How do you know who viewed your instagram story

How to See Who Viewed Your Instagram Stories

Instagram Stories were a big hit with users worldwide. They’re interesting, customizable, and make for great entertainment. It’s for this reason; they’re just as fun to view as they are to make. If you’ve taken advantage of Instagram’s Stories feature, you’d probably love some feedback about who is watching your artwork.

In this edition of the Tips and Tricks series, we look at how to see who viewed your Instagram story.

How to See Who Viewed Your Instagram Story

Almost everyone likes to share stuff, but the best bit about the whole process is discovering who has seen it. We all want to know who’s checking us out. Fortunately, you can see every person who viewed your Stories after you posted them. Here’s how:

  1. Open Instagram and tap on your Story icon in the upper left corner.
  2. In the lower left corner, you will see another users profile icon. This indicates that someone has viewed your Story.
  3. Tap on the icon to view all of the users who have viewed your content.
  4. If you don’t see the icon in the lower left, it means that no one has viewed your Story.
  5. If you want to double-check that no other users have watched your Story, swipe up from the bottom. You’ll see that no names are listed.

Now that you know how to see who viewed your Story, there’s still plenty to learn.

More people see your first Story than your last for two reasons: When someone swipes right, they’ll always see your first Story, and you can skip the rest of someone’s Story by swiping right instead of touching or clicking right. If you want to see who has seen all of your stories, including the first one on your screen, click the Seen by… in the bottom, left-hand corner.

How to Check Your Instagram Story Analytics

Analytics are slightly different from the views we’ve talked about above. While Analytics won’t tell you who saw your content, they will give you a lot of insight into how your Stories are doing. From how many other users they’re reaching to how many views you’ve had, Analytics is the perfect tool for marketers and influencers alike.

The next step is to check your analytics.

If you have a business account, this list will appear so that you can do the following:

  • Track how many people view your story
  • Press next
  • Exit your story
  • Follow the person because they saw your story

The above features are helpful if you want to grow a decent following on your Instagram account.

  • To view your analytics, click or press the graph icon (marked by the red box on the screen) to view the page. If you’re not worried about growing a channel, these statistics won’t mean much to you, but they are cool to see.
  • To exit these screens, click back on your phone, and you will return to the home screen.

When it comes to privacy, only you can see who has visited your Story and how many visits it had. If it’s a total failure, you’ll be thankful for this little detail.

As you can see, viewing who saw your Instagram Stories is not that complicated. Just follow the above guide, and you’re good to go!

Should You Be Concerned About Someone Viewing Your Stories?

With respect to the internet and social media, in particular, a lot of users are left wondering, “When should you be concerned about your privacy?” There isn’t exactly a cookie-cutter answer here. There are several reasons you may want to see who’s checking out your content.

Are you trying to impress one person, and you’re hoping that they’re noticing? Are you trying to track your path to Instagram fame? Or are you worried that someone is viewing your content for nefarious purposes?

If you’re wondering whether or not a crush or an influencer is noticing your Stories, it would probably be easier to ask them if they saw it, had any tips, or liked it since you can’t see how many times they viewed it.

Assuming you’d like to track your path to fame, switch your Instagram account to a Professional Account where you can get real-time updates and analytics.

Lastly, if someone is stalking or harassing you, block them. It’s that simple, honestly. You can also report abusive users and those who use your Instagram story for reasons that go against the Community Guidelines.

Is It Possible to View a Story Without the Creator Knowing?

If you’re concerned about your security or an Instagram stalker, you may be curious to know if someone can view your Story without detection. While some third-party apps and websites claim to do this, most don’t actually let anyone view your content if it’s private and they aren’t your friend.

There is one workaround that many Instagram users swear by, but it can be a little tricky and only shows a preview of the Story. If you aren’t familiar with every function of Instagram’s Stories, it is possible to pause and preview the next one undetected.

By choosing a Story to the right of yours, the user could long-press the current Story and slowly drag the screen to the right where they could preview your Story. Since the user never actually opened your Story all the way, you’d never know they were interested.

However, if they happened to scroll all the way to the right, Instagram would recognize that they did open your Story, and you’d get a notification. So, like we said, it can be tricky.

Frequently Asked Questions

In case our article didn’t answer all of your questions, we’ve included more information here.

Can someone tell how many times you viewed their Story?

No, but there are some theories that those who view the stories the most will appear at the top of the list. If you suspect that someone is viewing your Story multiple times and you don’t want them to, it may be a good idea to hide your Story from them altogether. You can do this when posting, select the option for who to share your Story with, and exclude that person if there’s a concern.

