How to check questions on instagram

Instagram Story Questions: Everything You Need to Know in 2020

Instagram Stories shake up the traditional engagement features on social media. Instead of the usual “likes,” comments and saves, the platform has developed an array of creative new ways for users to interact with their followers via Stories – including adding music, links and GIFs.

Asking questions on Instagram, and encouraging followers to ask you questions, is a tried-and-true method of increasing engagement. That’s what makes the Instagram Story question sticker such a powerful feature in 2020.

Instagram Story questions: How do they work?

Introduced in July 2018, the IG Story question sticker allows you to ask your followers a question, or invite them to ask you questions, and then easily respond in a new Story.

Followers’ responses are not shared publicly: only you can see them. And if you share one of their responses to answer in a Story, their photo and username won’t appear.

One of the great things about this feature is that it invites followers to interact with you privately in a way that feels much less invasive than DMs. It creates a smooth, comfortable transition to DMs if you choose to reply to them privately.

You can also ask questions using other stickers, such as the polls sticker or the emoji slider. The advantage of the question sticker is that users can respond with free text.

How do you answer questions on Instagram Stories?

Can you answer a question after 24 hours?

Followers will be able to see your post and ask respond to it for a period of 24 hours. Afterwards, you’ll still be able to see and respond to questions, as long as the Instagram Story is archived.

Does Instagram tell you when someone answers your question?

You’ll receive a notification when someone responds to your question sticker. You’ll also be able to see the responses by opening your story and swiping up, as mentioned above.

If you share someone’s response to your question sticker as a new Story, they will receive a notification, even if you don’t tag them. This ensures that they’ll know when you answer their question.

And of course, they’ll be notified if you respond to their question via DM.

3 ways to get creative with the Instagram Stories question sticker

1. Hold a Q&A Session

Use the question sticker to prompt your audience to ask you questions. The Q&A session can be themed (‘Ask me anything about running my own business!), like @insideouterbeautymarket held recently:

Note that this Q&A session is connected to their brand’s mission (health & wellness), which is always a good practice to keep in mind. You can also hold an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session in which your followers can ask you whatever is on their mind, without any particular topic or theme.

You can respond by typing out your responses and sharing them to your Story, like @the_ivorymix did here:

Alternatively, you can respond to the questions via video. This will likely help you gain even more engagement on your Story. For tips on how to effectively create video for Stories, check out this blog.

2. Get to know your audience

Through a Q&A session, your audience will get to know you better. Now, use the question sticker to get to know them! Here are some connection-building questions you can ask your audience:

Pro tip: even if you don’t share every question sticker response to your Stories, do your best to engage with everybody who responds to your question sticker by sending them a message or reaction via DM.

3. Show off your brand’s fun side

Have some fun with the question sticker! A great way to do this is with a caption contest, like @alexbeadon did here:

Share the best responses to your Stories. For bonus points, you can even offer an incentive or prize for the best caption. For more info on interactive Instagram Story games, check out this blog.

Whether you’re a document-everything type of story poster, or a once-in-a-while sunset story type, one of the best things about posting Instagram stories is the engagement that comes with it. Perhaps you’re no stranger to soliciting advice on your Close Friends story via a poll sticker. Or, you’ve been adding some fun to your followers’ daily scroll by posting quizzes to your story. While many of these story stickers are pretty straightforward, if you’ve recently ventured into the questions sticker feature, you might be wondering how to see responses on Instagram questions.

Instagram launched the feature in July 2018, making stories more interactive and social than they were before. Included in the sticker options on your story tab, the questions sticker allows you to pose any question you’d like to your followers. Think, “What should I eat for dinner tonight?” “Are you team Fexi?” “What’s your sun sign?” etc. You can also prompt your followers to ask you questions that you can answer yourself, AMA style. Once a follower views your question, they can tap on the sticker and send their reply. You can then respond directly to your follower via DMs, or you can repost the answer to your story to amp up the discourse.

If you're already using the feature, you'll want to know how to see who answered your question sticker on Instagram Stories — because this feature is not anonymous, despite how it might look to viewers. The question sticker acts as a prompt to get us talking with our followers. It serves as a simple tool to get to conversation started and gives us an opportunity to open up with a little guided encouragement and explore the way in which we want to use our Instagram accounts. For example, if you prompt your followers to send in questions, you'll be able to look for patterns within their questions. Maybe a lot of your followers love your food content and want restaurant and recipe recommendations. Maybe they’re obsessed with your home decor and are looking for some tips and tricks. By studying the questions that you receive, you can learn a lot about what your followers find most interesting about your content. Then, you can use that information to inspire your future posts and help you better connect with your followers.

If you've seen your friends using the question sticker in their Stories, you've probably noticed that you can't see who submitted the question. But just because the poster's name is not shared with viewers, doesn't mean it's not disclosed. If you’ve decided to stir the pot asking for hot takes on the latest Euphoria episode, or asked for book recommendations from your studious pals, you might be sitting on a gold mine of hilarious story responses right now. Don’t let that untapped content potential go to waste: Here’s how to view responses to your Instagram question.

If you just posted a question sticker to your story and are waiting with bated breath for your followers to weigh in, you’ll first want to return to your story. Swipe up on the story itself, and, above your viewers, you’ll be able to scroll through the various responses you’ve received. If your story drew in lots of opinions, you can also tap “See all” above the responses to view all of the responses in a list.

You'll also see these responses in your general notifications page where likes, comments and follows are also reported. If you want to see responses to your question sticker after 24 hours, you’ll be able to check them in your notifications.

When you click on your responses, you'll be able to see who asked questions and you'll have an opportunity to respond to them, either directly via DM or in a follow up story. Just tap the response and choose from the prompted options to do so. If you’re feeling extra social, you can even share someone’s response and add a follow-up question using the question sticker again.

Why Can’t I See Responses To My Instagram Questions?

Instagram

If you just posed a question to your followers, you might be eagerly swiping up and not seeing any responses. If you’re in this position, the best move is to just let your question simmer. Even if some of your most-likely-to-respond followers have viewed your story, they might be pondering what to answer. Even if it’s been a few hours since your posted the question, it’s possible that you just stumped your followers and won’t receive any replies.

If you have a professional account, though, you might not be seeing your responses right away because your Insights tab is open. When someone with a professional account swipes up on their story, the first tab to open will be the story Insights. Make sure to click on the Viewers icon to the right that looks like an eye. Here, you’ll find responses to your question.

What is it? At the moment, Instagram Stories allows you to ask several types of questions. The first type - you write a question and two possible answers to it. Your subscribers will see the Story with the question and will be able to choose one of the suggested answers if they wish. This is the so-called survey question.

The second type of questions in Stories are open-ended questions. The essence of this function is that you can post an offer to ask you any question that you receive in Direct. You yourself will know who sent it to you, but if you share it in Stories, the rest will not know the name of the sender.

Or you can use this function a little in reverse. You can ask a question in Stories and get answers from your subscribers in a personal message. This is very handy if you want to know someone's opinion on any subject, and not hear a monosyllabic answer. How this is done is described in as much detail as possible below.
