WhatsApp status is a bit of a camouflaged feature that can easily slip under your radar. To get to it in the Android app, you’ll need to open WhatsApp and press on the “Status” tab at the top of the screen.
In the iOS app, tap the “Status” option in the bottom-left corner of the display. On desktop, you’ll need to click on the circular icon on the left side of the screen.
Here you’ll be able to see a list of people who have posted statuses. If you want to check them out, you’ll need to press on a contact’s bubble. Once you do that, they will be able to see that you viewed their status on their end. Statuses are akin to Instagram’s popular Stories. They are basically pictures and short videos that give others a glimpse of the creator’s day-to-day activities. If you’d like to view someone’s status without them knowing, try one of the methods listed below.
Let us begin by looking at how you can view a WhatsApp status secretly with the built-in option. These steps work whether you’re accessing the service on your mobile device or PC.
- Open WhatsApp on your mobile device, then tap on the three-dot icon at the top-right corner of the screen.
- Select the “Settings” option from the drop-down menu.
- Head to “Account.”
- From there, select “Privacy.”
- Tap on the “Read receipts” option and disable it to view the WhatsApp status of your contacts secretly. Your name will never appear on the view list of your contact.
There is one important drawback of using this method. Once you have disabled this setting, you can’t see who has seen your status. This setting will also hide the read receipt (blue tick) in normal messages. If you don’t want that to happen, you may want to proceed to the next technique.
2. Use a File Manager
This method requires you to have a file manager application installed on your Android smartphone, especially one that has the option to view hidden files. Either download one of the many file manager apps in the Play Store, or follow our recommendations here. Depending on you phone’s default file manager, you may not even need to get a third-party one on board.
In this example, we are using the native File Manager app on a OnePlus device, but you can use any other one. This method is meant to be used on your smartphone.
- Open the File Manager app.
- Tap on the “Storage” button at the bottom.
- Press on “Internal storage” at the top.
- Select “Android” from the options that appear.
- Hit the “Media” option.
- Select the “com.whatsapp” folder.
- Press on “WhatsApp.”
- Once again select “Media.”
- Tap on the three dots in the upper-right corner of the display.
- Choose “Settings.”
- Toggle on the “Show hidden files” option.
- Don’t open the new “.Statuses” folder at the bottom of the Media Folder just yet.
- Go back to WhatsApp without closing the File Manager app and tap on “Status.” Don’t press on the status that you want to see secretly.
- Instead, go back to File Manager and open the “.Statuses” folder to find the status in question appears here. You can tap on it to view it in full mode.
3. Install a Third-Party App
Another alternative is to install a third-party app that promises to help you keep track and download new statuses without being seen. A good example is Status Saver – Video Download. It’s only available for Android, but there are some options for iOS users too.
- Download and install the Status Saver app on the same device with WhatsApp installed.
- Open it and let it load.
- When it does, the app will immediately show you a gallery of the latest statues that were uploaded by your contacts on the app.
- Tap on one of the statuses to view it in full. It’s as simple as that.
- From the same screen, you can share, save or repost this status.
While the app works really well, there’s one downside: it’s riddled with ads. However, this shouldn’t be a huge problem if you’re only using it to check out a WhatsApp status secretly once in a while. Alternatively, you can opt to upgrade to the Pro version, which will remove ads completely and add a few bonus features.
A few other worthy apps that allow you to view WhatsApp statuses incognito are:
- Status Save to Gallery (Android)
- Status Saver – WA Status Saver (Android)
- Status Saver for WhatsApp Save (iOS)
4.
View Before ExpiryA WhatsApp status remains live for 24 hours. If you wish to view a WhatsApp status secretly, then you can keep track of the time when the target person’s status was uploaded, and just before the expiry, view it. Many people don’t bother to check how many people have viewed their status that late. It is not a foolproof method, but it is worth a try.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you hide your WhatsApp status from some contacts?
Yes, it’s possible to do that. Once in the Status tab, press on the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner and select “Status Privacy.” From there, select either “My contacts except” to prevent certain people from seeing you’ve posted a status or “Only share with” so that only a select handful can view your status.
When that happens, a person who has not been cleared for viewing the status won’t be able to see that you’ve posted a new WhatsApp status. None of the methods described in this article will pick up the hidden status if its owner decides to hide it from you.
Note: you need to change the privacy settings first, then upload the status. If you do it the other way around, it won’t work.
Can I mute someone's WhatsApp statuses so as not to see them anymore?
Out of sight, out of mind, right? The good news is that you can mute someone’s statuses. Go to the “Status” tab in WhatsApp, and open the status in question, then tap on the three dots in the upper-right corner and select “Mute.” If you do that, you won’t be able to see any updates regarding their statuses in your feed.
Can I take a screenshot of a WhatsApp status without being caught?
Yes. Unlike Snapchat, WhatsApp does not alert the other party when you screenshot their status. You can do so without a problem using the built-in method – just don’t forget to turn off “Read receipts” if you are doing so from the app to ensure they won’t see that you viewed their status. If you’re using the other methods, you can easily screenshot or save the statuses to your phone’s Gallery app.

