How to change the sound of an incoming message in WhatsApp on Android and iPhone

Many users express a desire to change the sound of a notification in the WhatsApp messenger. This is really a very convenient feature, because if a person has registered in several social networks, notifications can also come from them. In order not to get confused in the sounds from different applications, you can configure it in WhatsApp to distinguish it from extraneous notifications.

In this article, we will consider whether it is possible to change the sound of messages in the WhatsApp messenger, how to do it on an Android device and on iOS. nine0003

The developers of the service have taken care of the comfort of customers: you can change not only the melodies, but also set the notification tone, select the original sound for each contact separately. This means that users have full control over the amount of noise that comes from the application. The system works not only for calls and messages, but also for system sounds. For example, you can adjust the volume of notifications from a particular interlocutor, and optionally turn off notifications completely. nine0003

There are standard sounds in the messenger settings that can be configured at any time. If the customer chooses to select a custom WhatsApp notification sound, it will need to be downloaded from the device's memory into the app.

How to change the sound of notifications in WhatsApp on iPhone

To change the default sound of WhatsApp messages and calls on iPhone, you do not have to download any third-party applications. The user can use the proposed notification options, as well as download original melodies at will. To change the standard notification sound, just follow the instructions. nine0003

How to change the notification sound in WhatsApp on iPhone:

  1. Launch the official messenger on the device, go to the "Settings" tab.
  2. Click on the "Notifications" section.
  3. Select one of the suggested options: ringtone, messages or notifications. In WhatsApp, customers can independently adjust the volume and ringtone not only for calls, but also for other notifications. Once the sounds are selected, you can click on the "Save" button in the upper right corner of the screen. nine0020
  4. Restart the device for correct operation and save settings.

The above step-by-step guide will guide users to set the sound and volume for all chats. It turns out that all notifications and alerts from WhatsApp will sound the way the client configured them. If you want to choose a separate ringtone or volume for each chat, the procedure will be slightly different.

Setting the original notification sound for an individual WhatsApp contact:

  1. Open the messenger, go to the "Chats" tab.
  2. Select one contact by clicking on the screen. In the dialog box that appears, the user should click on the photo (avatar) of the interlocutor. Thus, he will go to the settings of this chat, where you can make changes.
  3. Click on the Custom Sound option. The screen will display the same settings as in the case of general alert settings. You can adjust messages, set a non-standard melody, or turn off notifications altogether for a while. Once the settings are ready, you need to save the changes in the right corner of the screen. nine0020
  4. Reboot iPhone to work correctly and save new notifications.

How to change the sound of incoming messages in WhatsApp on Android

The scheme of actions on Android is not much different from other operating systems. Users should also be aware that WhatsApp message sounds can be adjusted an infinite number of times. For example, if a client wants to put one of the ringtones from the service on calls, he can first listen to them, and then make a choice. If the original sound is loaded from the device's memory, you can select a specific point in the track. As in the previous case, the user's task is to follow the step-by-step instructions. nine0003

How to change the notification sound in WhatsApp on Android:

  1. Launch the official version of WhatsApp, go to the "Settings" tab.
  2. Next, click on the "Notifications" button. On smartphones with Android OS, it is depicted as a green bell.
  3. Edit the notification melody in the window that appears. Here the client can change the sounds of messages, groups and calls. In the same settings, the user can enable or disable vibration, pop-up notifications and their color palette. nine0020
  4. Go to the tab "Notification sound" ("Melody"). Now you can safely customize any sounds not only from the application, but also from the device's memory. As in other cases, after making changes, you should save them (tick in the upper right corner of the screen).
  5. Restart smartphone for correct operation.

If the user wants to change the sound of notifications for a specific contact, this requires several steps:

  • launch the WhatsApp application;
  • go to the "Chats" tab, select an interlocutor";
  • click on his nickname or photo;
  • in the window that appears, go to the "Custom sound" section;
  • customize the notification ringtone as you wish;
  • save and restart the device.

As you can see, the scheme of work on Android devices is quite simple, especially since it is a little easier to load original sounds here. If we compare the ease of use of the messenger, then most users find that the interface on Android is more convenient for perception when compared with the interface from Apple. nine0003

So, any user can change the sound of notifications in the WhatsApp messenger, regardless of his device. All actions take place through the settings, where customers can not only choose ringtones, but also adjust the volume of messages and vibration frequency. This is a fairly handy feature, especially if you want to distinguish notifications from different social networks. To edit the sound in a particular chat, just open the "Custom sound" tab, where the user can even put the original ringtone from the memory of his device. Using step-by-step instructions, each client can create comfortable conditions for using the WhatsApp messenger. nine0003
