With over 2 billion monthly active users, WhatsApp is the most popular chat application in the world. The app offers a simple and intuitive user interface, notable features, and hidden tips and tricks that make it a joy to use. One thing that has been missing from WhatsApp's arsenal of features is an independent Android tablet app. However, with the new multi-device feature, you can now use WhatsApp on your tablet. So, if you want to use WhatsApp on your tablet, here is how to do it.

How to use WhatsApp on your tablet

The multi-device feature in WhatsApp allows you to use WhatsApp on five devices at once, including your primary smartphone. So you can use WhatsApp on your phone and four linked devices, including tablets, desktops, and WhatsApp Web.

The multi-device feature on tablets is in beta and only works on Android tablets. If you are not a beta tester on WhatsApp or use an iPad, you will have to use WhatsApp web to access your chats. We explain both of these methods below.

Use WhatsApp on your tablet using multi-device

The benefit of using the multi-device login is that your tablet WhatsApp app works independently of your phone app. That means you can receive and send messages from your tablet, even if your phone has no internet connection.

For this part of the guide, you must be a part of the beta program on WhatsApp. Also, before you proceed, update the WhatsApp app on your tablet and phone to the latest beta version, as the feature works on WhatsApp beta version 2.22.21.6 or later.

  1. Launch the WhatsApp app on your tablet and tap the Agree and Continue button. A QR code appears.
  2. Open the WhatsApp app on your phone.
  3. Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner
  4. Select the Linked devices option.

  5. Tap the Link a device button.
  6. The phone asks you to authenticate with your PIN or fingerprint. After you authenticate, WhatsApp opens a code scanner. Use it to scan the QR code on your tablet.

  7. After you scan, WhatsApp will take a few minutes to download your chats and history on the tablet.

Use WhatsApp on your tablet using WhatsApp Web

If you are not a part of the WhatsApp beta program or use iPad, you can access your chats on WhatsApp using the WhatsApp Web app. It works the same way as WhatsApp Web on a desktop.

  1. Open a browser on your tablet and go to Web.WhatsApp.Com.
  2. Open the WhatsApp app on your Android smartphone, and tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
  3. Choose the Linked devices option.

  4. Tap the Link a device button.
  5. Scan the QR code on WhatsApp web to get your messages.

Use WhatsApp on your tablet

Since the new WhatsApp multi-device feature for tablets has been released to beta testers, we are hopeful that the company will finally allow users to use the same WhatsApp account on two phones. Many of us carry two smartphones simultaneously, and it will be great to be able to access our chats on both smartphones.

Easily access your WhatsApp messages on any device

A staggering 7 billion messages are sent on WhatsApp every day, making it one of the most popular messaging apps in the world, but typing every message on your phone isn’t as convenient as on your laptop or PC keyboard.

The good news is that while WhatsApp is designed for phones first and foremost, there are ways to use WhatsApp on almost any device – including tablets, Windows PCs, and Macs.

This is ideal to ensure you are always contactable, especially while you’re at work, but it’s also useful when your battery is dead or you don’t have your phone to hand.

It works thanks to the new multi-device feature that allows you to use WhatsApp app on up to four ‘companion devices’. Unfortunately those can’t be other phones, though we have a workaround if you really want to use WhatsApp on two phones. Instead, they must be computers (using WhatsApp Web or the desktop app) or a Facebook Portal.

Use WhatsApp on a Windows PC or laptop

Right now, Windows devices have the easiest time accessing WhatsApp when you’re not on your phone. That’s because WhatsApp has introduced a dedicated Windows app that lets you receive, send, and sync messages just like on your phone.

There’s been a Windows app for a few years, but up until now this app was simply an installable version of WhatsApp Web, which has limitations. The new Windows app is standalone, which means it works even if your phone isn’t currently online.

Meta

You can download the app from the Microsoft Store on any desktop PC or laptop running Windows 10 or 11. If your version of Windows is older, and you can’t or don’t want to upgrade, then you’ll be limited to WhatsApp Web – check out our instructions for accessing that below.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed the WhatsApp app, it’s simple to log in:

  1. Open WhatsApp on your phone
  2. Tap the three dots icon on Android or ‘Settings’ on iPhone
  3. Tap ‘Linked Devices’
  4. Tap ‘Link a Device’
  5. Open the WhatsApp Desktop app
  6. Point your phone camera at the QR code that appears on your WhatsApp Desktop app

Use WhatsApp on a Mac or MacBook with WhatsApp Web

If you’re an Apple user, things are a little different. While WhatsApp has promised that it’s working on a dedicated desktop client for macOS, it’s not available yet. And in the meantime, the company has actually removed the download option for its previous Mac app – though this was really only ever a version of WhatsApp Web anyway.