How to view whatsapp status without them knowing
Whatsapp status feature is widely used by many to share photos and videos with friends and family. The status feature also gives you adequate control with the ability to share it with all your contacts or favorites. Whatsapp shows a list of everyone who has seen your status. But what do you do when you want to secretly see the status of others? Well, there aren't many options, so read on if you're curious about how to view WhatsApp status without them knowing.
See whatsapp status anonymously
Methods that no longer work
Before moving on, let's deal with the elephant in the room. I'm sure you must have read about a few tricks by now, so before you waste time trying them, here are a few methods you should avoid.
In addition, WhatsApp addresses these shortcomings by constantly releasing updates, which is great (although not in our case). So, if you have read these methods somewhere, try to avoid them until you have enough time.
- WhatsApp Web - You open the status tab in WhatsApp Web and turn on airplane mode. With updates, now the status is not loaded until you click and view the status, which defeats the purpose as you will no longer remain anonymous.
- Third-party apps (avoid if you don't want a ban) - will likely run for a while until they are disabled due to a violation of the WhatsApp Terms of Service. In addition, these applications can violate your data and privacy, so they should be avoided.
1. Own method - read receipts
Windows programs, mobile applications, games - EVERYTHING is FREE, in our closed telegram channel - Subscribe :)
This is the official and easiest method that allows you to secretly view the status of any contact on whatsapp. The best part is that it's a native way and you don't have to depend on crappy tricks or malware-filled third-party apps. For this method, we are going to change the read receipts setting. Let's see how it works.
Open WhatsApp and tap the menu icon in the top right corner of the screen. Then select "Settings" at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Now click on Account which is the first option under the displayed picture and open Privacy. In this section, you will find all the settings related to privacy, however, we are only looking at setting read receipts. You will most likely find this setting enabled if you haven't set it up before. Now disable the setting by clicking on the Read notification option.
That's it, you've successfully turned off read receipts, which means that whenever you view someone's status, your name will never appear in the list.
Disadvantage
If you disable this option, not only others, but you will not be able to see people who have seen your status. Another issue is that the setting is generic and will also hide read receipts (blue checkmarks) in regular text messages etc.0003
2. File manager
This trick will require you to use a file manager with the "Show hidden file" feature. Most built-in file managers don't have it, so I suggest using a third party app. I'm using Files by Google which has this feature in the settings menu.
To turn it on, click on the hamburger icon in the top left corner of the screen and open Settings. Now enable the "Show hidden files" option.
Before viewing the files, be sure to open the WhatsApp status tab so that it preloads the story. After that, open the file manager app, scroll down to Internal storage and select the WhatsApp folder.
At the bottom, open "Media" and click "Statuses" (hidden folder). Here you will be able to view all preloaded stories.
3. Flight Mode
This is the oldest trick that doesn't require as many steps as the first two methods. To make it work, all you have to do is open WhatsApp and go to the status tab. Once there, swipe down from the top edge of the screen and tap on the airplane mode icon. This disables the internet so the application cannot connect to the server. Now click and open the story you want to view. When you're done, close WhatsApp and clear out the recent app tabs. Voila, that's it. The other user will not see your name in the list of seen users.
4. View just before expiration
Each time you upload a status, it stays active for 24 hours. If you want to view the status secretly, try setting the time when the history will expire. Chances are your friends won't check it out this late, and by the time they do, the window will be closed. It's a hit and miss, but worth a try.
The easiest way to view whatsapp status
Before writing this, I tried many methods, and only they worked. I often turn off the read receipt setting when I want to remain anonymous, which is the easiest method of all.

WhatsApp , owned by Meta, has long had history feature . similar function Instagram and Facebook . Also called stories or statuses, stories are posts that are a few seconds long and available for 24 hours, because of this quality, some contacts may be interested see them several times before they disappear.
While the messaging platform allows you to see who has seen stories, some users wonder how many times they have seen their stories.
To find out, you need to follow two simple steps that will take a few seconds.
However, it should be emphasized that this option has some limitations . First, you can only find out how many times they saw the story if you have WhatsApp Plus , and secondly, the other contact must also have WhatsApp Plus.
If this factor is met, it is enough just to view the history, that is, go to States, then My Status and finally select the icon with one eye that appears at the back of the menu to know exactly how many times contacts viewed history.
Fotografía de un teléfono móvil con el logo de la aplicación tecnológica WhatsApp (Photo: EFE/Marcelo Sayão/Archivo) EFEIt should be remembered that this mode only appears for users with WhatsApp Plus , and those who have the standard version can only know which contacts spent time playing history.
Status updates can only be seen by people whose phone numbers are saved in the contact book and the phone number in contacts. You can share status updates with all contacts or only selected contacts , for this you need to make some settings in the settings.
Change the privacy of your statuses
- Touch States.
On Android: tap More options > Status privacy.
On iPhone: Tap Privacy.
- Choose one of the following options:

My contacts except... : All your contacts will be able to see your status updates except the selected ones.
Share only with... : You can only see status updates for selected contacts.
It's worth remembering that the settings will not apply to stories that have already been published and will only be so after the privacy changes are applied.
One of the main ideas of Meta is that there is unification between Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp so that users feel comfortable between applications, leaving aside cumbersome situations such as searching for contacts or posting the same post on each platform manually . Thanks to this ambition, the company 9Mark Zuckerberg's 0075 added features such as sharing stories on Instagram and Facebook at the touch of a button.
