WhatsApp currently allows its users to delete messages from personal as well as group chats within about an hour. The time limit to delete a message in future could be indefinite. This means that WhatsApp users in future will be able to delete ‘without considering when it has been sent’.
has recently submitted Android beta version 2.21.23.1. As per a report by WaBetaInfo- the online platform that tracks new and upcoming WhatsApp features, the update shows new changes that may be currently coming to the Delete for Everyone feature. So, what is going to change? Let’s find out
WhatsApp currently allows its users to delete messages from personal as well as group chats within about an hour - 1 hour, 8 minutes and 16 seconds to be precise. After the message is deleted, the app displays a notification that reads “This message was deleted.” Readers must note that the feature works only in case the recipient has not read the message before deletion.
The new development indicates that this time limit may be increased to undefined time in a future update.
What is the new undefined time limit?
WaBetaInfo, in its report, has shared a screenshot that allowed it to delete a message as old as three months. The time limit to delete a message in future could be indefinite. This means that WhatsApp users in future will be able to delete ‘without considering when it has been sent’.
“The new version of “delete message for everyone” allows deleting a message sent 3 months ago: this is because WhatsApp is planning to change the time limit in a future update”, the report says.
Is there any timeline for the new feature?
The report says this new version of delete messages for everyone is under development. As mentioned earlier, it is introduced with the new beta version 2.21.23.1 of Android.
WhatsApp’s ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature was first introduced in 2017. At the time of release, the time limit to delete a message was set to 7 minutes. The limit was increased to more than an hour months later.

WhatsApp could remove time limit for ‘Delete for Everyone’ in upcoming build
Home Tech News WhatsApp could remove time limit for ‘Delete for Everyone’ in upcoming build
WhatsApp could update its ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature to work indefinitely, according to a feature leaker. Here’s how the feature might work in an upcoming build.
Four years after it first launched a ‘Delete for Everyone' feature that would allow users to retract messages from both sides of a chat while deleting a message, WhatsApp is reportedly working on removing the time limit, allowing users to delete messages longer than previously allowed on the service.
In a screenshot shared by popular feature leaker WABetaInfo, the familiar WhatsApp for Android interface is visible, along with the dialog that asks a user to choose whether they want to delete the message for only themselves or everyone in a chat. The message, however, is three months old and the chat behind shows a date of August 23. This is far beyond the current time limit imposed by WhatsApp when using the ‘Delete for Everyone' feature.

At the moment, WhatsApp allows users to delete messages for all recipients in a conversation for 4096 seconds (or 68 minutes and 16 seconds) after the message is sent. This timer was increased after the feature was released in 2017 with the ability to delete messages within 8 minutes after they were sent. However, the leak suggests that the timer could be removed altogether in the future update, according to the feature leaker.
If WhatsApp removes the time limit for the ‘Delete for Everyone' feature, it will not be the first service to do so. Telegram and Instagram both allow users to delete older messages from the app, without any time limit. “What we can confirm is that you can delete a message for everyone without time limits at the current state of development,” WABetaInfo notes. However, as WABetaInfo notes, that the feature could receive further changes along the line, and users should wait for confirmation if and when the feature does appear in a future build of WhatsApp.

The popular WhatsApp messenger allows you to delete messages within 68 minutes after sending, and then this option disappears. However, a simple life hack allows you to bypass the ban and delete the old WhatsApp message.

As one of the users of the popular site Quora said, all you need to do is to do five things:
- Turn on airplane mode on your smartphone or tablet.
- Close the WhatsApp application and remove it from the list of recently launched.
- Open the time settings and set a new date and time - such as when the message that needs to be deleted was sent.
- Launch WhatsApp, find the desired application and remove it "for everyone".
After that, you can turn off airplane mode - the application will connect to the server and delete the message on the sender and recipient side. It is possible, however, that the developers of the messenger may soon close this loophole.

You can bypass the 68 minute limit and delete any message much later. We will explain how the new WhatsApp feature works and show a life hack that makes it easy to manage the chats of the application.
68 minutes is not the limit. Delete messages at any time - we'll show you how to bypass WhatsApp rules. Hurry before the developers fix this vulnerability.
How to delete a WhatsApp message after sending
Recent app updates have made it possible to delete messages sent to WhatsApp chat. And it does not depend on whether they were read or not.
- Once you've sent a message, you have 68 minutes to delete it. When this time passes, there will be no going back.
- To delete a message, hold it down until the message management menu appears. Click on the urn icon which indicates the delete option.
- If 68 minutes has not yet passed, select "Delete for everyone". Later, only the "Delete for me" function will be visible, which will only delete the message from your chat, but not from the chat of the interlocutor.
- Instead of a message in the chat, the notification "This message has been deleted" will remain. The recipient will also see this notification, regardless of whether they have read the deleted message or not.
- In group chats, deleting works the same way.
By the way, if your interlocutor is offline, you cannot be sure that he did not read the message. Your friend might have seen it on their smartphone's lock screen.