Can someone tell if I screenshot a story?

Instagram tends to go back and forth on this, but currently, no. Only Direct Messages with photos on Instagram send screenshot alerts. It’s best to avoid putting anything online you wouldn’t want someone to save for later.

Can I tell who viewed my profile?

No, the only indicator that someone is snooping around is if they interact with your profile. For example, click on your Story, comment, like, share, etc.

Can I see who viewed my Instagram Story after 24 hours?

Only if you’ve set your Instagram account settings to archive your stories, visit the horizontal three-dot icon from your Profile page to access your Archives. According to Instagram, the Stories in your archive folder will only show your viewers for 48 hours, so if you want to investigate who viewed your Stories, you’ll need to act quickly.

Can You See Who Viewed Your Instagram Story?

Plus how to hide it from specific people

Do you think someone’s secretly spying on your Instagram stories? Is that even possible? Well, it is. Luckily, Instagram lets you see people who viewed your Instagram story. But you may not be able to see everyone who viewed your stories, especially if they’re using third-party/unofficial apps.

This tutorial covers different ways to see who viewed your Instagram story. You’ll also learn how to hide your stories from specific people.

Who Viewed Your Instagram Story? How to Check

Instagram stories have an “Activity” card where you can see who viewed content you upload. You can even check how people interacted with your stories if you’re running a business account.

You check who viewed your Instagram story when it’s on your profile and even 24 hours after it disappears.

    1. Tap the Your Story circle in the top-right corner of the Instagram homepage feed to view your story/stories.
    2. Alternatively, head to your Instagram profile and tap your profile picture or icon.
    3. Tap the profile photos in the story activity section—bottom-left corner of your screen. You can also swipe up from the bottom of your screen to reveal the “Activity” card. You should see people who viewed your story.

Different stories can (and may) have different viewers and view counts. So, if you uploaded multiple stories, select each story to check their viewers. Instagram records replays of your story. Hence, a story view count may be more than the number of viewers.

Say your story has 25 views, but there are only 16 people on the list of viewers. That’s because some accounts viewed your story multiple times.

If someone liked your story, you’d see a red heart emoji in the bottom corner of the person’s profile picture.

A “No one has seen this yet” message will appear on the screen if nobody has viewed your story.

The story activity dashboard for Instagram Professional and Business accounts is slightly different and more advanced. An “Insight” tab shows you more information about your story activities.

Tap the histogram or chart icon in the top-right corner of the story activity dashboard. You’ll find a summary of several key insights about your story—accounts reached, impressions, content interaction, etc. Data from these story insights can help improve engagement and grow your business.

Can Someone Secretly View Your Instagram Story?

Yes, people can view your story anonymously, but not through the official Instagram app. Some third-party apps and websites allow people to view Instagram stories without the account owner’s knowledge. InstaStories is a popular website for secretly viewing and downloading stories of Instagram users with a public profile.

All you need to view someone’s Instagram stories on these services is the person’s username. The platforms are often free, and you don’t even need to have an Instagram account.

Note: Third-party services that prompt you to link your Instagram account to their apps may be unsafe. Sometimes, they are unreliable and fail to work. Avoid providing your Instagram login credentials to third parties unless you have to.

You should know that you cannot view expired or deleted stories on Instagram or third-party tools. Instagram stories expire 24 hours after the time of upload.

There’s currently no way to anonymously view the stories of Instagram users with a private profile—not even with third-party tools. They can always check who viewed their stories—there’s nowhere for viewers to hide. Likewise, you must be following a private account before viewing the person’s status.

How to Check Instagram Story Viewers After 24 Hours

Instagram deletes content on your story after 24 hours. You can no longer access deleted or expired stories from your profile or homepage. The content also becomes unavailable to your followers and public viewers.

However, Instagram provides a further 24-hour period to see who viewed your story after it disappears from your profile. So in total, you can see who viewed your Instagram stories 48 hours after they’re uploaded.

    1. Open your Instagram profile, tap the hamburger menu icon, and select Archive.
    1. Tap the drop-down menu icon at the top of the page and select Stories archive.

You’ll find a collection of old (and expired) stories you’ve posted on your profile on the “Stories Archive” page.

    1. Select an item on the list and swipe up to see who viewed the story in the last 48 hours. Alternatively, tap the profile icon(s) in the bottom-left corner. That’ll also open the story activity card.

Instagram may display only the number of views without showing the usernames of the people who viewed your story. That usually happens when the story has recently expired after 24 hours. Closing and reopening the Instagram app might resolve the issue.

If you still can’t see the usernames of people who view your story, wait for some minutes and check again.