That means that right now, Mac users who didn’t install the old app only have the option of using WhatsApp Web via Safari or their other web browser of choice. This gives you a pretty similar interface to the desktop app anyway, but you’ll need to leave it open in a browser tab, and it doesn’t always work reliably if your phone isn’t online.

Here’s how to set it up, which is very similar to the process with the app:

  1. Open WhatsApp on your phone
  2. Tap the three dots icon on Android or ‘Settings’ on iPhone
  3. Tap ‘Linked Devices’
  4. Tap ‘Link a Device’
  5. On the device on which you want to access WhatsApp, head to web.whatsapp.com in your web browser of choice
  6. Point your phone camera at the QR code that appears on the WhatsApp Web screen

WhatsApp Web will automatically launch in the browser, and will remain active until you log out either on your computer or on your phone.

You can achieve this on your phone by returning to the ‘Linked devices’ screen in ‘Settings’ and tapping on the device, then ‘Log out’. Alternatively, you can do this in the browser window by clicking the three dots icon at the top of the conversation list, then clicking ‘Log out’.

Although from a security standpoint the web app isn’t the best choice, there’s now a browser add-on you can use that’ll confirm it’s safe to use or not.

Use WhatsApp on an iPad or Android tablet with WhatsApp Web

For reasons best known to itself, WhatsApp has never released an official WhatsApp app for either iPads or Android tablets.

Although it is possible to install WhatsApp on a tablet it’s not something we’d recommend.

WhatsApp Web is a far more attractive solution for most people, ensuring you can not only read and respond to messages on any device but send and receive photos and videos too.

The good news is that setting it up on a tablet is just as simple as doing it on a PC or Mac, and involves the same basic steps:

  1. Open WhatsApp on your phone
  2. Tap the three dots icon on Android or ‘Settings’ on iPhone
  3. Tap ‘Linked Devices’
  4. Tap ‘Link a Device’
  5. On the tablet on which you want to access WhatsApp, head to web. whatsapp.com in your web browser of choice
  6. Point your phone camera at the QR code that appears on the WhatsApp Web screen

How to use WhatsApp on a tablet

The modern user has long had several gadgets for communication. And almost everywhere there are the same instant messengers in order to constantly stay in touch. But it is generally accepted that WhatsApp can only be used on a desktop PC or on a smartphone. While the tablets "remain in flight." But that's not the case at all. After all, you can easily use the popular messenger on Android tablets. And it's not difficult at all. nine0003

Unfortunately WhatsApp is still not compatible with tablets by default, but there are several ways to get around this limitation. Some of the possible solutions will require you to install third-party APKs, but there is an easier way.

How to use WhatsApp on your tablet

WhatsApp Web is the perfect way to use the messenger. The web client synchronizes conversations and messages with your mobile phone. To do this, your smartphone must be constantly connected to the Internet, but this should not be a big problem. nine0003

  • On your tablet, go to the WhatsApp web client page to get started.
  • After that, enter the application settings on your smartphone and find the synchronization point using the QR code.
  • At the same time, this very code must be in the browser on the tablet. Point your smartphone camera at the tablet screen and the program will automatically synchronize your contacts and chats.
  • You can now use WhatsApp on your tablet using WhatsApp Web. The only limitation is that the web client is essentially a mirror of what is on your phone and cannot be used offline. nine0014

Using WhatsApp as a standalone application on a tablet

If for some reason the WhatsApp web client doesn't work for you, there is another, but more complicated way.

  • First, download the WhatsApp APK from a third party site.
  • Please note that if you have downloaded the application in this way, you will not receive automatic updates as you receive them through the Play Store on your smartphone. So you will need to check the repository from time to time and reinstall the program manually. nine0014
  • After downloading the WhatsApp APK, you will need to make sure that your system allows you to install applications from unknown sources.
  • To do this, you must allow installation from unknown sources, but after installing WhatsApp, be sure to go back and re-enable the setting in the security settings so that your phone is not vulnerable to malware attacks.
  • After installing WhatsApp on your tablet, open the app.
  • After you agree to the terms of use for WhatsApp, you will be greeted with an error message stating that your device is not supported. Just click on OK and go to the next item. nine0014
  • Now you will be asked to enter your mobile phone number (yes, you can't do without a phone, since a verification code will come to it).
  • After receiving the code and activating the device, WhatsApp will synchronize your contacts. They will include only those subscribers who also have an installed messenger.
  • Once the synchronization is completed, you can fully use WhatsApp on your Android tablet.
