My tagged pictures on Instagram are pretty mundane to scroll through, but occasionally, I'll have someone that I've never met tag me in a post. Whether it's an accident or simply someone trying to make a new friend, I'll never know — but I'd prefer for my tagged photos to not be filled with pictures of strangers. So, how do you hide tagged Instagram photos so they don't show up on your profile? Thankfully, you can do it without anyone really noticing.
The app makes it easy to hide tagged Instagram pictures while still remaining tagged. Even when I do know the person sharing, I still want to hide some of the posts I'm tagged in — my friends and family members seem to love sharing pictures where I'm clearly not ready for my close-up.
Why You May Want To Hide Your Tagged Photos
There are plenty of reasons why you may want to hide your tagged photos. Think: that picture from college circa 2015 just resurfaced as your friend's #tbt post. Or, that fake Instagram account just tagged you in that “You Won $1000” post, and unfortunately for you, (and your wallet) you most certainly did not.
Jokes aside, when you’re job searching, or your grandmother is a new follower, it can be a really useful trick to know how to hide your tagged photos. If you have a couple of minutes to spare, you'll be done hiding your posts in no time, and your tagged photos will look as clean and curated as your actual Instagram feed.
If You Hide Your Tagged Pictures On The Regular
If you find yourself regularly hiding pictures from your profile, Instagram has an incredibly easy way to solve that problem.
It may be simpler to turn on tagged photos approval — you'll find the option under the Privacy section in-app settings.
- Tap on your profile photo in the bottom right-hand corner of your Instagram.
- In the upper right-hand corner, there will be three small horizontal lines, click them.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Posts.
- Under “Tagged Posts,” there will be an option to “Manually Approve Tags,” tap that.
- It will bring you to a screen where you can switch “Manually Approve Tags” on.
But, if you just want to remove a photo or two from your profile, hiding one by one is probably your best bet.
How To Hide Your Tagged Photos On Instagram

Navigate to your Instagram profile, then tap the third icon in the middle of the screen — it's the one with the outline of a person. From there, you'll see all of the pictures you've been tagged in on Instagram.

The first way to hide a tagged photo is to pull up the photo, tap it, and then click on your username that shows up.
From there, you can select "Hide from My Profile," and the picture will no longer be visible publicly under your tagged pictures. Though you'll still be tagged and the photo won't be deleted, people won't be able to find it on your profile.

Another way to hide a tagged Instagram photo is through the Post Options menu. This is especially handy if the tags in a picture are stacked on top of each other, or if you don't want to scroll through a photoset to find out which image you're tagged in. Tap the three dots in the upper right corner above the image, then select Post Options.

After you select Post Options, you'll see the same menu that appears when you tap your username in a tagged photo. Select "Hide from My Profile," and the picture will disappear from your profile (not from Instagram altogether) without you having to worry about offending the person who tagged you in the first place.
How To Hide Multiple Tagged Photos At Once

If you need to hide multiple pictures at once, you can speed up the process through the Settings page. On your profile, look for the three lines in the top right corner of the screen. Tap Settings, then Privacy, then Tags.

You can now remove multiple images from your profile at once. Tap all of the ones you want to hide, then select Hide in the top right corner of the screen.
If You Want To Unhide A Tagged Photo
Don't sweat if you accidentally hide a picture from tagged photos, or decide later on that you want it to appear back on your profile — you can reverse it. Navigate to the profile that posted the photo of you originally, and repeat the steps listed above — but instead of seeing "Hide from My Profile," you'll see an option that says, "Show on My Profile." Select it, and it's like the tagged photo never left.

- First, open the Instagram app for Android and iPhone
- Next, tap the tagged photo or video you want to hide
- Now, tap your username

Hide individual photos on Instagram
Are you curious to know how to hide photos on Instagram by occasionally interfering with the individual pictures you post on your profile? Then follow the instructions below. This can be done from a mobile phone, i.e. from the official Instagram app available for Android and iOS (as well as Windows Mobile), or from your computer using the official app for Windows 10.
With Android and iOS
To hide a certain photo you posted on Instagram while acting like a smartphone, the first step you need to take is to take your device and launch a famous app by tapping its icon (retro style camera on a rainbow background), which you will find on the screen where all applications are.
Then click on the icon small person which is located in the lower right corner to access the section dedicated to your profile.
Now find the photo you took and are going to work on and press the button. [...] which is in the top right corner, and select archive from the menu that opens. It! The photo is hidden and no longer appears on Instagram.
The only person who can still see the archive photo is you. How so? Simple: by clicking the button with Mira is located in the upper right corner of your profile screen. From there make sure mail off-menu archive high (and if not, you take care of it).
When in doubt and want to restore normal viewing of the archived photo, simply click the [...] button in the top right corner of the next screen and select Show on profile from the menu that opens.
By returning the photo to the profile, it will return to the place where it was before, in the chronological order of publication.
From Windows 10
As I said, you can also hide individual photos on Instagram using the official utility application available for Windows 10. To do this, the first thing to do is launch the application by calling it from Start menu (retro style camera icon with white outlines on a blue background). In the application window that appears on your desktop, click on the icon little man which is located in the lower right corner to access the section dedicated to your profile.
Now find the photo you took that you want to hide and click on it. On the next screen, click the [...] icon in the top right corner and select archive from the menu that opens. Ready! Thus, the photo has been archived and is now visible only to you, to access the file by pressing Mira in the top right corner of the app screen for your profile.
If you want to redo your steps, you can restore your profile photo and then view it normally by activating your file.