Take Charge of Instagram Story Views

There are different ways to dictate who can view your Instagram Stories. You can either make your profile private, create a “Close Friends” list, or hide stories from specific people.

    Make Your Instagram Private

Only people following you can view and share your Instagram posts and stories when you make your page private. Here’s how to make your account private on iPhones and Android devices:

    1. Tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner of the Instagram app to open your profile page. Tap the hamburger menu icon in the top-right corner and select Settings.
    2. Tap Privacy.
    3. Toggle on Private Account and tap Switch to Private to proceed.

You may get a prompt to review your followers. We recommend that you go through the list and remove people you don’t want to view your stories.

    1. Tap Review Followers and tap the Remove button next to the usernames you want to remove from the list.
    Create a Close Friends List

Creating a Close Friends list lets you share stories with a select number of people. Only people on the list can view your story. The best part is that you can add as many people as you want to your Close Friends list.

People on the list will know they’re on it, but they can’t see other people on the list. Only you have access to that information. Here’s how to create a Close Friends list and share stories with people on the list.

    1. Open your Instagram profile, tap the hamburger menu icon, and select Close Friends.
    1. Tap the Add button next to the people you want to add to your Close Friends list. Or, tap Remove to take out someone from the list.

You’ll see a green badge next to the profile picture of people you add to the list. There’s a search bar to find people you want to add quickly. Type the person’s username in the search bar, and tap Add to include them in your Close Friend list.

You can add anyone to your Close Friends list—people who aren’t following you and people you don’t follow.

    1. Tap the x icon in the top-left corner to return to the previous page.

Instagram doesn’t notify people you added or removed from your Close Friends list. When you share stories with your Close Friends, people on the list will see a green ring around your profile picture. That tells them they’re on your Close Friends list.

Hide Instagram Stories from Specific People

Instagram lets you hide your stories from specific Instagram users—similar to WhatsApp, Facebook, and other popular social media platforms. Here’s how to get it done:

    1. Open your Instagram profile, select the menu icon, and tap Settings.
    2. Tap Privacy.
    3. Select Story.
    1. Tap Hide Story from.
    2. Select the users you want to hide your story from and tap Done.

Note that hiding your stories also hides your live videos from restricted users. These are currently the three effective methods to gatekeep your Instagram stories. We’ll update this article when Instagram introduces more story-related privacy features in the future.

Is there a way to find out how many times someone has viewed your Instagram story?

Have you ever wondered who actually views the stories you add to your Instagram account? And can you tell if someone has watched it more than once? Well, there is no need to be surprised, because we will answer all these questions and many more.

    What is an Instagram Story?

Instagram allows you to add content that disappears after 24 hours. This is separate from your posts, which are visible on your profile. You can set privacy on your account to control who can view these disappearing stories. Instagram has also added a feature (Private Stories) that allows you to create custom audiences for your stories.

You can also repost content to your story so others can easily find it. Clicking on the repost will take you to the original content. If you want your story to last longer than the 24-hour limit, you can save it to Highlights. Your saved history will be available on your profile.

How to find out who viewed your story on Instagram

Instagram lets you know who viewed your story in the app. It also lets you know the order in which your history was viewed. This way, you can probably guess who has notifications for your stories.

To find out who viewed your Instagram story, launch the app and click on your story in the top left corner.

At the bottom of the story, you should see a "Who Sees" button with images above it. This means that your story has been viewed. Next to the "Who's watching" box is a number that represents the number of people who viewed your story, i.e. 100 people saw them.

Click the Seen button to open a list of people who have viewed your story.

Alternatively, you can simply scroll through the history.

Do you see how many times someone views your Instagram story?

Although you can see who has viewed your story, it is not possible to tell if a person has viewed your story more than once. The generated list is based on who viewed your story and when. It is not restored if the user views your history again at a later stage.

Every time a new user views your story, they are added to the top of the list. However, if a person who has already viewed your story before reviewing it again, their name will not rise to the top of the list. This means you can't tell if a person has viewed your story once or a hundred times.

Can you tell if someone is taking screenshots of your story?

No, Instagram doesn't notify you if a user takes a screenshot of your story. While some apps, such as Snapchat, immediately notify the user when someone captures their story, there is no way for Instagram to tell the same.

In fact, even if a user shares your story with someone, you won't get a notification.

How to know if someone is taking a screenshot of your DM photo

A new app update now notifies you when a user takes a screenshot of your profile photo. To be clear, you will only get a notification when you send a live photo (taken from your camera) to a person and they take a screenshot. The same does not apply to messages, direct messages, or sent stories.

