and after writing. So if you want to change the color, you don't have to write it again. And, of course, you can add different texts.

Draw on photo

You've added emoticons, text, you've cut out what you want... Now you just need an artistic touch! If you want to draw on a photo, you just need to click on the pencil icon on the right, choose the color you want from the sidebar, and draw on the screen with your finger.

You don't have any brush or thickness options, just colors, but for a quick indication on a WhatsApp photo, it's perfect. If you change the color, the drawing will not change after coloring, so you can bring out your most drawing side and make your artwork in different colors.

Add filters

Hey, I don't want to complicate things, I just want to add a filter. I can't do it? Well, yes, even if you don't see any icon for it, it's as easy as swiping up and you'll access the filter menu. There are not many of them, but surely one will convince you.

Well, these are the options that WhatsApp offers you for photo editing. What do you think? Did you know them? Do you use them? Tell us!
