How to check whatsapp status without them knowing

Want to see other people’s WhatsApp status without letting them know? Here’s how

Home Tech News Want to see other people’s WhatsApp status without letting them know? Here’s how

People’s WhatsApp status are like Instagram/Facebook stories. If people check your WhatsApp Status you will get to know when you check the list. But there is a way to check others’ status without letting them know.

WhatsApp status' work just like Facebook and Instagram stories. They stay for 24 hours and you can add multiple status updates just like it is with stories on the other two Facebook-owned platforms.

But like on Instagram you can make a group of close friends and share stories that just they can see, incase you want to keep some content away from those who follow you there, WhatsApp does not have that option. All contact on WhatsApp can see your status if you post one.

There are instances where you might want to check someone's status and not let them know - just as it might happen on Facebook or Instagram. And there is a simple way to do it.

And it involves the ‘Read' receipt.

All you need to do to keep your profile from popping up on someone's status checked-list os by turning off the Read receipt.

Go to Settings, click on ‘Privacy' and turn off the Read receipts.

Now if you check someone's status, he/she will not be able to see your name on the list of people. Easy.

Like it is with turning off Read receipts that removes the double blue tick from your messages, it also disappears for all your chats and you don't get to know if others have read your messages or now - the same also happens for the WhatsApp status.

If you turn Read receipts off, you will also not be able to see who all have checked your status.

So you need to decide what's important to you and then take the plunge. Of course it's as easy to undo it as it is to do it. You can always go back into your settings and turn on Read receipts for things to return to normal.

A real sneaky ebay to do things would be to toggle the Read receipts off every time you want to see someone's status and not let them know and then turn it on after 24 hours. But this whole process seems like way too much work for far too little. People have been known to go to fascinating lengths though.

How to See Status Without Them Knowing on Whatsapp in 4 Ways

WhatsApp, the most popular cross-platform internet messaging application on the planet, has all it takes to be your first-choice texting application. It is easy to use, provides end-to-end encryption, and lets you watch Statuses of your contacts all day long.

WhatsApp Statuses are a great way to check out what someone is up to, but it is not as private as many would like. You cannot technically watch someone’s status without them knowing, not unless you are taking careful measures. Below, we will check out the top four ways of seeing a WhatsApp status without letting the poster know.

How does a user know that you have viewed their WhatsApp status?

Checking who has viewed your WhatsApp status is quite straightforward. After you upload your WhatsApp status, go to the ‘Status’ tab and tap on the Status you uploaded. At the bottom, you will find this eye icon.

Tapping on it will reveal the people that have viewed your Status and in the order of their viewing.

It is to be noted that WhatsApp does not keep track of multiple viewings.

How to see status without letting a user know on WhatsApp

1. Turn off read receipt

This is the official way of checking someone’s status without letting them know. You will have to turn off read receipts to stop people from knowing when you check their status. To turn off read receipts, first, go ‘Settings.’ Then, tap on ‘Account.’

Next, open ‘Privacy.’

Finally, turn the ‘Read receipts’ toggle off.

It is to be noted that turning off read receipts would also mean that you will not be able to when someone checks your WhatsApp Statuses. It is a double-edged sword that way.

If you are desperate to read Statuses without them knowing but still want to be able to see who sees your Statuses, you can toggle off Read Receipt just before checking a Status and turn it back on after the Status expires. That way, they will never know about you sneakily checking their Status. Remember that if you turn Read Receipts off, read someone’s Status, and turn Receipts back on again before it expires, WhatsApp will tell them that you have checked their Status.

2. Read in incognito mode

As you may know, WhatsApp also keeps track of your offline activity inside the application, meaning it keeps a log of everything you do while you are offline on the browser or the local storage of your mobile and syncs it with your online activity. So, if you read a status while being offline but connect to the internet, people will know that you have read their status.

You can avoid this by firing up the incognito mode in your browser on your PC and opening an incognito or ‘Private Tab.’

Open web.whatsapp.com, log in by linking your device, go to the Status page, let the Statuses load. Now, disconnect from the internet and open the Status you want to check out. After you are done with it, close the incognito tab.

By default, closing the incognito tab erases all your browsing history and saved data. So, the log WhatsApp had generated while you were browsing would be erased, and no one would be able to keep track of the Statuses you had viewed.

3. Disconnect the internet and read

This one is probably the oldest trick in the book. You have to go to WhatsApp, open the ‘Status’ tab. Let the Statuses load and then disconnect your phone from WiFi or mobile data. Then, read the Status you want to read but be sure to not turn your internet on until the Status expires. Else, WhatsApp will sync your offline activity with online and rat you out for good.

4. Read from file manager

This trick is for Android users only as iOS does not allow you to dig too deep into your file manager. If you have an Android phone, you can navigate to a special directory to check out some of the Statuses that WhatsApp loads for faster access. This directory will contain the unread Statuses and will not notify the owner if you view them from your File Manager.

All you have to do is navigate to this folder /WhatsApp/Media/.Statuses or Android > media > com.whatsapp > WhatsApp > Media > .Stauses using any file manager on Android and you should be able to read them without breaking a sweat. (You will need to enable hidden files to be able to see some of these folders on your device. Don’t worry, this doesn’t require root access, though.)

How to see the status of Whatsapp users without them knowing

WhatsApp is the most popular cross-platform messaging application on the Internet. It has everything you need to be your number one text messaging app. Whatsapp is easy to use, provides end-to-end encryption and allows you to view the status of your contacts all day long.

WhatsApp statuses are a great way to see who's doing what, but it's not as private as many would like. Technically, you can't view someone's status without them knowing, unless you take careful steps. Below we will look at 4 main ways to view WhatsApp statuses without being noticed.