When a person takes a screenshot of your photo in their account, it will bring this conversation to the top of the list. Your DM list will also say "Screenshot".

In addition, you can check if a person has a screenshot of your photo in their account by opening a chat. A screenshot symbol will appear next to the photo you sent.

    What about Snapchat?

So Snapchat tells you how many times your Snapchat story is viewed?

In this aspect, Snapchat follows the same rule as Instagram. The app doesn't let you know if a user has viewed your story more than once. Until a recent update, there was a trick to detect if someone was viewing your story again (because their name jumped to the top of the viewer list). However, a recent update got rid of this feature.

The list of viewers is now simply populated based on the order in which the story is viewed. This way, even if the person views your story again, their name won't move to the top of the list.

What about other social media apps?

Do any social media apps tell you how many times a user views your story?

Currently, none of the popular social media applications allow this. They all seem to follow the same ideology - they don't want users to know that someone has viewed their story multiple times.

Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Snapchat allow you to see who has viewed your story, but do not tell you if someone has viewed it again. In fact, their viewership lists fill out the same way. Once a person has viewed your story, their name will not move to the top if they view it again.

So currently you have no way of knowing who has viewed your Instagram story more than once. Do you think Instagram should add this feature? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Netizens are wondering how to find out who viewed an Instagram story. Social networks are a fairly powerful tool for personal promotion. To evaluate the effectiveness of using the messenger, it is worth getting additional information about its functionality.

This data will be useful not only for novice bloggers, but also for advanced messenger users.

No. Only you can see who has seen the story.

    • Open the News tab at the bottom of the screen.
    • At the very top we touch on our history.
    • In the lower left corner, touch the inscription "Viewed".
    • On the page that opens, you can see those who watched the story.
    • Statistics are available for 24 hours, then the history is archived;
    • It will not work to find out who watched the current on Instagram;
    • You can also view detailed statistics;

    • Sometimes celebrities watch stories (find out why).

Do other users also see those who have watched stories?

No. Only you can see who has seen the story.

Video lesson on the topic: on Instagram you can see who watched the stories.

The current functionality of the official Instagram mobile application allows you to view Stories view statistics in just a few clicks. The browser-based desktop version does not provide such an opportunity - there was also no news about its introduction in the future. Of course, you can use special tools or third-party clients (for example, using browser plugins), but this is no longer so convenient.

The sequence of actions is as follows:

    • Go to the application, open the news feed.
    • Find the icon with your own photo in the top panel, click on it.
    • In the open history, we find an icon in the form of a human eye at the bottom of the screen, to the right of which there is a view counter.
    • Click on the views counter to open the list of viewers.

Viewer's name and photo will be displayed in the list. When clicked, you can get to the profile, as well as block a specific user by clicking on the "Hide my stories" button. Statistics are available only to the author - no one else can see it. The “eyes” icon will appear only after at least one user has viewed your “story” - its absence means that no one has seen the story.

Instagram also allows you to track how many times a particular user has viewed your story. To do this, you need to scroll through the resulting list in the statistics and calculate the frequency of occurrence of the same profile. The algorithm for how this list is built is simple - usually the views are ranked in chronological order. If the user who viewed Stories constantly communicates with you, then his profile will always be at the top of the list.

Since Stories are usually published sequentially and contain several photos or videos, when promoting, you have to check whether subscribers watch all the stories to the end (to find out how interesting the published content is to the viewer). Typically, the evaluation is carried out according to the following algorithm:

    • Check the number of views on the first and last stories from a series of publications.
    • The second number is divided by the first.
    • The result is multiplied by 100%.

The indicator demonstrates how many subscribers "penetrate" the user's stories and watch them to the end. The result is quite plausible, since officially Instagram does not allow viewing other people's stories anonymously (for this you need to use special programs that not everyone knows about).

Although you can’t check who viewed your photos on Instagram, you can only see the number of likes; there is an opportunity to see who viewed the story on instagram.

Why you can't see who viewed your story on Instagram

There are several reasons why you can't see who viewed your story on Instagram:

  • visitors use third-party programs for anonymous browsing;
  • you have opened access to too few subscribers;
  • you need to update the Instagram app or phone firmware version;
  • the program does not work correctly and you need to clear the data in the smartphone settings.

In other cases, on mobile gadgets, information about Instagram story views is available.

To see who has seen your story, open it and swipe up on the screen. You'll see the number of views as well as the usernames of the people who viewed the photo or video in your story. The list of people who have viewed your story is only available to you.

Owners of closed pages will have to switch to an open one, and after that, register a business account on Facebook and transfer Instagram to the same status.

