Fortunately, the process is really straightforward. So, here’s what you need to do to hide your Instagram story from someone:
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Tap the menu at the top right and select “Settings”.
- Tap on “Privacy” and then “Stories”.
- Find “Hide Story from”.
- If you haven’t done this before you will see a ‘0 people’ written, click on that.
- A list will show up where you can search for the specific people you want to hide the story from.
- Select their username, and they will no longer be able to view your stories until you reverse the process.
Remember that this setting refers only to your stories and won’t prevent someone from looking at your profile and seeing your posts.
How to Hide Highlights on Instagram From SomeoneHiding highlights entails using pretty much the same process. Through the settings menu, you can use the ‘Hide Story from’ option.
Alternatively, you can make a private story on Instagram and make sure only certain people see your stories and highlights.
Blocking someone from seeing your story can be done by hiding your story in one of two ways already described, or by entirely blocking their account altogether. They will not be able to view your story, nor will they be able to access your profile, send you direct messages, or even find you listed on Instagram.

If you’ve ever wondered how to mute stories on Instagram (or how to hide Instagram Stories from other people), we’ve got you covered!
Instagram’s mute feature lets you silence stories from accounts you follow without having to actually unfollow those accounts — which is perfect if you’ve ever had a friend who posts *way* too many Instagram Stories!
But did you know that you can hide your stories from other users as well?
In this post, we cover everything you need to know about how to mute stories on Instagram + how to hide Instagram Stories from other people:
How to Hide Instagram Stories From Other People
You have a few different options when it comes to hiding your Instagram Stories from other people.
If you want to prevent someone from seeing anything you post to your story in the future, simply head to your profile and open your account settings.
Next, tap Privacy.
And then Story.
Tap the number of people next to Hide Story From.
Select the people you’d like to hide your story from, then tap Done.
You can also choose to hide your story from specific users from as you’re looking at who’s seen your story.
Just tap the ellipsis button to the right of their name and select Hide Story From [Username].
If your story is appearing on a location or hashtag page, you’ll see it at the top of the list of people who have seen your story. You can tap “x” to the right of a location or hashtag page to hide your story from it.
Note: When you hide Instagram Stories from certain people, they won’t be able to see anything you post to your story in the future.
Hiding Instagram Stories from someone is also different from blocking them and doesn’t prevent them from seeing your profile and posts.
To mute an account’s Instagram Stories, all you have to do is tap the ellipsis button (“…”) in the top-right corner of any post and tap Mute.
From there, you can choose whether to mute posts or mute posts and stories from an account.
You can also mute posts and stories by pressing and holding on a story in your tray or from a profile.
This moves the account’s story to the end of your queue and prevents it from auto-playing.
Note: The accounts you mute will not be aware that you’ve muted them — and you can always unmute an account to get their stories back in your tray! Just re-follow the steps above and select Unmute.
Why You May Want to Mute or Hide Instagram StoriesWe all have one… an irritating Instagram account that clogs your stories with photos and videos you have no intention of engaging with.
It could be an old friend or recent ex, but whatever the social dynamic, the ability to hide an accounts’ Instagram Stories from appearing in your tray without actually unfollowing them gives you way more control over the content you see!
It’s also a lot less drastic than unfollowing someone.
With the ability to mute stories on Instagram, you can avoid seeing the content you dislike (or prefer not to see) without affecting your real-life relationships with those users.
There’s also a possibility that Instagram algorithm takes this information into consideration when deciding what kind of content to serve up in your feed and Explore page.
Finally, it can also be helpful for mental health. Muting other people’s Instagram Stories gives you a greater ability to personalize your feed — so you can focus on engaging with content that has a positive impact on your mental health.

Tap the or icon on your profile picture in the bottom right corner of the screen to go to your profile.

Select the people you want to hide the story from, and then tap in the upper left corner of the screen. To show your story again to a specific person, click next to their username.

How to hide stories from one or all on Instagram
Stories is one of the convenient formats where you can publish current events, show subscribers life stories. At the same time, the section can be edited, closed from strangers.

We hide our stories from a specific person
The page owner can hide Instagram Stories from some users: there will be no update notifications or access is completely denied.
The ban can be set in this way:
- block other users;
- go to Stories settings: Privacy and security.
In the second case, you can add a group of users or just one visitor.
Instructions on how to hide Stories from the viewer:
- Log in to the Instagram application.
- Go to: Settings - Privacy .
- History parameters – Hide from – specify nickname .
Users who previously viewed Stories will appear in the search bar. Even those that appeared once. Enter a nickname, check the box - a blue icon will appear next to the line.
Or - temporarily block publications for display. You need to go to the user page and click on the top three dots. A list will appear with the item " Hide My Stories ". Works if this person is subscribed.
Hide stories completely from everyone
An easy way to hide Stories from everyone is to close the profile, then users who are not subscribed to the profile will not see them. To do this, the page must be changed to the "Closed" status. This option is not suitable for business profiles, so initially, you need to return the settings of the "Personal Page".
To set the status " Private profile " in the new version of Instagram:

How to disable the display of other people's Stories on your own
The profile owner can hide other people's Stories on Instagram, but only in a selective way. This is a temporary block that can be removed if desired.
How to hide someone's Instagram Stories:
- Open the application - go to the feed.
- Select the top icon of the user to be blocked.
- Keep your finger on the icon until the list appears: View profile and Block temporarily.
- Select: Hide Stories .
Blocking works one-way: this user will be able to view Stories on the page where he is blocked. To cancel, you need to find the icon again and after clicking it will appear: Unblock. nine0003
After blocking, you can find it at the end of the list of all Stories. The icon will be gray, the latest Stories can be watched after unlocking.
Instagram has not yet offered additional settings for Stories. Hide Stories on Instagram from a person or group is possible only through the "Closed Profile" or by blocking each one separately.
Restricted access - how to set up on Instagram
In addition to blocking, Instagram has added an access restriction function.
This means that the page owner does not delete visitors, but prohibits some actions. nine0003
Users who are in "restricted access" will not be able to:
- receive notifications of new publications;
- view Stories;
- leave comments and will not see the latest posts in the Feed.
This is necessary if the owner does not want the subscriber to interact with the page in any way, but remain in the fan list. It is possible to restrict access from the mobile and computer versions.
List via PC version:
- Go to Instagram - go to the profile of the selected user.
- Click on the top three dots - Restrict access.
The subscriber will not know that he has been added to this list. The only way to find out is to go to the profile of the user who allegedly blocked.
From mobile:
- Open the application - go to the profile of the person you need.
- Select from above: "Subscription" - mark the function: "Restrict access".