How does the user know that you have seen their WhatsApp status?

Checking who has viewed your WhatsApp status is pretty easy. After you set the WhatsApp status, go to the Status tab and click on the status you just set. At the bottom you will find an eye icon.

Eye icon

Clicking this icon will display an ordered list of people who have viewed your status.

List of people who viewed status

Note that WhatsApp does not track multiple views, i.e. multiple views by the same person.

How to see the status without informing the user in WhatsApp?

1. Disable "Read Receipts"

This is the official way to check someone's status without informing the person. To prevent users from knowing that you're checking their status, you need to disable read receipts. To do this, go to "Settings", then click on "Account".

Account login

Next, open "Privacy".

Privacy

Now slide the Read Receipts toggle switch so it turns gray.

Read Receipts

Note that disabling read receipts also means you won't be able to tell when someone is checking your WhatsApp status. So it works both ways.

If you have an unbearable desire to read statuses without the knowledge of users, but at the same time you yourself want to see who views your statuses, then you can disable the Read Receipt function immediately before checking the status and enable it again after the status expires. This way, they will never know that you are secretly checking their status. Keep in mind that if you turn off read receipt, read someone's status, and then turn it back on before the status expires, WhatsApp will notify those users whose status you've checked.

2. Read in incognito mode

You may know that WhatsApp also tracks your offline activity within the app, i.e. keeps a record of all your offline activities in your browser or your smartphone's local storage, and syncs it with your online activity. Thus, if you read the status while offline and connected to the Internet, then people will know that you have read their status.

This can be avoided by enabling incognito mode on the browser on your computer and opening an incognito or "private tab".

Incognito mode

Go to web.whatsapp.com, sign in by linking your device, go to the status page and let them load. Now turn off the internet and open the status you want to check. After you're done, close the incognito tab.

By default, closing an incognito tab will erase all browsing history and saved data. Consequently, the log that WhatsApp created while browsing will be deleted and no one can track the statuses you have viewed.

3. Read while the internet is off

This is perhaps the oldest trick in this business. You need to go to WhatsApp and open the "Statuses" tab. Let the statuses load and then disconnect your phone from Wi-Fi or mobile network. Then read the status you are interested in and do not turn on the Internet until you are done. Otherwise, WhatsApp will sync your offline activities with your online activities and disconnect you permanently.

4. Read from file manager

This option is only suitable for Android users, since iOS does not allow you to dig too deep into the file manager. If you have an Android phone, then you can go to a special directory to check some of the statuses that WhatsApp downloads for faster access. This directory will contain unread statuses, and will not notify the owner if you view them from the file manager.

You just need to go to this folder - WhatsApp/Media/.Statuses or Android > media > com.whatsapp > WhatsApp > Media > .Stauses with any file manager on Android, and then you can read the statuses without any difficulty.
To view some of these folders on your device, you need to enable hidden files. Don't worry, root access is not required for this.

How to view whatsapp status without them knowing

Whatsapp status feature is widely used by many to share photos and videos with friends and family. The status feature also gives you adequate control with the ability to share it with all your contacts or favorites. Whatsapp shows a list of everyone who has seen your status. But what do you do when you want to secretly see the status of others? Well, there aren't many options, so read on if you're curious about how to view WhatsApp status without them knowing.

See whatsapp status anonymously

Methods that no longer work

Before moving on, let's deal with the elephant in the room. I'm sure you must have read about a few tricks by now, so before you waste time trying them, here are a few methods you should avoid.

In addition, WhatsApp addresses these shortcomings by constantly releasing updates, which is great (although not in our case). So, if you have read these methods somewhere, try to avoid them until you have enough time.

  • WhatsApp Web - You open the status tab in WhatsApp Web and turn on airplane mode. With updates, now the status is not loaded until you click and view the status, which defeats the purpose as you will no longer remain anonymous.
  • Third party apps (avoid if you don't want a ban) - will likely run for a while until they are disabled due to a violation of the WhatsApp Terms of Service. In addition, these applications can violate your data and privacy, so they should be avoided.

1. Own method - read receipts

Programs for Windows, mobile applications, games - EVERYTHING is FREE, in our closed telegram channel - Subscribe :)

This is the official and easiest method that allows you to secretly view the status of any contact on whatsapp. The best part is that it's a native way and you don't have to depend on crappy tricks or malware-filled third-party apps. For this method, we are going to change the read receipts setting. Let's see how it works.

Open WhatsApp and tap the menu icon in the top right corner of the screen. Then select "Settings" at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Now click on Account which is the first option under the displayed picture and open Privacy. In this section, you will find all the settings related to privacy, however, we are only looking at setting read receipts. You will most likely find this setting enabled if you haven't set it up before. Now disable the setting by clicking on the Read notification option.

That's it, you've successfully turned off read receipts, which means that whenever you view someone's status, your name will never appear in the list.

Disadvantage

If you disable this option, not only others, but you will not be able to see people who have seen your status. Another issue is that the setting is generic and will also hide read receipts (blue checkmarks) in regular text messages etc.0003

2. File manager

This trick will require you to use a file manager with the "Show hidden file" feature. Most built-in file managers don't have it, so I suggest using a third party app. I'm using Files by Google which has this feature in the settings menu.

To turn it on, click on the hamburger icon in the top left corner of the screen and open Settings. Now enable the "Show hidden files" option.

Before viewing the files, be sure to open the WhatsApp status tab so that it preloads the story. After that, open the file manager app, scroll down to Internal storage and select the WhatsApp folder.

At the bottom, open "Media" and click "Statuses" (hidden folder). Here you will be able to view all preloaded stories.

3. Flight Mode

This is the oldest trick that doesn't require as many steps as the first two methods.