Ways to find out who has viewed the Story and how many times

In addition to the fact that Instagram has removed the views of Stories, applications and services aimed at statistical data are gradually being blocked. At the time of 2019, only three services are designed for the analysis of publications and Stories.

Information is collected through a business account - viewing statistics is not available on personal pages.

How to view views History:

  • view statistics;
  • service.

But it will not be possible to view a specific user if more than 24 hours have passed. In the LiveDune service, the account owner will also see Stories, that is, a pivot table. It can be downloaded in Excel format, view information on attracted accounts, coverage.

In the service, you can also analyze the statistics of other users, upload comments and current coverage. Information about publications is presented in the form of a chart, and for Stories - the number of views, attracted users and responses.

With other services blocked, LiveDune remains the only one that works with Instagram Stories.

Method 1: statistical data

To view full application statistics, the user needs to connect a business account. This is available to all users who have a personal public profile.

Owners of closed pages will have to switch to an open one, and after that, register a business account on Facebook and transfer Instagram to the same status.

To activate business functions on an open page:

  • Log in to Instagram.
  • Go to " Settings " - Account.
  • Connect a business profile - follow the instructions.

You don't have to create a Facebook profile to join the business community. But this is an additional security system and the ability to quickly log in to a social network.

To view Stories, you need to post a new post and wait for the first views. The information is updated within one hour as soon as the viewers have appeared.

Instructions on how to see the number of viewers:

  • Go to the Feed - Stories .
  • Click on the latest publication - icon below "Statistics ".
  • Before deleting from Stories, a list of those who viewed the photo or video will also appear on the screen.

Two tabs will be available in Current and Archive, where the second one is " Pages of users ". This information will be unavailable, and in the statistics tab, the number of clicks, coverage, and so on will appear.

Does not show Stories views on Instagram if a new version of the app is installed. The profile owner can install an older update.

Method 2: LiveDune service

Analytics service task: account statistics, search for bloggers to advertise services, check popular pages, and download PDF and PNG data. The range of features is designed for free, trial and advanced versions.

With a free plan, the user has access to statistical information, which can also be viewed on Instagram. At the same time, each section is shown in the diagram, the indicators of the organic audience and the engaged audience are highlighted.

How to use LiveDune to view Stories:

  • Enter the site - click " Register ".
  • Enter your email address and password.
  • Connect the first page - wait for the download to finish.
  • Click on the panel of your page or Dashboard - Stories .

Only Stories published after being added to LiveDune will appear. The service does not work with old posts, so you can only see current information.

To download data to a computer or learn more, you should:

  • Go to the " Summary " tab.
  • Select " Export to PDF " from above.
  • Statistics will appear in a new tab as a file.

But it is impossible to see users who have seen the History in this way. The analysis is based on the data that the owner can see on Instagram himself. The service acts as a variant of summary data systematization.

If a poll sticker is added to your story, then many users can even see who chose which answer options.

So, you are visible at a glance. If you want to watch someone and not "burn out", register a second account or use invisibility using third-party applications (for example, Repost Stories for Instagram or others).

The list of people who can see your stories depends on your profile privacy settings. If the page is closed, only followers are allowed to view "stories" (synonymous with Stories for the Russian localization of Instagram). Outsiders will not be able to view.

Can you see who viewed my Instagram story?

It is impossible to understand who viewed regular posts on Instagram. This distinctive feature is present only in stories. Some social network subscribers post a lot of photo and video content in a day. In this case, they can study the statistics for each individual publication and analyze their regular subscribers.

If the account is open, stories will be visible in the feed for everyone. The user does not need to be subscribed to the page. He can simply click on the avatar and see a list of your stories. Also, Instagram services selectively add some Stories to Favorites and recommend them for viewing by a wide audience.

Check the names in Instagram Stories.

Stories is an important "part" that allows you to find out the names of those who view your account. With story display order, in fact, you can not only see a list of the names of those who played them, but also understand how much a particular user interacts with your account.

Are you wondering how you can see who looks at your Instagram profile in this way? It's very simple: first go to settings of your profile, go to section Privacy and security, click Settings history and in the list Hide history see if there are the names of who you suspect I am spying on you. If there are, remove them from the list to make them "swallow" your bait.

This will give you a sheet with several profile names, some of which are repeated several times. Just add them to see who is the follower or the most frequent user who follows you on Instagram. Once you know, you can block him. In any case, if your account is public, be aware that it can still view your stories without being seen. Keep reading to see how you can do it.

Brands and marketers alike conduct anonymous research before reaching out to an influencer in the company—and this includes anonymous research on the content of stories.
